Newly designed poly(amido amine) dendrimers, which have an azacrown core, hexyl spacers, and methyl ester terminals (aza-C6-PAMAM dendrimer), were spread at the air-water and air-silver nanoparticle suspension interfaces, and their film structures were examined by surface pressure-area (pi-A) and surface potential-area (DeltaV-A) isotherms and epifluorescence microscopy. It was revealed that generation (G) 1.5 aza-C6-PAMAM dendrimer on a water subphase formed homogeneous film with face-on configuration, and this configuration was maintained during compression. On the other hand, a G2.5 dendrimer film on the air-water interface took initially homogeneous and face-on configuration that was followed by the conformational change during compression. Using a silver nanoparticle suspension as subphase, G1.5 film was significantly reinforced, and the partial collapse (cracks) in the film appeared as network texture. For a G2.5 dendrimer film, the pi-A and DeltaV-A isotherm properties were similar to that on the water subphase except for the collapsed film; small spots instead of cracks were formed under the film after collapse. These effects of the silver nanoparticle may be due to the formation of a dendrimer/silver nanoparticle composite. The formation process of the nanocomposite film was verified by UV-vis spectroscopy. For the G1.5 dendrimer, silver clusters and nanoparticles adsorbed to the dendrimer film after spreading and formed a small amount of aggregates. During compression, the aggregation proceeded even at low surface pressure. For the G2.5 dendrimer, a dendrimer/nanoparticle composite was also formed after spreading. However, with the initial compression, the absorption bands of clusters, nanoparticles, and aggregate increased together. Upon further compression, while the bands of cluster and nanoparticles decreased, the bands of aggregate still increased. These results suggest that the G2.5 dendrimer covered the cluster and nanoparticles more efficiently than the G1.5 dendrimer did because of the larger molecular size.  相似文献

An original diffraction model for the analysis of grazing-incidence small-angle X-ray scattering (GISAXS) from the nanoparticle Langmuir films was developed. This model relies on the concept of the 2D hexagonal paracrystal and employs the distorted-wave Born approximation that is relevant for GISAXS measurements at the air/water interface when the angle of incidence is close to the critical value. The model comprises the cases of the close-packed nanoparticle monolayer and bilayer with the AB-type layer stacking. In this way, both the lateral (along the interface) and vertical (normal to the interface) correlations of the nanoparticle positions can be analyzed. The model was applied to an in situ GISAXS study of the formation of a silver nanoparticle Langmuir film during compression at the air/water interface in the Langmuir-Blodgett trough. Spherical nanoparticles of 5.8 ± 0.6 nm diameter were employed. Different compression stages starting from the submonolayer up to the monolayer collapse via bilayer formation were analyzed in terms of the mean lateral interparticle distance, degree of paracrystal disorder, interlayer distance, vertical disorder, and layer-stacking type in the bilayer as well as the ratio between the monolayer and bilayer coverage in the final film. The model developed is applicable to any nanoparticle Langmuir film formed at the air/liquid interface to extract structural parameters on the nanoscale. The particular results obtained have direct implications on the preparation of silver plasmonic templates with "hot spots" for surface-enhanced Raman scattering.

The monodisperse silver nanoparticles were synthesized by one-step reduction of silver ions in the alkaline subphase beneath vitamin E (VE) Langmuir monolayers. The monolayers and silver nanocomposite LB films were characterized by surface pressure-area (pi-A) isotherms, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-vis), selected area electron diffraction (SAED), Fourier transform infrared transmission spectroscopy (FTIR), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), respectively. The results showed that the limiting area/VE molecule on different subphases varied. The phenolic groups in the VE molecules were converted to a quinone structure, and the silver ions were mainly reduced to ellipsoidal and spherical nanoparticles. The arrangement of the nanoparticles changed from sparseness to compactness with reaction time. The electron diffraction pattern indicated that the silver nanoparticles were face-centered cubic (fcc) polycrystalline. Silver nanocomposite LB films with excellent quality could be formed on different substrates, indicating that the transfer ratio of monolayer containing silver nanoparticles is close to unity. The dynamic process of reduction of silver ions by VE LB films was also studied through monitoring the conductivity of an Ag2SO4 alkaline solution.  相似文献

The use of new sophisticated and highly surface sensitive techniques as synchrotron based X-ray scattering techniques and in-house infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (IRRAS) has revolutionized the monolayer research. Not only the determination of monolayer structures but also interactions between amphiphilic monolayers at the soft air/liquid interface and molecules dissolved in the subphase are important for many areas in material and life sciences. Monolayers are convenient quasi-two-dimensional model systems. This review focuses on interactions between amphiphilic molecules in binary and ternary mixtures as well as on interfacial interactions with interesting biomolecules dissolved in the subphase. The phase state of monolayers can be easily triggered at constant temperature by increasing the packing density of the lipids by compression. Simultaneously the monolayer structure changes are followed in situ by grazing incidence X-ray diffraction or IRRAS. The interactions can be indirectly determined by the observed structure changes. Additionally, the yield of enzymatic reaction can be quantitatively determined, secondary structures of peptides and proteins can be measured and compared with those observed in bulk. In this way, the influence of a confinement on the structural properties of biomolecules can be determined. The adsorption of DNA can be quantified as well as the competing adsorption of ions at charged interfaces. The influence of modified nanoparticles on model membranes can be clearly determined. In this review, the relevance and utility of Langmuir monolayers as suitable models to study physical and chemical interactions at membrane surfaces are clearly demonstrated.  相似文献

We studied the adsorption of gamma-Fe 2O 3 nanoparticles from an aqueous solution under different charged Langmuir monolayers (stearic acid, stearyl alcohol, and stearyl amine). The aqueous subphase was composed of a colloidal suspension of gamma-Fe 2O 3 nanoparticles. The average hydrodynamic diameter of the nanoparticles measured by dynamic light scattering measurements was 16 nm. The observed zeta potential of +40 mV (at pH 4) results in a long-term stability of the colloidal dispersion. The behavior of the different monolayer/nanoparticle composites were studied with surface pressure/area (pi/ A) isotherms. The adsorption of the nanoparticles under the different monolayers induced an expansion of the monolayers. These phenomena depended on the charge of the monolayers. After the Langmuir/Blodgett transfer on glass substrates, the nanoparticle/monolayer composite films were studied by means of UV-vis spectroscopy. The spectra pointed to increasing adsorption of the nanoparticles with increasing electronegativity of the monolayers. On the basis of these results, we studied the in situ adsorption of nanoparticles under the different monolayers by X-ray reflectivity measurements. Electron density profiles of the liquid/gas interfaces were obtained from the X-ray reflectivity data. The results gave clear evidence for the presence of electrostatic interaction between the differently charged monolayers and the positively charged nanoparticles. While the adsorption process was favored by the negatively charged stearic acid monolayer, the positively charged layer of stearyl amine prevented the formation of ultrathin nanoparticle layers.  相似文献

The transmetalation reaction between a sacrificial nanoparticle and more noble metal ions in solution has emerged as a novel method for creating unique hollow and bimetallic nanostructures. In this report, we investigate the possibility of carrying out the transmetalation reaction between hydrophobic silver nanoparticles assembled and constrained at the air-water interface and subphase gold ions. We observe that facile reduction of the subphase gold ions by the sacrificial silver nanoparticles occurs resulting in the formation of elongated gold nanostructures that appear to cross-link the sacrificial silver particles. This transmetalation reaction may be modulated by the insertion of an electrostatic barrier in the form of an ionizable lipid monolayer between the silver nanoparticles and the aqueous gold ions that impacts the gold nanoparticle assembly. Transmetalation reactions between nanoparticles constrained into a close-packed structure and appropriate metal ions could lead to a new strategy for metallic cross-linking of nanoparticles and generation of coatings with promising optoelectonic behavior.  相似文献

We found that the amplification of weak multiple interactions between numerous peripheral branches of irregular, flexible, polydisperse, and highly branched molecules can facilitate their self-assembly into nanofibrillar micellar structures at solid surfaces and the formation of perfect long microfibers in the course of crystallization from solution. The core-shell architecture of the amphiphilic dendritic molecules provides exceptional stability of one-dimensional nanofibrillar structures. The critical condition for the formation of the nanofibrillar structures is the presence of both alkyl tails in the outer shell and amine groups in the core/inner shell. The multiple intermolecular hydrogen bonding and polar interactions between flexible cores stabilize these nanofibers and make them robust albeit flexible. This example demonstrates that one-dimensional supramolecular assembling at different spatial scales (both nanofibers and microfibers) can be achieved without a tedious, multistep synthesis of shape-persistent molecules.  相似文献

The hydrophilic characteristic of the polyelectrolyte, poly(4-styrenesulfonic acid) (PSS), was modified by associating with the surfactant, dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTMAB), to form polyelectrolyte–surfactant (PSS–DTMA) Langmuir layers at air/liquid interfaces. The interfacial behavior of the PSS–DTMA complexes was investigated with the Langmuir trough technique. The mixed PSS–DTMA Langmuir layers were then used as the two-dimensional templates to incorporate with silver precursors from the subphase, and were transferred onto mica substrates with the Langmuir–Blodgett (LB) deposition technique. The silver nanoparticles were fabricated in the resulting LB films with UV irradiation, and the morphology of the silver nanoparticle structures was analyzed by atomic force microscopy (AFM). The results indicated that increasing the DTMA+ content in the mixed PSS–DTMA system would enhance the hydrophobic characteristic of the complexes and then form stable PSS–DTMA Langmuir layers at interfaces. In addition, by varying the DTMA+ content, one could adjust the charge density in the Langmuir layer templates and thus control the association behavior between the two-dimensional templates and the silver precursors in the subphases. The AFM images demonstrated that the formation of the silver nanoparticle structures in the UV-treated LB films could be regulated with the DTMA+ content in the Langmuir layer templates. It is inferred that the polyelectrolyte–surfactant template offers a potential of designing structures of polyelectrolyte–nanoparticle materials with a template-synthesis procedure.  相似文献

The behavior of individual 1,7-dicetyltetraaza-12-crown-4 and its mixture with 1,4,7,10-tetracetyltetraaza-12-crown-4 in the Langmuir monolayers at the subphases containing Cu(II) ions or colloidal gold particles is studied. Based on the compression isotherms, the complexing ability of these amphiphilic cyclenes in a monolayer at the surface of aqueous dilute solutions of copper salt is established. It was shown that the fraction of complexes in a monolayer is proportional to the copper ion concentration in the subphase. Using surface balance, atomic force microscopy, and electron microscopy methods, it was revealed that the monolayer of dicetylcyclene at the surface of gold hydrosol binds nanoparticles from the subphase; the number of particles bound by the monolayer is proportional to their content in the hydrosol. The Langmuir–Blodgett films (LBF) of dicetylcyclene are prepared; their ability to bind copper ions from solution was disclosed by quartz crystal microbalance. The LBFs of dicetylcyclene containing gold nanoparticles in each layer are assembled.  相似文献

In this paper, we describe an easy and reliable method for the production of patterned monolayers of Co nanoparticles. A two-dimensional monolayer of Co nanoparticles is fabricated by spreading a nanoparticle solution over an air-water interface and then transferring it to a hydrophobic substrate by using the Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) method. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was used to show that, with increasing surface pressure, the Co nanoparticles become well-organized into a Langmuir monolayer with a hexagonal close-packed structure. By controlling the pH of the subphase, it was found that a monolayer of Co nanoparticles with long-range order could be obtained. Further, by transferring the Langmuir monolayer onto a poly(dimethoxysilane) (PDMS) mold, the selective micropatterning of the Co nanoparticles could be achieved on a patterned electronic circuit. The electronic transport properties of the Co nanoparticles showed the ohmic I-V curve.  相似文献

Self-assembly processes are considered to be fundamental factors in supramolecular chemistry. Langmuir monolayers of surfactants or lipids have been shown to constitute effective 2D "templates" for self-assembled nanoparticles and colloids. Here we show that alkyl-coated gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) adopt distinct configurations when incorporated within Langmuir monolayers comprising two lipid components at different mole ratios. Thermodynamic and microscopy analyses reveal that the organization of the Au NP aggregates is governed by both lipid components. In particular, we show that the configurations of the NP assemblies were significantly affected by the extent of molecular interactions between the two lipid components within the monolayer and the monolayer phases formed by each individual lipid. This study demonstrates that multicomponent Langmuir monolayers significantly modulate the self-assembly properties of embedded Au NPs and that parameters such as the monolayer composition, surface pressure, and temperature significantly affect the 2D nanoparticle organization.  相似文献

Control of molecular orientation at the substrate surface is significant to understand the surface science. Langmuir films of bent-core liquid crystals having alkyl chains at both ends were deposited on silicon substrate. Studies were carried out on air–water interface by changing pH of the subphase. On compression, molecules were arranged in stacks at high pH where as uniform monolayer was formed at lower pH. Limiting area increased at low pH, which resulted in the formation of monolayer after attaining a sustainable surface pressure. Langmuir films were transferred to silicon substrate, and atomic force microscopy images showed appropriate height profiles.  相似文献

Based on the principle of supramolecular preorganization, a new type of oligofunctional amphiphile, of which compounds 1-4 are representative structures, has been designed and synthesized. The typical feature of their structure is a highly rigid and geometrically well-defined central unit composed of ethynylene substituted aromatic spacers with different numbers of amphiphilic segment groups (also of a rigid geometric design) attached to it. The molecules form well-defined Langmuir films when spread from a solution at the air/water interface or when a 10(-4) M aqueous CaCl2 solution was used as the subphase. By analysis of the surface pressure-surface area (pi-A) isotherms, information on the packing behavior and orientation of the amphiphilic molecules depending on the molecular structure could be obtained. Morphological characterization of the dynamic process of monolayer compression at the air/water interface was carried out by Brewster angle microscopy, illustrating several phase states visualized as snap shots. Thin monolayer films produced on a 10(-4) M aqueous CaCl2 subphase can be transferred to a mica solid support by the Langmuir-Blodgett technique. Tapping mode atomic force microscopy reveals a surface topography of the monofilms composed of 1 and 3 that differ in roughness and also in the properties of elasticity, hardness and adhesive strength. X-Ray crystal structure analysis of three relevant intermediate compounds of the synthesis were successfully determined giving an indication of the potential structural features inherent in the new amphiphiles.  相似文献

The formation of a phospholipidic layer was achieved in two steps: (1) a dimyristoyl-l-α-phosphatidic acid (DMPA) Langmuir monolayer was formed by spreading a chloroform/methanol DMPA solution onto an aqueous subphase; after a 10 min period, the monolayer was compressed at 5mNm−1; and (2) keeping the area of the DMPA monolayer constant, a dimyristoyl-l-α-phosphatidylcholine (DMPC) liposomal suspension was added. The progressive incorporation of DMPC molecules into the DMPA monolayer was studied by monitoring the variation of surface pressure with time at constant film area. Three parameters involved in the formation of the interfacial layer DMPA/liposomal DMPC (DMPA/ lip-DMPC) were studied: liposome addition, aqueous subphase composition and initial surface pressure of the DMPA monolayer. The transfer of this mixed layer was controlled through a traceable fluorescent probe incorporated in the liposomes. The thickness and homogeneity of the Langmuir-Blodgett films thus obtained were assessed through Fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy and Nomarski microscopy, respectively. This study shows that the DMPA/lip-DMPC monolayer could be transferred without dragging of aggregates or mesophases.  相似文献

The effect of compression of a stearic acid Langmuir monolayer on the interaction of copper ions with the monolayer and on the formation of interface clusters has been studied as functions of pH and ionic content of the water subphase. Copper binding was estimated by direct electron paramagnetic resonance measurements of ion concentrations in the water subphase. A scanning tunnelling microscopy study of monolayer Langmuir-Blodgett films, deposited on graphite substrates, gave evidence for the formation of nanosized clusters on the monolayer surface. The data obtained showed that the interaction of the monolayer with copper ions and the accompaning cluster formation processes were determined by the arrangement, order and mobility of the stearic acid molecules in the monolayer and the electrostatics at the interface.  相似文献

A commonly stated requirement for the preparation of stable Langmuir monolayers of amphiphilic molecules at an air/water interface is that the surfactant must be insoluble in the subphase solution; however, a few prior studies have reported that some soluble surfactants can, under certain conditions, be compressed. The anomalous compression of soluble amphiphiles is extremely interesting and important, as it presents the possibility of greatly increasing the number of candidate compounds suitable for Langmuir monolayer studies and Langmuir-Blodgett deposition. The aim of this work was to obtain a better understanding of the factors that determine whether monolayers of a given water-soluble surfactant can be compressed. A series of amine oxide surfactants, including a novel gemini surfactant, were studied to explore the relationship between molecular structure and behavior at the air/water interface. Amine oxides are an especially interesting class of surfactants because their self-assembly in solution and at interfaces is pH-sensitive. Surface pressure-area isotherms show that the solubility of a surfactant in the subphase solution is not, in and of itself, a useful parameter in predicting whether the monolayer is compressible. Molecular modeling calculations suggest that the tendency of molecules to self-assemble plays a much more important role than solubility in this regard. The effect of pH was also investigated. We present a hypothesis that formation of dimers or small clusters of molecules at the interface inhibits the dissolution of these species into the subphase, and as a consequence the monolayer can be compressed.  相似文献

Negatively charged magnetite nanoparticles with an average size of about 10 nm have been synthesized by a chemical coprecipitation method using sodium dodecyl benzene sulphonate as a surface modifying reagent. Composite Langmuir monolayer of Fe3O4 nanoparticles and geminus surfactant 1,3‐propylenebis(dodecyldimethylammonium) dibromide (C12‐C3‐C12) was prepared on the subphase of Fe3O4 nanoparticle hydrosols. In the presence of the magnetite nanoparticles, the collapse pressure of the composite monolayer and the limited mean molecular area of C12‐C3‐C12 are higher than those on pure water subphase. Transmission electron microscopy observation of a C12‐C3‐C12/Fe3O4 nanoparticle complex shows that Fe3O4 nanoparticles and geminus surfactant had an unexpected hexagonal nanoarchitecture at the air‐liquid interface when the surface pressure of the composite monolayer increased to about 12 mN·m?1. A mechanism for constructing the particular nanopatterned configuration of the C12‐C3‐C12/Fe3O4 nanoparticle complex in the Langmuir layer directly from the unique molecular structure of the geminus surfactant and the interfacial interactions between C12‐C3‐C12 and the components in the subphase was proposed.  相似文献

A newly designed 1.5th generation poly(amido amine) dendrimer with an azacrown core, hexylene spacers, and octyl terminals was spread on gold nanoparticle (Au-NP) suspension. The surface pressure-area isothermal curves indicated that the molecular area of dendrimer on Au-NP suspension was significantly smaller than that on water, indicating the formation of dendrimer/Au-NP composites. The dendrimer Langmuir films on the Au-NP suspension were transferred to copper grids at various surface pressures and observed by transmission electron microscopy. The transferred films consisted of a fractal-like network of nanoparticles at low surface pressure and of a defect-rich monolayer of nanoparticles at high surface pressure. From these results, it was suggested that the dendrimers bind Au-NPs, and dendrimer/Au-NP composites formed networks or monolayers at the interface. From the intensity decrease of the Au plasmon band of Au-NP suspension after the formation of composite, it was estimated that some (approximately 14) dendrimer molecules bind to one Au-NP. Furthermore, neutron reflectivity at the air/suspension interface and X-ray reflectivity of the film transferred on a silicon substrate revealed that the dendrimer molecules are localized on the upper-half surface of Au-NP. Metal affinity of azacrown, flexibility of hexylene spacer, and amphiphilicity of dendrimer with octyl terminals played important roles for the formation of dendrimer/Au-NP hybrid films. The present investigation proposed a new method to fabricate the self-assembled functional polymer/nanoparticle hybrid film.  相似文献
