The scattering of electromagnetic plane wave from a coated nihility circular cylinder placed in chiral metamaterial is investigated. The nihility cylinder is coated with chiral or chiral-nihility metamaterial and the medium hosting the coated cylinder is also considered as chiral or chiral-nihility metamaterial. The vector wave equation is used to find out the solution for the fields scattered from the concentric chiral ciruclar cylinders immersed in chiral metamaterial. Inner chiral cylinder is reduced to nihility cylinder taking permittivity and permeability approaching to zero with chirality parameter equal to zero. Coated perfect electric conductor (PEC)/perfect magnetic conductor (PMC) are obtained by taking very large value of permittivity/permeability of the inner cylinder. Numerical results for fields reflected from coated nihility cylinder are compared with those obtained for coated PEC/PMC cylinder. Our results for the special case of dielectric coated nihility/PEC cylinders in free space are shown to be in agreement with already published results thus validating the scheme of analysis.  相似文献

The acoustic scattering from an elastic elliptic cylinder immersed in water and excited by a normally incident plane wave is considered in this paper. The purpose is to determine, theoretically and experimentally, the pressure scattered by this cylinder. A model based on the theory of elasticity is described briefly. It consists in carrying out expansions in Fourier series of the expressions relating to the conditions of continuity (displacements and constraints) at the surface of cylinder. These expressions form a system of equations. The resolution of this system enables us to obtain the scattering coefficient, then the pressure scattered by the cylinder. The numerical results obtained from this model are compared with experimental results obtained by means of an experimental short-pulse method presented in the literature. An good agreement between the results is noted.  相似文献

An analytical model of acoustic field excited by a pulsed-laser line source on a coated cylinder is presented. Surface wave dispersive behaviours for a cylinder with a slow coating are analysed and compared with that of a bare cylinder. Based on this analysis, the laser-generated transient response of the perturbed Rayleigh wave and the higher modes of steel cylinder with a zinc coating are calculated from the model using residue theory and FFT technique. The theoretical result from the superposed waveform of the perturbed Rayleigh wave and higher modes agree well with the waveform obtained in experiment. The results show that the model and numerical method provide a useful technique for quantitatively characterizing coating parameters of coated cylinder by the laser generated surface waves.  相似文献

Natural frequencies and buckling loads for cylindrical shells having linearly varying thickness are obtained by using a segmentation technique. The present results for free vibration of a cylinder compare very well with those obtained previously. The effect of the thickness variation on the frequencies of a cylindrical shell is studied. Frequencies are also calculated for a cylinder of variable thickness under axial compression and a relationship between the frequency and axial compression is obtained for a particular wave number.  相似文献

The radiation from a charge uniformly rotating about a conducting cylinder immersed into a homogeneous medium was studied. Expressions for electric and magnetic fields, as well as for the surface charge and currents induced by the initial charge on the cylinder surface were obtained. A formula is derived for spectral-angular distribution of the radiation intensity. The results of a numerical analysis are presented.  相似文献

The screening effect of a finite nonferromagnetic symmetric cylinder is investigated theoretically and experimentally. The work is based on the definitions for the screening effect with respect to frequency and phase response. A mathematical solution is obtained by solving the integral equation for the magnetic vector potential. Experimental tests support the theoretical results. It is shown that the short cylinder with certain design parameters provides a far better screening effect (in particular for attenuation peaks) than does a cylinder of infinite length. This applies to certain regions at the cylinder openings. This effect is caused by current displacement in the axial direction.  相似文献

It has been reported that transverse distribution shaping can help to further enhance the energy extraction efficiency in a terawatt, tapered X-ray free-electron laser. Thus, methods of creating and keeping an almost uniform transverse distributed(UTD) beam within undulators are required. This study shows that a UTD electron beam can be generated within evenly distributed drift sections where undulators can be placed, by means of octupoles and particular optics. A specific design is presented, and numerical simulations are performed to verify the proposed method.  相似文献

 对标准圆筒试验技术与数据处理方法进行了深入研究,在狭缝扫描实验中建立了新型、高效的照明技术、底片判读方法以及数据处理方法,得到了精度高、信息丰富的圆筒壁质点上的位移、速度、加速度和比动能结果。同时,通过VISAR技术直接测量了圆筒外表面径向膨胀速度-时间曲线,进而积分得到位移-时间曲线,与狭缝扫描结果相互印证和补充,进一步提高了测试可靠性。  相似文献

Scattering from a perfect electric conducting cylinder with random radius buried below a half space dielectric homogenous interface is studied. The cylindrical wave scattered by cylinder is expanded in terms of plane wave spectrum. Small perturbation method is used to study the interaction of each plane wave with the interface. The zeroth order term yields solution for a flat interface, whereas scattering from a rough surface is given by first-order term. Results are obtained for both TM and TE polarizations. Analytical expressions of the average scattered field are obtained and verified using numerical evaluation. Different scattering scenarios are simulated by varying the distribution of the radius. It is observed that average scattering cross section of an ensemble with normal/uniform distribution is almost equal to that of a cylinder with mean radius.  相似文献

Noise attenuation by a hard wedge-shaped barrier   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
This paper is concerned with the problem of sound screening by a wedge-like barrier. The sound source is assumed to be point like, and the receiver is located in the shadow of the source sound field, so that according to geometrical optics only the field diffracted by the edge of the barrier is considered. First, for the hard wedge in space, three models are used for calculating the amplitude of the edge-diffracted field. These are the uniform theory of diffraction (UTD), the Hadden-Pierce model, both in the frequency domain, and the Biot-Tolstoy theory of diffraction which is a time domain formulation. It is first shown that even at relatively low frequencies, the frequency domain models perform quite satisfactorily as compared to the exact time domain theory. Hence, and due to its relative simplicity the UTD is proposed as an accurate calculation scheme for solving problems with edge diffraction by hard wedges. It is also proved from theoretical calculations that the amplitude of the edge-diffracted field increases for an increasing angle of the wedge, and consequently the hard half-plane gives the lowest field amplitude in the shadow zone. Some applications are then considered for evaluating the performance of a barrier on a flat ground, either completely hard or with mixed homogeneous boundary conditions. An improvement of the scheme for calculating the sound field in the all-hard case is achieved through considering the multiple diffraction, in this case only to the second order, between the top of the wedge barrier and its base. The results show that for usually occurring situations, increasing the angle of the hard wedge barrier affects negatively its efficiency through diminishing its insertion loss. These conclusions are also supported by the results of some experimental measurements conducted at a scale-model level.  相似文献

The flexural vibration of a homogeneous isotropic linearly elastic cylinder of any aspect ratio is analysed in this paper. Natural frequencies of a cylinder under uniformly distributed axial loads acting on its bases are calculated numerically by the Ritz method with terms of power series in the coordinate directions as approximating functions. The effect of axial loads on the flexural vibration cannot be described by applying infinitesimal strain theory, therefore, geometrically nonlinear strain–displacement relations with second-order terms are considered here. The natural frequencies of free–free, clamped–clamped, and sliding–sliding cylinders subjected to axial loads are calculated using the proposed three-dimensional Ritz approach and are compared with those obtained with the finite element method and the Bernoulli–Euler theory. Different experiments with cylinders axially compressed by a hydraulic press are carried out and the experimental results for the lowest flexural frequency are compared with the numerical results. An approach based on the Ritz formulation is proposed for the flexural vibration of a cylinder between the platens of the press with constraints varying with the intensity of the compression. The results show that for low compressions the cylinder behaves similarly to a sliding–sliding cylinder, whereas for high compressions the cylinder vibrates as a clamped–clamped one.  相似文献

The radiation from an axisymmetric thin-walled cylinder is determined by using the Geometrical Theory of Diffraction. The non-uniformities associated with this theory are corrected by using uniform asymptotic techniques, and the farfield velocity potential is calculated everywhere. The theory provides a paradigm for interpretation of geometrical features of the directivity pattern in the far field, and the results are discussed from this perspective. Comparison is made with analytical results obtained by using the Wiener-Hopf technique and the agreement is shown to be excellent. In particular, the uniform asymptotic techniques give the correct farfield form of the velocity potential in the principal lobe and predict the value at the peak of the principal lobe very accurately. This work provides a theoretical basis for the investigation of the radiation from asymmetric cylinder apertures, which has important applications in the noise reduction of aircraft, and which is discussed in a companion paper.  相似文献

Diffraction of an acoustic wave by an elastic cylinder near the surface of an elastic halfspace is considered. The solution relies on a Helmholtz-type integral equation and uses the Green function of an elastic halfspace. The latter function is represented in the form of an integral over the Sommerfeld contour on the plane of a complex variable that has the meaning of the angle of the wave incidence on the halfspace boundary. An integral equation for the sound pressure distribution over the cylinder surface is derived. This equation is reduced to an infinite system of equations for the Fourier-series expansion coefficients of this distribution. The results obtained are valid for the diffraction of a cylindrical wave and a plane wave. They also describe the diffraction of a spherical wave when the transmitter and receiver are far from the cylinder and lie in one plane that is orthogonal to the cylinder axis.  相似文献

In this study, a hybrid approach based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was used to investigate the aerodynamic forces associated with vortex-induced vibration (VIV) in a circular cylinder. The circular cylinder and the flow field were considered as two substructures of a system. Circular cylinder motion was produced in a wind tunnel test of the VIV prior to the numerical simulation; this motion was used as a known cylinder boundary condition and applied to the flow field. The flow field with the known moving boundary condition was then numerically simulated by the ANSYS CFX code. The transient aerodynamic coefficients of the circular cylinder with predetermined motion were obtained from the numerical simulation. To verify the feasibility and accuracy of the proposed hybrid approach and to calculate cylinder vibrations, the transient aerodynamic coefficients were applied to a single degree of freedom (SDOF) model of the circular cylinder. The oscillation responses of the circular cylinder from the calculated (SDOF model) and experimental results were compared, and the results indicate that the hybrid approach accurately simulated the transient aerodynamic coefficients of the circular cylinder. For further comparison, a nonlinear aerodynamic coefficient model based on a nonlinear least square technique was applied to the SDOF model. The nonlinear aerodynamic model can predict well the amplitude and lock-in region of the VIV of the circular cylinder model.  相似文献

The Centre for Industrial and Engineering Optics, DIT, Ireland, have recently developed and applied new optical techniques for the measurement of mechanical strain, one of which was based on electronic speckle pattern interferometry (ESPI). The accuracy of this optical technique when used on flat surfaces is well established. In this research the technique is tested on curved surfaces, and results are compared with the theoretical hoop strain as predicted by the bi-axial strain equation modified for the thin cylinder, and by those obtained by electrical resistance strain gauge (ERSG) undoubtedly the principal method of measuring mechanical strain. For testing procedures, a special unit was designed and produced for holding and loading the thin cylinder. Also the basic equation for hoop strain by ESPI for flat surfaces was modified for applications on curved surfaces.Thin cylinder hoop strain obtained by ESPI and calculated by a modified equation show remarkably good correlation to the predicted theoretical value as well as to the results obtained by ERSG. Since the ESPI theory was originally developed for use on flat surfaces, there are reasonable grounds for further investigating this relationship especially where curved surfaces are involved.  相似文献

Abstract  

It is known that for a square cylinder subjected to uniform flow, the drag force changes with the angle of attack. To clarify the flow characteristics around a square cylinder with corner cutoffs, we measured the drag coefficient and the Strouhal number for changing chamfer dimensions. We analyzed the flow around a square cylinder with corner cutoffs by applying the RNG kε turbulent model, and investigated the surface flow pattern using visualization by means of the oil film and mist flow method. From these results, we obtained the surface flow patterns by the oil film method and numerical analysis. The numerical results agreed well with the experimental values. The drag coefficient of the square cylinder with corner cutoffs decreased suddenly at an angle of attack of about α = 0°– 10° when compared with the drag coefficient for a square cylinder. The minimum value of the drag coefficient for the square cylinder with corner cutoffs decreased by about 30% compared with that for the square cylinder. The drag coefficient of the square cylinder with 10% corner cutoffs was found to be smallest, since the wake area of this square cylinder was smaller compared with that of the other square cylinder.  相似文献
