We investigate the efficient generation of broadband cascaded four-wave mixing products seeded at different wavelengths in photonic crystal fibers, with a high-peak power picosecond pulse pumping in the anomalous dispersion region as well as the normal dispersion regime. Multiple four-wave mixing products with different frequency intervals have been experimentally achieved when pumping in the anomalous dispersion region. Measured results present bandwidths of over 500 nm. We have also experimentally demonstrated that only seeding at the Stokes or anti-Stokes peaks can we get the efficient generation of cascaded four-wave mixing or cascaded stimulated Raman scattering when pumping in the normal dispersion regime.  相似文献

We demonstrate the coexisting four-wave mixing (FWM) signal and six-wave mixing (SWM) signal which can be enhanced both by electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) and optical pumping effect in a common three-level and open four-level inverted-Y type systems of 85Rb. We also analyze the effect of optical pumping in different energy level systems by arranging laser beams and comparing the strength of the increased and reduced absorption caused by optical pumping.  相似文献

A numerical calculation procedure and various large-signal numerical solutions are presented for degenerate four-wave mixing in optical Kerr media, and for phase conjugate resonators using degenerate four-wave mixing. The solutions presented take full account of nonlinear refractive index changes, pump depletion, signal saturation, distributed losses, and possible external mirrors with laser gain. We find that including the nonlinear index change generally causes little change in the reflectivity or power output of degenerate four-wave mixing devices, at least with symmetric pumping. The optimum power output from a phase conjugate resonator with and without a laser gain medium is calculated. The results provide some theoretical guidance for designing phase conjugate resonators.  相似文献

By designing and fabricating a series of dual-interferometer coupled silicon microrings, the coupling condition of the pump, signal, and idler beams can be engineered independently and then we carried out both the continuous-wave and pulse pumped four-wave mixing experiments to verify the dependence of conversion efficiency on the coupling conditions of the four interacting beams, respectively. Under the continuous-wave pump, the four-wave mixing efficiency gets maximized when both the pump and signal/idler beams are closely operated at the critical coupling point, while for the pulse pump case, the efficiency can be enhanced greatly when the pump and converted idler beams are all overcoupled. These experiment results agree well with our theoretical calculations. Our design provides a platform for explicitly characterizing the four-wave mixing under different pumping conditions, and offers a method to optimize the four-wave mixing, which will facilitate the development of on-chip all-optical signal processing with a higher efficiency or reduced pump power.  相似文献

We study the effect of stimulated Raman scattering on four-wave mixing sidebands generated by pumping in the normal dispersion regime of a photonic crystal fiber. Q-switch nanosecond pulses at 1064 nm are used to generate signal and idler wavelengths by degenerate four-wave mixing. These three waves generate their own Raman Stokes orders, leading to a broadband supercontinuum.  相似文献

A multi-wavelength fiber laser based on the cascaded four-wave mixing in highly-nonlinear photonic-crystal fiber is proposed and investigated. The cascade operation is initiated by two strong pump waves boosted by multi-mode pumping erbium/ytterbium co-doped double-cladding fiber amplification technique. A segment of highly-nonlinear near-zero-dispersion-flattened photonic crystal fiber is employed to induce highly efficient cascaded four-wave mixing. The wavelength spacing can be continuously tunable by stretching the fiber Bragg grating. Experimental results show that multiple wavelengths with a high optical side-mode suppression-ratio of >30 dB are achieved. Furthermore, the proposed multi-wavelength fiber laser exhibits an excellent stability at room temperature.  相似文献

Based on double optical pumping channels,we experimentally study the competition between two coexistent six-wave mixing(SWM) processes falling into two electromagnetically induced transparency windows by scanning the frequency of the probe field in two similar five-level atomic systems of 85Rb.By blocking one optical pumping channel unrelated to the four-wave mixing(FWM) process,one SWM process,together with the FWM process,generated by a conjugated small-angle static grating could be observed in the spectrum.Moreover,the other SWM process obtained by blocking the first SWM channel is also observed together with the FWM process in a lower N-type four-level subsystem.These experimental results agree well with theoretical predictions.  相似文献

In this paper the generation of four-wave mixing (FWM) signal using a noncycling transition of caesium atoms is investigated when the pumping laser is locked to the transition $6{\rm S}_{1/2}F=4\to6{\rm P}_{3/2}F'=4$, and meanwhile the probe frequency is scanned across the $6{\rm S}_{1/2}F=4 \to6{\rm P}_{3/2}$ transition. The efficiency of the four-wave mixing signal as a function of the intensity of the pumping beams and the detuning of the pumping beams is also studied. In order to increase the detection efficiency, a repumping laser which is resonant with $6{\rm S}_{1/2} F=3\to 6{\rm P}_{3/2}F'=4$ transition is used. A theoretical model is also introduced, and the theoretical results are in qualitative agreement with experimental ones.  相似文献

An experimental study of the effects of an auxiliary 976 nm pump signal on the four-wave mixing parametric bands generated with a 1064 nm pump in a normal dispersion Er-doped photonic crystal fiber is presented. The four-wave mixing signal and idler bands shift to shorter and longer wavelengths, respectively, with increasing 976 nm pump power. It is shown that the wavelength-dependent resonant refractive index change in the erbium-doped core under 976 nm pumping is at the origin of the effect.  相似文献

We experimentally demonstrate a light storage via slow-light four-wave mixing in a solid-state medium with a four-level double lambda scheme. Using slow light based on electromagnetically induced transparency, we obtain a slowed four-wave mixing signal pulse together with the slowed probe pulse. During the propagation of light pulses, the storage and retrieval of both the slowed four-wave mixing pulse and the slowed probe pulse are studied by manipulating the intensities of the control fields.  相似文献

A novel high-power broadband source based on the combined action of stimulated Raman scattering and parametric four-wave mixing in a highly nonlinear dispersion-shifted fiber ring cavity is investigated experimentally. we report on the generation of cascaded four-wave mixing (CFWM) in a photonic crystal fiber with a high peak power picosecond pulse pumping in the normal dispersion region and a weak continuous wave seeded. We also experimentally investigate the dependence of CFWM bandwidth on the seeding wavelengths. Experimental results demonstrate the existence of optimum seeding wavelengths for broadband CFWM even though the pulse wavelength is 50 nm shorter than the zero dispersion wavelength. We report on a slowing down of light pulses using degenerate backward-wave four-wave mixing in a photorefractive crystal. The delay and width of the output pulse for the amplified transmitted beam and for the phase-conjugated beam are studied as a function of the input pulse width. We demonstrate that the four-wave mixing process ensures a larger slowing down of short pulses compared to the photorefractive two-beam coupling scheme and guarantees the elimination of forerunners, which are among the principal drawbacks for slowing down of short pulses with two-beam coupling. The technique may be extended to slowing down of light with degenerate or nearly degenerate backward-wave four-wave mixing based on other types of nonlinearities.  相似文献

We study four-wave mixing between pulses in two subchannels of a quasi-linear 40-Gbit/s subchannel-multiplexed system. For a pseudorandom bit string there are resonances in the mean of the ghost pulse energy and in the jitter of the energy in the marks as functions of the subchannel frequency spacing. However, away from these resonances the effect of four-wave mixing decreases as the subchannel spacing increases, permitting propagation over longer distances.  相似文献

利用高非线性光纤中的交叉相位调制和四波混频分别在仿真中实现了时间透镜. 对基于交叉相位调制的时间透镜中的高非线性光纤中的非线性过程进行了仿真分析. 仿真结果表明, 该时间透镜的主要影响因素为色散、自相位调制与四波混频; 通过采用带有一定色散斜率的高非线性光纤可同时消除色散、自相位调制和四波混频的影响; 另外, 该高非线性光纤的色散零点最好选在信号脉冲和抽运脉冲波长的中心附近. 然后对基于四波混频的时间透镜的实现进行了仿真分析. 仿真结果表明, 该时间透镜的主要影响因素为色散、 自相位调制和其他的四波混频; 通过设定合适大小的信号脉冲和抽运脉冲的功率可消除自相位调制和其他的四波混频的影响; 另外, 通过在高非线性光纤中引入一定的色散可进一步提高信号脉冲和抽运脉冲的功率, 从而获得更高功率的输出脉冲. 最后对两种时间透镜系统做出了比较. 关键词: 光脉冲压缩 时间透镜 交叉相位调制 四波混频  相似文献

Four-wave mixing processes are shown to provide a high efficiency of non-linear optical frequency conversion and spectral transformation of ultrashort pulses in supercontinuum-generating microstructure fibers. Pump-depleting conversion of 800-nm radiation to the spectral range around 500 nm is achieved by phase-matching the parametric four-wave mixing process for 80-fs Ti:sapphire-laser pulses. The ways to use microstructure fibers for generating frequency-tunable radiation through four-wave mixing with the maximum efficiency of pump-field frequency conversion are discussed.
