Summary Thin-layer chromatographic (TLC) behaviour of 51 inorganic ions on a strongly acidic cation-exchanger, sulphoethyl (SE) cellulose, has been studied systematically in sulphuric acid and ammonium sulphate media (0.01–0.2 mol dm−3). Some aspects of the adsorption behaviour of the inorganic ions on the SE-cellulose are compared with those on other cation-exchangers in the same eluent systems. The possibilities for TLC separations of analytical interest are also proposed on SE-cellulose in sulphuric acid and acid ammonium sulphate media.  相似文献

A new method for the separation of trace amounts of palladium from hydrochloric acid and potassium thiocyanate media has been established based on the formation of an ion-pair complex of palladium thiocyanate anion Pd(SCN)4(2-) and the cationic potassium complex of dicyclohexyl- 18-crown-6 (DC18C6) in chloroform. The effect of various factors (solvent, crown ether, potassium thiocyanate, hydrochloric acid, reagent concentration, shaking time, phase volume ratio, composition of the extracted species, foreign ions, etc.) on the extraction and back-extraction of palladium has been investigated. The method can be combined with subsequent FAAS determination of palladium. The procedure was applied to determine palladium traces in chloroplatinic acid and rhodium chloride.  相似文献

Summary Thin-layer chromatographic behavior of 58 inorganic ions on polyethyleneimine (PEI) cellulose has been systematically surveyed in hydrochloric acid — ammonium thiocyanate media. In this media most of the ions distribute chromatographically on the layer. Ag(I), Hg(II), Pd(II), Au(III), Bi(III), Ru(III), Pt(IV), Nb(V), Ta(V), Mo(VI), and W(VI) are strongly retained, while alkali earths(II), Mg(II), As(III), Ti(IV), and Te(VI) are not absorbed to any great extent in this system. An interesting correlation was found between the Rf values on PEI-cellulose in the thiocyanate media and the paramagnetic moment of the rare earths(III). An oddeven fluctuation against the atomic number is also found for the heavy rare earths(III). Chromatographic separation of many inorganic ions of analytical interest is demonstrated in this system.  相似文献

Summary The thin-layer chromatographic behavior of 49 inorganic ions has been systematically studied on layers of sulfoethyl (SE) cellulose, a strongly acidic cation-exchanger, with binary solvent mixtures consisting of sulfuric acid and an organic solvent such as methanol or acetone. The characteristic retention on the cellulose layer can be recognized for some ions forming sulfato complexes in the acid-organic solvent medium, and some aspects of the behavior are discussed. Chromatographic separations of analytical interest are also demonstrated on the SE-cellulose layer with acid-methanol and acid-acetone solutions used as mobile phases.  相似文献

A spectrophotometric study has been made of the reaction between ferric and thiocyanate ions in sulphuric acid solution. The effects of acidity, thiocyanate concentration, persulphate concentration, temperature, light and added beryllium sulphate upon the stability and colour intensity of the solution are described.For analytical applications in the absence of added sulphate ions the best results are obtained at an acid normality of 1.5 to 2.0, while in the presence of beryllium sulphate at molar concentration it is desirable to increase the acid normality to 3.0. Precise control of thiocyanate concentration and temperature is required. The solutions obey Beer's law and an ultimate sensitivity of 0.035 p.p.m. of Fe is obtained when using a I cm cell.  相似文献

Summary Thin-layers of an intermediately acidic cation exchanger, cellulose phosphate (P-cellulose), have systematically been used to study the chromatographic behavior of 58 inorganic ions in both hydrochloric acid and acid ammonium thiocyanate media (0.01–2.0 mol dm−3). In both solvent systems, the R f values of many bivalent cations increase with increasing concentration of the acid and thiocyanate. Polyvalent metal ions including beryllium (II) and the others are strongly retained on the P-cellulose in the acid and thiocyanate systems tested. Palladium(II), mercury(II), ruthenium(III), rhenium(VII), arsenic(III), selenium(IV) and tellurium(IV) are not adsorbed on P-cellulose to any great extent. For silver(I), indium(III), gold(III), and platinum(IV), there are marked differences in the chromatographic behavior between hydrochloric acid and acid ammonium thiocyanate systems. Multicomponent separations conducted on P-cellulose plates with these eluents are presented.  相似文献

The reducing properties of metallic mercury in solutions containing ions forming precipitates or complexes with mercuric or mercurous ions have been studied.The reducing power of mercury in the presence of thiocyanate is greatly enhanced, and it is similar to that in the presence of hydrochloric acid. The effects of the thiocyanate and ferric concentrations have been examined. To reduce a 0.01 M solution of ferric ion without forming a precipitate of mercurous thiocyanate, a concentration of thiocyanate of at least 0.05 M is required. The action of mercurythiocyanate system on some oxidising substances has been studied. The most important reaction is the reduction of ferric ions. The method has been applied to the determination of iron on macro and semimicroscale and good results have been obtained.The reducing power of metallic mercury in the presence of cyanide has also been examined. In general it acts as a strong reducer in alkaline medium. Atmospheric oxygen is reduced partially to water and hydrogen peroxide. Ferricyanide is reduced quantitatively to ferrocyanide. The action of metallic mercury in the presence of cyanide on other oxidising substances has also been examined.  相似文献

n-Octylaniline in bezene was used for the extractive separation of molybdenum (VI) from hydrochloric acid medium. Molybdenum(VI) was extracted quantitatively from 10 ml aqueous solution 1.5M in hydrochloric acid and 10M in lithium chloride into 10 ml of 10%n-octylaninline in benzene. It was stripped from the organic phase with 5% aqueous ammonia solution and estimated spectrophotometrically with thiocyanate at 465 nm. The interference of various ions has been studied in detail and conditions have been established for the determination of molybdenum(VI) in synthetic mixtures and alloy samples.  相似文献

The thiocyanate (SCN(-)) anion is known as one of the best denaturants, which is also capable of breaking the hydrogen-bond network of water and destabilizing native structures of proteins. Despite prolonged efforts to understand the underlying mechanism of such Hofmeister effects, detailed dynamics of the ions in a highly concentrated solution have not been fully elucidated yet. Here, we used a dispersive IR pump-probe spectroscopic method to study the dependence of vibrational lifetimes and rotational relaxation times of thiocyanate ions on KSCN concentration in D(2)O. The nitrile stretch mode is used as a vibrational probe for dispersed IR pump-probe and FTIR measurements. To avoid possible self-attenuation of the IR pump-probe signal by highly concentrated SCN(-) ions, we added a small amount of (13)C-isotope-labeled thiocyanate ions (S(13)CN(-)) and focused on the excited-state absorption contribution to the IR pump-probe signal of the (13)C-isotope-labeled nitrile stretch mode. Quite unexpectedly, the vibrational lifetime of S(13)CN(-) ions is independent of the total KSCN concentration in the range from 0.46 m (molality) to 11.8 m while the rotational relaxation time of S(13)CN(-) ions is linearly dependent on the total KSCN concentration. By combining the present experimental findings with the fact that the dissolved ions of KSCN salt have a strong tendency to form a large ion cluster in a highly concentrated aqueous solution, we believe that the ion clusters consisting of potassium and thiocyanate ion pairs in D(2)O behave like ionic liquids and the ions inside ion clusters are weakly bound by electrostatic Coulombic interactions. The ability of SCN(-) ions to form ion clusters in aqueous protein solutions seems to be a key to understand the Hofmeister ion effect. We anticipate that the present experimental results provide a clue for further elucidating the underlying mechanism of the Hofmeister ion effects on protein stability in the future.  相似文献

Solvent extraction with 0.05 mol L(-1) dicyclohexano-18-crown-6 (DC18C6) in 1,2-dichloroethane, coupled with flame atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS), has been investigated as a new method for separation of trace amounts of silver(I) from 0.05 mol L(-1) potassium thiocyanate in 1.0 mol L(-1) hydrochloric acid media and quantification of the amount of silver present. The method is based on the formation of an extractable ion-association product, [DC18C6.K](+)[Ag(SCN)(2)](-), with a metal-to-crown ether ratio of 1:1 (as derived from slope analysis data). Stripping of the extracted silver(I) in the 1,2-dichloroethane phase was achieved within 5 min by use of 3.0 mol L(-1) potassium thiocyanate. Reducing the concentration of acid in the sample solution to 0.1 mol L(-1) improved the preconcentration factor severalfold. Excellent tolerance of the proposed method to the presence of foreign ions in solution with silver(I) was demonstrated. A detection limit of 13 ng mL(-1) was derived from the mean value of the blank plus three times its standard deviation. The method was used to determine traces of silver(I) after separation from gold(III), platinum(IV), and palladium(II) matrices on the basis of extractability differences with 18-membered crown ethers under specified conditions. The efficiency of the adopted ion-association mechanism for silver(I) extraction was apparent from the average recovery of 96% for spiked standards by use of the back-washing technique. The proposed extraction procedure was applied to the determination of traces of silver(I) in a selection of chemical reagents.  相似文献

Summary The thin-layer chromatographic behavior of 49 inorganic ions on polyethyleneimine (PEI) cellulose has been investigated in hydrochloric acid media (0.01–1.0 mol dm−3). The sorption on the cellulose decreases with increasing acid concentration for most of the ions, but As(III), Ti(IV) and Te(VI) do not exhibit any Rf variation with the acid concentration. The Rf spectra of TI(I), Cd(II), Pb(II) and Zn(II) have a maximum. Ag(I), Bi(III), Nb(V), Ta(V), Mo(VI) and W(VI) are retained tightly on the layer, due to either insoluble salt formation or extensive hydrolysis. The extremely low Rf values of Hg(II), Pd(II), Au(III), Ru(III) and Pt(IV) are accounted for by stability of their chlorocomplexes. Re(VII) distributes chromatographically, having moderate Rf values between 0.3 and 0.6, so that the selective separation of Re(VII) from the other ions is feasible.  相似文献

Only a few metals can be adsorbed on DEAE-cellulose from aqueous thiocyanate-chloride media. However, several metal ions, including Cu(II), Zn, Cd, In, Bi and U(VI), exhibit enhanced adsorption on DEAE-cellulose from methanol-thiocyanate-hydrochloric acid mixtures. The distribution coefficients for these metals are given as functions of methanol, ammonium thiocyanate and hydrochloric add concentration. Differences in adsorption among metals permit many useful separations, including those of two-, three- and four-component mixtures, on short columns containing 1-1.5 g of DEAE-cellulose.  相似文献

The behaviour of bismuth, cadmium, copper, lead, silver, tin and zinc on a cation-exchange resin in a solvent system consisting of dimethyl sulphoxide, hydrochloric acid and water was studied. The distribution coefficients of these metal ions between liquid and resin were determined as functions of the concentration of dimethyl sulphoxide and of hydrochloric acid. On the basis of the distribution coefficients found, predictions were made as to the possibilities of separating these metals from mixtures. Such separations were confirmed experimentally for bismuth from lead, bismuth from copper, zinc from lead, lead from cadmium, silver from copper, silver from lead, lead from cadmium from zinc, bismuth from lead from zinc, and bismuth from zinc from copper.  相似文献

A procedure is proposed for the separation and determination of molybdenum in iron matrices by a batch process. It is based on the solid-phase extraction of the molybdenum(V) ion as thiocyanate complex on polyurethane (PU) foam. The extraction parameters were optimized. Using 0.20 mol L-1 hydrochloric acid, a thiocyanate concentration of 0.10 mol L-1, 100 mg of polyurethane foam and shaking time of 10 min, molybdenum (5-400 micrograms) can be separated and preconcentrated from large amounts of iron (10 mg). Desorption was carried out instantaneously by conc. nitric acid or acetone. Distribution coefficients, sorption capacity of the PU foam and coefficients of variation were also evaluated. The effect of some ions on the separation procedure was assessed. Iron(III) should be reduced to iron(II). The proposed procedure was used to determine molybdenum in standard iron matrices such as steel and pure iron. The achieved results did not show significant differences with certified values.  相似文献

An indirect spectrophotometric method for the determination of small amounts of chloride in fresh waters is described. Chloride ions react with mercury(II) thiocyanate to liberate thiocyanate ions, which can be selectively extracted into nitrobenzene with tris(1,10-phenanthroline)iron(II) chelate cations. The red color (516 nm) of the organic phase measured against a reagent blank is proportional to the initial concentration of chloride ions in the aqueous phase. At least an equimolar amount of tris(1,10-phenanthroline)iron(II) chelate and a 3-fold amount of mercury(II) thiocyanate are needed; the optimal pH range is 1.5–3.5. Beer's law is obeyed over the concentration range of 0.8–5.6 10-5 M of chloride. The color stability and the apparent sensitivity are better than those of the mercury(II) thiocyanate-iron(III) method. Large amounts of sulphate, phosphate, fluoride, carbonate, acetate, potassium, sodium, and ammonium ions had negligible or no effect ; bromide, iodide, cyanide, sulphide, and thiocyanate interfere.  相似文献

A study of the quantitative reduction of ferric salts by sulphurous acid was carried out. Experiments were made to determine the optimum conditions of temperature, concentration, and acidity; working in a neutral medium with the lowest possible iron concentration is recommended, saturation being effected at room temperature and the heating with sulphur dioxide taking place immediately afterwards.It was found that thiocyanate ions strongly catalyse the reaction; the conditions for the analytical utilization of this catalysis were studied.  相似文献

The extraction of Np(IV), Pu(IV) and U(VI) from aqueous hydrochloric acid into quaternary amines has been studied. The dependence of the distribution coefficient on amine concentration suggests that the actinide ions extracted are NpCl 6 2− PuCl 6 2− and UO2Cl 4 2− . This is further supported by the absorption spectra of the amine extracts of these actinide ions. Based on the extraction data obtained, a simple method for the separation of typical metal ions such as Cs, lanthanides and Zr from U(VI) and Pu(IV) is suggested.  相似文献
