The temperature dependence of the different binding states of oxygen on Pd(111) has been studied using photoemission spectroscopy and Auger spectroscopy. By examining the oxygen 2s binding energies, three distinct states are observed, which are identified as surface chemisorbed oxygen, oxygen incorporated into the first Pd layer, and subsurface oxygen. Changes in the relative oxygen Auger peak heights for 1000 K exposure temperature are explained if the oxygen is assumed to become more negatively charged as it penetrates the Pd surface. A model for the interaction of oxygen with the Pd(111) surface is proposed.  相似文献

The deposition and ripening of Pd atoms on the MgO(1 0 0) surface are modeled using kinetic Monte Carlo simulations. The density of Pd islands is obtained by simulating the deposition of 0.1 ML in 3 min. Two sets of kinetic parameters are tested and compared with experiment over a 200-800 K temperature range. One model is based upon parameters obtained by fitting rate equations to experimental data and assuming the Pd monomer is the only diffusing species. The other is based upon transition rates obtained from density functional theory calculations which show that small Pd clusters are also mobile. In both models, oxygen vacancy defects on the MgO surface provide strong traps for Pd monomers and serve as nucleation sites for islands. Kinetic Monte Carlo simulations show that both models reproduce the experimentally observed island density versus temperature, despite large differences in the energetics and different diffusion mechanisms. The low temperature Pd island formation at defects is attributed to fast monomer diffusion to defects in the rate-equation-based model, whereas in the DFT-based model, small clusters form already on terraces and diffuse to defects. In the DFT-based model, the strong dimer and trimer binding energies at charged oxygen vacancy defects prevent island ripening below the experimentally observed onset temperature of 600 K.  相似文献

In this work we have studied the stabilty, electronic and magnetic properties of Pd adatoms and dimers adsorbed on graphene system using first-principles calculations. The adsorption energies for Pd adatom and its dimer have been found to range from −0.986 to −1.135 eV and −0.165 to −1.101 eV, respectively, which signify stable configuration and future utilization of this system in catalysis. A shift but no separation of π and π? bands at the Dirac point has been observed in case of Pd dimer adsorption in perpendicular configuration, which can be accounted for the breaking of symmetry of the graphene structure due to adsorption. 64-68% spin polarization P(EF) and 1.944-1.990 μB magnetic moment have been observed for Pd dimers adsorbed on graphene in perpendicular configuration for different sites. The unequal values of partial density of states for 4d and 5s orbitals of Pd dimers at Fermi level have been found to be responsible for the generation of high spin polarization.  相似文献

We have investigated the one dimensional Fe/Pd, Fe/Cu, Fe/Ag, and Fe/Au multilayered nanowire systems by using first principles density functional theory. Our study reveals a gain in the binding energies of these heterostructures regardless of nature of the spacer. We have identified the electronic structure dependent enhancement of magnetic properties, and a switching behavior of the interlayer exchange coupling, with respect to the nature and dimension of the nonmagnetic spacer layer. We observe a down-spin (minority) d-charge depletion at the Fe site and a up-spin d-charge gain at Pd site in Fe/Pd nanowire which accounts for the enhanced magnetic moment of the Fe atoms and the ferromagnetic behavior of the Pd, in contrast to the paramagnetism appearing in their bulk state. We find the interlayer exchange coupling, I ex , in Fe/Pd nanowire to be very strong, and it shows a change of sign and a decrease in magnitude with increase in Pd spacer width. On the other hand, I ex shows an unusual increasing trend with increase in the Cu spacer layer thickness.  相似文献

The ab initio method based on density functional theory at the B3PW91 level has been applied to study the geometric, electronic, and magnetic properties of neutral and anionic Au n Pd (n?=?1–9) clusters. The results show that the most stable geometric structures adopt a three-dimensional structure for neutral Au7Pd and Au8Pd clusters, but for anionic clusters, no three-dimensional lowest-energy structures were obtained. The relative stabilities of neutral and anionic Au n Pd clusters were analysed by means of the dependent relationships between the binding energies per atom, the dissociation energies, the second-order difference of energies, the HOMO–LUMO energy gaps and the cluster size n, and a local odd–even alternation phenomenon was found. Natural population analysis indicates the sequential transfer from the Pd atom to the Au n frame in Au1,2,3,5Pd and Au2,3Pd? clusters, and from the Au n frame to the Pd atom in other clusters. Much to our surprise, irrespective of whether it is the total magnetic moment or the local magnetic moment, the magnetic moment presents an odd–even alternation phenomenon as a function of the cluster size n. The magnetic effects are mainly localized on the various atoms (Au or Pd) for different cluster size n.  相似文献

We have investigated the doubly excited 2s2p 3 P o and 2s3p 1 P o resonance states of H embedded in a model plasma environment. Plasma effects are taken care of by using a screened Coulomb (Yukawa-type) potential. Correlated wave functions are used to represent the correlation effect between the charged particles. The density of resonance states has been calculated using the stabilization method. The calculated resonance energies and widths for various screening parameters are reported.  相似文献

由于SiC禁带宽度大,在金属/SiC接触界面难以形成较低的势垒,制备良好的欧姆接触是目前SiC器件研制中的关键技术难题,因此,研究如何降低金属/SiC接触界面的肖特基势垒高度(SBH)非常重要.本文基于密度泛函理论的第一性原理赝势平面波方法,结合平均静电势和局域态密度计算方法,研究了石墨烯作为过渡层对不同金属(Ag,Ti,Cu,Pd,Ni,Pt)/SiC接触的SBH的影响.计算结果表明,单层石墨烯可使金属/SiC接触的SBH降低;当石墨烯为2层时,SBH进一步降低且Ni,Ti接触体系的SBH呈现负值,说明接触界面形成了良好的欧姆接触;当石墨烯层数继续增加,SBH不再有明显变化.通过分析接触界面的差分电荷密度以及局域态密度,SBH降低的机理可能主要是石墨烯C原子饱和了SiC表面的悬挂键并降低了金属诱生能隙态对界面的影响,并且接触界面的石墨烯及其与金属相互作用形成的混合相具有较低的功函数.此外,SiC/石墨烯界面形成的电偶极层也可能有助于势垒降低.  相似文献

The growth and alloying of thin Zn layers on Pd(1 1 1) was investigated using X-ray and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy as well as low energy electron diffraction and correlated with density functional calculations. At 105 K, the formation of a pseudomorphic Zn monolayer is observed. Upon heating this layer to 550 K or upon deposition of 1 ML at 550 K, an ordered p(2 × 1) PdZn surface alloy with a Pd:Zn ratio of ∼1:1 is formed, with a characteristic Pd 3d5/2 peak at a binding energy of ∼335.6 eV. For deposition of 3 ML Zn at 550 K or by heating 3 ML, deposited at low temperature, to 500 or 600 K, a PdZn alloy with a Pd:Zn ratio of again ∼1:1 is found in the surface region, with a Pd 3d5/2 peak at ∼335.9 eV; the direct preparation at 550 K leads to a more homogeneous and better ordered alloy. The valence band spectrum of this alloy with a low density of states at the Fermi level and pronounced maxima due to the “Pd 4d” band at ∼2.4 and 3.9 eV closely resembles the spectrum of Cu(1 1 1), in good agreement with the calculated density of states for a PdZn alloy of 1:1 stoichiometry. The shift of the “Pd 4d” band to higher binding energies as compared to Pd(1 1 1) indicates a charge transfer from Zn to the Pd 4d levels. Overall, the similarity between the ultraviolet photoelectron spectra for the PdZn alloy and for Cu(1 1 1) is taken as explanation for the similar chemical activity of both systems in methanol steam reforming.  相似文献

Hydrogen storage reactions on Pd-doped C60 fullerene are investigated by using the state-of-the-art density functional theory calculations. The Pd atom prefers to bind at the bridge site between two hexagonal rings, and can bind up to four hydrogen molecules with average adsorption energies of 0.61, 0.45, 0.32, and 0.21 eV per hydrogen molecule. With no metal clustering, the system gravimetric capacities are expected to be as large as 5.8 wt%. While the desorption activation barriers of the complexes nH2 + Pd–C60 with n = 1 are outside the department of energy (DOE) domain (?0.2 to ?0.6 eV), the desorption activation barriers of the complexes nH2 + Pd–C60 with n = 2–4 are inside this domain. While the interaction of 1H2 with Pd + C60 is irreversible at 459 K, the interaction of 2H2 with Pd + C60 is reversible at 529 K. The hydrogen storage of the irreversible 1H2 + Pd–C60 and reversible 2H2 + Pd–C60 interactions are characterised in terms of densities of states, infrared, Raman, and proton magnetic resonance spectra, electrophilicity, and statistical thermodynamic stability.  相似文献

We have used a fully self-consistent multiple scatteringX α method within the local density formalism to study the charge distribution, bonding characteristics and the density of states in CuMn alloy. The charge distribution shows almost no ionic character but significant hybridization ofs andd states is observed near the Fermi level. The crystal field splittings, ionization energies and the excitation energies are calculated and compared with experiments wherever available.  相似文献

Using first-principles methods, we have studied the electronic structure and lattice dynamics of CaPd3B and compared them to isostructural MgNi3C. CaPd3B possesses less electronic states at the Fermi level, but more phonon modes at low frequencies, than MgNi3C. According to the phonon density of states, low frequency acoustic modes are dominated by Pd states, corresponding to Ni in MgNi3C. Furthermore, these Pd modes show soft phonons, which may be significant for second-order phase transitions. Based on the comparison to MgNi3C, we suggest that the properties of these two compounds may be similar.  相似文献

By the spectral and kinetic characteristics of the luminescence of vapors of polyatomic molecules (anthracene, anthraquinone, fluorenone) initiated by selective IR multiphoton excitation (IR MPE) of molecules in the ground electronic state S 0 the relaxation processes proceeding under vibrational excitation of molecules to energies exceeding the energies of the lower excited electronic states have been investigated. The changes in the spectral and kinetic characteristics with increasing CO2 laser energy density and vapor P v and foreign gas pressure P FG are analyzed. They are similar to the characteristics obtained for normal fluorescence of these molecules with changing vibrational energy E vib content. On the basis of experimental data and model calculations it has been concluded that at the laser radiation densities used in the case of IR MPE the molecules reach energies considerably exceeding the energies of the electronic levels. It is shown that a nonadiabatic connection between the electronic states leads to the population of mixed electronic states isoenergetic to the vibrational levels of the ground electronic state and to emission of delayed luminescence spectrally identical to the normal luminescence of these molecules. It has been found that when high vibrational levels are populated, new relaxation channels, such as reverse electron relaxation, emission from high vibrational levels of the ground electronic state, and multiquantum vibrational energy transfer at collisions leading to a rapid establishment of vibrational equilibrium become important.  相似文献

The hydration properties of Lanthanum-doped barium stannate have been studied using density functional calculations. The interaction energy between elementary defects (proton-dopant and oxygen vacancy-dopant) have been calculated in charged states corresponding to p-type conditions. Surprisingly, the most attractive energies are not found for first-neighbor relative positions. The geometric distortions and the electronic densities of state in the different configurations involved are presented. With these data, two simple models are used to estimate the energy of the hydration reaction. 本文基于密度泛函理论计算分析了手性参数为(17,0)、(20,0)、(26,0) (10,10)、(12,12)、(15,15)的碳化硅纳米管的能带图,态密度及主要光学性质。结果表明:锯齿型与扶手椅型碳化硅纳米管均具有明显的半导体性质;在相近直径下,扶手椅型碳化硅纳米管带隙宽度要大于锯齿型碳化硅纳米管的带隙宽度;碳化硅纳米管的光吸收峰在100nm~200nm之间,可用于制作紫外线探测器件。  相似文献

The self-consistent electron energy band spectra of crystals and charged sublattices of alkaline-earth metal oxides and sulfides are calculated in the framework of the density functional theory within the pseudopotential approximation in the basis set of localized orbitals. The charge states of sublattices (such as neutral sublattices, empty metal sublattices, and doubly charged anion sublattices) are analyzed with due regard for the electrical neutrality of the crystal. It is demonstrated that the valence bands of the studied crystals are very similar to the valence bands of the doubly charged anion sublattices. The distributions of the valence electron densities of the crystals are virtually identical to those of the anion sublattices. The lower conduction bands of the crystals and doubly charged anion sublattices also almost coincide with each other for MgO and MgS but differ substantially for CaO and CaS. This is associated with the difference between the contributions from the anions and cations to the conduction band of the crystals. It is found that these contributions depend on the relative energy positions of p and d unoccupied states.

The valence bands of glassy Pd100?xSix (15?x?21) and pure Pd were studied by XPS and UPS. The valence band spectra of the alloys show a strongly reduced density of states at the Fermi energy EF compared to Pd. From the measured relative photoelectric cross sections for the different excitation energies we conclude that the electron states near EF of the glassy alloys have mainly d-character. This is in good agreement with recent measurements of the low-temperature specific heat, the magnetic susceptibility and the optical reflectivity.  相似文献
