Preparation, I.R. Spectra, and X-ray Studies of the Tetraformates of Thorium, Protactinium, Uranium, and Neptunium The anhydrous tetraformates of Th, Pa, U, and Np were prepared by the reaction of the tetrachlorides with formic acid. The infrared spectra were obtained in the range of 4 000 to 40 cm^?1. Th(HCOO)₄, Pa(HCOO)₄, and Np(HCOO)₄ crystallize in a tetragonal body-centered lattice and U(HCOO)₄ in a monocline C-lattice.

Zusammenfassung Es wird ein einfaches elektrophoretisches Verfahren zur Trennung und Bestimmung von Thorium, Protaktinium und Uran beschrieben, das auf den unterschiedlichen Wanderungsgeschwindigkeiten der Oxalatokomplexe der drei Elemente im elektrischen Feld beruht. Ihre quantitative Trennung gelingt unter Verwendung eines 0,12 m Ammoniumoxalat-Elektrolyten bei einem Potentialgradienten von 16 V/cm und einer Trenndauer von 2 Std. Die anionische Wanderung der Metalloxalatokomplexe nimmt in der Reihenfolge Th, Pa, U stark zu.

Summary A simple electrophoretic procedure for the separation and determination of thorium, protactinium and uranium is described, based on the different migration velocities of the oxalate complexes of the three elements in an electric field. Their quantitative separation is achieved using a 0.12 M ammonium oxalate electrolyte applying a potential gradient of 16 V/cm for two hours. The anionic migration of the metal oxalate complexes increases in the order Th, Pa, U.

Li[Ph₂P(NSiMe₃)₂] (1) reacts with anhydrous lanthanide and actinide chlorides to give metallacyclophosphazene derivatives, which contain a four-membered metalladiazaphosphetidine ring. The complexes [Ph₂P(NSiMe₃)₂]₂MCl (3: M = Pr, 4: M = Nd), [Ph₂P(NSiMe₃)₂]₂MCl₂ (5: M = U, 6: M = Th) and [Ph₂P(NSiMe₃)₂]₂UO₂ (7) were isolated. Treatment of UCl₄ with Li[t-Bu₂P(NSiMe₃)₂] (2) yields green crystalline [t-Bu₂P(NSiMe₃)₂]₂UCl₂ (8).
