We study the photodetachment of H ? ion in crossed gradient electric and magnetic fields and put forward an analytical formula for calculating the photodetachment cross-section. Compared to the photodetachment of H ? ion in a gradient electric field, the Hamiltonian of the detached electron has three degrees of freedom, which makes the dynamical behaviour of the detached electron complex. Photodetachment cross-section for various external fields and the laser polarization are calculated and displayed. A comparison with the photodetachment cross-section in crossed uniform electric and magnetic fields or in a single gradient electric field has been made. The agreement of our results with the above two special cases suggests the correctness of our calculation. Our study may have some potential applications in the photodetachment microscopy experiment or in ion detection.  相似文献

We study the effect of an external field on (1 + 1) and (2 + 1) dimensional elastic manifolds, at zero temperature and with random bond disorder. Due to the glassy energy landscape the configuration of a manifold changes often in abrupt, “first order”-type of large jumps when the field is applied. First the scaling behavior of the energy gap between the global energy minimum and the next lowest minimum of the manifold is considered, by employing exact ground state calculations and an extreme statistics argument. The scaling has a logarithmic prefactor originating from the number of the minima in the landscape, and reads ΔE 1L θ[ln(L z L - ζ)]-1/2, where ζ is the roughness exponent and θ is the energy fluctuation exponent of the manifold, L is the linear size of the manifold, and Lz is the system height. The gap scaling is extended to the case of a finite external field and yields for the susceptibility of the manifolds ∼L 2D + 1 - θ[(1 - ζ)ln(L)]1/2. We also present a mean field argument for the finite size scaling of the first jump field, h 1L d - θ. The implications to wetting in random systems, to finite-temperature behavior and the relation to Kardar-Parisi-Zhang non-equilibrium surface growth are discussed. The effective linear and nonlinear optical properties of metal/dielectric composite media, in which ellipsoidal metal inclusions are distributed in shape, are investigated. The shape distribution function P(L x, L y) is assumed to be 2Δ-2θ(L x - 1/3 + Δ/3)θ(L y - 1/3 + Δ/3)θ(2/3 + Δ/3 - L x - L y), where θ( . . . ) is the Heaviside function, Δ is the shape variance and Li are the depolarization factors of the ellipsoidal inclusions along i-symmetric axes (i = x, y). Within the spectral representation, we adopt Maxwell-Garnett type approximation to study the effect of shape variance Δ on the effective nonlinear optical properties. Numerical results show that both the effective linear optical absorption α ∼ ωIm() and the modulus of the effective third-order optical nonlinearity enhancement |χ(3) e|/χ(3) 1 exhibit the nonmonotonic behavior with Δ. Moreover, with increasing Δ, the optical absorption and the nonlinearity enhancement bands become broad, accompanied with the decrease of their peaks. The adjustment of Δ from 0 to 1 allows us to examine the crossover behavior from no separation to large separation between optical absorption and nonlinearity enhancement peaks. As Δ → 0, i.e., the ellipsoidal shape deviates slightly from the spherical one, the dependence of |χ(3) e|/χ(3) 1 on Δ becomes strong first and then weak with increasing the imaginary part of inclusions' dielectric constant. In the dilute limit, the exact formula for the effective optical nonlinearity is derived, and the present approximation characterizes the exact results better than old mean field one does. We show that the photodetachment of H? in an electric field near a metal surface can be controlled by using a single or double laser pulse. The method of theoretical analysis used is semi-classical closed orbit theory. The results show that if the period of a certain closed orbit is longer than the pulse width of the single-pulse laser, the contribution of that closed orbit to the photodetachment cross-section will be greatly reduced. As for the double-pulse laser, the pulse width, phase difference and the time delay between the two pulses all play an important role in the photodetachment cross-section. With the decrease of the time delay, the oscillating amplitude of the cross-section increases while the oscillating frequency decreases. Therefore, laser pulses can be used to control the photodetachment process of negative ions or atoms in an external field near metal surfaces.  相似文献

A two-colour laser technique is developed for photodetachment microscopy, by means of microwave modulation of a CW single-mode dye laser. A phase modulation regime is achieved through an electro-optical LiNbO3 crystal excited at the frequency 1.95 GHz. The two first sidebands created are selected by rejection of the other orders through a plane Fabry-Perot interferometer. With the resulting two-colour radiation, the photodetachment microscopy technique is applied to a beam of 32S ions. It is shown that the superposition of the two resulting interference patterns can be used as a ‘spectral vernier’ to remove the uncertainty on the electric field and absolute energy scale. Without any initial assumption on the value F of the electric field in the laser-ion interaction region, a measure of F and of the electron affinity eA of Sulfur can be obtained. Putting 16 recordings of two-colour photodetachment interferograms together, with the only condition that F be the same for all experiments, one gets eA(32S) = 16752.978(11) cm−1, which is quite compatible, even though not as accurate, with the most recently recommended value eA(32S) = 16752.9760(42) cm−1. A proposal is made for going from an incoherent to a coherent two-colour photodetachment scheme, which would make photodetachment interferograms sensitive to a new degree of freedom.  相似文献

Formal expressions are derived for the multipole expansion of the structure functions of a general polarization observable of exclusive electrodisintegration of the deuteron using a longitudinally polarized beam and/or an oriented target. This allows one to exhibit explicitly the angular dependence of the structure functions by expanding them in terms of the small rotation matrices d j m'm(θ), whose coefficients are given in terms of the electromagnetic multipole matrix elements. Furthermore, explicit expressions for the coefficients of the angular distributions of the differential cross-section including multipoles up to L max = 3 are listed in tabular form. We show that strong incoherent broad band light causes positive feedback in response to a static electric field in random media: electric current flows in opposite to a voltage drop direction; static polarization is induced in opposition to an applied electric field. This type of the electron motion amplifies the external action revealing anti-Le-Chatelet behavior. The applied static electric field is amplified up to the domain of optical damage of a silica glass ≈107 V/cm.  相似文献

Principles and applications are described for a form of Doppler-free optical double resonance spectroscopy which uses amplitude modulation sidebands (v L ±v) imposed on a single laser frequency (v L ). The sidebands are generated by passing the carrier radiationv L through an electro-optic modulator, driven at a radiofrequency ν, which enables the intensity and polarization characteristics of the emerging radiation to be varied for enhancement of selected double-resonance processes. The technique has been applied to infrared-infrared double-resonance studies of the Stark effects of a variety of molecules—13CH3F,12CH3F, PH3,15NH3, GeH4, SiH4, and CH3D—for which physical results are presented and discussed. These results include determination of extremely small electric dipole moments (10−3–10−5 debye) for GeH4 and CH3D and, for the dipole moment of PH3, a vibrational state dependence which is extremely small (Δμ=0.0028(5) debye for ∣Δv 2∣=1) and a rotational state dependence which is of an unexpected sign. The spectra recorded in some cases display unusual polarization and optical saturation effects which deviate markedly from the predictions of a simple three-wave polarization theory.  相似文献

We calculate the cross-section of the inverse beta decay process,v e+n → p+e, in a background magnetic field which is much smaller than m p 2/e . Using exact solutions of the Dirac equation in a constant magnetic field, we find the cross-section for arbitrary polarization of the initial neutrons. The cross-section depends on the direction of the incident neutrino even when the initial neutron is assumed to be at rest and has no net polarization. Possible implications of the result are discussed.  相似文献

The phenomenological investigation of noncommutative space-time in the laboratory frame is presented. We formulate the apparent time variation of noncommutativity parameter θμν in the laboratory frame due to the earth’s rotation. Furthermore, in the noncommutative QED, we discuss how to probe the electric-like component θ E =(θ010203) by the process at future e-e+ linear collider. We may determine the magnitude and the direction of θ E by detailed study of the apparent time variation of the total cross-section. If no signal is observed, the upper limit on the magnitude of θ E can be determined independent of its direction.  相似文献

The weighted total cross-section (WTCS) theory is used to calculate electron impact excitation, ionisation and dissociation cross-sections and rate coefficients of OH, H2, OH+, H2 +, OH- and H2 - diatomic molecules in the temperature range 1500–15000 K. Calculations are performed for H2(X, B, C), OH(X, A, B), H2 +(X), OH+(X, a, A, b, c), H2 -(X) and OH-(X) electronic states for which Dunham coefficients are available. Rate coefficients are calculated from WTCS assuming Maxwellian energy distribution functions for electrons and heavy particles. One and two temperature (θe and θg respectively for electron and heavy particles kinetic temperatures) results are presented and fitting parameters (a, b and c) are given for each reaction rate coefficient: k(θ) = a (θb)exp (-c/θ).  相似文献

Filamentation occurs within a 1.5 cm-long crystal of BaF2 during the propagation of intense, ultrashort (40 fs) pulses of 800 nm light; a systematic study as a function of incident power enables us to extract quantitative information on laser intensity within the condensed medium, the electron density and the six-photon absorption cross section. At low incident power, a single filament is formed within the crystal; two or more filaments are observed along the direction transverse to laser propagation at higher incident powers. Further, due to fluorescence from six-photon absorption (6PA), we are able to map the intensity variation in the focusing–refocusing cycles along the direction of laser propagation. At still higher incident powers, we observe splitting of multiple filaments. By measuring the radius (L min ) of single filament inside BaF2, we obtain estimates of peak intensities (I max ) and electron densities (ρ max ) to be 3.26×1013 W cm−2 and 2.81×1019 cm−3, respectively. Use of these values enables us to deduce that the 6PA cross-section in BaF2 is 0.33×10−70 cm12 W−6 s−1.  相似文献

We examine the effects of mixing induced light heavy charged lepton neutral currents on the partial wave amplitude for the process l+lZZ (withl = e,μ or τ). By imposing the constraints that the amplitude should not exceed the perturbative unitarity limit at high energy (√s = Λ), we obtain bounds on light heavy charged lepton mixing parameter sin2(2θ L a ) where θ L a is the mixing angle of the ordinary charged lepton with its exotic partner. For Λ = 1 TeV, no bound is obtained on sin2 (2θ L a ) form E < 0.69 TeV. However, sin2 (2θ L a ) ≤ 1.52×10−5 form E = 5 TeV, sin2 (2θ L a ) ≤ 2.41 ×10−7 form E = 10 TeV. Similarity for Λ = ∞ no bound is obtained on sin2 (2θ L a ) for mE < 1.97 TeV and sin2 (2θ L a ) ≤ 0.15 form E = 5 TeV and sin2 (2θ L a ) ≤ 3.88×10-2 form E = 10 TeV.  相似文献

The Er:YAG and the CO2 laser are competitors in the field of hard tissue ablation. The use of Er:YAG lasers (2.94 μm, pulse length L of 100 to 200 μs) show smaller areas of thermal defects then ‘‘superpulsed’’ CO2 lasers with pulse lengths of approximately 100 μs. Only the development of a Q-switched CO2 laser (9.6 μm, τL=250 ns) allowed for similar results. In this paper new results for the Er:YAG and the Q-switched CO2 laser under the influence of water spray will be presented. Several parameters are of special interest for these investigations: the specific ablation energy, which shows a minimum for the CO2 laser at an energy density of 9 J/cm 2 and a broad shallow minimum in the range of 10 to 70 J/cm2 for the Er:YAG laser, and comparison of the cut-shape and depth. We observe electric pulses generated in sillenite crystals (Bi12SiO20 and Bi12TiO20) by 100-fs laser pulses at the wavelength of 400 nm (below the band gaps of both crystals). The peak value of the current pulses scales linearly with the intensity of laser pulses up to ∼45 GW/cm2. The direction of the induced current depends on the polarization state of the laser pulse. This polarization dependence and features of the current detection via charge accumulation at the sample electrodes allow us to conclude that the electric pulses are generated due to the linear photogalvanic effect.  相似文献

Differential and integral features of incoherent X-radiation, induced by relativistic electrons in crystals, are studied for observation angles θγ several times greater than γ-1, where γ is the projectile Lorentz factor. The existence of sharp maxima and a minimum of the five-folded incoherent differential cross-section as a function of the final electron angles, and a dip minimum when the cross-section is taken as a function of the photon energies, is demonstrated. At near backward observation angles the three-folded cross-section shows a maximum in the region of several keV photon energies. The obtained results allow us to optimize the conditions for coincidence experiments, minimizing the incoherent contribution to the total radiation yield, and helping to analyse results of finite-size detector experiments with crystal targets. The results confirm that the depolarization current in TGS follows the formula Id∼[(ωpt)n+(ωpt)m]-1, where n<1 and m>1. The values of the parameters n and m depend on both the electric field strength and the polarization time as well as on the temperature of the experiment. The loss peak frequency ωp exhibits activation character: ωp∼exp(-E/kBT) with E=0.34 eV at temperatures directly below room temperature and E=0.013 eV in the range of liquid nitrogen temperatures. The plasma composition of a discharge sustained by a pulsed ionization source of μs duration is computed. It is shown that, within a time interval of ∼10−6 s after the ionization pulse, the dependences of the ion densities on the electric field and ionization source power show features that should be taken into account when developing laser systems for controlling electric discharges in long air gaps. The effect of the plasma composition on the efficiency of electron photodetachment from negative O 2 ions is investigated by the example of a discharge initiation system consisting of two lasers with different pulse durations and wavelengths. Plasmochemical processes under conditions of enhanced electron photodetachment from negative O 2 ions are simulated. It is shown that photodetachment can increase the electron density for a time of <10−5 s.  相似文献
