If T is a (commutative unital) ring extension of a ring R, then Λ(T /R) is defined to be the supremum of the lengths of chains of intermediate fields between R P /P R P and T Q /QT Q , where Q varies over Spec(T) and P:= QR. The invariant σ(R):= sup Λ(T/R), where T varies over all the overrings of R. It is proved that if Λ(S/R)< ∞ for all rings S between R and T, then (R, T) is an INC-pair; and that if (R, T) is an INC-pair such that T is a finite-type R-algebra, then Λ(T/R)< ∞. Consequently, if R is a domain with σ(R) < ∞, then the integral closure of R is a Prüfer domain; and if R is a Noetherian G-domain, then σ(R) < ∞, with examples showing that σ(R) can be any given non-negative integer. Other examples include that of a onedimensional Noetherian locally pseudo-valuation domain R with σ(R)=∞.  相似文献

Let T be a bounded linear operator in a Banach space, with σ(T)={1}. In 1983, Esterle-Berkani' s conjecture was proposed for the decay of differences (I - T) T^n as follows: Eitheror lim inf (n→∞(n+1)||(I-T)T^n||≥1/e or T = I. We prove this claim and discuss some of its consequences.  相似文献

The paper deals with the structure of intermediate subgroups of the general linear group GL(n, k) of degree n over a field k of odd characteristic that contain a nonsplit maximal torus related to a radical extension of degree n of the ground field k. The structure of ideal nets over a ring that determine the structure of intermediate subgroups containinga transvection is given. Let K = k( n?{d} ) K = k\left( {\sqrt[n]{d}} \right) be a radical degree-n extension of a field k of odd characteristic, and let T =(d) be a nonsplit maximal torus, which is the image of the multiplicative group of the field K under the regular embedding in G =GL(n, k). In the paper, the structure of intermediate subgroups H, THG, that contain a transvection is studied. The elements of the matrices in the torus T = T (d) generate a subring R(d) in the field k.Let R be an intermediate subring, R(d) ⊆ Rk, dR. Let σR denote the net in which the ideal dR stands on the principal diagonal and above it and all entries of which beneath the principal diagonal are equal to R. Let σR denote the net in which all positions on the principal diagonal and beneath it are occupied by R and all entries above the principal diagonal are equal to dR. Let ER) be the subgroup generated by all transvections from the net group GR). In the paper it is proved that the product TER) is a group (and thus an intermediate subgroup). If the net σ associated with an intermediate subgroup H coincides with σR,then TER) ≤ HNR),where NR) is the normalizer of the elementary net group ER) in G. For the normalizer NR),the formula NR)= TGR) holds. In particular, this result enables one to describe the maximal intermediate subgroups. Bibliography: 13 titles.  相似文献

Let A and B be standard operator algebras on Banach spaces X and Y, respectively. The peripheral spectrum σπ (T) of T is defined by σπ (T) = z ∈ σ(T): |z| = maxw∈σ(T) |w|. If surjective (not necessarily linear nor continuous) maps φ, ϕ: AB satisfy σπ (φ(S)ϕ(T)) = σπ (ST) for all S; TA, then φ and ϕ are either of the form φ(T) = A 1 TA 2 −1 and ϕ(T) = A 2 TA 1 −1 for some bijective bounded linear operators A 1; A 2 of X onto Y, or of the form φ(T) = B 1 T*B 2 −1 and ϕ(T) = B 2 T*B −1 for some bijective bounded linear operators B 1;B 2 of X* onto Y.   相似文献

On the Isolated Points of the Spectrum of Paranormal Operators   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
For paranormal operator T on a separable complex Hilbert space we show that (1) Weyl’s theorem holds for T, i.e., σ(T) \ w(T) = π00(T) and (2) every Riesz idempotent E with respect to a non-zero isolated point λ of σ(T) is self-adjoint (i.e., it is an orthogonal projection) and satisfies that ranE = ker(T − λ) = ker(T − λ)*.  相似文献

 This article is concerned with sums 𝒮(t) = ∑ n  ψ(tf(n/t)) where ψ denotes, essentially, the fractional part minus ?, f is a C 4-function with f″ ≠ 0 throughout, summation being extended over an interval of order t. We establish an asymptotic formula for ∫ T−Λ T+Λ (𝒮(t))2dt for any Λ = Λ(T) growing faster than log T. This paper studies the symmetry, with respect to the real axis, of the point spectrum of the upper triangular infinite dimensional Hamiltonian operator H. Note that the point spectrum of H can be described as σp(H) = σp(A) ∪σp1(-A*). Using the characteristic of the set σp1(-A*), we divide the point spectrum σp(A) of A into three disjoint parts. Then, a necessary and sufficient condition is obtained under which σp1(-A*) and one part of σp(A) are symmetric with respect to the real axis each other. Based on this result, the symmetry of σp(H) is completely given. Moreover, the above result is applied to thin plates on elastic foundation, plane elasticity problems and harmonic equations.  相似文献

Let H 1, H 2 be Hilbert spaces and T be a closed linear operator defined on a dense subspace D(T) in H 1 and taking values in H 2. In this article we prove the following results:
(i)  Range of T is closed if and only if 0 is not an accumulation point of the spectrum σ(T*T) of T*T, In addition, if H 1 = H 2 and T is self-adjoint, then
(ii)  inf {‖T x‖: xD(T) ∩ N(T)x‖ = 1} = inf {|λ|: 0 ≠ λσ(T)}
(iii)  Every isolated spectral value of T is an eigenvalue of T
(iv)  Range of T is closed if and only if 0 is not an accumulation point of the spectrum σ(T) of T
(v)  σ(T) bounded implies T is bounded.
We prove all the above results without using the spectral theorem. Also, we give examples to illustrate all the above results.  相似文献

Summary. We study the 2D Ising model in a rectangular box Λ L of linear size O(L). We determine the exact asymptotic behaviour of the large deviations of the magnetization ∑ t∈ΛL σ(t) when L→∞ for values of the parameters of the model corresponding to the phase coexistence region, where the order parameter m * is strictly positive. We study in particular boundary effects due to an arbitrary real-valued boundary magnetic field. Using the self-duality of the model a large part of the analysis consists in deriving properties of the covariance function <σ(0)σ(t)>, as |t|→∞, at dual values of the parameters of the model. To do this analysis we establish new results about the high-temperature representation of the model. These results are valid for dimensions D≥2 and up to the critical temperature. They give a complete non-perturbative exposition of the high-temperature representation. We then study the Gibbs measure conditioned by {|∑ t∈ΛL σ(t) −m L ||≤|Λ L |L c }, with 0<c<1/4 and −m *<m<m *. We construct the continuum limit of the model and describe the limit by the solutions of a variational problem of isoperimetric type. The following theorem is proved. Let Λ be a divisor of n points of the unit disk and let σ1, σ2,...σ n be a finite sequence of nonzero complex numbers. Then there exists a Hankel operator Γ of rank n such that the divisor of the poles of its symbol is Λ and the eigenvalues of Γ (counted with the multiplicities) are σ1, σ2,...σ n Bibliography: 11 titles. Let σ(n) be the minimum number of ideal hyperbolic tetrahedra necessary to construct a finite volumen-cusped hyperbolic 3-manifold, orientable or not. Let σor(n) be the corresponding number when we restrict ourselves to orientable manifolds. The correct values of σ(n) and σor(n) and the corresponding manifolds are given forn=1,2,3,4 and 5. We then show that 2n−1≤σ(n)≤σor(n)≤4n−4 forn≥5 and that σor(n)≥2n for alln. Both authors were supported by NSF Grants DMS-8711495, DMS-8802266 and Williams College Research Funds.  相似文献

If T or T* is an algebraically quasi-class A operator acting on an infinite dimensional separable Hilbert space then we prove that Weyl’s theorem holds for f(T) for every f H(σ(T)), where H(σ(T)) denotes the set of all analytic functions in an open neighborhood of σ(T). Moreover, if T* is algebraically quasi-class A then a-Weyl’s theorem holds for f(T). Also, if T or T* is an algebraically quasi-class A operator then we establish that the spectral mapping theorems for the Weyl spectrum and the essential approximate point spectrum of T for every f H(σ(T)), respectively. We study perturbations of a self-adjoint operator T with discrete spectrum such that the number of its points on any unit-length interval of the real axis is uniformly bounded. We prove that if ‖ n ‖ ≤ const, where ϕ n is an orthonormal system of eigenvectors of the operator T, then the system of root vectors of the perturbed operator T + B forms a basis with parentheses. We also prove that the eigenvalue-counting functions of T and T + B satisfy the relation |n(r, T) − n(r, T + B)| ≤ const.  相似文献

We consider a variation of a classical Turán-type extremal problem as follows: Determine the smallest even integer σ(Kr,r,n) such that every n-term graphic sequence π = (d1,d2,...,dn) with term sum σ(π) = d1 + d2 + ... + dn ≥ σ(Kr,r,n) is potentially Kr,r-graphic, where Kr,r is an r × r complete bipartite graph, i.e. π has a realization G containing Kr,r as its subgraph. In this paper, the values σ(Kr,r,n) for even r and n ≥ 4r2 - r - 6 and for odd r and n ≥ 4r2 + 3r - 8 are determined.  相似文献

If T (or T*) is an algebraically wF(p, r, q) operator with p, r > 0 and q ≥ 1 acting in an infinite-dimensional separable Hilbert space, then we prove that Weyl’s theorem holds for f(T) for any f ∈ Hol(σ(T)), where Hol(σ(T)) is the set of all analytic functions in an open neighborhood of σ(T). Moreover, if T* is a wF(p, r, q) operator with p, r > 0 and q ≥ 1, then the a-Weyl’s theorem holds for f(T). In addition, if T (or T*) is an algebraically wF(p, r, q) operator with p, r > 0 and q ≥ 1, then we establish the spectral mapping theorems for the Weyl spectrum and for the essential approximate point spectrum of T for any f ∈ Hol(σ(T)), respectively. Finally, we examine the stability of Weyl’s theorem and the a-Weyl’s theorem under commutative perturbations by finite-rank operators.  相似文献

LetX be a complex Banach space and letT be a bounded linear operator onX. Denote by σ p (T) the point spectrum ofT and by the unit circle. We investigate how the growth of the sequence ‖T n ‖ is influenced by the size of the set (T) and by the geometry of the spaceX. We also prove analogous results forC 0-semigroups(T t )t≥0. Let T be a bounded linear operator on a complex Hilbert space H. In this paper we introduce a new class denoted by l-*-A, of operators satisfying T*|T2|T≥ T*|T*|2T, and we prove the basic properties of these operators. Using these results, we also prove that if T or T* ∈l-*-A, then w(f(T)) = f(w(T)), σea(f(T)) = f(σea(T)) for every f C H(σ(T)), where g(σ(T)) denotes the set of all analytic functions on an open neighborhood of σ(T).  相似文献

For suitable bounded operator semigroups (e tA ) t≥0 in a Banach space, we characterize the estimate ‖Ae tA ‖≤c/F(t) for large t, where F is a function satisfying a sublinear growth condition. The characterizations are by holomorphy estimates on the semigroup, and by estimates on powers of the resolvent. We give similar characterizations of the difference estimate ‖T n T n+1‖≤c/F(n) for a power-bounded linear operator T, when F(n) grows faster than n 1/2 for large n.  相似文献
