A measuring system including an oversized cavity resonator operating in the TE01 mode for the determination of the complex permittivity - j of low-loss liquids at frequencies of about 36 GHz is described. While is obtained by wavelength measurements in the filled and the empty resonator, is determined from the variation of the Q factor of the filled resonator with the length of the dielectric sample. The Q factors of values of about 2·104 to 105 can be measured automatically by means of a desk calculator which controls the frequency and collects the digitized values of the detector output voltage. By means of the calculator, the Q factors of the resonator are determined by fitting analytical (Lorentzian) resonance curves to the measurement data. and the Q factor for zero sample length are calculated according to Göttmann's methods.  相似文献

Single crystal high resistivity (11,000 ohm-cm) boron doped silicon was found to exhibit lowest absorption loss at room temperature (25 C) in the entire millimeter wave region. At 140 GHz it's loss tangent value is as low as 40 microradians. The study of dielectric properties of silicon as a function of resistivity reveals that the low frequency free carrier absorption present in all silicon (and other semiconductors) vanishes with increasing resistivity. It is then possible to use such a silicon in substrate applications in microwave integrated circuitry. The unique broadband dispersive Fourier transform spectroscopic technique was utilized for these measurement.This program was supported by the U.S. Department of Energy (Contract No. W-7405-Eng-48) through Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.  相似文献

An efficient compact-2D finite-difference time-domain method is presented for the numerical analysis of guided modes in waveguides that may include negative dielectric permittivity, negative magnetic permeability and negative refractive index materials. Both complex variable and real variable methods are given. The method is demonstrated for the analysis of channel-plasmon-polariton guided modes in triangular groves on a metal surface. The presented method can be used for a range of waveguide problems that were previously unsolvable analytically, due to complex geometries, or numerically, due to computational requirements of conventional three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain methods. A three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain algorithm that also allows analysis in the presence of bound or free electric and equivalent magnetic charges is presented and an example negative refraction demonstrates the method.  相似文献

A quasi-optical method for measuring the complex permittivity and permeability of materials at millimeter and submillimeter wavelengths is proposed. Refractive-index and optical-absorption spectra of Bi-substituted yttrium iron garnet films, epitaxially grown by liquid-phase epitaxy, have been measured in the spectral regime 0.26 m1.9 m by thin-film interference for 0.52 m and by ellipsometry for0.52 m. The Y3–x–y Bi x Pb y Fe5–z Pt z O12 films contain bismuth in the range Ox 1.42, lead in the range 0.01 y0.08 and platinum in the range 0.005<=z0.03. There is satisfactory coincidence between the results from ellipsometry and thin-film interference in the overlapping wavelength region. The materials investigated are the same as reported earlier from this laboratory in ter mof their magnetic and magnetooptic properties.  相似文献

The thermal contribution to the nonlinear refractive index of air at 1.064mum was measured with a high-finesse Fabry-Perot cavity and a 500-mW cw laser beam. At room temperature and pressure, the nonlinear refractive-index coefficient of air was found to be n(2)((th))=(-1.9+/-0.2)x10 (-14) cm(2)/W for a beam waist radius of 0.23 mm and was found to be independent of the relative humidity. The thermal nonlinearities of N(2) , O(2) , and CO(2) were also measured, and it was found that the dominant contribution to air is its O(2) content.  相似文献

This paper describes the new microwave bridge system with dielectric antennas of very small transverse dimensions (smaller than 10 mm) convenient for measurements of the complex dielectric permittivity of slab materials. The system enables (i) to measure by nondestructive way the complex permittivity of dielectric and semiconducting samples the dimensions of which are comparable or smaller than the wavelength of probing microwaves, (ii) to detect the material inhomogeneities. This system was verified at the frequency 37·5 GHz. In this paper measurements of the resistivity of the Si samples are given. Results obtained are in good agreement with the theory.  相似文献

This paper describes the simulation of the effects of scintillation on digital transmissions. The scintillation is modelled by atmospheric turbulent cells whose parameters are determined by comparison with measured scintillation events. The effects of the cells crossing the communication link on the amplitude of the received signal are calculated as well as the transfer function. A complete communication link is simulated and the BER is calculated for different frequencies. The model can be used up to 100 GHz but this paper is focused on frequencies presently used in satellite communications.  相似文献

Space radiation dosimetry measurements have been made on board the Space Shuttle STS-65 in the Second International Microgravity Laboratory (IML-2). In these measurements, three kinds of detectors were used; one is a newly developed active detector telescope called “Real-time Radiation Monitoring Device (RRMD)” utilizing silicon semi-conductor detectors and others are conventional detectors of thermoluminescence dosimeters (TLDs) and CR-39 plastic track detectors. Using the RRMD detector, the first attempt of real-time monitoring of space radiation has been achieved successfully for a continuous period of 251.3 h, giving the temporal variations of LET distribution, particle count rates, and rates of absorbed dose and dose equivalent. The RRMD results indicate that a clear enhancement of the number of trapped particles is seen at the South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA) without clear enhancement of dose equivalent, while some daily periodic enhancements of dose equivalent due to high LET particles are seen at the lower geomagnetic cutoff regions for galactic cosmic ray particles (GCRs). Therefore, the main contribution to dose equivalent is seen to be due to GCRs in this low altitude mission (300 km). Also, the dose equivalent rates obtained by TLDs and CR-39 ranged from 146.9 to 165.2 μSv/day and the average quality factors from 1.45 to 1.57 depending on the locations and directions of detectors inside the Space-lab at this highly protected orbit for space radiation with a small inclination (28.5°) and a low altitude (300 km). The LET distributions obtained by two different detectors, RRMD and CR-39, are in good agreement in the region of 15–200 keV/mm and difference of these distributions in the regions of LET < 15 keV/mm and LET > 200 keV/mm can be explained by considering characteristics of CR-39 etched track formation especially for the low LET tracks.  相似文献

Static dielectric permittivity, density, viscosity, and refractive index of anisole (AN), methanol (MeOH), 1-propanol (1-PrOH) and binary mixtures of AN with MeOH and 1-PrOH at nine different concentrations, were measured at 303, 313 and 323 K temperatures. Measured properties of pure AN, MeOH and 1-PrOH were compared with literature values and they were found in good agreement. The investigation of binary mixtures showed a systematic change in static dielectric permittivity, density and viscosity with change in concentration of anisole in the mixture. Measured properties of liquid samples were used to calculate Kirkwood correlation factor and excess parameters such as excess dielectric permittivity, excess molar volume and excess viscosity. Determined parameters have been interpreted in terms of molecular interaction among the molecular species of the binary mixtures.  相似文献

Zero-point fluctuations of surface plasmon modes near the interface between a metal and a nonlinear dielectric are shown to produce a thin layer of shifted fluctuating dielectric constant near the interface. The shift of the dielectric constant in this layer may be sufficiently large to produce multiple metastable states of the surface plasmon vacuum.  相似文献

A new method is proposed to measure the ratio of the refractive index function of soot particles E(m) at the two fixed wavelengths: 532 and 1064 nm. Using a non-intrusive, in-situ laser based technique, the ratio E(m,1064 nm)/E(m,532 nm) can be determined by comparing laser induced incandescence (LII) intensities at 532 and 1064 nm excitation wavelengths. The method consists of selecting laser energies that insure the equality of the LII signals in the low fluence regime under given conditions. Such equality is consistent with the fact that the soot particle will have reached the same temperature independently of the laser wavelength, i.e. the soot particle has absorbed the same energy. As the absorbed energy is proportional to the laser irradiance times E(m), the measurement of the laser energies required to insure perfect concordance of the LII intensities (spatially and temporally) serves to deduce the ratio E(m,1064 nm)/E(m,532 nm). The method is demonstrated in an acetylene/air flame, validated against extinction measurements performed by cavity ring-down spectroscopy (CRDS) by using laser radiations at 532 nm and 1064 nm and finally applied to different flame conditions.
