This study presents the Shannon and Renyi information entropy for both position and momentum space and the Fisher information for the position-dependent mass Schrödinger equation with the Frost-Musulin potential. The analysis of the quantum mechanical probability has been obtained via the Fisher information. The variance information of this potential is equally computed. This controls both the chemical properties and physical properties of some of the molecular systems. We have observed the behaviour of the Shannon entropy. Renyi entropy, Fisher information and variance with the quantum number n respectively.

In this paper, we discuss the properties of lazy quantum walks. Our analysis shows that the lazy quantum walks have O(t n) order of the n-th moment of the corresponding probability distribution, which is the same as that for normal quantum walks. The lazy quantum walk with a discrete Fourier transform(DFT) coin operator has a similar probability distribution concentrated interval to that of the normal Hadamard quantum walk. Most importantly, we introduce the concepts of occupancy number and occupancy rate to measure the extent to which the walk has a(relatively) high probability at every position in its range. We conclude that the lazy quantum walks have a higher occupancy rate than other walks such as normal quantum walks, classical walks, and lazy classical walks.

In this paper, we study a three-state quantum walk with a phase defect at a designated position. The coin operator is a parametrization of the eigenvectors of the Grover matrix. We numerically investigate the properties of the proposed model via the position probability distribution, the position standard deviation, and the time-averaged probability at the designated position. It is shown that the localization effect can be governed by the phase defect’s position and strength, coin parameter and initial state.

Quantum walk (QW), which is considered as the quantum counterpart of the classical random walk (CRW), is actually the quantum extension of CRW from the single-coin interpretation. The sequential unitary evolution engenders correlation between different steps in QW and leads to a non-binomial position distribution. In this paper, we propose an alternative quantum extension of CRW from the ensemble interpretation, named quantum random walk (QRW), where the walker has many unrelated coins, modeled as two-level systems, initially prepared in the same state. We calculate the walker's position distribution in QRW for different initial coin states with the coin operator chosen as Hadamard matrix. In one-dimensional case, the walker's position is the asymmetric binomial distribution. We further demonstrate that in QRW, coherence leads the walker to perform directional movement. For an initially decoherenced coin state, the walker's position distribution is exactly the same as that of CRW. Moreover, we study QRW in 2D lattice, where the coherence plays a more diversified role in the walker's position distribution.

The nonlocalized case of the spatial density probability of the two-dimensional Grover walk can be obtained using only a two-dimensional coin space and a quantum walk in alternate directions. This significantly reduces the resources necessary for its feasible experimental realization. We present a formal proof of this correspondence and analyze the behavior of the coin-position entanglement as well as the x-y spatial entanglement in our scheme with respect to the Grover one. Our scheme allows us to entangle the two orthogonal directions of the walk more efficiently.

In the literature, there are numerous studies of one-dimensional discrete-time quantum walks (DTQWs) using a moving shift operator. However, there is no exact solution for the limiting probability distributions of DTQWs on cycles using a general coin or swapping shift operator. In this paper, we derive exact solutions for the limiting probability distribution of quantum walks using a general coin and swapping shift operator on cycles for the first time. Based on the exact solutions, we show how to generate symmetric quantum walks and determine the condition under which a symmetric quantum walk appears. Our results suggest that choosing various coin and initial state parameters can achieve a symmetric quantum walk. By defining a quantity to measure the variation of symmetry, deviation and mixing time of symmetric quantum walks are also investigated.

We investigate the probability distribution of the quantum walk under coherence non-generating channels. We definea model called generalized classical walk with memory. Under certain conditions, generalized classical random walk withmemory can degrade into classical random walk and classical random walk with memory. Based on its various spreadingspeed, the model may be a useful tool for building algorithms. Furthermore, the model may be useful for measuring thequantumness of quantum walk. The probability distributions of quantum walks are generalized classical random walkswith memory under a class of coherence non-generating channels. Therefore, we can simulate classical random walkand classical random walk with memory by coherence non-generating channels. Also, we find that for another class ofcoherence non-generating channels, the probability distributions are influenced by the coherence in the initial state of thecoin. Nevertheless, the influence degrades as the number of steps increases. Our results could be helpful to explore therelationship between coherence and quantum walk.

The properties of the two-dimensional quantum walk with point, line, and circle disorders in phase are reported.Localization is observed in the two-dimensional quantum walk with certain phase disorder and specific initial coin states. We give an explanation of the localization behavior via the localized stationary states of the unitary operator of the walker+coin system and the overlap between the initial state of the whole system and the localized stationary states.

In this paper, we study discrete-time quantum walks on one-dimensional lattices. We find that the coherent dynamics depends on the initial states and coin parameters. For infinite size of lattices, we derive an explicit expression for the return probability, which shows scaling behavior P(0, t) ~ t -1 and does not depends on the initial states of the walk. In the long-time limit, the probability distribution shows various patterns, depending on the initial states, coin parameters and the lattice size. The time-averaged probability mixes to the limiting probability distribution in linear time, i.e., the mixing time M ε is a linear function of N (size of the lattices) for large values of thresholds ϵ. Finally, we introduce another kind of quantum walk on infinite or even-numbered size of lattices, and show that by the method of mathematical induction, the walk is equivalent to the traditional quantum walk with symmetrical initial state and coin parameter.

We investigate the evolution of Shannon entropy in quantum ratchet effect for a delta-kicked model, where a particle with initial momentum zero is periodically kicked by an asymmetric potential. It is shown that the evolution of Shannon entropy of the particle can remarkably reflect whether quantum resonance emerges and gives rise to ratchet current or not. Furthermore, for different kinds of quantum resonances, low-order or high-order quantum resonances, the evolutions of the entropy are quite different.

We look at two possible routes to classical behavior for the discrete quantum random walk on the integers: decoherence in the quantum "coin" which drives the walk, or the use of higher-dimensional (or multiple) coins to dilute the effects of interference. We use the position variance as an indicator of classical behavior and find analytical expressions for this in the long-time limit; we see that the multicoin walk retains the "quantum" quadratic growth of the variance except in the limit of a new coin for every step, while the walk with decoherence exhibits "classical" linear growth of the variance even for weak decoherence.

We consider the discrete time unitary dynamics given by a quantum walk on the lattice \mathbb Zd{\mathbb {Z}^d} performed by a quantum particle with internal degree of freedom, called coin state, according to the following iterated rule: a unitary update of the coin state takes place, followed by a shift on the lattice, conditioned on the coin state of the particle. We study the large time behavior of the quantum mechanical probability distribution of the position observable in \mathbb Zd{\mathbb {Z}^d} when the sequence of unitary updates is given by an i.i.d. sequence of random matrices. When averaged over the randomness, this distribution is shown to display a drift proportional to the time and its centered counterpart is shown to display a diffusive behavior with a diffusion matrix we compute. A moderate deviation principle is also proven to hold for the averaged distribution and the limit of the suitably rescaled corresponding characteristic function is shown to satisfy a diffusion equation. A generalization to unitary updates distributed according to a Markov process is also provided.

We analyze the recurrence probability (Pólya number) for d-dimensional unbiased quantum walks. A sufficient condition for a quantum walk to be recurrent is derived. As a by-product we find a simple criterion for localization of quantum walks. In contrast with classical walks, where the Pólya number is characteristic for the given dimension, the recurrence probability of a quantum walk depends in general on the topology of the walk, choice of the coin and the initial state. This allows us to change the character of the quantum walk from recurrent to transient by altering the initial state.

We study one-dimensional quantum walk with four internal degrees of freedom resulted from two entangled qubits. We will demonstrate that the entanglement between the qubits and its corresponding coin operator enable one to steer the walker's state from a classical to standard quantum-walk behavior, and a novel one. Additionally, we report on self-trapped behavior and perfect transfer with highest velocity for the walker. We also show that symmetry of probability density distribution, the most probable place to find the walker and evolution of the entropy are subject to initial entanglement between the qubits. In fact, we confirm that if the two qubits are separable (zero entanglement), entropy becomes minimum whereas its maximization happens if the two qubits are initially maximally entangled. We will make contrast between cases where the entangled qubits are affected by coin operator identically or else, and show considerably different deviation in walker's behavior and its properties.

In this paper, we investigate the effects of particle–particle interaction and static force on the propagation of probability distribution in two-particle discrete-time quantum walk, where the interaction and static force are expressed as a collision phase and a linear position-dependent phase, respectively. It is found that the interaction can lead to boson repelling and fermion binding. The static force also induces Bloch oscillation and results in a continuous transition from boson bunching to fermion anti-bunching. The interplays of particle–particle interaction, quantum interference, and Bloch oscillation provide a versatile framework to study and simulate many-particle physics via quantum walks.

We investigate the global chirality distribution of the quantum walk on the line when decoherence is introduced either through simultaneous measurements of the chirality and particle position, or as a result of broken links. The first mechanism drives the system towards a classical diffusive behavior. This is used to build new quantum games, similar to the spin-flip game. The second mechanism involves two different possibilities: (a) All the quantum walk links have the same probability of being broken. (b) Only the quantum walk links on a half-line are affected by random breakage. In case (a) the decoherence drives the system to a classical Markov process, whose master equation is equivalent to the dynamical equation of the quantum density matrix. This is not the case in (b) where the asymptotic global chirality distribution unexpectedly maintains some dependence with the initial condition. Explicit analytical equations are obtained for all cases.
