Euclidean non-Abelian gauge theories are quantized on a (finite) lattice using functional integration. From the general from of the 2m-point Schwinger function for the fundamental fermions fields, dynamical consequences for composite meson and fermion fields are investigated. The Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka rule is derived and an analogy to non-relativistic potentials for the quark-antiquark and the 3-quark system is exhibited.  相似文献

At infinite gauge coupling the gauge fields in the fundamental lattice SU(N) Higgs model can be integrated out exactly. In the resulting effective theory of the radial Higgs field we derive a string -like correlation function that represents the leading behavior of the W two-point function at small β. For large N we then compute the W-mass and the Higgs mass. These analytical results are qualitatively similar to what has been found in Monte Carlo simulations of the SU(2) model.  相似文献

We demonstrate how to create artificial external non-Abelian gauge potentials acting on cold atoms in optical lattices. The method employs atoms with k internal states, and laser assisted state sensitive tunneling, described by unitary k x k matrices. The single-particle dynamics in the case of intense U2 vector potentials lead to a generalized Hofstadter butterfly spectrum which shows a complex mothlike structure. We discuss the possibility to realize non-Abelian interferometry (Aharonov-Bohm effect) and to study many-body dynamics of ultracold matter in external lattice gauge fields.  相似文献

We discuss the Higgs sector of the supersymmetric standard model extended by a gauge singlet for the range of parameters, which is compatible with universal soft supersymmetry breaking terms at the GUT scale. We present results for the masses, couplings and decay properties of the lightest Higgs bosons, in particular with regard to Higgs boson searches at LEP. The prospects differ significantly from the ones within the MSSM.  相似文献

We consider Susskind fermions on ad-dimensional lattice interacting withSU(n) gauge fields at finite temperature in the strong coupling limit. We demonstrate that the baryon terms can be treated perturbatively. Their effect on the Wilson loop parameter is calculated.  相似文献

The phase structure of a gauge-scalar (Higgs) field system is studied by Monte Carlo simulations without freezing the radial mode of the scalar field. We consider Z2 lattice gauge theory coupled to a Higgs field which is approximated by a discrete real one. Most of our analysis is done on a 44 lattice. We find that the phase diagram of our model consists of three distinct phases, Higgs and confined regions being divided by a phase boundary. This phase structure forms a contrast with that presented in the model with a fixed-length Higgs field.  相似文献

Phase structure of the SU(2) lattice gauge Higgs theory is investigated by the Monte Carlo method and by an approximate calculation of an effective potential. Higgs fields are considered in the fundamental representation, and the radial mode of Higgs fields is not frozen. Two different radial measures for a radially varied Higgs field are used.Phase diagrams of the theory are determined, and a strong dependence on the choice of radial measure of scalar fields is manifested.  相似文献

As a first step towards a duality transformation for theSU(2) lattice gauge theory in 3 dimensions, the integration over all gauge variant variables is performed explicitly after introducing gauge invariant auxiliary variables. The resulting new Hamiltonian is complex and involves a sum over closed loops. Each of these loops is confined to an elementary cube of a dual lattice. Like in a previous investigation for theO(4) symmetric Heisenberg ferromagnet Rühl's boson representation is used to derive the result.  相似文献

We study phase transitions in the lattice version of the abelian Higgs model, a model which can exhibit both spontaneous symmetry breaking and confinement. When the Higgs charge is the basic U(1) unit, we find that the Higgs and confinement regions are not separated by a phase transition and form a single homogenous phase which we call the total screening phase. The model does not undergo a symmetry restoring phase transition at finite temperature.If the Higgs charge is some multiple of the basic unit the model follows the conventional wisdom: there are 3 phases (normal, Higgs and confinement) at zero temperature, two of which disappear above some critical point. We apply the lessons learned from the lattice Higgs model to understand the behavior of the weak interactions at high temperature.In a long appendix we give an intuitive physical picture for the Polyakov-Susskind quark liberating phase transition and show that it is related to the Hagedorn spectrum of a confining model. We end with a collection of effective field theory approximations to various lattice theories.  相似文献

The effect of an external electromagnetic field on the magnitude of the anomalous magnetic moment (AMM) of a lepton in the Weinberg model (1967) is investigated using the method of analytic continuation, previously applied to problems in quantum electrodynamics with an external field. We show that a sequence of dipole states of finite energy introduced by Fredenhagen and Marcu is chargeless upon removal of one of the charges to spatial infinity in certain subsets of the phase diagram of the U(1)-Higgs lattice gauge theory. It is also explicitly seen how this phenomenon is related to the existence of exponential clustering (i.e., of a mass gap).
