In the present work, three-dimensional turbulent non-premixed oblique slot-jet flames impinging at a wall were investigated using direct numerical simulation (DNS). Two cases are considered with the Damköhler number (Da) of case A being twice that of case B. A 17 species and 73-step mechanism for methane combustion was employed in the simulations. It was found that flame extinction in case B is more prominent compared to case A. Reignition in the lower branch of combustion for case A occurs when the scalar dissipation rate relaxes, while no reignition occurs in the lower branch for case B due to excessive scalar dissipation rate. A method was proposed to identify the flame quenching edges of turbulent non-premixed flames in wall-bounded flows based on the intersections of mixture fraction and OH mass fraction iso-surfaces. The flame/wall interactions were examined in terms of the quenching distance and the wall heat flux along the quenching edges. There is essentially no flame/wall interaction in case B due to the extinction caused by excessive turbulent mixing. In contrast, significant interactions between flames and the wall are observed in case A. The quenching distance is found to be negatively correlated with wall heat flux as previously reported in turbulent premixed flames. The influence of chemical reactions and wall on flow topologies was identified. The FS/U and FC/U topologies are found near flame edges, and the NNN/U topology appears when reignition occurs. The vortex-dominant topologies, FC/U and FS/S, play an increasingly important role as the jet turbulence develops.  相似文献

The Large Eddy Simulation (LES) / Conditional Moment Closure (CMC) model with detailed chemistry is used for modelling spark ignition and flame propagation in a turbulent methane jet in ambient air. Two centerline and one off-axis ignition locations are simulated. We focus on predicting the flame kernel formation, flame edge propagation and stabilization. The current LES/CMC computations capture the three stages reasonably well compared to available experimental data. Regarding the formation of flame kernel, it is found that the convection dominates the propagation of its downstream edge. The simulated initial downstream and radial flame propagation compare well with OH-PLIF images from the experiment. Additionally, when the spark is deposited at off-centerline locations, the flame first propagates downstream and then back upstream from the other side of the stoichiometric iso-surface. At the leading edge location, the chemical source term is larger than others in magnitude, indicating its role in the flame propagation. The time evolution of flame edge position and the final lift-off height are compared with measurements and generally good agreement is observed. The conditional quantities at the stabilization point reflect a balance between chemistry and micro-mixing. This investigation, which focused on model validation for various stages of spark ignition of a turbulent lifted jet flame through comparison with measurements, demonstrates that turbulent edge flame propagation in non-premixed systems can be reasonably well captured by LES/CMC.  相似文献

This work shows experiments and simulations of the fired operation of a spark ignition engine with port-fuelled injection. The test rig considered is an optically accessible single cylinder engine specifically designed at TU Darmstadt for the detailed investigation of in-cylinder processes and model validation. The engine was operated under lean conditions using iso-octane as a substitute for gasoline. Experiments have been conducted to provide a sound database of the combustion process. A planar flame imaging technique has been applied within the swirl- and tumble-planes to provide statistical information on the combustion process to complement a pressure-based comparison between simulation and experiments. This data is then analysed and used to assess the large eddy simulation performed within this work. For the simulation, the engine code KIVA has been extended by the dynamically thickened flame model combined with chemistry reduction by means of pressure dependent tabulation. Sixty cycles have been simulated to perform a statistical evaluation. Based on a detailed comparison with the experimental data, a systematic study has been conducted to obtain insight into the most crucial modelling uncertainties.  相似文献

This paper presents a joint numerical and experimental study of the ignition process and flame structures in a gasoline partially premixed combustion (PPC) engine. The numerical simulation is based on a five-dimension Flamelet-Generated Manifold (5D-FGM) tabulation approach and large eddy simulation (LES). The spray and combustion process in an optical PPC engine fueled with a primary reference fuel (70% iso-octane, 30% n-heptane by volume) are investigated using the combustion model along with laser diagnostic experiments. Different combustion modes, as well as the dominant chemical species and elementary reactions involved in the PPC engines, are identified and visualized using Chemical Explosive Mode Analysis (CEMA). The results from the LES-FGM model agree well with the experiments regarding the onset of ignition, peak heat release rate and in-cylinder pressure. The LES-FGM model performs even better than a finite-rate chemistry model that integrates the full-set of chemical kinetic mechanism in the simulation, given that the FGM model is computationally more efficient. The results show that the ignition mode plays a dominant role in the entire combustion process. The diffusion flame mode is identified in a thin layer between the ultra fuel-lean unburned mixture and the hot burned gas region that contains combustion intermediates such as CO. The diffusion flame mode contributes to a maximum of 27% of the total heat release in the later stage of combustion, and it becomes vital for the oxidation of relatively fuel-lean mixtures.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to analyse, by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), the morphology of enamel and dentin/adhesive interfaces in cavities prepared by air-abrasion at different working distances. Thirty sound third human molars were selected and, on both their buccal and lingual surfaces, class V cavities were prepared by air-abrasion, at 2-, 4-, 6-, 8- and 10-mm working distances, or high-speed bur (control group). After preparation, all cavities were etched with 35% phosphoric acid gel and restored with Single Bond/Filtek Z-250. Buccal and lingual surfaces were separated and restorations sectioned in a buccolingual direction, providing two sections of each cavity, which were analysed by scanning electron microscopy. It was observed that the distances of 6 and 8 mm promoted more homogeneous dentin/adhesive interfaces, with tags formation, and more uniform for enamel, which were similar to the control group. It may be concluded that the air-abrasion working distance can influence the morphology of enamel and dentin/adhesive interfaces, and the intermediate distances provided better adhesive interfaces.  相似文献

This work investigates the structure of a diffusion flame in terms of lengthscales, scalar dissipation, and flame orientation by using large eddy simulation. This has been performed for a turbulent, non-premixed, piloted methane/air jet flame (Flame D) at a Reynolds-number of 22,400. A steady flamelet model, which was represented by artificial neural networks, yields species mass fractions, density, and viscosity as a function of the mixture fraction. This will be shown to suffice to simulate such flames. To allow to examine scalar dissipation, a grid of 1.97 × 106 nodes was applied that resolves more than 75% of the turbulent kinetic energy. The accuracy of the results is assessed by varying the grid-resolution and by comparison to experimental data by Barlow, Frank, Karpetis, Schneider (Sandia, Darmstadt), and others. The numerical procedure solves the filtered, incompressible transport equations for mass, momentum, and mixture fraction. For subgrid closure, an eddy viscosity/diffusivity approach is applied, relying on the dynamic Germano model. Artificial turbulent inflow velocities were generated to feature proper one- and two-point statistics. The results obtained for both the one- and two-point statistics were found in good agreement to the experimental data. The PDF of the flame orientation shows the tilting of the flame fronts towards the centerline. Finally, the steady flamelet approach was found to be sufficient for this type of flame unless slowly reacting species are of interest.  相似文献

The asymptotic method was used to obtain analytic equations for the elements of the 3 × 3 interaction matrix between an N2 molecule in the ground electronic state X 1 g + and F and Cl atoms in the 2 P j states at interparticle distances that determine halogen atom electronic relaxation processes. Spin-orbit, quadrupolequadrupole, dispersion, and exchange interactions were taken into account.  相似文献

We analyze the diffraction of the picture obtained by the subtraction of two in-line holograms recorded in two planes at distances of z and z+Deltaz apart from the object plane. Our theoretical analysis reveals that the reconstructed field at the object plane is approximately equal to the Laplacian second-order differentiation of the object wave in transverse direction when Deltaz is much smaller than the distance z, that is, the reconstructed image presents a high quality of edge enhancement. We further investigate the dependence of the edge-enhancement quality on the longitudinal differential distance Deltaz and find that the reconstructed images have the sharpest edge-enhancement and high signal-to-noise ratio at the same time only when the value of Deltaz/z lies between 0.7% and 0.9% under our experimental condition. We also construct a criteria function, named the entropy of the image, to automatically focus the edge-enhanced image and demonstrate its adaptability in experiments.  相似文献

The interactions between cool flames and flames with repetitive extinction and ignition (FREI) of stoichiometric n-heptane/air mixture were studied using a micro flow reactor with a controlled temperature profile from 373 to 1300 K. Two different flame dynamics with and without cool flames were observed in reactors with inner diameters dinner of 1 and 2 mm. Cool flames and FREI are spatially separated at dinner= 1 mm, whereas interactions between cool flames and FREI are observed at dinner= 2 mm. At dinner= 1 mm, the brightness intensity from cool flames depends on the inlet velocity (uinlet). Approximately above uinlet= 10 cm/s, the brightness intensity from cool flames decreases with increasing inlet velocity, despite a large amount of mixture input. This is because before low temperature ignition occurs under higher inlet velocity conditions, the mixture archives temperature where negative temperature coefficient is dominant. Reaction front propagation speed of FREI decreases monotonically due to heat loss because the extinction points of FREI are located in higher temperatures than the cool flame region. At dinner= 2 mm, the acceleration of the reaction front in the cool flame region is confirmed experimentally, as predicted in our previous two-dimensional numerical simulations. Additionally, the instantaneous reaction front speed after autoignition is analyzed at dinner= 1 mm. The instantaneous reaction front speed decreases as the time from extinction to ignition tex_ig becomes longer because a moderate mixing zone of reactants and products is formed.  相似文献

A turbulent piloted jet flame subject to a rapid velocity pulse in its fuel jet inflow is proposed as a new benchmark case for the study of turbulent combustion models. In this work, we perform modelling studies of this turbulent pulsed jet flame and focus on the predictions of its flow and turbulence fields. An advanced modelling strategy combining the large eddy simulation (LES) and the probability density function (PDF) methods is employed to model the turbulent pulsed jet flame. Characteristics of the velocity measurements are analysed to produce a time-dependent inflow condition that can be fed into the simulations. The effect of the uncertainty in the inflow turbulence intensity is investigated and is found to be very small. A method of specifying the inflow turbulence boundary condition for the simulations of the pulsed jet flame is assessed. The strategies for validating LES of statistically transient flames are discussed, and a new framework is developed consisting of different averaging strategies and a bootstrap method for constructing confidence intervals. Parametric studies are performed to examine the sensitivity of the predictions of the flow and turbulence fields to model and numerical parameters. A direct comparison of the predicted and measured time series of the axial velocity demonstrates a satisfactory prediction of the flow and turbulence fields of the pulsed jet flame by the employed modelling methods.  相似文献

Diesel spray and combustion in a constant-volume engine cylinder was simulated by a large eddy simulation (LES) approach coupling with a multicomponent vapourisation (MCV) modelling. The simulation focused on the inclusion of the interaction between fuel spray and gas-phase turbulence flow at the sub-grid scale. The LES was based on the dynamic structure sub-grid model, and an additional source term was added to the filtered momentum equation to account for the effect of drop motion on the gas-phase turbulence. The multicomponent drop vapourisation modelling was based on the continuous thermodynamics approach using a gamma distribution to describe the complex diesel fuel composition and was capable of predicting a more complex drop vapourisation process. The effect of gas-phase turbulence flow on the fuel drop vapourisation process was evaluated through the solution of the gas-phase moments of the distribution in the present LES framework. A non-evaporative spray in a constant-volume engine cylinder was first simulated to examine the behaviours of LES, in comparison with a Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) simulation based on the RNG k? model. More realistic diesel spray structures and improved agreement on liquid penetration length with the corresponding experimental data were predicted by the LES, using a grid resolution close to that of RANS. A more comprehensive simulation of diesel spray and combustion in cylindrical combustor was also performed. Predicted distributions of soot particles were compared to the experimental image, and improved agreement with the experimental data was also observed by using the present LES and MCV models. Consequently, results of the present models proved that improved overall performance of the fuel spray simulation can be achieved by the LES without a significant increase in the computational load compared to the RANS.

This work examines the flow and mixing in selected non-premixed cases of the Sydney Swirl Flame series by Large Eddy Simulation. A mixture fraction approach with a steady flamelet model, based on a detailed chemical mechanism, is applied to determine the chemical state in the flame. The isothermal case N29S054 is simulated to provide insights into the flow field, the resolution requirements for the simulation, and to allow for various measures of validation and verification. For the reactive case, the high-speed hydrogen/methane flame SMH1 is chosen for its similarity to the non-swirling Sydney flames and its good stability. In experiments carried out previously at Sydney University, vortex breakdown has been observed and in the isothermal case, this is clearly predicted by the LES. However, no vortex breakdown is observed in the simulations of flame SMH1, which necessitates further studies on this and similar flames to investigate this phenomenon. Studies of the low-velocity flames SM1 and SM2 show that reactive vortex breakdown can be predicted successfully. This difficulty in the prediction of vortex breakdown is another indication that the Sydney Swirl Flame series, especially at high velocities of the central jet, is an interesting and challenging test-case for the development of combustion LES.  相似文献

The nonperturbative contribution to the one-gluon exchange produces a universal linear term in the static potential at small distances ΔV=6N c α s σr/2π. Its role in the resolution of long-standing discrepancies in the fine splitting of heavy quarkonia and improving agreement with lattice data for static potentials is examined, and implications for operator product expansion (OPE) violating terms in other processes are discussed.
