The problem investigated is the unsteady problem of the internal waves generated in a two-layer flow by a certain periodic perturbation which leads to small deviations from the basic flow. A method of constructing an approximate solution uniformly valid throughout the region of variation of the variables and the parameters of the problem is indicated. It is confirmed that for large times and near-resonance parameters the motion of the fluid is described by the mixed problem for a cubic Schrödinger equation. A study is made of the propagation of disturbances in the neighborhood of a well in the case of a linear elastic regime for a flow law with limiting gradient, and also for a nonlinear elastic regime for different forms of the flow law. A study is made of the steady axisymmetric flow of a viscous fluid between two cones rotating in opposite ways round a common axis. It is shown that as in the case of the flow of fluid swirled by plane disks rotating at different speeds [1], there can be two regimes of motion in the system: a Batchelor regime with quasirigid rotation of the fluid outside the boundary layers [2] and a Stewartson regime in which the azimuthal flow is concentrated only in the boundary layers [3]. In the Stewartson regime, a boundary layer analogous to that in the single disk problem (see, for example, [4–6]) forms in the region of each cone far from the apex. For the flows outside the boundary layers, simple expressions are found which make it possible to obtain a conception of the circulation of the fluid as a whole. A general law of nonlinear anisotropic flow through a porous medium is proposed. A corresponding equation for the pressure of the fluid is obtained in velocity hodograph variables. The flow of a free jet of polymer solution or melt between a nozzle supplying fluid at a constant flow rate and a takeoff device in the form of a uniformly rotating roll is studied. The exit and takeoff points (the latter being the point at which the jet touches the roll surface) are on the same level, while the jet itself lies in a vertical plane. Within the framework of the linear theory, a study was made of the hydrodynamic stability of the Couette-Poiseuille flow of a viscous conducting fluid in a transverse magnetic field. The total spectrum of small perturbations was studied for characteristic Hartmann numbers. A classification of perturbations was made in accordance with the behavior of their phase velocity with large wave numbers. Dependences of the critical Reynolds number and of the critical wave number on a parameter characterizing the relationship between the parts of the flow, determined by the motion of plates and by the pressure gradient, were obtained. The character of the asymptotic dependences at large Hartmann numbers was clarified. The nonlinear problem of boundary layer instability under the influence of a plane vortex is investigated for high Reynolds numbers. The vortex occupies the entire thickness of the boundary layer and has a longitudinal dimension of the order of the Tollmien-Schlichting wavelength. The initial vortex is rapidly swept away by the flow, inducing a Stokes layer near the surface of the plate. Expanding, this layer reaches the dimensions of the viscous sublayer of free interaction theory, where wave packet generation takes place. In the case in question a feature of the nonlinear stage of development of the disturbances is the formation of a concentrated vortex, which arises in the Stokes layer and grows rapidly, whereas the wave packet propagated ahead of it remains linear. This article considers a plant-parallel supersonic flow, with a shock wave terminating within the flow; the shock wave is regarded as a distortion. The two-dimensional problem of the form of a free surface of an ideal incompressible fluid during steady flow from a rectangular channel through a thin slot with simultaneous uniform delivery of fluid through the side walls is examined. Forces of gravity and surface tension are taken into account. The nonlinear problem of the simultaneous determination of the free surface and velocity field of the fluid is solved by the iteration method. Convergence of the iterations to the solution of the problem for small values of the parameters is investigated. The solution of the linearized problem is obtained in a closed form for a small depth of the discharge and small width of the channel, which is compared with the solution of the problem in a complete formulation. A method of calculating the plane turbulent layer behind a step interacting with a free potential flow of incompressible fluid is developed. The method includes consideration of the initial boundary layer and injection (or suction) in the isobaric bottom region. Friction on the wall behind the step is neglected, which corresponds to symmetric quasisteady flow behind the straight edge of a plate. The inviscid flow is represented by the Keldysh-Sedov integral equations; the flow in the wake with a one-parameter velocity profile is represented by three first-order differential equations—the equations of momentum for the wake and motion along its axis and the equation of interaction (through the displacement thickness) of the viscous flow with the external potential flow. The turbulent friction in the wake is given, accurate to the single empirical constant, by the Prandtl equation. The different flow regions — on the plate behind the step, the isobaric bottom region, and the wake region — are joined with the aid of the quasi-one-dimensional momentum equation for viscous flow. The momentum equation for the flow as a whole serves as the closure condition. The obtained integrodifferential system of equations is approximated by a system of nonlinear finite-difference equations, whose solution is obtained on a computer by minimization of the sum of the squares of the discrepancies. The problem of plane steady ideal heavy fluid flow bounded by an impermeable polygonal section, a curvilinear arc section, and a finite section of free surface is investigated in an exact nonlinear formulation. Hydrodynamic singularities may exist in the stream. A large class of captation problems of jet theory reduces to studying this kind of flow. The unique solvability of the problem under investigation is proved for sufficiently large Froude numbers and small arc curvature. A method of solution is given and an example is computed. Such problems have been solved earlier by numerical methods [1–3]. Evaporation (or condensation) of a gas is said to be intense when the normal component of the velocity of the gas in the Knudsen layer has a value of the order of the thermal velocity of a molecule, cT=(2kT/m)1/2. In this case the distribution function of the molecules with respect to their velocities in the Knudsen layer differs from the equilibrium (Maxwellian) value by its own magnitude. As a result of this, over the thickness of the Knudsen layer the macroparameters also vary by their own magnitudes. So in order to obtain the correct boundary conditions for the Euler gas dynamic equations, it is necessary to solve the nonlinear Boltzmann equation in the Knudsen layer. The problem of obtaining such boundary conditions for the case of a plane surface was considered in [1–11]. In the present study this problem is solved for a two-dimensional periodic surface in the case when the dimensions of the inhomogeneities are of the order of the mean free path of the molecules and the inhomogeneities have a rectangular shape. A solution is found to the problem of symmetric cavitation flow over a wedge by an ideal incompressible fluid (in accordance with Efros's scheme [1]) in the presence of a point source in the flow or on the wedge. The cyclic bidirectional process of isothermal flow of a binary singlephase compressible gas mixture in a porous medium accompanied by diffusion-dispersion mass transfer is considered. On the basis of the equations of multiphase multicomponent isothermal flow a system of two nonlinear partial differential equations with nonlinear boundary conditions corresponding to a given constant gas injection or takeoff rate is obtained and investigated.
