Three low-cost adsorbents (purified raw attapulgite (A-ATP), high-temperature-calcined attapulgite (T-ATP), and hydrothermal loading of MgO (MgO-ATP)) were prepared as adsorbents for the removal of Cd(II) and Pb(II). By evaluating the effect of the initial solution pH, contact time, initial solution concentration, temperature and coexistence of metal ions on Cd(II) and Pb(II) adsorption, the experimental results showed that MgO-ATP was successfully prepared by hydrothermal reaction and calcination as well as appearing to be a promising excellent adsorbent. At an initial pH of 5.0, A-ATP, T-ATP and MgO-ATP reached maximum adsorption amounts of 43.5, 53.9 and 127.6 mg/g for Pb(II) and 10.9, 11.2, and 25.3 mg/g for Cd(II) at 298 K, respectively. The Cd(II) adsorption on A-ATP was fitted by the Freundlich model, while the adsorption of Pb(II) and Cd(II) on T-ATP and MgO-ATP as well as Pb(II) adsorption on A-ATP agreed with the Langmuir model. All kinetic experimental data favored pseudo second-order model. The calculated thermodynamic parameters suggested that Pb(II) adsorption onto MgO-ATP was spontaneous and exothermic. When considering foreign metal ions, the three adsorbents all presented preferential adsorption for Pb (II). Chemical adsorption had a high contribution to the removal of Cd(II) and Pb(II) by modified attapulgite. In summary, the adsorption was greatly enhanced by the hydrothermal loading of MgO. It aimed to provide insights into the MgO-ATP, which could be able to efficiently remove Cd(II) and Pb(II) and serve as an economic and promising adsorbent for heavy metal-contaminated environmental remediation.  相似文献

The biosorption data of Cd(II), Cr(III), and Cr(VI) by saltbush leaves biomass were fit on the Freundlich and Langmuir adsorption isotherms at 297 K. The Cd(II) and Cr(III) solutions were adjusted to pH 5.0 and the Cr(VI) solution was adjusted to pH 2.0. The correlation coefficient values indicated that the data fit better the Freundlich model. The maximal capacities (K(F)) were found to be 5.79 x 10(-2), 3.25 x 10(-2), and 1.14 x 10(-2) mol/g for Cr(III), Cd(II), and Cr(VI), respectively. Similar results were obtained using the Langmuir and the Dubinin-Radushkevick equations. Thermodynamic parameters calculated from the Khan and Singh equation and from the q(e) vs C(e) plot show that the equilibrium constants for the biosorption of the metals follow the same order of the maximal capacities. The negative Gibbs free energy values obtained for Cd(II) and Cr(III) indicated that these ions were biosorbed spontaneously. The mean free energy values calculated from the Dubinin-Radushkevick equation (10.78, 9.45, and 9.05 for Cr(III), Cr(VI), and Cd(II), respectively) suggest that the binding of Cd(II), Cr(III), and Cr(VI) by saltbush leaves biomass occurs through an ionic exchange mechanism.  相似文献

The present study reports the competitive adsorptive removal of cadmium (Cd(II)) and zinc (Zn(II)) ions from binary systems using rice husk ash (RHA), a waste obtained from the rice husk-fired furnaces, as an adsorbent. The initial pH (pH0) affects significantly the capacity of RHA for adsorbing the metallic ions in the aqueous solution. The pH0  6.0 is found to be the optimum for the removal of Cd(II) and Zn(II) ions by RHA. The single ion equilibrium adsorption from the binary solution is better represented by the non-competitive Redlich–Peterson (R–P) and the Freundlich models than by Langmuir model in the initial metal concentration range of 10–100 mg/l. The adsorption of Zn(II) ion is more than that of Cd(II) ion, and this trend is in agreement with the single-component adsorption data. The equilibrium metal removal decreases with increasing concentrations of the other metal ion and the combined effect of Cd(II) and Zn(II) ions on RHA is generally found to be antagonistic. Non-modified Langmuir, modified Langmuir, extended-Langmuir, extended-Freundlich, Sheindorf–Rebuhn–Sheintuch (SRS), non-modified R–P and modified R–P adsorption models were tested to find the most appropriate competitive adsorption isotherm for the binary adsorption of Cd(II) and Zn(II) ions onto RHA by minimizing the Marquardt's percent standard deviation (MPSD) error function. The extended-Freundlich model satisfactorily represents the adsorption equilibrium data of Cd(II) and Zn(II) ions onto RHA.  相似文献

It is challenging work to develop a low-cost, efficient, and environmentally friendly Cr(VI) adsorbent for waste water treatment. In this paper, we used hemicelluloses from chemical fiber factory waste as the raw material, and prepared two kinds of carbon materials by the green hydrothermal method as adsorbent for Cr(VI). The results showed that hemicelluloses hydrothermally treated with citric acid (HTC) presented spherical shapes, and hemicelluloses hydrothermally treated with ammonia solution (HTC-NH2) provided spongy structures. The adsorption capacity of the samples can be obtained by the Langmuir model, and the adsorption kinetics could be described by the pseudo-second-order model at pH 1.0. The maximum adsorption capacity of HTC-NH2 in the Langmuir model is 74.60 mg/g, much higher than that of HTC (61.25 mg/g). The green hydrothermal treatment of biomass with ammonia solution will provide a simple and feasible way to prepare adsorbent for Cr(VI) in waste water treatment.  相似文献

In this study, the performance of modified adsorbents obtained from activated carbon for the adsorption of thorium(IV) ions from aqueous media was investigated. The analytical and spectroscopic methods such as FT-IR, BET, SEM and UV–Vis were used to examine the properties of the modified materials. According to the analysis results, the both adsorbents had large surface areas after modification. Then, temperature, pH, mixing time and solution concentration parameters were observed to determine optimum thorium adsorption conditions on modified materials. The obtained results from the experiments were applied different three kinetic models and adsorption isotherms and thermodynamic parameters were calculated and then all of the results were interpreted. The adsorption process for both adsorption systems was observed to be compatible with the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The adsorption equilibrium data were best described by the Langmuir model for modified adsorbent with KMnO4 and by the Freundlich model for modified adsorbent with NaOH. Furthermore, the calculated thermodynamic parameters (ΔG°, ΔH° and ΔS°) showed that the both adsorption processes were endothermic and spontaneous. The data show that modified adsorbents can be used as influential and low-cost adsorbents to remove thorium ion. Modified new adsorbents were highly selective for thorium ion in competitive adsorption studies.

The adsorption of Cr(VI) and Ni(II) using ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid‐modified diatomite waste (EDTA‐DW) as an adsorbent in single and binary systems was investigated. The EDTA‐DW was characterized using various analytical techniques, including Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, Brunauer–Emmett–Teller measurements, X‐ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and energy‐dispersive spectrometry. The adsorption experiment was conducted by varying pH, adsorbent dosage, initial concentration and temperature. In the single system, the sorption data for Cr(VI) fitted the Langmuir isotherm, but the Ni(II) adsorption data fitted well the Freundlich isotherm. The maximum sorption capacity of Cr(VI) and Ni(II) was 2.9 mg g?1 at pH = 3 and 3.64 mg g?1 at pH = 8, respectively. The kinetic data for both Cr(VI) and Ni(II) followed well the pseudo‐second‐order kinetic model in single and binary systems. Meanwhile, the extended Langmuir and extended Freundlich multicomponent isotherm models were found to fit the competitive adsorption data for Cr(VI) and Ni(II). In addition, in the binary system, the existence of Ni(II) hindered the adsorption of Cr(VI), but the presence of Cr(VI) enhanced the removal of Ni(II). This study provides some realistic and valid data about the usage of modified diatomite waste for the removal of metal ions.  相似文献

A Cr‐based metal–organic framework, namely, MIL‐101(Cr), was modified with amino (NH2–) and urea (UR2–) groups, and the materials were evaluated as adsorbents for glyphosate, and a comparison with commercial activated carbon was also discussed. The effects of the adsorption factors, such as adsorbent concentration, adsorption time, pH and ionic strength were mainly investigated. The results showed that a pseudo‐second‐order rate equation described the adsorption kinetics mechanisms well, while the Langmuir model and the Freundlich model fitted different adsorption isotherms, respectively. Among the adsorbents we studied, NH2‐MIL‐101(Cr) showed the maximum adsorbing capacity, which is 64.25 mg/g when pH = 3.0, while UR2‐MIL‐101(Cr) did not reach the best adsorption performance due to the steric hindrance. The work opens up a new way for the modification of metal–organic frameworks for adsorption process.  相似文献

The present study was undertaken to develop a novel adsorbent for heavy metal ions, and this paper presents the synthesis and characterization of a composite material-silica gel microspheres encapsulated by salicyclic acid functionalized polystyrene (SG-PS-azo-SA) with a core-shell structure. SG-PS-azo-SA was used to investigate the adsorption of Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Fe(III), Hg(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), Cr(VI), Pd(II), Cu(II), Ag(I), and Au(III) from aqueous solutions. The results revealed that SG-PS-azo-SA has better adsorption capacity for Cu(II), Ag(I) and Au(III). Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models were applied to analyze the experimental data, the best interpretation for the experimental data was given by the Langmuir isotherm equation with the maximum adsorption capacity for Cu(II), Ag(I), and Au(III) at 1.288 mmol g−1, 1.850 mmol g−1 and 1.613 mmol gt-1, respectively. Thus, silica gel encapsulated by salicyclic acid functionalized polystyrene (SG-PS-azo-SA) is favorable and useful for the removal of Cu(II), Ag(I) and Au(III) metal ions.  相似文献

In the present study, we attempted to synthesize a novel sorbent from the starch modified montmorillonite for the removal of Pb(II), Cd(II), and Ni(II) ions from aqueous solutions. Structure and properties of the adsorbent were characterized by Fourier-transformed infrared(FT-IR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Field emission scanning electron microscopic (FE-SEM) techniques. Batch experiments were confirmed through the effect of different conditions including pH, contact time, initial metal concentration and adsorbent dose. Specifically, the optimum value of adsorbent dose was achieved as 20 g/l for the removal of almost metal ions. The adsorption data was fitted with the optimum pH value as 5 for all experiments. The contact time at which the uptake of maximum metal adsorption was observed within 45 min for Pb(II), 90 min for Cd(II), and 60 min for Ni(II). In addition, it was revealed in our study that the equilibrium data obeyed the Langmuir model, and the adsorption kinetic followed a pseudo second-order rate model. Obtained results were noticeable for a modified phyllosilicate adsorbent, and with such a simple and low-cost modification for montmorillonite, the potential of this material as an economical and effective adsorbent for the removal of metal ions from aqueous solution was considerably elevated.  相似文献

Il palm leaf powder (OPLP), an agricultural solid waste was used as adsorbent for the removal of copper (II) ions after modification with an anionic surfactant, sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS), CH3(CH2)11C6H4SO3Na. The copper (II) ions adsorption is highly dependent on pH and maximum removal was observed at pH 6, above which copper (II) started to precipitate. The equilibrium adsorption data were fitted into the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. The Freundlich isotherm model fitted well to data with 0.989 regression coefficient (R2). The kinetics of the adsorption of copper (II) ions onto the surfactant-modified OPLP was best described by a pseudo-second-order model. Comparison of this SDBS-modified-OPLP to previously investigated adsorbents showed comparably good result, offering this material as a promising adsorbent for the treatment of waste waters containing lower concentrations of copper (II) ions.  相似文献

This study introduces a sensitive and simple method for selective adsorption of hexavalent chromium, Cr(VI), from water samples prior to its determination by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES). The method utilized activated carbon modified with tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane (AC-TRIS) as an adsorbent. Surface properties of the new chemically modified AC-TRIS phase were confirmed by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. Seven metal ions, including Co(II), Cu(II), Ni(II), Pb(II), Cr(III), Cr(VI), and Fe(III) were evaluated and determined at different pH values (1.0–8.0), except for Fe(III) at pH values (1.0–4.0). Based on the results of the effect of pH on adsorption of these metal ions on AC-TRIS, Cr(VI) was selected for the study of other parameters controlling its maximum uptake on AC-TRIS under batch conditions and at the optimum pH value 1.0. The maximum static adsorption capacity of Cr(VI) onto the AC-TRIS was found to be 43.30 mg g?1 at this pH and after 1 hour contact time. The adsorption data of Cr(VI) were modeled using both Langmuir and Freundlich classical adsorption isotherms. Results demonstrated that the adsorption of Cr(VI) onto AC-TRIS followed a pseudo second-order kinetic model. In addition, the efficiency of this methodology was confirmed by applying it to real environmental water samples.  相似文献

Novel SiO2-pyrazole (SiO2-PYZ) nanocomposite was introduced for the elimination of Zn(II) and Cr(III) from oil reservoir water. Characterization analysis of prepared SiO2-PYZ nanocomposite was investigated using SEM, FTIR, TGA, XRD, TEM, and BET. Studying the effects and optimization of the parameters such as retention time, pH, initial Cr(III) and Zn(II) ions concentrations, adsorbent dosage, and temperature were examined. For kinetics investigation, the pseudo-second-order (PSO) model matches the adsorption process effectively under different operating conditions. After applying two other isotherm models (Langmuir and Freundlich), the experimental data was adequately equipped with Langmuir, R2 = 1. The thermodynamic results pointed that the adsorption of Zn(II) and Cr(III) ions was spontaneous, endothermic, and physisorption reaction. At pH 12, the influence of more than one ion, such as Ca(II) and Na(I), was checked, and the results revealed that this conjugate substance was highly selective to Cr(III). After washing with water in multiple cycles, the adsorbed material was regenerated with 0.1 M HCl and subsequently reused without deterioration in its case cavities. Interestingly, SiO2-PYZ was highly effective against sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) in the petroleum field.  相似文献

A novel composite adsorbent, silica aerogel activated carbon was synthesized by sol-gel process at ambient pressure drying method. The composite was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and Nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherms (BET).In the present study, the mentioned adsorbent was used moderately for the removal of cadmium ions from aqueous solutions and was compared with two other adsorbents of cadmium, activated carbon and silica aerogel. The experiments of Cd adsorption by adsorbents were performed at different initial ion concentrations, pH of the solution, adsorption temperature, adsorbent dosage and contact time. Moreover, the optimum pH for the adsorption was found to be 6.0 with the corresponding adsorbent dosage level of 0.1 g at 60 °C temperature. Subsequently, the equilibrium was achieved for Cd with 120 min of contact time.Consequently, the results show that using this composite adsorbent could remove more than 60% of Cd under optimum experimental conditions. Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm model was applied to analyze the data, in which the adsorption equilibrium data were correlated well with the Freundlich isotherm model and the equilibrium adsorption capacity (qe) was found to be 0.384 mg/g in the 3 mg/L solution of cadmium.  相似文献

Chitosan biopolymer chemically modified with the complexation agent 2[-bis-(pyridylmethyl)aminomethyl]-4-methyl-6-formylphenol (BPMAMF) was employed to study the kinetics and the equilibrium adsorption of Cu(II), Cd(II), and Ni(II) metal ions as functions of the pH solution. The maximum adsorption of Cu(II) was found at pH 6.0, while the Cd(II) and Ni(II) maximum adsorption occurred in acidic media, at pH 2.0 and 3.0, respectively. The kinetics was evaluated utilizing the pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order equation models and the equilibrium data were analyzed by Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms models. The adsorption kinetics follows the mechanism of the pseudo-second-order equation for all studied systems and this mechanism suggests that the adsorption rate of metal ions by CHS-BPMAMF depends on the number of ions on the adsorbent surface, as well as on their number at equilibrium. The best interpretation for the equilibrium data was given by the Langmuir isotherm and the maximum adsorption capacities were 109 mg g-1 for Cu(II), 38.5 mg g-1 for Cd(II), and 9.6 mg g-1 for Ni(II). The obtained results show that chitosan modified with BPMAMF ligand presented higher adsorption capacity for Cu(II) in all studied pH ranges.  相似文献

Poly(ethyleneglycol dimethacrylate-co-acrylamide) (poly(EDGMA-co-AAm)) copolymer beads have been prepared for use in the separation Pb(II), Hg(II), and Cd(II), metal ions in aqueous solution by a batch equilibration technique. Adsorption capacity were increased with pH for Pb(II), Cd(II) and Hg(II) and then reached almost plateau value around 6.0. The high initial rate of metal ions uptake (<10 min) suggests that the adsorption occurs mainly at the bead surface. The metal uptake results show that poly(EGDMA-co-AAm) can be used for the adsorption of the following metals in the indicated order: Pb(II) > Cd(II) > Hg(II) expressed on a molar basis. However, when the uptake was expressed in terms of the amount of metal removed from solution was as follows: Pb(II) > Hg(II) > Cd(II). The beads still showed preference toward Pb(II) when this metal was in a mixture with Hg(II) and Cd(II). A linearized form of the Freundlich and the Langmuir isotherm model fits the experimental equilibrium concentration data of Hg(II) and Cd(II) better than isotherm type model of Pb(II). The recovery of the metal ions after adsorption and the regeneration of the adsorbent can be carried out by treatment of the loaded beads with either 0.5 M NaCl, or 1 M HNO3.  相似文献

Summary Synthetic Sorel's cement [3Mg(OH)2 . MgCl2 . 8H2O], is used as a new adsorbent material for removal of chromium(VI) ion from wastewater effluents. Parameters including contact time, adsorbent dosage and pH are examined and optimized. The equilibrium data are fitted very well to the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms rather than linear. The adsorption isotherm indicates that the monolayer coverage is 21.4 mg Cr(VI) ion per g of Sorel's cement. The adsorbent is considered as a better replacement technology for removal of Cr(VI) ion from aqueous solutions due to its low cost, good efficiency, fast kinetics, and simple preparation. It offers remarkable efficiency for Cr(VI) removal from wastewater compared with many other natural and synthetic adsorbents.  相似文献

The removal of heavy metals, such as Cu(II), Cd(II) and Cr(III) from aqueous solution was studied using Chorfa silt material (Mascara, Algeria). The main constituents of silt sediment are quartz, calcite and mixture of clays. The experimental data were described using Freundlich, Langmuir, Dubinin–Radushkevich (D–R) and Langmuir–Freundlich models. The adsorbed amounts of chromium and copper ions were very high (95% and 94% of the total concentration of the metal ions), whereas cadmium ion was adsorbed in smaller (55%) amounts. The Langmuir–Freundlich isotherm model was the best to describe the experimental data. The maximum sorption capacity was found to be 26.30, 11.76 and 0.35 mg/g for Cr3+, Cu2+ and Cd2+, respectively. The results of mean sorption energy, E (kJ/mol) calculated from D–R equation, confirmed that the adsorption of copper, chromium and cadmium on silt is physical in nature.  相似文献

Chitosan-iron nanowires in porous anodic alumina (PAA) have been successfully prepared under ambient conditions as an adsorbent. The adsorbent was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and N2-BET surface area. The results showed that PAA can disperse and protect Fe0 nanorods from oxidation. The adsorption characteristics of trace Cr(VI) onto adsorbent have been examined at different initial Cr(VI) concentrations with pH 5. Batch adsorption studies show that the removal percentage of adsorbent for the removal of trace Cr(VI) is strongly dependent on the initial Cr(VI) concentrations. Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models were used to analyze the experiment data. The adsorption of trace Cr(VI) by adsorbent is well modeled by the Langmuir isotherm and the maximum adsorption capacity of Cr(VI) is calculated as 123.95 mg/g which is very closed to the experiment results. Intraparticle diffusion study shows that the intraparticle diffusion of adsorbent is not the sole rate-controlling step. The negative value of Gibbs free energy change, ΔGo, indicated that the process of Cr(VI) onto adsorbent was spontaneous. This work has demonstrated that chitosan-iron nanowires in porous anodic alumina as an adsorbent has promising potential for heavy metal removal at trace level.  相似文献

In the present study, adsorption of Ni(II) and Pb(II) from aqueous solution was investigated using activated carbon synthesized with industrial wastewater sludge. The synthesized adsorbent was analyzed using nitrogen adsorption–desorption and Fourier transfer infrared (FTIR) techniques. Batch adsorption mode was used to evaluate the effect of solution pH, contact time, adsorbent dose, initial metal ion concentration, and temperature on the adsorption capacity of the synthesized adsorbent. The kinetic data were analyzed using different kinetic models. The pseudo-second-order equation gave the best fit to the experimental data for both metal ions. The equilibrium isotherm data were analyzed using the Langmuir, Freundlich, and Dubinin–Radushkevich (D–R) isotherm models. The results showed that the data obtained for the Ni(II) and Pb(II) adsorption are in good agreement with the Langmuir model. The Langmuir mono-layer maximum adsorption capacities for Ni(II) and Pb(II) ions were estimated to be 74.06 and 88.76 mg g?1 at 25°C, respectively. In addition, the thermodynamic studies proved that the adsorption process of both metals could be considered endothermic.  相似文献
