The possibility of accelerating free electrons in a vacuum gap between closely spaced dielectric materials is explored. Plane waves impinging symmetrically on the gap from either side at oblique incidence produce an evanescent wave with net electric field along the direction of propagation. Near the critical angle, the evanescent wave propagates at the vacuum speed of light. A theoretical development and numerical simulations show that free electrons in the gap can be accelerated and accumulate energy indefinitely. This approach lies outside the purview of the Lawson-Woodward theorem, which does not apply in the vicinity of a medium. Damage thresholds of materials restrict the light intensity to far below that achievable by current high-power lasers. This limits the particle energy that might be achieved from an accelerator based on this approach.  相似文献

Four generalisations of results appearing in a previous paper, referred to as I, are here produced. (1) Formulas for the field strengths of the evanescent wave generated inside a vacuum sandwiched between two identical refracting media propagating symmetrical incident plane waves; the classical exponential damping factor being then replaced by hyperbolic cosines or sines (according to the field components), an extremely close approximation to a plane tachyon wave is thus obtained; (2) Compact formulas for the case where the evanescent wave is generated by a superposition of plane incident waves with propagation vectors k parallel to a common incidence plane; (3) Compact formulas for the other typical case where the dispersion on k is parallel to the reflecting plane; (4) Formulas for refraction and total reflection of a photon with a non-zero rest mass.We take the opportunity of this paper to review briefly various articles that had escaped us, where a transverse energy flux inside Fresnel's evanescent wave was discussed, and also some recent papers dealing with quantisation of the evanescent wave or related topics.  相似文献

Plane waves are solutions of the visco-elastic wave equation. Their wave vector can be real for homogeneous plane waves or complex for inhomogeneous and evanescent plane waves. Although interesting from a theoretical point of view, complex wave vectors normally only emerge naturally when propagation or scattering is studied of sound under the appearance of damping effects. Because of the particular behavior of inhomogeneous and evanescent waves and their estimated efficiency for surface wave generation, bounded beams, experimentally mimicking their infinite counterparts similar to (wide) Gaussian beams imitating infinite harmonic plane waves, are of special interest in this report. The study describes the behavior of bounded inhomogeneous and bounded evanescent waves in terms of amplitude and phase distribution as well as energy flow direction. The outcome is of importance to the applicability of bounded inhomogeneous ultrasonic waves for nondestructive testing.  相似文献

利用二氧化碳激光器加热法,将普通单模光纤拉制成微纳光纤,用湿法转移石墨烯覆盖在微纳光纤上构成复合波导,不同波长的光通过耦合器进入复合波导,以倏逝波的形式与石墨烯相互作用,开展石墨烯优先吸收特性的研究。当短波作为泵浦光时,随着入射强度的增长,测得输出端长波信号光光谱的变化,获得了约3.5 dB的调制深度,0.62 dB·mW-1的调制效率。当长波作为泵浦光并改变入射光强时,在输出端测得作为信号光的短波透过率变化约1.9%。实验结果表明,随着任意波长泵浦光入射光强的增长,复合波导对其表现出优先吸收的特性。实验还测试了长波和短波分别经过复合波导后透过率随输入功率的变化,得出长波的透过率增加速度比短波更快,并从能带和倏逝波两方面作出了对应的理论分析。  相似文献

It is theoretically shown that by superimposing diffraction-free solutions of the Helmholtz equation, one can construct localized diffraction-free beams that pass through predetermined points on subwavelength distances. These beams are based on the phenomenon of superoscillations and thus do not contain any evanescent waves. The effect of an aperture and noise is examined in specific examples where truncated beams with λ/3 subwavelength features can propagate into the far field.  相似文献

We study focusing of two and three-dimensional evanescent vector waves, with a particular emphasis on identifying suitable intensity structures for applications in optical data storage. For two-dimensional evanescent waves large transverse spatial wave vectors result in purely circularly polarized evanescent states. We suggest that these may have applications in all-optical data storage through the inverse Faraday effect. On the other hand, for three-dimensional evanescent waves longitudinally polarized modes are observed to give the most tightly focused spot, and this may be utilized to confine light behind a solid immersion lens.  相似文献

The generating mechanism of the energy-stream loops (ESLs) for the evanescent waves around the interfaces of a left-handed material (LHM) slab has been investigated with a finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. The simulations have shown that these ESLs originate from standing waves, attributed to the intervention of counter-propagating evanescent waves. Large numbers of ESLs can appear because of the numerous values of wave vectors ky. The larger ESLs die out more quickly than the smaller ones in time after the source is switched off, the ESLs shrink continuously with increasing delay, and the oscillated distributions of the evanescent waves between the surfaces can also be validated. It is greatly helpful for the further comprehension on energy fluxes of evanescent waves in the LHM slab.  相似文献

The bubbles involved in sonochemistry and other applications of cavitation oscillate inertially. A correct estimation of the wave attenuation in such bubbly media requires a realistic estimation of the power dissipated by the oscillation of each bubble, by thermal diffusion in the gas and viscous friction in the liquid. Both quantities and calculated numerically for a single inertial bubble driven at 20 kHz, and are found to be several orders of magnitude larger than the linear prediction. Viscous dissipation is found to be the predominant cause of energy loss for bubbles small enough. Then, the classical nonlinear Caflish equations describing the propagation of acoustic waves in a bubbly liquid are recast and simplified conveniently. The main harmonic part of the sound field is found to fulfill a nonlinear Helmholtz equation, where the imaginary part of the squared wave number is directly correlated with the energy lost by a single bubble. For low acoustic driving, linear theory is recovered, but for larger drivings, namely above the Blake threshold, the attenuation coefficient is found to be more than 3 orders of magnitude larger then the linear prediction. A huge attenuation of the wave is thus expected in regions where inertial bubbles are present, which is confirmed by numerical simulations of the nonlinear Helmholtz equation in a 1D standing wave configuration. The expected strong attenuation is not only observed but furthermore, the examination of the phase between the pressure field and its gradient clearly demonstrates that a traveling wave appears in the medium.  相似文献

分析了二维各向同性均匀随机介质中柱面波的传播特性及局域化现象.用随机泛函理论,在频域内将随机介电起伏展开成柱坐标系下的Wiener积分式,将波场表示为内外行柱面波的线性和,求解二维Helmholtz波动方程,得到随机介电起伏对柱面波幅度与相位调制的解析表达.由柱面波能量的空间分布验证了波的局域化现象,并求解局域化长度.二维随机介质中平面波按柱面波展开的波转换方程与非随机介质中的情形有相似的表达,但具有随机介电起伏对幅度和相位的调制,并给出数值模拟结果.  相似文献

当用波长为λ的单色平行光垂直照射到光栅常数d<λ的亚波长周期结构衍射物时,会产生隐失波。由于快速衰减,这种亚波长周期物是不能成像的。但是,通过对亚波长周期结构物进行适当的编码后可得到均匀波,使这种携带了隐失波信息的均匀波通过经特别设计的光学系统并被放大到CCD所能识别的像素大小后,再进行必要的解码以滤掉编码波,即可得到原亚波长周期结构衍射物的像,最终达到超分辨的目的。基于这种新颖的成像技术,用常规仪器就实现了对亚波长周期结构物的成像。在运用光子学方法对实验和成像过程进行较为详尽的理论分析的同时,对编码器、解码器的位置以及它们相对物光栅的取向给出了设计性研究,对滤波器的选择给予了必要的说明。实验结果验证了该设计理论的正确性。  相似文献

A novel Whispering--Gallery--Mode (WGM) fibre laser, emitting linearly polarised three-colour light, is demonstrated by pumping and gain coupling with evanescent waves. The pump light is longitudinally coupled into a bare optical fibre immersed in a dye solution of lower refractive index. The dye molecules around the bare fibre are excited by the evanescent waves of pump light when they propagate along the fibre in a total internal reflection. When the pump beam within the fibre is a meridian beam, the WGM lasing emission from the fibre laser is a linearly polarised transverse electric wave, while it is a mixed wave of the linearly polarised transverse electric and magnetic waves if the pump beam is a skew beam within the fibre. Because the excited molecules are located within the evanescent field of WGM, a good spatial overlap between the dye gain and the evanescent field leads to a high pumping efficiency and a longer gain distance along the fibre. Once the bare fibre is inserted into three glass capillaries filled with Rhodamine 6G, 610 and 640 dye solutions, respectively, WGM laser oscillations at the wavelengths of 567--575, 605--614 and 656--666~nm occur simultaneously, and a linearly polarised three-colour lasing emission is achieved in a single optical fibre.  相似文献

We propose a method for exciting a surface polariton wave by nonlinear mixing of three evanescent waves. The nonlinear polarization and phase matching conditions are analyzed for diatomic cubic crystals and a numerical example is given for GaP showing that this scheme is possible. Furthermore, by consideration of the energy balance in the crystal, the gain coefficient for the surface wave and the intensity of the wave coupled to the vacuum are also calculated.  相似文献

理论研究了声波在非均匀波导中的空间聚焦问题,利用多模态导纳法构建波导内任意位置处声压与入射声压在模态域的映射关系,计算使声波聚焦于空间某位置时的最佳入射波,并画出了相应的聚焦声场.研究了三种非均匀情况:水平变截面波导、含散射体波导以及声速垂直变化波导.结果表明,当输入最佳入射波时,在非均匀波导中可以产生良好的单点或多点声聚焦效果,声波的聚焦过程充分地利用了波导结构及介质非均匀性对声波的散射作用.  相似文献

从简谐光波满足的亥姆霍兹方程出发,将由格林定理得到的介质分界面上的积分方程转化为以表面上的光波及其导数为未知量的线性方程组,并对其进行数值求解,实现了光场的数值计算。然后将这一方法应用于亚波长尺度的小孔衍射的光波以及自仿射分形表面产生的随机光场及其在近场区域范围内的传播的计算。在随机表面产生的光场计算中.提出了类比推导夫琅禾费面上散斑场自相关函数的方法产生随机表面,以及计算其导数的傅里叶变换方法。对光场的计算结果表明,在近场范围内,光场随离开表面的距离的增加而迅速变化,其传播特性完全不同于光场在远场范围内的传播特性。  相似文献

针对理论上推导轴锥镜的衍射光场分布解析式较为困难,且用菲涅耳衍射理论分析时存在近轴近似及不能适用于近场衍射光场分析的问题,采用了严格遵从标量衍射亥姆霍兹方程的角谱衍射波前重建方法,对轴锥镜在单色和准单色高斯光波照射下的横向和轴向衍射光强分布特性,以及在单色均匀平面光波照射下的轴向衍射光强分布进行了数值计算和分析。结果表明,轴锥镜后单色光衍射光强分布在几何光束重叠的菱形区域内为近似无衍射贝塞尔光强分布,轴上光强沿光轴方向呈振荡变化,轴上光强分布规律与入射光波的垂轴横向光强分布有关;入射光的准单色性使得贝塞尔衍射条纹对比度略下降、轴上光强沿光轴方向振荡程度减小,但分布规律与单色光一致。  相似文献

The evanescent field propagating in waveguides was used to evaluate the profile and growth rate of laser photodeposited a-Se. A pulsed KrF excimer laser was used for deposition. The differential-evanescent light leaking image, was used to analyze the nanostructures in the deposited zones. The relation between the emerging light intensity of the evanescent wave and the optical light intensity propagating in the waveguide was connected to an effective range of the evanescent wave leaking power into the deposited material. The technique provides the nanometric profiles of the ultra-thin photodeposited structures.  相似文献

For a nonlinear medium, a given incident laser beam may produce different transmitted light waves. This phenomenon (the so-called optical bistability) corresponds to multiple solutions of the boundary value problems of the nonlinear Helmholtz equation. Optical bistability can be useful in the design of optical switches. Devices that display this behavior could potentially play a major role in the development of optical communication systems and computing. In this article we present experimental results concerning the optical bistability in photorefractive BaTiO3:Fe crystal. Two laser beams were used to interact with the photorefractive crystal which resulted in the bistability of the intensity of transmitted wave. This was achieved without the application of any optical resonator. High contrast optical bistability is found experimentally in the pump-ratio dependence of the output intensity.  相似文献

The scattering of plane evanescent waves by a cylinder is studied. The Green function for the Helmholtz equation for two dielectrics with flat interface is found and applied for the numerical calculation of the scattered field by the boundary elements method. The Green function keeps close track of scattering, including multiple reflections. The result may be applicable for the data analysis in near-field optical microscopy.  相似文献

The electrical scalar potential satisfies the Helmholtz equation for time-harmonic waves and Aharonov-Bohm showed that the electromagnetic potentials have physical reality. For these reasons, the scalar potential represents scalar wave propagation in space. The gradient of the scalar wave leads to the electric field intensity, but it does not create the magnetic field. The criteria for the radiation of the scalar waves are studied on various linear antennas. The radiation integrals of the antennas are evaluated asymptotically by taking into account the edge effects. The radiation diagrams are plotted numerically and the phase velocities of the scalar waves are investigated in the near field.  相似文献
