The excitation spectra and the structural properties of highly hydroxylated C(60)(OH)(x) fullerenes (so-called fullerenols) are analyzed by comparing optical absorption experiments on dilute fullerenol-water solutions with semiempirical and density functional theory electronic structure calculations. The optical spectrum of fullerenol molecules with 24-28 OH attached to the carbon surface is characterized by the existence of broad bands with reduced intensities near the ultraviolet region (below approximately 500 nm) together with a complete absence of optical transitions in the visible part of the spectra, contrasting with the intense absorption observed in C(60) solutions. Our theoretical calculations of the absorption spectra, performed within the framework of the semiempirical Zerner intermediate neglect of diatomic differential overlap method [Reviews in Computational Chemistry II, edited by K. B. Lipkowitz and D. B. Boyd (VCH, Weinheim, 1991), Chap. 8, pp. 313-316] for various gas-phase-like C(60)(OH)(26) isomers, reveal that the excitation spectra of fullerenol molecules strongly depend on the degree of surface functionalization, the precise distribution of the OH groups on the carbon structure, and the presence of impurities in the samples. Interestingly, we have surprisingly found that low energy atomic configurations are obtained when the OH groups segregate on the C(60) surface forming molecular domains of different sizes. This patchy behavior for the hydroxyl molecules on the carbon surface leads in general to the formation of fullerene compounds with closed electronic shells, large highest occupied molecular orbital-lowest unoccupied molecular orbital energy gaps, and existence of an excitation spectrum that accounts for the main qualitative features observed in the experimental data.  相似文献

An oxidative radical photoaddition of mono N-substituted piperazines to [60]fullerene was systematically investigated. Reactions of C60 with piperazines bearing bulky electron-withdrawing groups (2-pyridyl, 2-pyrimidinyl) were found to be the most selective and yielded C60(amine)4O as major products along with small amounts of C60(amine)2. In contrast, interactions of fullerene with N-methylpiperazine and N-(tert-butoxycarbonyl)piperazine were found to have low selectivity due to different side reactions. Tetraaminofullerene derivative C60(N-(2-pyridyl)piperazine)4O was found to react readily with organic and inorganic acids to yield highly water-soluble salts (solubility approximately 150 mg mL(-1)). In contrast, C60(N-(2-pyrimidinyl)piperazine)4O undergoes hydrolysis under the same conditions and results in a complex mixture of compounds with an average composition of C60(N-(2-pyrimidinyl)piperazine)2(OH)2O. Radical photoaddition of N-(2-pyridyl)piperazine to fullerene derivatives can be used as a facile route for their transformation into water-soluble compounds. Two model fullerene cycloadducts (a methanofullerene and a pyrrolidinofullerene) were easily converted into mixtures of regioisomers of A=C60(N-(2-pyridyl)piperazine)4O (A=cyclic addend) that give highly water-soluble salts under acid treatment.  相似文献

We report a photoelectron spectroscopy (PES) study on a series of fullerene oxides, C60Ox- (x = 1-3). The PES spectra reveal one isomer for C60O-, two isomers for C60O2, and multiple isomers for C60O3-. Compared to C60, the electronic structures of C60Ox are only slightly perturbed, resulting in similar anion photoelectron spectra. The electron affinity of C60Ox was observed to increase only marginally with the number of oxygen atoms, x, from 2.683 eV for C60, to 2.745 eV for C60O, and 2.785 eV/2.820 eV for C60O2 (two isomers). We also carried out theoretical calculations, which confirmed the observed isomers and showed that all the fullerene oxides are in the form of epoxide. The PES and theoretical calculations, as well as molecular orbital analysis, indicate that addition of oxygen atoms to the C60 cage only modifies the local carbon network and leave the rest of the fullerene cage largely intact geometrically and electronically.  相似文献

Polyhydroxylated fullerenes (fullerenols: C(60)(OH)(n)) are known as the major water-soluble fullerene derivatives which possess particular significance as free radical scavengers or antioxidants in biological systems. Recently, the novel polyhydroxylated fullerene (C(60) (OH)(44)·8H(2)O: SHH-F) was successfully synthesized. In the present study, we investigated the radical-scavenging effects and cytoprotective effects of three types of fullerenols (C(60)(OH)(6-12): LH-F, C(60) (OH)(32-34)·7H(2)O: HH-F, and C(60) (OH)(44)·8H(2)O: SHH-F) on UV-irradiation-induced cell injuries. HH-F and SHH-F exerted hydroxyl-radical scavenging activities as shown by DMPO-spin trap/ESR method, more markedly than LH-F. UVA or UVB irradiation-induced injuries in human skin keratinocytes HaCaT were significantly suppressed by HH-F and SHH-F, but scarcely by LF-H. The cytoprotective effects of SHH-F had a tendency to be superior to that of HH-F. And the cytoprotective effects of SHH-F against UVB-induced injuries were more effective than those of UVA. Irradiation with UVB to HaCaT cells was shown to cause rapid increases in cell-injury-associated symptoms such as intracellular oxidative stress levels, the formation of cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers and chromatin condensation, all of which were repressed by SHH-F. Thus, UVB-induced diverse harmful effects could be prevented by SHH-F, which was suggested to exert the cytoprotective effects through intracellular reactive oxygen species-scavenging in the keratinocytes.  相似文献

Oxidation of the fullerenediol C(60)(OH)(2)(O)(OAc)(OOtBu)(3) with PhI(OAc)(2) yields the open-cage fullerene derivative C(60)(O)(2)(O)(OAc)(OOtBu)(3)2 with an 11-membered orifice. Compound 2 reacts with aniline to form a new open-cage derivative with a 14-membered orifice, which yields an 18-membered open-cage fullerene derivative upon addition of another molecule of aniline. Two different types of aniline derivatives with either electron-donating or electron-withdrawing substituents can be added sequentially, affording an unsymmetrical moiety in the open-cage structure. Reduction potentials of the 18-membered open-cage fullerene derivatives can be fine-tuned by changing the substituents on the aniline. The results provide new insights about the mechanism of open-cage reactions of fullerene-mixed peroxide.  相似文献

Reaction of C(60) with CF(3)I at 550 degrees C, which is known to produce a single isomer of C(60)(CF(3))(2,4,6) and multiple isomers of C(60)(CF(3))(8,10), has now been found to produce an isomer of C(60)(CF(3))(6) with the C(s)-C(60)X(6) skew-pentagonal-pyramid (SPP) addition pattern and an epoxide with the C(s)-C(60)X(4)O variation of the SPP addition pattern, C(s)-C(60)(CF(3))(4)O. The structurally similar epoxide C(s)-C(60)(C(2)F(5))(4)O is one of the products of the reaction of C(60) with C(2)F(5)I at 430 degrees C. The three compounds have been characterized by mass spectrometry, DFT quantum chemical calculations, Raman, visible, and (19)F NMR spectroscopy, and, in the case of the two epoxides, single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The compound C(s)-C(60)(CF(3))(6) is the first [60]fullerene derivative with adjacent R(f) groups that are sufficiently sterically hindered to cause the (DFT-predicted) lengthening of the cage (CF(3))C-C(CF(3)) bond to 1.60 A as well as to give rise to a rare, non-fast-exchange-limit (19)F NMR spectrum at 20 degrees C. The compounds C(s)-C(60)(CF(3))(4)O and C(s)-C(60)(C(2)F(5))(4)O are the first poly(perfluoroalkyl)fullerene derivatives with a non-fluorine-containing exohedral substituent and the first fullerene epoxides known to be stable at elevated temperatures. All three compounds demonstrate that the SPP addition pattern is at least kinetically stable, if not thermodynamically stable, at temperatures exceeding 400 degrees C. The high-temperature synthesis of the two epoxides also indicates that perfluoroalkyl substituents can enhance the thermal stability of fullerene derivatives with other substituents.  相似文献

The structure of Sc3N@C80-C10H12O2, a Diels-Alder cycloadduct of Sc3N@C80, has been determined. The crystallographic data shows that cycloaddition occurs at a C-C bond of 6:5 ring junction, and that the fullerene C1-C2 bond is elongated and pulled out from the fullerene. The Sc3N unit is well-ordered within the C80 cage and positioned away from the site of addition. The proximity of the Sc atoms to the cage carbon atoms causes those carbon atoms to protrude slightly from the surface of the fullerene cage.  相似文献

The interactions of cyanoacetylene and diacetylene with a Si(111)-7 x 7 surface have been studied as model systems to mechanistically understand the chemical binding of unsaturated organic molecules to diradical-like silicon dangling bonds. Vibrational studies show that cyanoacetylene mainly binds to the surface through a diradical reaction involving both cyano and C[triple bond]C groups with an adjacent adatom-rest atom pair at 110 K, resulting in an intermediate containing triple cumulative double bonds (C=C=C=N). On the other hand, diacetylene was shown to the covalently attached to Si(111)-7 x 7 only through one of its C[triple bond]C groups, forming an enynic-like structure with a C=C-C[triple bond]C skeleton. These chemisorbed species containing triple cumulative double bonds (C=C=C=N) and C=C-C[triple bond]C may be employed as precursors (or templates) for further construction of bilayer organic films on the semiconductor surfaces.  相似文献

A C78 fullerene precursor: toward the direct synthesis of higher fullerenes   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A C78 fullerene related structure (of C78:1 and C78:4, the last undiscovered C78 IPR isomer) has been synthesized and investigated as a pyrolytic precursor. The pyrolysis of precursor containing all 78 carbon atoms in the required positions and 93 of the 117 C-C bonds, needed for fullerene formation, showed selectivity for C78 fullerene formation. In independent experiments it has been shown that the flash pyrolysis of C78 fullerene is not affected by Stone-Wales rearrangement and loss of C2 fragments and, thus, is very promising for the synthesis of individual isomers of higher fullerenes.  相似文献

Fullerene skeleton modification has been investigated through selective cleavage of the fullerene carbon-carbon bonds under mild conditions. Several cage-opened fullerene derivatives including three [59]fullerenones with an 18-membered-ring orifice and one [59]fullerenone with a 19-membered-ring orifice have been prepared starting from the fullerene mixed peroxide 1, C60(OOtBu)6. The prepositioned tert-butyl peroxy groups in 1 serve as excellent oxygen sources for formation of hydroxyl and carbonyl groups. The cage-opening reactions were initiated by photoinduced homolysis of the tBu-O bond, followed by sequential ring expansion steps. A key step of the ring expansion reactions is the oxidation of adjacent fullerene hydroxyl and amino groups by diacetoxyliodobenzene (DIB). Aminolysis of a cage-opened fullerene derivative containing an anhydride moiety resulted in multiple bond cleavage in one step. A domino mechanism was proposed for this reaction. Decarboxylation led to elimination of one carbon atom from the C60 cage and formation of [59]fullerenones. The cage-opened [59]fullerenones were found to encapsulate water under mild conditions. All compounds were characterized by spectroscopic data. Single-crystal structures were also obtained for five skeleton-modified derivatives including two water-encapsulated fulleroids.  相似文献

1H, 13C, and 15N NMR spectra show that an ortho-C(=O)X group present in the molecules of N-salicylideneanthranilamide (X = NH2), methyl N-salicylideneanthranilate (X = OCH3), N-salicylidene-o-aminoacetophenone (X = CH3), and their benzo analogues have only a minor effect on the tautomeric OH/NH-equilibrium in solution. Only two of three possible tautomers were detected. Lability of the absent form was proved by theoretical calculations. Calculated energies show that the enolimino form (OH) is less stable than the enaminone (NH) form only for dibenzo-annulated N-salicylideneanilines. The population of each species in the tautomeric mixture was found to be inversely proportional to its energy. Application of the geometry-based aromaticity index HOMA shows that the effectiveness of the pi-electron delocalization in different rings in the molecule depends mostly on the position of benzo-annulation. Both the NH...O and N...HO hydrogen bonds present in the NH and OH tautomers, respectively, increase the aromaticity of the quasirings H-O-C=C-C=N and O=C-C=C-N-H and decrease the aromatic character of the fused benzene ring. These results seem to be reliable when N-salicylideneanilines studied are compared with naphthalene and their benzo-annulated derivatives, i.e., phenanthrene, anthracene, and triphenylene. An analysis of the effectiveness of pi-electron delocalization confirms that in all cases studied, the OH form is more stable. Although the HOMA values and calculated energies are not a criterion that allows determination of the dominating tautomer, both of these parameters correctly show the effect of changes in the molecular topology on tautomeric preferences.  相似文献

The interaction of atomic oxygen (O(3P)) with semifluorinated self-assembled monolayers (CF-SAMs), two different n-alkanethiolate self-assembled monolayers, and a carbonaceous overlayer derived from an x-ray modified n-alkanethiolate SAM have been studied using in situ x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. For short atomic oxygen exposures, CF-SAMs remain intact, an effect ascribed to the inertness of C-F and C-C bonds toward atomic oxygen and the well-ordered structure of the CF-SAMs. Following this initial induction period, atomic oxygen permeates through the CF3(CF2)7 overlayer and initiates reactions at the film/substrate interface, evidenced by the formation of sulfonate (RSO3) species and Au2O3. These reactions lead to the desorption of intact adsorbate chains, evidenced by the loss of carbon and fluorine from the film while the C(1s) spectral envelope and the C(1s)/F(1s) ratio remain virtually constant. In contrast, the reactivity of atomic oxygen with alkanethiolate SAMs is initiated at the vacuum/film interface, producing oxygen-containing carbon functional groups. Subsequent reactions of these new species with atomic oxygen lead to erosion of the hydrocarbon film. Experiments on the different hydrocarbon-based films reveal that the atomic oxygen-induced kinetics are influenced by the thickness as well as the structural and chemical characteristics of the hydrocarbon overlayer. Results from this investigation are also discussed in the context of material erosion by AO in low Earth orbit.

FTIR-smog chamber techniques were used to study the products of the Cl atom and OH radical initiated oxidation of CF3CH=CH2 in 700 Torr of N2/O2, diluent at 296 K. The Cl atom initiated oxidation of CF3CH=CH2 in 700 Torr of air in the absence of NOx gives CF3C(O)CH2Cl and CF3CHO in yields of 70+/-5% and 6.2+/-0.5%, respectively. Reaction with Cl atoms proceeds via addition to the >C=C< double bond (74+/-4% to the terminal and 26+/-4% to the central carbon atom) and leads to the formation of CF3CH(O)CH2Cl and CF3CHClCH2O radicals. Reaction with O2 and decomposition via C-C bond scission are competing loss mechanisms for CF3CH(O)CH2Cl radicals, kO2/kdiss=(3.8+/-1.8)x10(-18) cm3 molecule-1. The atmospheric fate of CF3CHClCH2O radicals is reaction with O2 to give CF3CHClCHO. The OH radical initiated oxidation of CxF2x+1CH=CH2 (x=1 and 4) in 700 Torr of air in the presence of NOx gives CxF2x+1CHO in a yield of 88+/-9%. Reaction with OH radicals proceeds via addition to the >C=C< double bond leading to the formation of CxF2x+1C(O)HCH2OH and CxF2x+1CHOHCH2O radicals. Decomposition via C-C bond scission is the sole fate of CxF2x+1CH(O)CH2OH and CxF2x+1CH(OH)CH2O radicals. As part of this work a rate constant of k(Cl+CF3C(O)CH2Cl)=(5.63+/-0.66)x10(-14) cm3 molecule-1 s-1 was determined. The results are discussed with respect to previous literature data and the possibility that the atmospheric oxidation of CxF2x+1CH=CH2 contributes to the observed burden of perfluorocarboxylic acids, CxF2x+1COOH, in remote locations.  相似文献

On standing in organic solvents containing traces of water, C3 and C1 isomers of C60F36 slowly convert to C1 isomers of C60F35OH. Both fluorofullerenols eliminate HF during EI mass spectrometry to give C60F34O epoxides, one fullerenol being much less stable than the other to the extent that the mass spectrum shows only the epoxide. Both C60F35OH isomers have C1 symmetry, one being identified by the remarkable linear relationship between chemical shifts in its 19F NMR spectrum and those in the spectrum of C1 C60F36; the spectrum of the other shows the pattern of C3 C60F36 rendered asymmetrical by the replacement of one F by OH. The reactions are facilitated by the presence of isolated double bonds, and provide the first proven examples of an SN2' reaction of a fullerene derivative. Our observation explains why only a limited number of fluorines are readily replaced in C60F36 and why C60F18 is by contrast much more resistant to hydrolysis. We have isolated also a pure isomer of C60F36O, which is shown to be an oxahomofullerene (ether) apparently derived from C1 C60F36, and an impure fraction comprising a fourth isomer of C60F36, a trifluoromethyl derivative of C60F36, a second isomer of C60F36O, and an unknown species of 1392 u.  相似文献

tert-Butylperoxy radicals add to C(60) selectively to form multi-adducts C(60)(O)(m)(OO(t)Bu)(n) (m = 0, n = 2, 4, 6; m = 1, n = 0, 2, 4, 6) in moderate yields under various conditions. Visible light irradiation favors epoxide formation. High concentration of tert-butylperoxy radicals mainly produces the hexa-homoadduct C(60)(OO(t)Bu)(6) 6; low concentration and long reaction time favor the epoxy-containing C(60)(O)(OO(t)Bu)(4) 7. The reaction can be stopped at the bis-adducts with limited TBHP. A stepwise addition mechanism is discussed involving mono-, allyl-, and cyclopentadienyl C(60) radical intermediates. m-CPBA reacts with the 1,4-bis-adduct to form C(60)(O)(OO(t)Bu)(2) and C(60)(O)(3)(OO(t)Bu)(2). The C-O bond of the epoxy ring in 7 can be cleaved with HNO(3) and CF(3)COOH. Nucleophilic addition of NaOMe to 7 follows the S(N)1 and extended S(N)2' mechanism, from which four products are isolated with the general formula C(60)(O)(a)(OH)(b)(OMe)(c)(OO(t)Bu)(d). Visible light irradiation of the hexa-adduct 6 results in partial cleavage of both the C-O and O-O bonds of peroxide moieties and formation of the cage-opened compound C(60)(O)(O)(2)(OO(t)Bu)(4). All the fullerene derivatives are characterized by spectroscopic data. A single-crystal structure has been obtained for an isomer of C(60)(O)(OH)(2)(OMe)(4)(OO(t)Bu)(2).  相似文献

Vacuum studies of metal single crystal surfaces using electron and molecular beam scattering revealed that the surface atoms relocate when the surface is clean (reconstruction) and when it is covered by adsorbates (adsorbate-induced restructuring). It was also discovered that atomic steps and other low coordination surface sites are active for breaking chemical bonds (H-H, O=O, C-H, C=O, and C-C) with high reaction probability. Investigations at high reactant pressures using sum frequency generation-vibrational spectroscopy and high pressure scanning tunneling microscopy revealed bond breaking at low reaction probability sites on the adsorbate-covered metal surface and the need for adsorbate mobility for continued turnover. Since most catalysts (heterogeneous, enzyme, and homogeneous) are nanoparticles, colloid synthesis methods were developed to produce monodispersed metal nanoparticles in the 1-10 nm range and controlled shapes to use them as new model catalyst systems in two-dimensional monolayer film or deposited in mesoporous three-dimensional oxides. Studies of reaction selectivity in multipath reactions (hydrogenation of benzene, cyclohexene, and crotonaldehyde) showed that the reaction selectivity depends on both nanoparticle size and shape. The oxide-metal nanoparticle interface was found to be an important catalytic site that is associated with the hot electron flow induced by exothermic reactions such as carbon monoxide oxidation.  相似文献

We synthesized two series of compounds in which a nitroxide radical and a fullerene C(60) moiety were kept separated by a 3(10)-helical peptide bridge containing two intramolecular C═O···H-N hydrogen bonds. The direction of the resulting molecular dipole moment could be reversed by switching the position of fullerene and nitroxide with respect to the peptide nitrogen and carbon termini. The resulting fullerene-peptide-radical systems were compared to the behaviors of otherwise identical peptides but lacking either C(60) or the free radical moiety. Electrochemical analysis and chemical nitroxide reduction experiments show that the dipole moment of the helix significantly affects the redox properties of both electroactive groups. Besides providing evidence of a folded helical conformation for the peptide bridge, IR and NMR results highlight a strong effect of peptide orientation on the spectral patterns, pointing to a specific interaction of one of the helical orientations with the C(60) moiety. Time-resolved EPR spectra show not only that for both systems triplet quenching by nitroxide induces spin polarization of the radical spin sublevels, but also that the coupling interaction can be either weak or strong depending on the orientation of the peptide dipole. As opposed to the concept of dyads, the molecules investigated are thus better described as fullerene-peptide-radical systems to stress the active role of the bridge as an important ingredient capable of tuning the system's physicochemical properties.  相似文献

The experimental charge densities of the halogenated C(60) fullerenes C(60)F(18) and C(60)Cl(30) were determined from high-resolution X-ray data sets measured with conventional Mo(Kalpha) radiation at 20 K for C(60)Cl(30) and with synchrotron radiation at 92 K for the fluorine compound. Bond topological and atomic properties were analyzed by using Bader's AIM theory. For the different C--C bonds, which vary in lengths between 1.35 and 1.70 A bond orders n between n=2 and significantly below n=1 were calculated from the bond topological properties at the bond critical points (BCP's). The low bond orders are seen for 5/6 bonds with each contributing carbon carrying a halogen atom. By integration over Bader's zero flux basins in the electron density gradient vector field atomic properties were also obtained. In contrast to free C(60), in which all carbon atoms have a uniform volume of 11 A(3) and zero charge, atomic volumes vary roughly between 5 and 10 A(3) in the halogenated compounds. Almost zero atomic charges are also found in the Cl derivative but a charge separation up to +/-0.8 e exists between C and F in C(60)F(18) due to the higher fluorine electronegativity, which is also seen in the electrostatic potential for which the electronegativity difference between carbon and fluorine, and the addition to one hemisphere of the fullerene cage leads to a strong potential gradient along the C(60)F(18) molecule. From the summation over all atomic volumes it follows that the halogen addition does not only lead to a dramatic distortion of the C(60) cage but also to a significant shrinkage of its volume.  相似文献

Understanding the effect of reactive oxygen species (ROS), such as singlet oxygen molecule and atomic oxygen, on polyimide (PI) film properties, such as wettability, morphology, and chemical bonding state, is essential for further development of PI‐based surfaces. We investigated the effect of different ROS generated during ultraviolet (UV) and plasma treatment in oxygen gas on surface modification of Kapton PI. Different surface modification techniques, UV and plasma treatment, are known to generate different ROS. In this work, we demonstrate the effect of different ROS on PI surface modification. From the diagnostics of ROS by means of electron spin resonance and optical emission spectroscopy, we confirmed that during UV treatment, excited singlet oxygen molecules are the main ROS, while plasma treatment mainly generated atomic oxygen. The wettability of PI surface treated by UV and plasma resulted in hydrophilic PI surfaces. XPS results show that the wettability of PI samples is mainly determined by their surface O/C ratio. However, chemical bonding states were different: while UV treatment tended to generate C=O bonds, while plasma treatment tended to generate both C―O and C=O bonds. Singlet oxygen molecules are concluded to be the main oxidant during UV treatment, and their main reaction with PI was concluded to be of the addition type, leading to an increase of C=O groups on the surface of PI film. Meanwhile, atomic oxygen species were the main oxidant during plasma treatment, reacting with the PI surface through both etching and addition reaction, resulting in a wider variety of bonds, including both C―O and C=O groups.  相似文献
