Low-energy spin excitations of La(1.85)Sr(0.15)Cu(1-y)Zn(y)O4 were studied by neutron scattering. In y=0.004, the incommensurate magnetic peaks show a well-defined "spin gap" below T(c). The magnetic signals at omega=3 meV decrease below T(c)=27 K for y=0.008, also suggesting the gap opening. At lower temperatures, however, the signal increases again, implying a novel in-gap spin state. In y=0.017, the spin gap vanishes and elastic magnetic peaks appear. These results clarify that doped Zn impurities induce the novel in-gap state, which becomes larger and more static with increasing Zn.  相似文献

Magnetic zigzag edges of graphene are considered as a basis for novel spintronics devices despite the fact that no true long-range magnetic order is possible in one dimension. We study the transverse and longitudinal fluctuations of magnetic moments at zigzag edges of graphene from first principles. We find a high value for the spin wave stiffness D=2100 meV A2 and a spin-collinear domain wall creation energy E(dw)=114 meV accompanied by low magnetic anisotropy. Above the crossover temperature T(x) approximately 10 K, the spin correlation length xi proportional, variantT(-1) limits the long-range magnetic order to approximately 1 nm at 300 K while below T(x), it grows exponentially with decreasing temperature. We discuss possible ways of increasing the range of magnetic order and effects of edge roughness on it.  相似文献

Neutron scattering is used to probe antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations in the d-wave heavy fermion superconductor CeCoIn5 (T_(c)=2.3 K). Superconductivity develops from a state with slow (variant Planck's over 2piGamma=0.3+/-0.15 meV) commensurate [Q_(0)=(1/2,1/2,1/2)] antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations and nearly isotropic spin correlations. The characteristic wave vector in CeCoIn5 is the same as CeIn3 but differs from the incommensurate wave vector measured in antiferromagnetically ordered CeRhIn5. A sharp spin resonance (variant Planck's over 2piGamma<0.07 meV) at variant Planck's over 2piomega=0.60+/-0.03 meV develops in the superconducting state removing spectral weight from low-energy transfers. The presence of a resonance peak is indicative of strong coupling between f-electron magnetism and superconductivity and consistent with a d-wave gap order parameter satisfying Delta(q+Q0)=-Delta(q).  相似文献

Layered borocarbides RB2C (R=Dy, Ho, and Er) have been studied by powder neutron diffraction at 2-30 K. ErB2C has two-sublattice antiferromagnetic order below T(N)=16.3 K, but DyB2C and HoB2C show a coexistence of a conventional canted k=(000) ferromagnetic structure and unconventional magnetic correlations. The k=(000) phase orders at T(c)=8.5 K (DyB2C) and 7.1 K (HoB2C), but low-Q diffraction peaks from the unconventional correlations appear above T(c) with different critical temperatures for different peaks: at 8, 10.5, and 15.7 K for HoB2C. This scattering is fitted as diffraction from a Warren-type random magnetic layer lattice and may result from quadrupolar interactions between R3+ spins.  相似文献

We report on diffraction measurements on multiferroic TbMnO(3) which demonstrate that the Tb- and Mn-magnetic orders are coupled below the ferroelectric transition T(FE) = 28 K. For T相似文献

We report inelastic neutron scattering measurements on Na2IrO3, a candidate for the Kitaev spin model on the honeycomb lattice. We observe spin-wave excitations below 5 meV with a dispersion that can be accounted for by including substantial further-neighbor exchanges that stabilize zigzag magnetic order. The onset of long-range magnetic order below T(N)=15.3 K is confirmed via the observation of oscillations in zero-field muon-spin rotation experiments. Combining single-crystal diffraction and density functional calculations we propose a revised crystal structure model with significant departures from the ideal 90° Ir-O-Ir bonds required for dominant Kitaev exchange.  相似文献

We report systematic measurements of ac susceptibility, nuclear-quadrupole-resonance spectrum, and nuclear-spin-lattice-relaxation time (T1) on the pressure (P)-induced heavy-fermion superconductor CeRhIn5. The temperature (T) dependence of 1/T(1) at P=1.6 GPa has revealed that antiferromagnetism (AFM) and superconductivity (SC) coexist microscopically, exhibiting the respective transition at T(N)=2.8 K and T(MF)(c)=0.9 K. It is demonstrated that SC does not yield any trace of gap opening in low-lying excitations below T(onset)(c)=2 K, but T(MF)(c)=0.9 K, followed by a T(1)T=const law. These results point to the unconventional characteristics of SC coexisting with AFM. We highlight that both of the results deserve theoretical work on the gapless nature in the low-lying excitation spectrum due to the coexistence of AFM and SC and the lack of the mean-field regime below T(onset)(c)=2 K.  相似文献

Magnetite (Fe3O4) is a mixed valent system where electronic conductivity occurs on the B site (octahedral) iron sublattice of the spinel structure. Below T(V)=123 K, a metal-insulator transition occurs which is argued to arise from the charge ordering of 2+ and 3+ iron valences on the B sites (Verwey transition). Inelastic neutron scattering measurements show that optical spin waves propagating on the B site sublattice (approximately 80 meV) are shifted upwards in energy above T_{V} due to the occurrence of B-B ferromagnetic double exchange in the mixed valent phase. The double exchange interaction affects only spin waves of Delta(5) symmetry, not all modes, indicating that valence fluctuations are slow and the double exchange is constrained by short-range electron correlations above T(V).  相似文献

Scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy measurements in the superconducting dichalcogenide 2H-NbS2 show a peculiar superconducting density of states with two well-defined features at 0.97 and 0.53 meV, located, respectively, above and below the value for the superconducting gap expected from the single band s-wave BCS model (Delta=1.76k_(B)T_(c)=0.9 meV). Both features have a continuous temperature evolution and disappear at T_(c)=5.7 K. Moreover, we observe the hexagonal vortex lattice with radially symmetric vortices and a well-developed localized state at the vortex cores. The sixfold star shape characteristic of the vortex lattice of the compound 2H-NbSe2 is, together with the charge density wave order, absent in 2H-NbS2.  相似文献

The magnetic penetration depth of single crystal Sm(1.85)Ce(0.15)CuO(4-y) was measured down to 0.4 K in dc fields up to 7 kOe. For insulating Sm2CuO4, Sm3+ spins order at the Ne el temperature, T(N)=6 K, independent of the applied field. Superconducting Sm(1.85)Ce(0.15)CuO(4-y) (T(c) approximately 23 K) shows a sharp increase in diamagnetic screening below T(*)(H) which varied from 4.0 K (H=0) to 0.5 K (H=7 kOe) for a field along the c axis. If the field was aligned parallel to the conducting planes, T(*) remained unchanged. The unusual field dependence of T(*) indicates a spin-freezing transition that dramatically increases the superfluid density.  相似文献

An inelastic neutron scattering study of overdoped Bi(2)Sr(2)CaCu(2)O(8+delta) ( T(c) = 83 K) has revealed a resonant spin excitation in the superconducting state. The mode energy is E(res) = 38.0 meV, significantly lower than in optimally doped Bi(2)Sr(2)CaCu(2)O(8+delta) ( T(c) = 91 K, E(res) = 42.4 meV). This observation, which indicates a constant ratio E(res)/k(B)T(c) approximately 5.4, helps resolve a long-standing controversy about the origin of the resonant spin excitation in high temperature superconductors.  相似文献

We experimentally reveal an unconventional anomalous Hall effect (UAHE) in a quasi-two-dimensional triangular-lattice antiferromagnet PdCrO?. Using high quality single crystals of PdCrO?, we found that the Hall resistivity ρ(xy) deviates from the conventional behavior below T*?20 K, noticeably lower than T(N)=37.5 K, at which Cr3+ (S=3/2) spins order in a 120° structure. In view of the theoretical expectation that the spin chirality cancels out in the simplest 120° spin structure, we discuss required conditions for the emergence of UAHE within Berry-phase mechanisms.  相似文献

An antiferroquadrupolar ordering at T(Q)=0.11 K has been found in a Pr-based superconductor PrIr(2)Zn(20). The measurements of specific heat and magnetization revealed the non-Kramers Γ(3) doublet ground state with the quadrupolar degrees of freedom. The specific heat exhibits a sharp peak at T(Q)=0.11 K. The increment of T(Q) in magnetic fields and the anisotropic B-T phase diagram are consistent with the antiferroquadrupolar ordered state below T(Q). The entropy release at T(Q) is only 20% of Rln2, suggesting that the quadrupolar fluctuations play a role in the formation of the superconducting pairs below T(c)=0.05 K.  相似文献

The in-plane magnetic field penetration depth (lambda(ab)) in single-crystal La1.83Sr0.17CuO4 was investigated by muon-spin rotation (muSR). The temperature dependence of lambda(ab)(-2) has an inflection point around 10-15 K, suggesting the presence of two superconducting gaps: a large gap (Delta(1)(d)) with d-wave and a small gap (Delta(2)(s)) with s-wave symmetry. The zero-temperature values of the gaps at mu(0)H=0.02 T were found to be Delta(1)(d)(0)=8.2(1) meV and Delta(2)(s)(0)=1.57(8) meV.  相似文献

Neutron-diffraction measurements in LaCrSb3 show a coexistence of ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic sublattices below T(C)=126 K, with ordered moments of 1.65(4) and 0.49(4)mu(B)/formula unit, respectively (T=10 K), and a spin-reorientation transition at approximately 95 K. No clear peak or step was observed in the specific heat at T(C). Coexisting localized and itinerant spins are suggested.  相似文献

We investigate the temperature (T)-dependent low-energy electronic structure of a boron-doped diamond thin film using ultrahigh resolution laser-excited photoemission spectroscopy. We observe a clear shift of the leading edge below T=11 K, indicative of a superconducting gap opening (Delta approximately 0.78 meV at T=4.5 K). The gap feature is significantly broad and a well-defined quasiparticle peak is lacking even at the lowest temperature of measurement (=4.5 K). We discuss our results in terms of disorder effects on the normal state transport and superconductivity in this system.  相似文献

The hole-concentration (x) dependence of the three-dimensional energy-momentum dispersion in (Bi, Pb)2(Sr, La)2CuO(6+delta) has been investigated by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. For a heavily overdoped sample of T(c) < or = 0.5 K, an energy dispersion of approximately 10 meV in width is observed in the vicinity of the (pi, 0) point with varying momentum along the c axis (k(z)). This k(z) dispersion is zero for underdoped, optimally doped, and slightly overdoped samples up to a doping level corresponding to T(c) = 22 k. At higher doping levels we observe significant dispersion of the order of 10 meV (sample with T(c) < or = 0.5 K). This is clear evidence that at a doping value corresponding to T(c) = 22 K, a crossover from two- to three-dimensional electronic structure occurs.  相似文献

We report Sb-NQR results which evidence a heavy-fermion (HF) behavior and an unconventional superconducting (SC) property in Pr(Os4Sb12 with T(c)=1.85 K. The temperature (T) dependence of nuclear-spin-lattice-relaxation rate, 1/T(1), and NQR frequency unravel a low-lying crystal-electric-field splitting below T0 approximately 10 K, associated with Pr3+(4f(2))-derived ground state. In the SC state, 1/T(1) shows neither a coherence peak just below T(c) K nor a T3-like power-law behavior observed for anisotropic HF superconductors with the line-node gap. The isotropic energy gap with its size Delta/k(B)=4.8 K seems to open up across T(c) below T(*) approximately 2.3 K. It is surprising that Pr(Os4Sb12 looks like an isotropic HF superconductor-it may indeed argue for Cooper pairing via quadrupolar fluctuations.  相似文献

We use high-resolution inelastic neutron scattering to study the low-temperature magnetic excitations of the electron-doping superconductor Pr(0.88)LaCe(0.12)CuO(4-delta) (T(c) = 21 +/- 1 K) over a wide energy range (4 meV < or = homega < or = 330 meV). The effect of electron doping is to cause a wave vector (Q) broadening in the low-energy (homega < or = 80 meV) commensurate spin fluctuations at (0.5, 0.5) and to suppress the intensity of spin-wave-like excitations at high energies (homega > or = 100 meV). This leads to a substantial redistribution in the spectrum of the local dynamical spin susceptibility chi'(omega), and reveals a new energy scale similar to that of the lightly hole-doped YB2Cu3O(6.353) (T(c) = 18 K).  相似文献

The study of the anisotropic superconductor MgB2 using a combination of scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy reveals two distinct energy gaps at Delta(1)=2.3 meV and Delta(2)=7.1 meV at 4.2 K. Different spectral weights of the partial superconducting density of states are a reflection of different tunneling directions in this multiband system. Temperature evolution of the tunneling spectra follows the BCS scenario [Phys. Rev. Lett. 3, 552 (1959)]] with both gaps vanishing at the bulk T(c). The data confirm the importance of Fermi-surface sheet dependent superconductivity in MgB2 proposed in the multigap model by Liu et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 87, 087005 (2001)]].  相似文献
