In this article we propose a theoretical treatment of noncollinear phase-matched femtosecond parametric interaction process pumped by ultrashort optical pulses, and investigated the pulse characteristics of OPG in BBO crystal. The results show that the major factors, which affect the optical parametric conversion coefficient and durations of the pulses, are the group velocity mismatch and the phase mismatch among the three ultra-short pulses. In addition, the material dispersion can cause the durations of the pulses to increase when pump pulse is below 20 fs, and its influence becomes more obvious at low pump intensity. 相似文献

We investigate the nonlinear tunneling of optical solitons through both dispersion and nonlinear barriers by employing the exact solution of the generalized nonlinear Schrödinger equation with variable coefficients. The extensive numerical simulations show that the optical solitons can be efficiently compressed when they pass through adequate engineered nonlinear barriers. A cascade compression system in a dispersion decreasing fiber with nonlinear barriers on an exponential background is proposed and the cascade compression of optical pulses is further investigated in detail. Finally, the stability to various initial perturbations of the cascade compressed optical soliton and the interaction between two neighboring compressed solitons were investigated too. 相似文献

We present the generation of intense terahertz pulses by optical rectification of 780 nm pulses in a large area gallium phosphide crystal. The velocity mismatch between optical and terahertz pulses thereby limits the bandwidth of the terahertz pulses. We show that this limitation can be overcome by a dynamic modification of the refractive index of the gallium phosphide crystal through generation of hot phonons. This is confirmed by excellent agreement between experimental results and model calculations. 相似文献

In the regime of coherent interaction of short optical pulses with a resonant medium, which is implemented with a pulse duration shorter than the relaxation times in the medium, the formation of population gratings can occur without overlapping the pulses therein. In this case, there are new possibilities for controlling optical pulses, which are especially pronounced for extremely short pulses. It is shown that, with the proper choice of the parameters of a sequence of extremely short optical pulses, not only the formation of population gratings, but also their erasure are possible. It is demonstrated that this effect can be used for the creation of an ultrahigh-speed optical deflector. 相似文献

We propose a novel optical time-to-live (TTL) processing scheme using asymmetric Mech-Zehnder interferometer (AMZI) and Fabry-Perot semiconductor optical amplifier (FP-SOA). AMZI transfers M TTL pulses into M - 1 pulses and two residual pulses with 6-dB power difference. FP-SOA enhances the power difference between the M- 1 pulses to the residual pulses to more than 10 dB. A numerical model is established for verifying the feasibility of this scheme. 相似文献

We theoretically and experimentally demonstrate that the bandwidth in a nondegenerate optical parametric amplifier can be substantially increased by noncollinear interaction in a quasi-phase-matched single-periodicity structure. Broadband amplification of signals between 1540 and 1720 nm was realized in periodically poled KTiOPO4. The achieved signal bandwidth of 6.9 THz at 1680 nm is large enough to accommodate sub-100 fs optical pulses. 相似文献

This study reports the first experimental demonstration that two light pulses were made motionless and interacted with each other through a medium. The scheme with motionless light pulses maximizes the interaction time and can achieve a considerable efficiency even below single-photon level. To demonstrate the enhancement of optical nonlinear efficiency, the experiment in this study used the process of one optical pulse switched by another based on the effect of electromagnetically induced transparency. Moving light pulses activate switching at an energy per area of 2 photons per atomic absorption cross section as discussed in [Phys. Rev. Lett. 82, 4611 (1999)]. This study demonstrates that motionless light pulses can activate switching at 0.56 photons per atomic absorption cross section, and that the light level can be further reduced by increasing the optical density of the medium. The result of this work enters a new regime of low-light physics. 相似文献

本文建立了包括增益色散,受激喇曼散射,双光子吸收效应的理论模型,讨论了光孤子脉冲在光纤放大器中的传播.数值计算结果表明:在反常色散范围内,光孤子的放大是不稳定的.增益色散导致光脉冲对称分裂,而受激喇曼散射则导致不对称的分裂.在增益色散和受激喇曼散射的共同作用下可获得新的时域和频域特征.有限带宽的放大能抑制受激喇曼散射引起的自频移.本文对有啁啾的光孤子脉冲的放大也进行了分析. 相似文献

将磁光效应作为微扰, 采用耦合模理论分析了磁光薄膜波导中微波静磁波对线性啁啾光脉冲的磁光Bragg衍射作用, 得到了传统磁化时磁光共线和非共线作用下的衍射光脉冲复振幅的解析表达式。在静磁波频率和波数相同的前提下, 通过对实际波导结构的计算表明, 基于静磁表面波的磁光共线作用比基于静磁正向体波的非共线作用更易于实现光脉冲压缩; 衍射光脉冲的半极大全宽度(FWHM)对失配斜率的依赖较为敏感。因此, 选用磁光共线作用和优化相位失配因子的频率变化率有助于改善磁光Bragg脉冲压缩器的性能。 相似文献

Long-range interaction of picosecond solitons through excitation of acoustic waves in optical fibers

We present the theory of electrostrictional interaction of soliton pulses in optical fibers. Solitons excite acoustic waves propagating in the direction transverse to the fiber axis. Scattering of optical radiation on these waves leads to a timing jitter of the optical pulses arrival time. We consider this effect as nonlinear self-scattering of light on acoustic waves. Because of the fact that a value of acoustic lifetime can reach a value of about 100 ns self-scattering on acoustic waves can be observed for a single optical pulse as well as for an optical pulse sequence as a whole. The value of single soliton self-frequency shift due to excitation of acoustic waves as a function of soliton duration have been obtained. For soliton duration sol > 14 ps an acoustic wave soliton self-frequency shift is larger than the Raman soliton self-frequency shift.The obtained theoretical results describe well the long-range interaction of soliton pulse trains in an optical fiber. The value of bit error rate due to electrostrictional interaction of optical pulses in high bit rate, ultra long soliton communication systems have been obtained. 相似文献

A microring resonator (MRR) system incorporating an add/drop system is presented. The finesse of the proposed system can be determined using the full width at half maximum (FWHM) and free spectrum range (FSR) of the generated multiple soliton pulses. The central wavelength of the bright input soliton pulse has been selected as 800 nm, at which a ring system with better sensitivity shows high finesse that is suitable for applications to many optical communication systems such as optical transmitters and sensors. Simulation results show that FSR of 0.3 nm and 1.1 ns and FWHM of 10 pm and 36.6 ps could be obtained. Therefore, a system with finesse of 30 can be obtained; in such a system, the MRR system shows high performance. This system can be used in optical communication networks as a transmitter system for optical soliton pulses with finesse of 30, and theses pulses can be detected via an optical receiver. 相似文献

A noncollinear optical parametric amplifier is presented that generates transform-limited sub-10-fs pulses that are tunable in both the visible and the near infrared (NIR). The pulse-front-matched pump geometry realizes tilt-free signal amplification, and pulses as short as 6.1 fs can be obtained from 550 to 700 nm. The large angular dispersion of the idler specific to the group-velocity-matching interaction is effectively eliminated by a grating-telescope compensator, and 9-fs NIR pulses are also successfully obtained from 900 to 1300 nm. This is believed to be the first tunable sub-10-fs light source. 相似文献

Results of study of nonlinear processes occurring during the propagation of light pulses in optical fibers doped with atoms of rare-earth elements under conditions of atomic coherence and interference are presented. For a three-level Λ scheme of interaction, the linear (χ(1)) and nonlinear (χ(3)) susceptibilities of such a medium are calculated. It is shown that the coefficients of Kerr nonlinearity and nonlinear absorption can reach extremely large values and can be negative. The competition between linear and nonlinear processes in the Λ scheme allows one to obtain compensation regimes when the coefficients of dispersion or absorption of the optical fiber material vanish. The efficient control of the optical properties of such a system over wide limits proves to be possible owing to variations in the parameters of light pulses at the input of the medium. The necessary conditions for realizing regimes with “slow” light, as well as for self-compression of a probing pulse on ultimately small spatial scales in a doped optical fiber, were obtained. 相似文献

Optical rectification of femtosecond pulses in nonlinear materials is an efficient method to generate ultra short terahertz
(THz) pulses over a wide frequency range extending from 100 GHz to well above 10 THz. Lithium niobate is particularly well
suited for such purposes and can be used both in bulk and periodically poled forms. Different optical techniques for the generation
of THz pulses are presented and compared theoretically. The whole discussion is performed for the interaction of gaussian
beams using the radiating antenna approach that takes into account the diffraction of the THz wave, and therefore may predict
the THz emission in a direction that differs from the optical pulse propagation.
