The bulk magnetic susceptibility chi(T,B) of YbRh(2)(Si(0.95)Ge(0.05))(2) has been investigated close to the field-induced quantum critical point at B(c) = 0.027 T. For B < or= 0.05 T a Curie-Weiss law with a negative Weiss temperature is observed at temperatures below 0.3 K. Outside this region, the susceptibility indicates ferromagnetic quantum critical fluctuations, chi(T) proportional, variantT-0.6 above 0.3 K. At low temperatures the Pauli susceptibility follows chi(0) proportional, variant(B-B(c))(-0.6) and scales with the coefficient of the T(2) term in the electrical resistivity. The Sommerfeld-Wilson ratio is highly enhanced and increases up to 30 close to the critical field.  相似文献

Effects of magnetic fields (applied along the c axis) on static spin correlation were studied for the electron-doped superconductors Pr1-xLaCexCuO4 with x=0.11 (T(c)=25 K) and x=0.15 (T(c)=16 K) by neutron-scattering measurements. In the x=0.11 sample, which is located near the antiferromagnetic (AF) and superconducting phase boundary, a commensurate magnetic order develops below around T(c) at zero field. Upon applying a magnetic field up to 9 T both the magnetic intensity and the onset temperature of the order increase with the maximum field effect at approximately 5 T. In contrast, in the overdoped x=0.15 sample any static AF order is neither observed at zero field nor induced by the field up to 8.5 T. Difference and similarity of the field effect between the hole- and electron-doped high-T(c) cuprates are discussed.  相似文献

A model for thermally activated dynamics in disordered systems shows that the linear and nonlinear susceptibility follows a generic exponential form with a "critical rounding," chi(1) proportional to chi(3) proportional to [T ln(t/tau(0)')/K](gamma/b phi) exp - [Tt(g)(phi b)ln(t/tau(0)'/K)](nu/b) (T=temperature, t=time, K=barrier constant, t(g) = 1 - T(SG)/T, and T(SG) = transition temperature; gamma>0 for chi(3) and <0 for chi(1)). This model, also valid in the presence of resonant tunneling states at energies K(0) < K [provided that K is replaced by K(0)+2T ln (1/Gamma(0)), where Gamma(0)(2) proportional, variant tunnel splitting of a spin S=1], is potentially applicable to a wide variety of systems opening the way for the study of thermally activated quantum phase transitions. The famous spin-glass system LiHo(x)Y(1-x) seems to follow this model.  相似文献

For a liquid sample with unrestricted diffusion in a constant magnetic field gradient g, the increase R in R2=1/T2 for CPMG measurements is 1/3(taugammag)2D, where gamma is magnetogyric ratio, tau is the half the echo spacing TE, and D is the diffusion constant. For measurements on samples of porous media with pore fluids and without externally applied gradients there may still be significant pore-scale local inhomogeneous fields due to susceptibility differences, whose contributions to R2 depend on tau. Here, diffusion is not unrestricted nor is the field gradient constant. One class of approaches to this problem is to use an "effective gradient" or some kind of average gradient. Then, R2 is often plotted against tau2, with the effective gradient determined from the slope of some of the early points. In many cases, a replot of R2 against tau instead of tau2 shows a substantial straight-line interval, often including the earliest available points. In earlier work [G.C. Borgia, R.J.S. Brown, P. Fantazzini, Phys. Rev. E 51 (1995) 2104; R.J.S. Brown, P. Fantazzini, Phys. Rev. B 47 (1993) 14823] these features were noted, and attention was called to the fact that very large changes in field and gradient are likely for a small part of the pore fluid over distances very much smaller than pore dimensions. A truncated Cauchy-Lorentz (C-L) distribution of local fields in the pore space was used to explain observations, giving reduced effects of diffusion because of the averaging properties of the C-L distribution, the truncation being at approximately +/-1/2chiB0, where chi is the susceptibility difference. It was also noted that, when there is a narrow range of pore size a, over a range of about 40 of the parameter xi=1/3chinua2/D, where nu is the frequency, R2 does not depend much on pore size a nor on diffusion constant D. Examples are shown where plots of R2 vs tau show better linear fits to the data for small tau values than do plots vs tau2. The present work shows that, if both grain-scale and sample-scale gradients are present for samples with narrow ranges of T2, it may be possible to identify the separate effects with the linear and quadratic coefficients in a second-order polynomial fit to the early data points. Of course, many porous media have wide pore size and T2 distributions and hence wide ranges of xi. For some of these wide distributions we have plotted R2 vs tau for signal percentiles, normalized to total signal for shortest tau, again showing initially linear tau-dependence even when available data do not cover the longest and/or shortest T2 values for alltau values. For the examples presented, both the intercepts and the initial slopes of the plots of R2 vs tau increase systematically with signal percentile, starting at smallest R2.  相似文献

(TMTSF)2ClO4 is a quasi-one-dimensional organic conductor and superconductor with Tc=1.4 K, and one of at least two Bechgaard salts observed to have upper critical fields far exceeding the paramagnetic limit. Nevertheless, the 77Se NMR Knight shift at low fields reveals a decrease in spin susceptibility chi(s) consistent with singlet spin pairing. The field dependence of the spin-lattice relaxation rate at 100 mK exhibits a sharp crossover (or phase transition) at a field Hs approximately 15 kOe, to a regime where chi(s) is close to the normal state value, even though Hc2> Hs.  相似文献

Muon spin rotation ( &mgr;SR) measurements of the temperature dependence of the &mgr;(+) Knight shift in single crystals of U0. 965Th0.035Be13 have been used to study the static spin susceptibility chi(s) below the transition temperatures T(c1) and T(c2). While an abrupt reduction of chi(s) with decreasing temperature is observed below T(c1), chi(s) does not change below T(c2) and remains at a value below the normal-state susceptibility chi(n). In the normal state we find an anomalous anisotropic temperature dependence of the transferred hyperfine coupling between the &mgr;(+) spin and the U 5f electrons.  相似文献

Creep and relaxation of domain walls under ac electric fields are observed in an ideal model system, periodically poled KTiOPO4, to occur in different regimes, which are separated by dynamic phase transitions at frequencies f(m)(T)=f(m0)exp((-DeltaE/k(B)T), with f(m0)=3 x 10(9) Hz and DeltaE=0.6 eV. Power law dispersion of the creep susceptibility, chi proportional to 1+(iomegatau)(-beta), with beta approximately equal to 0.4, and large nonlinearity encountered at f < f(m), is contrasted with Cole-Cole-type relaxational dispersion, chi proportional to (1+[iomegatau](1-alpha))(-1), with alpha approximately 0.3, at f > f(m).  相似文献

We consider a superconducting state with mixed-symmetry order parameter components, e.g., d+is or d+id(') with d(') = d(xy). We argue for the existence of a new orbital magnetization mode which corresponds to oscillations of relative phase straight phi between two components around an equilibrium value of straight phi = pi / 2. It is similar to the "clapping" mode in superfluid 3He-A. We estimate the frequency of this mode omega(0)(B,T) depending on the field and temperature for the specific case of magnetic field induced d(') = d(xy) state. This mode is tunable with a magnetic field with omega(0)(B,T) approximately BDelta(0), where Delta(0) is the magnitude of the d-wave order parameter. We also estimate the velocity s(B,T) of this mode.  相似文献

Muon spin rotation/relaxation measurements have been performed in the itinerant helical magnet MnSi at ambient pressure and at 8.3 kbar. We have found the following: (a) the spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T(1) shows divergence as T1T proportional, variant (T-T(c))(beta) with the power beta larger than 1 near T(c); (b) 1/T(1) is strongly reduced in an applied external field B(L) and the divergent behavior near T(c) is completely suppressed at B(L)> or =4000 G. We discuss that (a) is consistent with the self-consistent renormalization theory and reflects a departure from "mean-field" behavior, while (b) indicates selective suppression of spin fluctuations of the q=0 component by B(L).  相似文献

From thermodynamics, local spin density approximation+Hubbard U studies and exact diagonalizations of a five-band Hubbard model on CuO2 stripes we find that Li2ZrCuO4 (Li2CuZrO4 in traditional notation) is close to a ferromagnetic critical point. Analyzing its susceptibility chi(T) and specific heat cp(T,H) within a Heisenberg model, we show that the ratio of the 2nd to the 1st neighbor exchange integrals alpha=-J2/J1 approximately 0.3 is close to the critical value alphac=1/4. Comparing with related chain cuprates we explain the rather strong field dependence of cp, the monotonic downshift of the peak of chi(T), and its increase for alpha-->alphac+0.  相似文献

From measurements of the 63Cu Knight shift ( K) and the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate ( 1/T1) under magnetic fields from zero up to 28 T in the slightly overdoped high- T(c) superconductor TlSr2CaCu2O6.8 ( T(c) = 68 K), we find that the pseudogap behavior, i.e., the reductions of 1/T1T and K above T(c) from the values expected from the normal state at high T, is strongly field dependent and follows a scaling relation. We show that this scaling is consistent with the effects of the Cooper pair density fluctuations. The present finding contrasts sharply with the pseudogap property reported previously in the underdoped regime where no field effect was seen up to 23.2 T. The implications are discussed.  相似文献

We measure the ratio of cross section times branching fraction, Rp=sigma chi c2 B(chi c2-->J/psi gamma)/sigma chi c1 B(chi c1-->J/psi gamma), in 1.1 fb(-1) of pp collisions at square root s=1.96 TeV. This measurement covers the kinematic range pT(J/psi)>4.0 GeV/c, |eta(J/psi)<1.0, and pT(gamma)>1.0 GeV/c. For events due to prompt processes, we find Rp=0.395+/-0.016(stat)+/-0.015(syst). This result represents a significant improvement in precision over previous measurements of prompt chi c1,2 hadro production.  相似文献

Measurements of a.c.-susceptibility in the temperature range from 0.1–12 K superimposed over d.c.-magnetic fields up to 1 T are reported. The results in zero d.c.-field have revealed the onset of magnetic order at 5.6 K and indicated a superconducting transition at 2 K. This transition was determined from the center of susceptibility decrease, in agreement with the result published recently by Kolodziejczyk et al. The superconducting transition is suppressed by an applied field of about 1 T. Down to the lowest obtainable temperature no reappearance of magnetic order has been found even in the highest applied field.  相似文献

We have studied the variation of transverse magnetoresistance of underdoped YBCO(6.6) crystals, either pure or with reduced T(c) down to 3.5 K by electron irradiation, in fields up to 60 T. We find evidence that the superconducting fluctuation contribution to the conductivity is suppressed only above a threshold field H(c)'(T), which is found to vanish at T(c)' > T(c). In the pure YBCO(6.6) sample, H(c)' is already 50 T at T(c). We find that increasing disorder weakly depresses H(c)'(0), T(c)', and T(nu), the onset of the Nernst signal. Thus, these energy scales appear more characteristic of the 2D local pairing than the pseudogap temperature which is not modified by disorder.  相似文献

The anisotropic field dependence of the Sommerfeld coefficient gamma has been measured down to B-->0 by combining specific heat and Hall probe magnetization measurements in MgB2 single crystals. We find that gamma(B,theta) is the sum of two contributions arising from the sigma and pi band, respectively. We show that gammasigma(B,theta)=B/Bc2(theta) where Bc2(theta)=Bc2ab/sqrt[sin2theta+Gamma2cos2theta] with Gamma approximately 5.4 (theta being the angle between the applied field and the c axis) and gammapi(B,theta)=gammapi(B)=B/Bpi(B). The "critical field" of the pi band Bpi is fully isotropic but field dependent increasing from approximately 0.25 T for B< or =0.1 T up to 3 T approximately Bc2c for B-->3 T. Because of the coupling of the two bands, superconductivity survives in the pi band up to 3 T but is totally destroyed above for any orientation of the field.  相似文献

We report on magnetic susceptibility and specific heat measurements of the cubic helimagnet FeGe in external magnetic fields and temperatures near the onset of long-range magnetic order at TC = 278.2(3) K. Pronounced anomalies in the field-dependent χac(H) data as well as in the corresponding imaginary part χ'ac(H) reveal a precursor region around TC in the magnetic phase diagram. The occurrence of a maximum at T0 = 279.6 K in the zero-field specific heat data indicates a second-order transition into a magnetically ordered state. A shoulder evolves above this maximum as a magnetic field is applied. The field dependence of both features coincides with crossover lines from the field-polarized to the paramagnetic state deduced from χac(T) at constant magnetic fields. The experimental findings are analyzed within the standard Dzyaloshinskii theory for cubic helimagnets. The remarkable multiplicity of modulated precursor states and the complexity of the magnetic phase diagram near the magnetic ordering are explained by the change of the character of solitonic inter-core interactions and the onset of specific confined chiral modulations in this area.  相似文献

The temperature dependence of conductivity sigma(T) of a two-dimensional electron system in silicon has been studied in parallel magnetic fields B. At B = 0, the system displays a metal-insulator transition at a critical electron density n(c)(0), and dsigma/dT>0 in the metallic phase. At low fields ( B < or approximately equal to 2 T), n(c) increases as n(c)(B)-n(c)(0) proportional, variant Bbeta ( beta approximately 1), and the zero-temperature conductivity scales as sigma(n(s),B,T = 0)/sigma(n(s),0,0) = f(B(beta)/delta(n)), where delta(n) = [n(s)-n(c)(0)]/n(c)(0) and n(s) is electron density, as expected for a quantum phase transition. The metallic phase persists in fields of up to 18 T, consistent with the saturation of n(c) at high fields.  相似文献

Summary a.c. susceptibility measurements on a YBCO single crystal in an extended range of frequency and applied magnetic fields are presented. The dissipation phenomena shown by these measurements are interpreted inside the framework of the thermally activated flux motion theory developed for low-temperature superconductors in early '60. For this purpose the continuity equation for the magnetic field inside the sample is solved numerically, avoiding to usea priori the standard approximations of this theory: thermally activated flux creep and thermally assisted flux flow. The whole set of a.c. susceptibility measurements, performed in a wide range of the parameters, can be fitted with good agreement between the experimental and theoretical data. Single crystal neutron diffraction studies have been performed on the S = 3/2 kagome staircase compound Co(3)V(2)O(8) with a magnetic field applied along the magnetization easy-axis ([Formula: see text]). Previous zero-field measurements (Chen Y et al 2006 Phys. Rev. B 74 014430) reported a rich variety of magnetic phases, with a ferromagnetic ground state as well as incommensurate, transversely polarized spin density wave (SDW) phases (with a propagation vector of [Formula: see text]) interspersed with multiple commensurate lock-in transitions. The magnetic phase diagram with [Formula: see text] adds further complexity. For small applied fields, μ(0)H ≈ 0.05 T, the commensurate lock-in phases are destabilized in favor of the incommensurate SDW ones, while slightly larger applied fields restore the commensurate lock-in phase with δ = 1/2 and yield a new commensurate phase with δ = 2/5. For measurements in an applied field, higher-order scattering is observed that corresponds to the second harmonic.  相似文献

We report on results of specific heat measurements on single crystals of the frustrated quasi-2D spin-1/2 antiferromagnet Cs2CuCl4 (T(N)=0.595 K) in external magnetic fields B<12 T and for temperatures T>30 mK. Decreasing B from high fields leads to the closure of the field-induced gap in the magnon spectrum at a critical field Bc approximately = 8.51 T and a magnetic phase transition is clearly seen below Bc. In the vicinity of Bc, the phase transition boundary is well described by the power law Tc(B) proportional, variant (Bc-B)(1/phi), with the measured critical exponent phi approximately =1.5. These findings are interpreted as a Bose-Einstein condensation of magnons.  相似文献
