The canonical formalism for the Maxwell field on a null surface has been revisited. A new pair of gauge-independent canonical variables is introduced. It is shown that these variables are derivable from a Hamillon-Jacobi functional. The construction of the appropriate C * algebra is carried out in preparation for quantization. The resulting quantum theory is similar to a previous result. It is then shown that one can construct the T-variables of Rovelli and Smolin on the null surface. The Poisson bracket algebra exhibits causal relations along the null rays, but is nonsingular if the loops are restricted to those whose projections along the null rays are not tangent and one-to-one. Finally, there is a brief discussion of the relevance of this work to general relativity.It is a pleasure to dedicate this paper to Fritz Rohrlich who has been a collegue at Syracuse University for the past 30 years. We construct quantized free superfields and represent them as operator‐valued distributions in Fock space starting with the Majorana field. We then analyse the algebras generated by free component quantum fields together with the Susy generators Q, . This enables us to obtain the quantized chiral superfield by finite Susy transformation from its scalar component. To get hermitian superfields we study by the same method a second scalar field algebra from which various scalar superfields can be obtained by exponentiation. Next we investigate the vector algebra and use it to construct the massive vector superfield. Surprisingly enough, the result is totally different from the vector multiplet in the literature. It contains two hermitian four‐vector components instead of one and a spin‐3/2 field similar to the gravitino in supergravity.  相似文献

As an introduction to the use of self-dual variables on a null cone, the Hamiltonian for the Maxwell field is set up on a null cone in Minkowski space. In this treatment, the vector potential (the connection) and the self-dual components of the Maxwell field are treated as independent configuration space variables. Because the initial surface is a null cone, additional primary and secondary constraints arise. These constraints can be grouped into first class and second class. The elimination of the second class constraints together with the reality conditions on the vector potential, reduce the independent phase space variables to two. In its final form the Hamiltonian can be expressed in terms of the product of the self-dual Maxwell field and its complex conjugate.  相似文献

We find a universal SO(2) symmetry of a p-form Maxwell theory for both odd and even p. For odd p, it corresponds to the duality rotations but for even p, it defines a new set of transformations which is not related to duality rotations. In both cases, a symmetry group defines a subgroup of the O(2,1) group of R-linear canonical transformations which has also a natural representation on the level of quantization condition for p-brane dyons.  相似文献

Peristaltic motion induced by a surface acoustic wave of a viscous, compressible and electrically conducting Maxwell fluid in a confined parallel-plane microchannel through a porous medium is investigated in the presence of a constant magnetic field. The slip velocity is considered and the problem is discussed only for the free pumping case. A perturbation technique is employed to analyze the problem in terms of a small amplitude ratio. The phenomenon of a “backward flow” is found to exist in the center and at the boundaries of the channel. In the second order approximation, the net axial velocity is calculated for various values of the fluid parameters. Finally, the effects of the parameters of interest on the mean axial velocity, the reversal flow, and the perturbation function are discussed and shown graphically. We find that in the non-Newtonian regime, there is a possibility of a fluid flow in the direction opposite to the propagation of the traveling wave. This work is the most general model of peristalsis created to date with wide-ranging applications in biological, geophysical and industrial fluid dynamics.  相似文献

We extend the Einstein-aether theory to include the Maxwell field in a nontrivial manner by taking into account its interaction with the time-like unit vector field characterizing the aether. We also include a generic matter term. We present a model with a Lagrangian that includes cross-terms linear and quadratic in the Maxwell tensor, linear and quadratic in the covariant derivative of the aether velocity four-vector, linear in its second covariant derivative and in the Riemann tensor. We decompose these terms with respect to the irreducible parts of the covariant derivative of the aether velocity, namely, the acceleration four-vector, the shear and vorticity tensors, and the expansion scalar. Furthermore, we discuss the influence of an aether non-uniform motion on the polarization and magnetization of the matter in such an aether environment, as well as on its dielectric and magnetic properties. The total self-consistent system of equations for the electromagnetic and the gravitational fields, and the dynamic equations for the unit vector aether field are obtained. Possible applications of this system are discussed. Based on the principles of effective field theories, we display in an appendix all the terms up to fourth order in derivative operators that can be considered in a Lagrangian that includes the metric, the electromagnetic and the aether fields.  相似文献

为了分析方波驱动长螺线管内磁场畸变机理,利用麦克斯韦方程研究了螺线管内外的磁场分布情况。首先,利用麦克斯韦方程,分别建立了正弦波驱动螺线管内外电场、磁场模型,并结合安培环路定律和电磁感应定律选取了合适的边界条件,得到了正弦波驱动长螺线管的磁场分布;其次,通过傅里叶变换将方波信号变换为多个正弦信号叠加的形式,从而得到了方波驱动长螺线管磁场分布;最后,通过仿真试验重点分析了方波驱动信号频率对磁场的影响,并得出结论:方波驱动长螺线管磁场波形会失真、畸变,驱动信号频率较低、距离螺线管轴线距离较近处,磁场的方波特性较好。  相似文献

A method for Casimir pressure calculation with the help of the regular part of the Green surface function is considered in the two-dimensional case. Also, a method for the approximate calculation of the regular part of the Green surface function using a Born-type series is suggested. We spell out a demonstration that, within the framework of quantum field theory, no faster-than-light communication can be established between observers. The steps of the demonstration are detailed enough to pinpoint which properties of the theory have been misinterpreted in previous papers claiming the existence of effects that could permit such communication. We propose a method of calculation of Casimir pressure using the Green function for one-dimensional case. This method yields the renormalized pressure if an external field is absent, otherwise it permits us to calculate the dependence of pressure at one boundary on the other boundary’s coordinate. These are three introductory lectures on the relation between representations of affine Kac-Moody algebras, homology of configuration spaces with local coefficient systems, and quantum groups. The first lecture contains background on highest weight representations of affine Kac-Moody algebras. In the second lecture, conformal blocks, the Friedan-Shenker connection and the Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov (KZ) equation are reviewed. In the third lecture, the case of slz is studied in more detail. Integral representations of solutions of the KZ equation are derived, and recent results, obtained in collaboration with C. This study of U(1) gauge field theory on the kappa-deformed Minkowski space-time extends previous work on gauge field theories on this type of noncommutative space-time.We construct the conserved gauge current, fix part of the ambiguities in the Seiberg-Witten map and obtain an effective U(1) action invariant under the action of the undeformed Poincare group. The construction of Turaev and Viro involving quantum 6j-symbols and giving rise to invariants of closed, compact three-manifolds is extended. It leads to invariants of coloured graphs on the boundary of compact three-manifolds. This allows one to derive surgery formulas when cutting along an arbitrary two-manifold. In particular all axioms of a topological quantum field theory may be verified and the dimensions of the associated Hilbert spaces are given by the square of the Verlinde formula.  相似文献

One of von Neumann's motivations for developing the theory of operator algebras and his and Murray's 1936 classification of factors was the question of possible decompositions of quantum systems into independent parts. For quantum systems with a finite number of degrees of freedom the simplest possibility, i.e. factors of type I in the terminology of Murray and von Neumann, are perfectly adequate. In relativistic quantum field theory (RQFT), on the other hand, factors of type III occur naturally. The same holds true in quantum statistical mechanics of infinite systems. In this brief review some physical consequences of the type III property of the von Neumann algebras corresponding to localized observables in RQFT and their difference from the type I case will be discussed. The cumulative effort of many people over more than 30 years has established a remarkable uniqueness result: The local algebras in RQFT are generically isomorphic to the unique, hyperfinite type III, factor in Connes' classification of 1973. Specific theories are characterized by the net structure of the collection of these isomorphic algebras for different space-time regions, i.e. the way they are embedded into each other  相似文献
