The effect of thermal annealing of poly(3-octylthiophene) (P3OT) coatings on the corrosion inhibition of stainless steel in an NaCl solution was investigated. P3OT was synthesized by direct oxidation of the 3-octylthiophene monomer with ferric chloride (FeCl3) as oxidant. P3OT films were deposited by drop-casting technique onto 304 stainless steel electrode (304SS). 304SS coated with P3OT films were thermally annealed during 30 h at different temperatures (55°C, 80°C, and 100°C). The corrosion resistance of stainless steel coated with P3OT in 0.5 M NaCl aqueous solution at room temperature was investigated by using potentiodynamic polarization curves, linear polarization resistance, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The results indicated that the thermal treatment at 80°C and 100°C of P3OT films improved the corrosion resistance of the stainless steel in NaCl solution; the speed of corrosion diminished in an order of magnitude with regard to the 304SS. In order to study the temperature effect in the morphology of the coatings before and after the corrosive environment and correlate it with corrosion protection, atomic force microscopy and scanning electron microscopy were used. Morphological study showed that when the films are heated, the grain size increased and a denser surface was obtained, which benefited the barrier properties of the film.  相似文献

In the present study, tribological and corrosion behaviour of electroless Ni–B–W (ENB-W) coatings prepared from stabilizer-free baths and deposited on AISI 1040 steel substrates were examined. Three distinct coating bath temperatures (85 °C, 90 °C, and 95 °C) were varied for coating deposition. The coatings showed nodular morphology. Thermogravimetric study of ENB-W coatings revealed improved thermal stability attained at 95 °C bath temperature. The microhardness of ENB-W coating was 645, 690, and 720 HV100 at bath temperatures of 85 °C, 90 °C, and 95 °C respectively. The inclusion of W to Ni–B coating enhanced the hardness by ∼150 HV100. On a pin-on-disc tribometer, wear test was conducted. The precipitation of Ni (111) and its borides occurred post sliding wear at high temperatures (300 °C). Ni (111) crystallite size decreased because of high temperature sliding wear at 300 °C with an increase in coating bath temperature. With a reduction in crystallite size at high temperatures, both wear rate and COF decreases. The scratch hardness and first critical load of failure of the coatings was determined using a scratch tester. Using potentiodynamic polarization, corrosion resistance of ENB-W coatings in 3.5% NaCl was investigated. ENB-W coatings could provide shielding to AISI 1040 steel from corrosion. Though the corrosion resistance is poor with respect to lead stabilized coatings.  相似文献

Nickel-based coatings are potential candidates for the protection of electrochemical dissolution of steel surfaces. Such coatings, elaborated by magnetron sputtering in a nitrogen atmosphere, offer good corrosion protection, good adherence as well as stability for metallic structures. NiCr alloys with almost constant composition have been deposited with different nitrogen contents on stainless steel and carbon steel surfaces. The coating uniformity, homogeneity, composition and crystallinity have been studied by scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometry, atomic force microscopy and X-ray diffraction techniques. The corrosion degradation behavior of all the samples was tested in NaCl and NaCl and CO2 mixture exposures using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements. Nitrided NiCr alloys on a stainless steel substrate resulted with better adhesion than carbon steel, by delaying the corrosion mechanism when exposed to NaCl and CO2 solution. A comparison of the corrosion resistive behavior of the substrates (stainless steel, carbon steel) and the coatings is made by using the electrical capacitance concept from a double-layer model for the coating–metal interface.  相似文献

Stainless steel ISO 5832–9 type is often used to perform implants which operate in protein-containing physiological environments. The interaction between proteins and surface of the implant may affect its corrosive properties. The aim of this work was to study the effect of selected serum proteins (albumin and γ-globulins) on the corrosion of ISO 5832–9 alloy (trade name M30NW) which surface was modified by titania coatings. These coatings were obtained by sol–gel method and heated at temperatures of 400 and 800 °C. To evaluate the effect of the proteins, the corrosion tests were performed with and without the addition of proteins with concentration of 1 g L?1 to the physiological saline solution (0.9 % NaCl, pH 7.4) at 37 °C. The tests were carried out within 7 days. The following electrochemical methods were used: open circuit potential, linear polarization resistance, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. In addition, surface analysis by optical microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) method was done at the end of weekly corrosion tests. The results of corrosion tests showed that M30NW alloy both uncoated and modified with titania coatings exhibits a very good corrosion resistance during weekly exposition to corrosion medium. The best corrosion resistance in 0.9 % NaCl solution is shown by alloy samples modified by titania coating annealed at 400 °C. The serum proteins have no significant effect onto corrosion of investigated biomedical steel. The XPS results confirmed the presence of proteins on the alloy surface after 7 days of immersion in protein-containing solutions.  相似文献

SiO2 coatings onto stainless steel substrates have been prepared by sol-gel in order to study the performance and mechanism of attack in different corrosive solutions. The electrochemical behaviour of the samples has been evaluated by Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy using NaCl and HCl as electrolytes. Comparative tests have been performed on samples with one and two silica layers as well as on uncoated ones. SiO2 coatings produce no important protection of stainless steels subjected to electrochemical corrosion. This behaviour may be explained by micropores and microcracks produced during the coating sintering.  相似文献

Poly(urethane-ether-amide) (PUIEtA) nanocomposite coatings on mild steel were prepared by using corn oil, isosorbide and isophorone diisocynate and fumed silica. The syntheses steps were confirmed by FTIR, 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopy techniques. The morphology of PUIEtA nanocomposite coating was studied by SEM-EDX, that confirmed the presence of nanosilica and thermal behavior was studied by DSC/TGA analysis. The anticorrosion performance of PUIEtA coating systems on mild steel, exposed to 3.5?wt% NaCl solution, was evaluated using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Scratch hardness, pencil hardness, adhesion, and bending test were performed in order to investigate the performance of nanocomposite coating on mild steel substrate. It was found that PUIEtA-fumed silica nanocomposite coating could provide much better protection than PUIEtA. PUIEtA-3 nanocomposite coating can be safely used up to 200?°C.  相似文献

Two types of electroless Ni–W–P coatings: nanocrystalline with low P and amorphous with higher P content are investigated. Scanning probe microscopy is applied to study their morphology. Textured nanocrystalline coatings consist of coarse pyramids built of nanometer thick lamellas. The surface morphology of amorphous coatings is much finer and uniform. Nanohardness of all coatings depends on W content. Microhardness is increasing during the heat treatment up to 350 °C due to nickel phosphide precipitation affected by tungsten also. The wear resistance of nanocrystalline Ni–W–P coatings is much higher than that of amorphous in spite of the similar tungsten content in both. Lower corrosion resistance of amorphous Ni–W–P coatings is found by weight loss method during long-term immersion in 5 % NaCl. Electrochemical tests by potentiodynamic polarization curves in two model corrosion media—solutions of 0.5 M H2SO4 and 5 % NaCl—are performed. The corrosion of bi-layered Ni–W–P/Ni–P and Ni–W–P/Ni–Cu–P deposits on mild steel is also investigated. The results prove that an electroless Ni–W–P coating on mild steel extremely improves its mechanical and corrosion behavior. It is demonstrated that in addition to deposit’s structure and composition, the distribution and chemical state of alloy ingredients are also responsible for its properties.  相似文献

Super‐thick diamond‐like carbon (DLC) film is a potential protective coating in corrosive environments. In the present work, three kinds of DLC films whose thickness and modulation periods are 4 µm and 3, 21 µm and 17 and 21 µm and 7, respectively, were fabricated on stainless steel. The effect of different thickness and modulation periods on corrosion and tribocorrosion behaviour of the DLC‐coating stainless steel was investigated in 3.5 wt% NaCl aqueous solution by a ball‐on‐flat tribometer equipped with a three‐electrode electrochemical cell. The DLC‐coating stainless steel served as a working electrode, and its OCP and potentiodynamic polarization were monitored before and during rubbing. The wear–corrosion mechanism of the DLC films was investigated by SEM. The results showed that the increasing thickness can prolong significantly lifetime of DLC films in NaCl aqueous solution. In particular, the modulation period has a significant impact on the tribocorrosion resistance of the DLC super‐thick films. The study suggested that the increasing thickness of compressive stress layer could suppress film damage by reducing crack propagation rate. Thus, the super‐thick DLC film with thickness of 21 µm and 7 periods presented the best tribocorrosion resistance among all studied films. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Corrosion and kinetics of partial electrode reactions on carbon steel St3 with superhydrophobic coatings of three types were studied in 0.5 M NaCl and 50 g/L NaCl +400 mg/L H2S solutions. The investigations were carried out on electrodes made of carbon steel St3 with a chemical composition, wt. %: C – 0.20; Mn – 0.50; Si – 0.15; P – 0.04; S – 0.05; Cr – 0.30; Ni – 0.20; Cu – 0.20, and Fe – 98.36. To obtain the type I coating, the metal surface was textured by an IR laser radiation of nanosecond duration followed by chemisorption of fluorobutylsilane out of a solution in n-decane. To obtain a coating of type II, a nanoscale composite layer consisting of aggregates of aerosil nanoparticles was applied additionally to the outcome of type I method. To obtain a coating of type III, the metal surface after being textured by the infrared (IR) laser radiation of nanosecond duration was followed by chemisorption of fluoroxy silane. The influence of duration τ of the medium corrosive impact on protective effect of the superhydrophobic coating is considered. It was shown that upon reaching a steady state (after 72 h), the corrosion rate of steel with a superhydrophobic coating of I and II types in a 0.5 M NaCl solution is reduced by 23 ± 3 times compared with unprotected samples. Approximately the same picture is characteristic of electrodes with a coating of type III in a solution of 50 g/L NaCl +400 mg/L H2S.  相似文献

Advancements in the area of conducting polymers have been towards their application as effective corrosion protective coatings to replace the use of heavy metals as additives in the coatings industries, which are now considered to be an environmental as well as health hazard. With the aim to utilize a sustainable resource based polymer for the development of an anti‐corrosive conducting coating material, coconut oil based conducting blend coatings of polyaniline and poly(esteramide urethane) were prepared by loading different ratios (2, 4 and 8 wt%) of polyaniline in poly(esteramide urethane). Then their physico‐chemical, thermal, morphological, conductivity and anti‐corrosive coating characteristics were investigated. The effect of a 2 year environmental aging process on the coated samples was analyzed by thermal methods as well as by corrosion studies. Results showed that the corrosion protective performance of the blend coatings was far superior than that of plane poly(esteramide urethane). These coatings showed enhanced corrosion protection in acid as well as alkaline environments upto 360 and 192 hr respectively. Conductivity of the blends was found to be in the range 2.5 × 10?5–5.7 × 10?4 S/cm?1. An increase in the thermal stability of the blend coatings and a decrease in their conductivity was noticed in the aged samples which was attributed to the crosslinking effect. The corrosion protective performance of the coatings remained almost unaffected even after 2 years of aging. Copyright © 2005 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A chrome‐free conversion coating treatment for magnesium by phytic acid solution was developed. The immersion experiments were used for evaluating the effects of the processing parameters (such as conversion temperature and time, concentration and pH value of phytic acid solution) on the corrosion resistance of the phytic acid conversion coating. The morphologies and compositions of the coatings were determined by SEM and EDS respectively. The experimental results indicated that the corrosion resistance of the conversion coating formed in the solution containing 0.5% phytic acid at 25°C and pH=4 for 30 min was higher than that of natural oxide, and the conversion coating formed on the surface of magnesium was of multilayer mainly consisting of Mg, C, O and P. The thicknesses of the conversion coatings were approximately 1.0–15 µm and the conversion coatings presented obvious network‐like cracks. The electrochemical potentiodynamic polarization experiment indicated that the free corrosion potential of the magnesium with phytic acid conversion coating was increased, and its corrosion current and corrosion rate declined in 3.5% NaCl solution. Phytic acid conversion coating could improve the electrochemical property of magnesium and provide effective protection, which can improve the corrosion resistance of magnesium.  相似文献

Abstract

Phosphorylated graphene oxide (PedGO) was synthesized through the in-situ phosphate esterification method with urea as catalyst and then embed into waterborne acrylate-epoxy resin emulsion (AE) coating to modify the coating. The TEM and AFM indicated that phosphate was uniformly decorated on GO sheets, forming a large phosphorylated graphene oxide sheets. The PedGO improved the water vapor permeability and the coating adhesion strength after 30?days of immersion in 3.5% NaCl of AE coatings, respectively. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements (EIS) revealed that the PedGO-modified AE (PedGO/AE) was an outstanding barrier against corrosive media compared with AE or GO-modified AE (GO/AE). Scratch tests also showed that the corrosion-promotion effect of PedGO in AE was inhibited. The enhanced corrosion protection performance was observed because on the one hand the PedGO can greatly prolonged the diffusion pathway of corrosive media in the coating matrix; on the other hand the organic phosphate on the PedGO formed the passivation membrane with metal ions by chelation in the corrosion region, which can prevented the contact of corrosive medium and metal.  相似文献

3‐Methacryloxypropylpolysilsesquioxane (MA‐PS) was prepared by acid‐ or base‐catalyzed hydrolytic polycondensation of 3‐methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (MAS). MA‐PS coating film was prepared by dip‐coating on organic, metal and inorganic substrates, including poly(ethylene terephthalate), aluminum, stainless steel, and glass. The coating films on poly(ethylene terephthalate) and glass showed high adhesive strength. The hardness of coating films increased with increasing heat treatment temperature, whereas they decreased with increasing H2O/MAS molar ratio. The refractive index of coating films increased with increasing heat treatment temperature. In addition, flat and transparent free‐standing films (0.24–0.27 mm thickness) were prepared from MA‐PS that were crack‐free after heat treatment at 1000 °C. Powders and thin coatings of ceria and titania were synthesized from aqueous and solvent-based precursors. Thin coatings were deposited on polished 304 stainless steel coupons by dipping them in the appropriate sol-gel oxide precursors. The coatings were subsequently densified and crystallized at several hundreds of degrees. It was possible to obtain dense titania coatings by applying thin coatings of cerium dioxide prior to titania on stainless steel substrates. Underlayer ceria coatings proved to be pivotal in obtaining dense titania coatings and preserving the integrity of the stainless steel while going through the high temperature treatments. The effect of processing parameters such as the atmosphere of heat-treatment, and temperature on the microstructure and crystal structure of the films and powders of ceria and titania was investigated. X-ray diffraction was used to identify the crystal structure of films and powders upon heat-treatment. Electrochemical measurements in NaCl, and analytical techniques such as SEM and EDX were used to evaluate the corrosion performance and pitting morphology of coated samples. A composite coating of ceria and titania was able to prevent crevice corrosion and increase the pitting resistance of the 304 stainless steel relative to the uncoated substrate.  相似文献

Poly(o-toluidine) (POT) coatings were electrochemically synthesized on 304 stainless steel using cyclic voltammetric method. These coatings were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, UV–vis absorption spectroscopy, and cyclic voltammetry. The corrosion performance of POT coating in aqueous 3 wt% sodium chloride was assessed by the electrochemical techniques such as open circuit potential measurements, potentiodynamic polarization technique, cyclic potentiodynamic polarization measurements, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The results reveal that POT coating on 304 stainless steel prevents general and localized corrosion, and reduces the exchange current density almost by a factor of 45 than bare 304 stainless steel.  相似文献

In present study, the effect of the solvent annealing temperature on the crystal modifications and the phase transition behavior of the subsequently dried poly(3-octylthiophene) (P3OT) film has been investigated by the combination of DSC, WAXD and FTIR techniques. When chloroform is employed as the solvent, it is unexpectedly found that form I and form II crystal modifications of P3OT could be respectively obtained by room temperature and low temperature annealing. Comparing to the mostly used solvent reported for preparing form II, i.e. carbon disulfide (CS2) which is toxic and corrosive, chloroform is less toxic and corrosive and more suitable for solution processing of P3OT. Therefore, this finding provides an alternative way to obtain form II. By temperature dependent IR spectroscopy, the structural evolution of P3OT during the form II to form I phase transition process has also been studied in detail.  相似文献

Zinc coatings on ferrous substrates are possible to be applied with thermal spraying. In the present work the corrosion behavior of zinc thermal sprayed coatings deposited on low carbon steel St-37 was examined in a simulated marine atmosphere (salt spray chamber-SSC) and in a dry atmosphere at elevated temperature (400°C). The corrosion progress was examined by means of optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric analysis. From this investigation it was deduced that in the SSC the coating is uniformly corroded, while the main corrosion products are hydrated zinc oxides and chlorides. By contrast at 400°C only a thin, compact and continuous film of ZnO is formed on top of the coating, which remains adherent to the ferrous substrate.  相似文献

Glass-like sol-gel coatings have been investigated as corrosion protective coatings on stainless steel. Magnesium- and borosilicate coatings with thickness of about 100–700 nm and methyl-modified SiO2 coatings with a thickness of about 2 m were deposited on stainless steel plates by dip-coating. The coatings were densified between 400°C and 500°C in different atmospheres (N2, air) for 1 h. The corrosion protection against gaseous attack was investigated by accelerated corrosion tests, at 800°C in air for 1 h. A corrosion protection factor was calculated from the relation Fe/Fe2O3, determined by XRD on the surface of coated and uncoated samples. Methyl-modified SiO2 coatings showed a protection factor, which was 2 orders of magnitude higher than for the other coatings. Electrochemical investigations were performed on samples submerged in a NaCl solution for 200 h. The corrosion propagation, polarization resistance and impedance vector were measured. For accelerated corrosion tests, polarization intensity curves were determined for high potentials of up to 1 V. Again excellent results were obtained for the methyl-modified SiO2 coatings, which remained passive for 200 h. Results of the salt spray corrosion test, however, showed no corrosion protection by the sol-gel coatings. After 2000 h in the salt spray chamber the steel was corroded and the coatings peeled off. It is concluded that for the further development of these coatings an improved interfacial passivation will be required.  相似文献

Drug‐eluting stents are used in the treatment of atherosclerosis, where the incorporation of anti‐proliferative or anti‐inflammatory drugs decreases the rate of restenosis, the recurrence of artery narrowing. However, these stents can suffer from limitations such as drug depletion and delamination of the drug‐eluting coating from the stent surface. Described here is an approach aimed at addressing these issues. Starting from a maleic anhydride adduct of polyisobutylene (PIB) prepared from butyl rubber, ring opening using paclitaxel (PTX) or a combination of PTX and polystyrene (PS) afforded covalent conjugates of PTX and PIB or PIB‐PS graft copolymers bearing pendant carboxylic acids. When coated on stainless steel, the drug release was slower than that from a control coating that ressembles a clinical formulation comprising a physical mixture of a PS‐PIB‐PS triblock copolymer (SIBS) and PTX. The PTX conjugates also exhibited enhanced adhesion to stainless steel and increased tensile strength in comparison with the starting rubber. Cytotoxicity assays indicated that the materials did not leach toxic levels of PTX into cell culture media. Nevertheless, they were capable of inhibiting the adhesion and proliferation of C2C12 cells on their surfaces. These properties are advantageous for the potential application of the materials as stent coatings. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Chem. 2016 , 54, 2209–2219  相似文献
