We report on detailed Hartree–Fock calculations of the unidirectional charge density wave orientation energy induced by a tilted magnetic field. We find that for current experimental samples stripes are oriented perpendicular to the in-plane field, consistent with experiment. For wider two-dimensional electron systems we predict tilt-induced stripe states with variable anisotropy energy sign.  相似文献

We have measured magnetotransport at half-filled high Landau levels in a quantum well with two occupied electric subbands. We find resistivities that are isotropic in perpendicular magnetic field but become strongly anisotropic at nu = 9/2 and 11/2 on tilting the field. The anisotropy appears at an in-plane field, B(ip) approximately 2.5 T, with the easy-current direction parallel to B(ip) but rotates by 90 degrees at B(ip) approximately 10 T and points now in the same direction as in single-subband samples. This complex behavior is in quantitative agreement with theoretical calculations based on a unidirectional charge density wave state model.  相似文献

The change in the magnetic domain structure due to the proximity of a superconductor has been experimentally investigated for the first time. The complex character of magnetization reversal at temperatures below critical, caused by the mutual long-range effect of a superconductor and a magnet, has been shown. In particular, it is found that even magnetization reversal of the heterostructure by an in-plane field leads to the formation of Abrikosov vortices in the superconductor, carrying a flux perpendicularly to the film plane. It is shown that this is a consequence of the transformation of narrow domain walls into wide stripes due to the interaction with scattering fields from the superconductor. In turn, after penetration of the magnetic flux into the superconductor at some depth, the scattering fields cause backward magnetization reversal of the external film edge, as a result of which vortices with oppositely directed fluxes enter the crystal and propagate in the superconductor bulk in the form of chains along twins, as in the case of magnetization by a perpendicular magnetic field. Thus, at longitudinal magnetization, the flux enters the superconducting film in the form of wide stripes with alternating perpendicular induction, which is explained by the long-range interaction of the scattering fields of the superconductor with the manganite magnetization.  相似文献

A terahertz quantum cascade laser, operating at lambda=159 microm and exploiting the in-plane confinement arising from perpendicular magnetic field, is used to investigate the physics of electrons confined on excited subbands in the regime of a large ratio of the magnetic field confinement energy to the photon energy. As the magnetic field is increased above about 6 T, and the temperature lowered below 20 K, the devices are characterized by a very low threshold current density, with values as low as J(th)=1A/cm(2), and an increase of gain by five times the low field value. We show that, as with the quantum Hall effect, the key physical process is the localization of the carriers. Evidences for resonant electron-electron scattering processes are directly obtained from light intensity and transport measurements.  相似文献

The spectra of the conductivity and dielectric constant of La1.87Sr0.13CuO4 cuprate have been directly measured in the frequency range of 0.3 to 1.2 THz (10–40 cm−1) and the temperature range of 5 to 300 K in the E | c polarization (the electric field vector of radiation is perpendicular to the copper-oxygen planes). Excitation has been observed in the superconducting phase, and its nature has been attributed to the transverse optical excitation of the condensate of Cooper pairs, which appears because Josephson junctions between CuO planes are modulated due to in-plane magnetic and charge stripes. Additional quasiparticle absorption of unknown origin has been detected at frequencies below ≈15 cm−1 at liquid helium temperatures.  相似文献

Magnetic properties and internal stresses of AlN(20 nm)/[CoPt(2 nm)/AlN(20 nm)]5 multilayer structure deposited at different substrate temperatures by dc magnetron sputtering have been studied. It is found that with increasing the substrate temperature from room temperature to 400 °C, in-plane magnetic anisotropy field of the film becomes smaller, and the out-of-plane magnetization becomes stronger. Especially when the film is deposited at substrate temperature of 400 °C, the out-of-plane magnetization becomes as strong as the in-plane magnetization. On the other hand, the total in-plane residual stress of the film changes gradually from compressive to tensile. The compressive intrinsic stress is generated during deposition process and decreases with increasing the substrate temperature. After annealing at high temperatures, the films show strong perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. With increasing the annealing temperature, the in-plane thermal stress also increases and becomes dominant, which is considered to result in the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy of the films.  相似文献

The amplitude of a second harmonic wave (SHW) generated from Joule heating as a heat source in organic conductor β-(BEDT-TTF)2IBr2 is analyzed as a function of the magnetic field strength and its orientation with respect to the plane of the layers. Angular oscillations of the SHW amplitude are correlated with the angular changes of in-plane conductivity that arise from the periodic dependence of charge carriers velocity on the field orientation. It was found that the nonlinear effect of wave generation leads to a shift between the position of the peaks of the wave amplitude and in-plane conductivity. This allows an important information on the parameter values of organic conductors as well as wave velocity to be obtained. Magnetic field dependence shows that the wave is not strongly attenuated with increasing field and might give insights on the interactions between the electromagnetic, temperature and acoustic oscillations. We found that these observations are completely different compared to those of linear acoustic wave generation. It has been shown that the necessary conditions for observing the nonlinear acoustic wave generation are fulfilled in a wide range of fields and angles that allow the acoustic properties of organic conductors to be studied in detail.  相似文献

The magnetic field dependent transport behaviour of Co contacted multi-wall nanotubes is investigated. A sample with three Co electrodes has been measured by two-channel method with an in-plane magnetic field. When the in-plane magnetic field is perpendicular to the tube, high positive magnetoresistance up to 30% is obtained at low temperature from 3 K to 25K and with field parallel to the tube, negative magnetoresistance up to 15% is observed only from the high resistance junction. The detailed positive and negative magnetoresistance behaviour also changes with temperature.  相似文献

The magnetic anisotropy of ferromagnetic (FM) Ni, Co, and Fe polycrystalline thin films grown on antiferromagnetic (AF) FeF(2)(110) epitaxial layers was studied, as a function of temperature, using ferromagnetic resonance. In addition to an in-plane anisotropy in the FM induced by fluctuations in the AF short-range order, a perpendicular (biquadratic) magnetic anisotropy, with an out-of-plane component, was found which increased with decreasing temperature above the AF Neél temperature (T(N) = 78.4 K). This is a surprising result given that the AF's uniaxial anisotropy axis was in the plane of the sample, but is consistent with prior experimental and theoretical work. The resonance linewidth had a strong dependence on the direction of the external magnetic field with respect to in-plane FeF(2) crystallographic directions, consistent with interface magnon scattering due to defect-induced demagnetizing fields. Below T(N), the exchange bias field H(E) measured via FMR for the Ni sample was in good agreement with H(E) determined from magnetization measurements if the perpendicular out-of-plane anisotropy was taken into account. A low field resonance line normally observed at H ≈ 0, associated with domain formation during magnetization in ferromagnets, coincided with the exchange bias field for T < T(N), indicating domain formation with the in-plane FM magnetization perpendicular to the AF easy axis. Thus, biquadratic FM-AF coupling is important at temperatures below and above T(N).  相似文献

Electron-electron interactions in half-filled high Landau levels in two-dimensional electron gases in a strong perpendicular magnetic field can lead to states with anisotropic longitudinal resistance. This longitudinal resistance is generally believed to arise from broken rotational invariance, which is indicated by charge density wave order in Hartree-Fock calculations. We use the Hartree-Fock approximation to study the influence of externally tuned Landau level mixing on the formation of interaction-induced states that break rotational invariance in two-dimensional electron and hole systems. We focus on the situation when there are two non-interacting states in the vicinity of the Fermi level and construct a Landau theory to study coupled charge density wave order that can occur as interactions are tuned and the filling or mixing are varied. We consider numerically a specific example where mixing is tuned externally through Rashba spin-orbit coupling. We calculate the phase diagram and find the possibility of ordering involving coupled striped or triangular charge density waves in the two levels. Our results may be relevant to recent transport experiments on quantum Hall nematics in which Landau level mixing plays an important role.  相似文献

In the strange metal phase of the high-Tc cuprates, it is challenging to explain the linear temperature dependence of the in-plane resistivity and the quadratic temperature dependence of the inverse Hall angle. In this paper, we investigate the temperature dependence of the in-plane resistivity and inverse Hall angle in the nonlinear electrodynamics holographic model developed in our recent work. Maxwell electrodynamics and Born-Infeld electrodynamics are considered. Both cases support a wide spectrum of temperature scalings in parameter space. For Maxwell electrodynamics, the T-linear in-plane resistivity generally dominates at low temperatures and survives into higher temperatures in a narrow strip-like manner. Meanwhile, the T-quadratic inverse Hall angle dominates at high temperatures and extends down to lower temperatures. The overlap between the T-linear in-plane resistivity and the T-quadratic inverse Hall angle, if occurs, would generally present in the intermediate temperate regime. The Born-Infeld case with a 0 is quite similar to the Maxwell case. For the Born-Infeld case with a 0, there can be a constraint on the charge density and magnetic field. Moreover, the overlap can occur for strong charge density.  相似文献

The evolution of a magnetic domain structure induced by temperature and magnetic field is reported in silicondoped yttrium iron garnet(YIG) films with perpendicular anisotropy.During a cooling-down procedure from300 K to 7K,a 20%change in the domain width is observed, with the long tails of the stripes being shortened and the twisting stripes being straightened.Under the influence of the stray field of a barium ferrite, the garnet presents an interesting domain structure, which shows an appearance of branching protrusions. The intrinsic mechanisms in these two processes are also discussed.  相似文献

We report the observation of in-plane anisotropic magnetoresistance and planar Hall effect in non-magnetic HfTe5 thin layers. The observed anisotropic magnetoresistance as well as its sign is strongly dependent on the critical resistivity anomaly temperature Tp.Below Tp,the anisotropic magnetoresistance is negative with large negative magnetoresistance. When the in-plane magnetic field is perpendicular to the current, the negative longitudinal magnetoresistance reaches its maximum. The negative longitudinal magnetoresistance effect in HfTe5 thin layers is dramatically different from that induced by the chiral anomaly as observed in Weyl and Dirac semimetals. One potential underlying origin may be attributed to the reduced spin scattering, which arises from the in-plane magnetic field driven coupling between the top and bottom surface states. Our findings provide valuable insights for the anisotropic magnetoresistance effect in topological electronic systems and the device potential of HfTe5 in spintronics and quantum sensing.  相似文献

We report observation of the unexpected negative and nonmonotonic magnetoresistance of 2D electrons in Si-MOSFET subjected to a varying in-plane magnetic field superimposed on a constant perpendicular field component. We show that this nonmonotonic magnetoresistance is irrelevant to the energy spectrum of mobile 2D electrons. We also observed variations of the density of mobile electrons with the in-plane field. We argue that both variations of the negative magnetoresistance and of the density of mobile electrons originate from the band of localized states. The latter coexist and interact with mobile electrons even at relatively high density, a factor of 1.5 higher than the critical density of the apparent metal-insulator transition.  相似文献

The critical current of high-temperature superconductor (HTS) tapes depends on temperature, magnetic field, and flux angle against the tape. Analyzing the performance of an HTS coil relies on the critical current equation, which has these dependencies. To date, the critical current equation has been obtained by fitting the measured data. However, this fitting method requires the time-consuming and laborious work of measuring the tapes. In this study, based on a new transition concept in applying a magnetic field, we show how to obtain the critical current equation, while keeping the temperature constant. From the wave function of the Cooper pair which distributes along a magnetic flux quantum, a wave function at the transition state is obtained; this yields the wave functions with perpendicular and parallel magnetic components against the tape. Combining these wave functions yields the conclusive critical current density equation. To confirm the accuracy of this equation, used Bi-2223/Ag tapes, it was compared with the measured critical current under various magnetic fields and flux angles; it was found that they agree well. The parameters of this equation can be obtained by measuring the perpendicular/parallel critical magnetic field component. This equation does not require fitting the measured data, therefore, it can be employed with any Bi-2223/Ag tape.  相似文献

Thin ferromagnetic films with in-plane magnetic anisotropy are promising materials for obtaining high microwave permeability. The paper reports a Mo¨ssbauer study of the field induced in-plane uniaxial anisotropy in electro-deposited FeCo alloy films. The FeCo alloy films were prepared by the electro-deposition method with and without an external magnetic field applied parallel to the film plane during deposition.Vibrating sample magnetometry and Mo¨ssbauer spectroscopy measurements at room temperature indicate that the film deposited in external field shows an in-plane uniaxial anisotropy with an easy direction coinciding with the external field direction and a hard direction perpendicular to the field direction, whereas the film deposited without external field does not show any in-plane anisotropy.Mo¨ssbauer spectra taken in three geometric arrangements show that the magnetic moments are almost constrained in the film plane for the film deposited with applied magnetic field. Also, the magnetic moments tend to align in the direction of the applied external magnetic field during deposition, indicating that the observed anisotropy should be attributed to directional ordering of atomic pairs.  相似文献

We have studied the magnetization of Ni dot with 50 to 70 nanometer diameter and 12 nanometer thickness using a magnetic force microscopy with an in-plane magnetic field. The Ni dots were prepared using self-assembled dot patterns with poly (styrene-b-methyl mathacrylate) diblock copolymers on Ni film and ion etching. It was found that the remanent magnetization direction of the dot was perpendicular to the plane as prepared. From the vibrating sample magnetometer measurement, a hysteresis loop was found in the perpendicular magnetization. When an in-plane external magnetic field was applied, the magnetization was rotated into a horizontal direction with low coercivity along the field direction.  相似文献

The quasi-one-dimensional organic conductor (Per)2Pt(mnt)2 exhibits a charge density wave ground state below 8 K. Magnetoresistance and magnetization measurements show that the charge density wave is suppressed with magnetic fields of order 20 T, above which a high resistance state, with a cascade of subphases, appears. This new state, tentatively identified as a field induced charge density wave, reenters a low resistance state above 40 T. The results are presented in light of theoretical work [D. Zanchi et al. Phys. Rev. B 53, 1240 (1996)]] involving field induced charge density wave ground states in high magnetic fields.  相似文献

We observe density-induced 90 degrees rotations of the anisotropy axes in transport measurements at half-filled high Landau levels in the two dimensional electron system, where stripe states are proposed ( nu = 9/2, 11/2, etc.). Using a field effect transistor, we find the transition density to be 2.9x10(11) cm(-2) at nu = 9/2. Hysteresis is observed in the vicinity of the transition. We construct a phase boundary in the filling factor magnetic field plane in the regime 4.4相似文献

Domain wall (DW) dynamics in a low-damping YBiFeGa film with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy was studied under FMR conditions. Measurements were carried out under radial expansion of magnetic bubbles in high pulsed drive fields and in an in-plane de magnetic field. A high-speed image recording technique was employed. The pattern of the dependence of DW velocity on drive field for the parts of the DW oriented parallel and perpendicular to the in-plane field was established. In all cases, this dependence contains a saturation region in which the DW velocity increases noticeably with increasing in-plane field. The experimental data obtained do not agree with theory. A possible explanation for this discrepancy is proposed. The onset of spatially periodic distortions in a moving DW is discussed.  相似文献
