The characteristics of a coherent tunable terahertz-wave source have been experimentally investigated in detail. By using a difference frequency generation as a result of stimulated Raman scattering by polaritons in MgO:LiNbO3 crystals, the signal wave was continuously tuned in the range of 1.069–1.075 μm, which corresponded to a terahertz-wave in the wide range from 227 to 104 μm (1.3 to 2.9 THz). The highest output signal pulse energy at the pumping level of 44 mJ/pulse was 1.8 mJ/pulse with 20 mW seeder injection, and the terahertz peak power was 139 mW at the wavelength of 143 μm. This source has the advantages of simple alignment, simplicity of tuning, and compactness that makes the device more attractive.  相似文献

A massive redistribution of the polariton occupancy to two specific wave vectors, zero and approximately 3.9x10(4) cm(-1), is observed under conditions of continuous wave excitation of a semiconductor microcavity. The "condensation" of the polaritons to the two specific states arises from stimulated scattering at final state occupancies of order unity. The stimulation phenomena, arising due to the bosonic character of the polariton quasiparticles, occur for conditions of resonant excitation of the lower polariton branch. High energy nonresonant excitation, as in most previous work, instead leads to conventional lasing in the vertical cavity structure.  相似文献

A model that is based on the propagation equation and coupled mode theory is introduced in order to describe stimulated Raman scattering(SRS) effects in long tapered fiber amplifiers.Based on the presented model,fiber amplifiers with uniform and long tapered fibers are theoretically and numerically simulated.It can be drawn from the results of our simulations that the long tapered fiber has the advantage in suppressing SRS when applied in fiber laser amplifiers.Our results can provide guidance in the designing of system configuration in long tapered-fiber-based fiber laser systems.  相似文献

Suppression of stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) is demonstrated in a cladding-pumped fiber amplifier. The Yb-doped amplifier fiber design incorporates a high-index ring that resonantly couples SRS wavelengths out of the gain material, thus filtering the gain. Modeling shows that fiber asymmetry plays an important role in the filtering spectrum.  相似文献

Strong temporal hysteresis effects in the population kinetics of pumped and scattered lower polaritons (LPs) have been observed in a planar semiconductor microcavity under a nanosecond-long pulsed resonant excitation (by frequency and angle) near the inflection point of the LPs' dispersion. The hysteresis loops have a complicated shape due to the interplay of two instabilities. The self-instability (bistability) of the nonlinear pumped LP is accompanied by a strong parametric instability which causes an explosive growth of the scattered LPs' population over a wide range of wave vectors. Finally, after a 30-500 ps period, a three-mode scattering pattern forms, thereby demonstrating a dynamically self-organized regime of the optical parametric oscillator. Stability is maintained by the presence of numerous weak "above-condensate" modes; the whole system therefore appears to be highly correlated.  相似文献

We demonstrate a novel way to realize room-temperature polariton parametric scattering in a one-dimensional ZnO microcavity. The polariton parametric scattering is driven by a polariton condensate, with a balanced polariton pair generated at the adjacent polariton mode. This parametric scattering is experimentally investigated by the angle-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy technique under different pump powers and it is well described by the rate equation of interacting bosons. The direct relation between the intensity of the scattered polariton signal and that of the polariton reservoir is acquired under nonresonant excitation, exhibiting the explicit nonlinear characteristic of this room-temperature polariton parametric process.  相似文献

We report the existence, and study mobility and interactions of gap polariton solitons in a microcavity with a periodic potential, where the light field is strongly coupled to excitons. Gap solitons are formed due to the interplay between the repulsive exciton-exciton interaction and cavity dispersion. In this work we demonstrate the formation of a new type of polariton on the interface between a cuprous oxide slab and a polystyrene microsphere placed on the slab. The evanescent field of the resonant whispering gallery mode (WGM) of the microsphere has a substantial gradient, and therefore effectively couples with the quadrupole 1S excitons in cuprous oxide. This evanescent polariton has a long lifetime, which is determined only by its excitonic and WGM component. The polariton lower branch has a well-pronounced minimum. This suggests that this excitation is localized and can be utilized for possible BEC. The spatial coherence of the polariton can be improved by assembling the microspheres into a linear chain.  相似文献

Strong multi-order forward stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) has been observed in the backward pumped S-band distributed fiber Raman amplifier (FRA) with tunable narrow signal source (less than 100 MHz) when the pump power of FRA reached the SBS threshold. This does not obey the theory that only weak backward SBS lines exist according to the conservation of energy and momentum and the wave vector selected rule. This is because the sound waveguide characteristic weakens the wave vector rule, and the forward transmitted sound waveguide Brillouin scattering lines are generated and amplified in FRA.When the pump power is further increased, 11 orders of SBS lines and comb-like profile are observed. For the excited line, the frequency is 197.2296 THz and the power is 0 dBm. The even order SBS lines are stronger than odd order SBS lines, the power of the 2nd and 4th order SBS lines is 1.75 dBm, which is 16 dB higher than that of the 1st and 3rd order SBS lines. The odd order SBS lines are named BrillouinRayleigh scattering lines.  相似文献

We show that the coherent interaction between microcavity polaritons and externally stimulated acoustic phonons forms a tunable polariton superlattice with a folded energy dispersion determined by the phonon population and wavelength. Under high phonon concentration, the strong confinement of the optical and excitonic polariton components in the phonon potential creates weakly coupled polariton wires with a virtually flat energy dispersion.  相似文献

In this article, we primarily review the time-resolved imaging of THz phonon polariton, which is generated by femtosecond laser in ferroelectric crystal. We pay more attention to the imaging in thin crystal, which can be used as an integration platform for terahertz-optics or terahertz-electrics. The imaging techniques, which can get quantitatively in-focus time-resolved images, are introduced in more detail. They have made enormous progress in recent years, and are powerful tools for the research of phonon polariton, optics, and THz wave. The amplification effects on forward and backward stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) lines in the forward pumped S-band distributed G652 fiber Raman amplifier (FRA) have been studied. There is a pump threshold power of Stokes backward stimulated Brillouin scattering (B-SBS) line in the forward pumped G652 FRA, it is about 1 mW. The Stokes B-SBS lines are amplified by FRA and fiber Brillouin Brillouin gain. In experimental work, the saturation gain of the first order Stokes backward SBS line is about 58 dB and the saturation gain of 25-km G652 forward FRA is about 25 dB, so the gain of FBA is about 33 dB. The forward stimulated Brillouin scattering (F-SBS) is generated and amplified in S-band G652 FRA. The stimulated threshold powers of the forward first order Stokes SBS (SB1-), second order Stokes SBS (SB2-), and third order SBS (SB3-) in the forward pumped FRA are 2.3, 1.6, and 1.6 mW,respectively. In experimental work, the saturation gains of SB1-, SB2-, and SB3- are about 38, 62, and 60 dB, respectively. The saturation Raman gain of 25-km G652 forward FRA is about 8.8 dB, so the Brillouin gains of SB1-, SB2-, and SB3- are about 29.2, 53.2, and 51.2 dB, respectively. The forward and backward cascaded SBS lines have been observed.  相似文献

Large-area surface-plasmon polariton (SPP) interference lithography is presented, which uses an attenuated total reflection-coupling mode to excite the interference of the SPPs. The interference of the SPPs causes a highly directional intensity range in a finite depth of the electric field, which is good for noncontact. Finite-difference time-domain simulations of the interference on a thin resist layer show that broad-beam illumination with a p-polarized light at a wavelength of 441 nm can produce features as small as 60 nm with high contrast, smaller than lambda/7. Our results illustrate the potential for patterning periodic structures over large areas at low cost.  相似文献

It is emphasized that in metal-dielectric layered systems with a thin metallic layer, surface plasmon-polaritons (SP) can couple with guided wave polaritons (GWP) and form new hybrid modes with properties of both SP and GWP. We present the theory of the dynamics of the polariton amplifier in the region of small polariton densities. We give an analytical solution for the polariton condensate density matrix and show that the formation of a coherent quantum state is possible. Once the condensate is formed, the coherence becomes macroscopically long living. Polariton amplifier represents, therefore, an optical memory element, where the input weak coherent signal can be amplified and kept.  相似文献

The tunability of a one-dimensional surface plasmon polariton microcavity is studied theoretically, which is formed by seven silver ridges. The magnitude of the electric-field intensity of the microcavity mode is enhanced by two orders compared with that of the perfect silver ridge array. The localization properties of the surface plasmon polariton microcavity can be tailored by adjusting the structure parameters or by changing the refractive index of the covering material.
