We study staggered flux fluctuations around the superconducting state of the SU(2) mean-field theory for the two-dimensional t-J model and their effect on the electron spectral function. The quasiparticle peaks near (pi,0),(0,pi) get strongly broadened and partially wiped out by these fluctuations while the quasiparticle peaks near the nodes of the d-wave gap are preserved over a wide parameter range. The strength of these effects is governed by an energy scale that decreases towards zero for doping x-->0 and that is related to the energy splitting between the SU(2)-related superconducting and staggered flux mean-field states.  相似文献

We present a detailed study of vortex-core spectroscopy in slightly overdoped Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+delta using a low-temperature scanning tunneling microscope. Inside the vortex core, we observe a fourfold symmetric modulation of the local density of states with an energy-independent period of (4.3 +/- 0.3)a0. Furthermore, we demonstrate that this square modulation is related to the vortex-core states which are located at +/-6 meV. Since the core-state energy is proportional to the superconducting gap magnitude , our results strongly suggest the existence of a direct relation between the superconducting state and the local electronic modulations in the vortex core.  相似文献

We use quasiparticle tunneling across La2-xCexCuO4 grain boundary junctions to probe the superconducting state and its disappearance with increasing temperature and magnetic field. A zero bias conductance peak due to zero energy surface Andreev bound states is a clear signature of the phase coherence of the superconducting state. Hence, such a peak must disappear at or below the upper critical field Bc2(T). For La2-xCexCuO4 this approach sets a lower bound for Bc2(0) approximately 25 T which is substantially higher than reported previously. The method of probing the superconducting state via Andreev bound states should also be applicable to other cuprate superconductors.  相似文献

We present scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy of the newly discovered superconductor CaC6. The tunneling conductance spectra, measured between 3 and 15 K, show a clear superconducting gap in the quasiparticle density of states. The gap function extracted from the spectra is in good agreement with the conventional BCS theory with Delta0=1.6+/-0.2 meV. The possibility of gap anisotropy and two-gap superconductivity is also discussed. In a magnetic field, direct imaging of the vortices allows us to deduce a coherence length in the ab plane xiab approximately 33 nm.  相似文献

The question of the anisotropy of the electron scattering in high temperature superconductors is investigated using high resolution angle-resolved photoemission data from Pb-doped Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 (Bi2212) with suppressed superstructure. The scattering rate of low energy electrons along two bilayer-split pieces of the Fermi surface is measured (via the quasiparticle peak width), and no increase of scattering towards the antinode (pi,0) region is observed, contradicting the expectation from Q=(pi,pi) scattering. The results put a limit on the effects of Q=(pi,pi) scattering on the electronic structure of this overdoped superconductor with still very high T(c).  相似文献

We present a first-principles calculation of the quasiparticle electronic structure of ethylene adsorbed on the dimer reconstructed Si(001)-(2x1) surface. Within the GW approximation, the self-energy corrections for the adsorbate states are found to be about 1.5 eV larger than those for the states derived from bulk silicon. The calculated quasiparticle band structure is in excellent agreement with photoemission spectra. Finally, the effects of the quasiparticle corrections on the scanning tunneling microscope images of the adsorbed molecules are shown to be important as the lowering of the C2H4 energy levels within GW strongly reduces their tunneling probability.  相似文献

Intrinsic tunneling spectroscopy in high magnetic field (H) is used for a direct test of superconducting features in the quasiparticle density of states of pure Bi2212 and intercalated HgBr2-Bi2212 high- T(c) superconductors. We were able to distinguish with great clarity two coexisting gaps: (i) the superconducting gap, which closes as H-->H(c2)(T), and (ii) the c-axis pseudogap, which does not change either with H or with T. Strikingly different H dependencies, together with previously observed different temperature dependencies of the two gaps, speak against a superconducting origin of the pseudogap.  相似文献

While Josephson-junction-like structures intrinsic to the layered cuprate high temperature superconductors offer an attractive stage for exploiting possible applications to new quantum technologies, the low energy quasiparticle excitations characteristically present in these d-wave superconductors may easily destroy the coherence required. Here we demonstrate for the first time the feasibility of macroscopic quantum tunneling in the intrinsic Josephson junctions of a high temperature superconductor Bi(2)Sr(2)CaCu(2)O(8 + delta), and find it to be characterized by a high classic-to-quantum crossover temperature and a relatively weak quasiparticle dissipation.  相似文献

High resolution angle-resolved photoemission measurements on an underdoped (La(2-x)Srx)CuO4 system show that, at energies below 70 meV, the quasiparticle peak is well defined around the (pi/2,pi/2) nodal region and disappears rather abruptly when the momentum is changed from the nodal point to the (pi,0) antinodal point along the underlying "Fermi surface." It indicates that there is an extra low energy scattering mechanism acting upon the antinodal quasiparticles. We propose that this mechanism is the scattering of quasiparticles across the nearly parallel segments of the Fermi surface near the antinodes.  相似文献

Using a low temperature scanning tunneling microscope in the spectroscopic mode, we find that the disorder in a Bi(2)Sr(2)CaCu(2)O(8+delta) thin film modifies dramatically the quasiparticle local density of states. Small, but well-defined superconducting regions, coexisting with dominating semiconducting areas, show well-pronounced gap structures, similar to those observed previously in high-quality single crystals. Surprisingly, between these two regions, the detailed shape of the quasiparticle spectrum is virtually identical to the pseudogap previously observed at temperatures T>T(c), or in the vortex core, at 4.2 K. Thus, the role of the disorder in destroying the superconducting phase is comparable to that of the magnetic field or thermal fluctuations.  相似文献

We determine the low temperature shape of the Coulomb-blockade staircase in a superconducting double-island device. For an odd number of electrons, in the ground state the intrinsic quasiparticle is bound to the tunneling contact. For a single channel contact the gap between the ground state and the continuum of excited states is of the order of the Josephson energy E(J). The temperature dependence of the Coulomb-blockade step width is nonmonotonic, with the minimal width occurring at T(i) approximately E(J)/ln(square root DeltaE(J)/delta), where Delta and delta are, respectively, the superconducting gap and mean level spacing in the island. For an even number of electrons, the Coulomb enhancement of the Josephson energy is shown to be significantly stronger than that for a single grain coupled to a lead. If the electrostatic energy favors a single broken Cooper pair, the resulting quasiparticles are bound to the contact at T=0.  相似文献

Increases of the superconducting energy gap Δ have been measured using an entirely new mechanism of enhancement. Instead of microwave or phonon irradiation, the new mechanism uses quasiparticle tunneling between two identical superconductors at voltages less than 2Δ. A decrease in the quasiparticle density accompanies the increase in Δ. This mechanism has important advantages in making quantitative comparisons with theory.  相似文献

A superconducting single-electron transistor (SSET) coupled to an anharmonic oscillator, e.g., a Josephson junction-L-C circuit, can drive the latter to a nonequilibrium photon-number distribution. By biasing the SSET at the Josephson quasiparticle cycle, cooling of the oscillator as well as a laserlike enhancement of the photon number can be achieved. Here, we show that the cutoff in the quasiparticle tunneling rate due to the superconducting gap, in combination with the anharmonicity of the oscillator, may create strongly squeezed photon-number distributions. For low dissipation in the oscillator, nearly pure Fock states can be produced.  相似文献

The high-T(c) superconductor Tl(2)Ba(2)CuO(6 + delta) is studied by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. For a very overdoped T(c) = 30 K sample, the Fermi surface consists of a single large hole pocket centered at (pi, pi) and is approaching a topological transition. Although a superconducting gap with d(x(2)-y(2)) symmetry is tentatively identified, the quasiparticle evolution with momentum and binding energy exhibits a marked departure from the behavior observed in under and optimally doped cuprates. The relevance of these findings to scattering, many-body, and quantum-critical phenomena is discussed.  相似文献

Using scanning tunneling spectroscopy, we investigated the temperature dependence of the quasiparticle density of states of overdoped Bi(2)Sr(2)CuO(6+delta) between 275 mK and 82 K. Below T(c) = 10 K, the spectra show a gap with well-defined coherence peaks at +/-Delta(p) approximately 12 meV, which disappear at T(c). Above T(c), the spectra display a clear pseudogap of the same magnitude, gradually filling up and vanishing at T(*) approximately 68 K. The comparison with Bi(2)Sr(2)CaCu(2)O(8+delta) demonstrates that the pseudogap and the superconducting gap scale with each other, providing strong evidence that they have a common origin.  相似文献

A new technique of planar tunneling spectroscopy has been developed to access the in-plane density of states of optimally doped Bi(2)Sr(2)CaCu(2)O(8) single crystals. The low energy spectrum is observed to depend on crystallographic orientation. When tunnel current is injected nominally along the Cu-Cu bond direction, a zero-bias conductance peak is observed to appear simultaneously with the onset of bulk superconductivity. These data demonstrate the existence of surface-induced states in this system and confirm the d-wave symmetry of the superconducting order parameter.  相似文献

Angle-resolved photoemission data in the superconducting state of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+delta show a kink in the dispersion along the zone diagonal, which is related via a Kramers-Kr?nig analysis to a drop in the low energy scattering rate. As one moves towards (pi,0), this kink evolves into a spectral dip. The occurrence of these anomalies in the dispersion and line shape throughout the zone indicates the presence of a new energy scale in the superconducting state.  相似文献

We have measured the low frequency elastic properties of dielectric, normal conducting and superconducting metallic glasses at audio-frequencies (f1 kHz) and temperatures down to 10 mK. Our results are discussed in the framework of the tunneling model of glasses. The major assumption of the tunneling model regarding the tunneling states with long relaxation time has been verified, but discrepancies to high frequency measurements have been found. In addition, our experiments on superconducting metallic glasses seem to indicate that the present treatment of the electron-tunneling state interaction is not sufficient.  相似文献

A search for charmed baryons decaying to D(0)p reveals two states: the Lambdac(2880)+ baryon and a previously unobserved state at a mass of [2939.8+/-1.3(stat)+/-1.0(syst)] MeV/c2 and with an intrinsic width of [17.5+/-5.2(stat)+/-5.9(syst)] MeV. Consistent and significant signals are observed for the K(-)pi(+) and K(-)pi(+)pi(-)pi(+) decay modes of the D0 in 287 fb(-1) annihilation data recorded by the BABAR detector at a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV. There is no evidence in the D+p spectrum of doubly charged partners. The mass and intrinsic width of the Lambdac(2880)+ baryon and relative yield of the two baryons are also measured.  相似文献

From detailed high-resolution measurements of the photon energy dependence of the (pi,0) superconducting-state photoemission spectrum of the bilayer Bi high-temperature superconductors, we show that the famous peak-dip-hump line shape is dominated by a superposition of spectral features originating from different electronic states which reside at different binding energies, but are each describable by essentially identical single-particle spectral functions. The previously identified bilayer-split CuO2 bands are the culprit: with the "superconducting" peak being due to the antibonding band, while the hump is mainly formed by its bonding bilayer-split counterpart.  相似文献
