We prove that if F is a holomorphic map from the open spectralunit ball of a primitive Banach algebra into itself satisfyingF(0) = 0, F' (0) = I and F(x) x = xF(x) for every x, then Fis the identity map. Using this, we prove that if is a semisimpleBanach algebra and is a primitive Banach algebra, then anyunital spectral isometry from onto which locally preservescommutativity is a Jordan morphism. Let H be an infinite-dimensional complex Hilbert space and (H)the algebra of all bounded linear operators on H. Some characterizationsare obtained of linear maps on (H) preserving essential spectralfunctions such as the intersection of left essential spectrumand right essential spectrum of operators, preserving Fredholmoperators, and preserving semi-Fredholm operators, and preservingcloseness of operator ranges. In this paper, we answer a question on derivations of densealgebras of linear operators posed by Brear and emrl. Our theoremimplies the following result: let be a complex Banach algebra,and let d and g be continuous derivations of . In this paper we study several kinds of maximal almost disjointfamilies. In the main result of this paper we show that forsuccessor cardinals , there is an unexpected connection betweeninvariants ae(), b() and a certain cardinal invariant md(+)on +. As a corollary we get for example the following result.For a successor cardinal , even assuming that < = and 2= +, the following is not provable in Zermelo–Fraenkelset theory. There is a +-cc poset which does not collapse andwhich forces a() = + < ae() = ++ = 2.
