We present a new theory for the gravitational-wave signatures of core-collapse supernovae. Previous studies identified axisymmetric rotating core collapse, core bounce, postbounce convection, and anisotropic neutrino emission as the primary processes and phases for the radiation of gravitational waves. Our results, which are based on axisymmetric Newtonian supernova simulations, indicate that the dominant emission process of gravitational waves in core-collapse supernovae may be the oscillations of the protoneutron star core. The oscillations are predominantly of mode character, are excited hundreds of milliseconds after bounce, and typically last for several hundred milliseconds. Our results suggest that even nonrotating core-collapse supernovae should be visible to current LIGO-class detectors throughout the Galaxy, and depending on progenitor structure, possibly out to megaparsec distances.  相似文献

We perform general relativistic (GR) simulations of stellar core collapse to a protoneutron star, using a microphysical equation of state (EOS) and an approximation of deleptonization. We show that for a wide range of rotation rates and profiles the gravitational-wave (GW) burst signals from the core bounce are generic, known as type I. In our systematic study, using both GR and Newtonian gravity, we identify and quantify the influence of rotation, the EOS, and deleptonization on this result. Such a generic type of signal templates will facilitate a more efficient search in current and future GW detectors of both interferometric and resonant type.  相似文献

A paradigm deeply rooted in modern numerical relativity calculations prescribes the removal of those regions of the computational domain where a physical singularity may develop. We here challenge this paradigm by performing three-dimensional simulations of the collapse of uniformly rotating stars to black holes without excision. We show that this choice, combined with suitable gauge conditions and the use of minute numerical dissipation, improves dramatically the long-term stability of the evolutions. In turn, this allows for the calculation of the waveforms well beyond what was previously possible, providing information on the black-hole ringing and setting a new mark on the present knowledge of the gravitational-wave emission from the stellar collapse to a rotating black hole.  相似文献

We present the first three-dimensional (3D) calculations of the gravitational-wave emission in the collapse of uniformly rotating stars to black holes. The initial models are polytropes which are dynamically unstable and near the mass-shedding limit. The waveforms have been extracted using a gauge-invariant approach and reflect the properties of both the initial stellar models and of newly produced black holes, being in good qualitative agreement with those computed in previous 2D simulations. The wave amplitudes, however, are about 1 order of magnitude smaller, giving, for a source at 10 kpc, a signal-to-noise ratio S/N approximately 0.25 for LIGO-VIRGO and S/N less than or approximately equal 4 for LIGO II.  相似文献

We perform 3+1 general relativistic simulations of rotating core collapse in the context of the collapsar model for long gamma-ray bursts. We employ a realistic progenitor, rotation based on results of stellar evolution calculations, and a simplified equation of state. Our simulations track self-consistently collapse, bounce, the postbounce phase, black hole formation, and the subsequent early hyperaccretion phase. We extract gravitational waves from the spacetime curvature and identify a unique gravitational wave signature associated with the early phase of collapsar formation.  相似文献

Hypermassive neutron stars (HMNSs)--equilibrium configurations supported against collapse by rapid differential rotation--are possible transient remnants of binary neutron-star mergers. Using newly developed codes for magnetohydrodynamic simulations in dynamical spacetimes, we are able to track the evolution of a magnetized HMNS in full general relativity for the first time. We find that secular angular momentum transport due to magnetic braking and the magnetorotational instability results in the collapse of an HMNS to a rotating black hole, accompanied by a gravitational wave burst. The nascent black hole is surrounded by a hot, massive torus undergoing quasistationary accretion and a collimated magnetic field. This scenario suggests that HMNS collapse is a possible candidate for the central engine of short gamma-ray bursts.  相似文献

The first gravitational wave (GW) – gamma-ray burst (GRB) association, GW170817/GRB 170817A, had an offset in time, with the GRB trigger time delayed by ~1.7 s with respect to the merger time of the GW signal. We generally discuss the astrophysical origin of the delay time, Δt, of GW-GRB associations within the context of compact binary coalescence (CBC) – short GRB (sGRB) associations and GW burst – long GRB (lGRB) associations. In general, the delay time should include three terms, the time to launch a clean (relativistic) jet, Δtjet; the time for the jet to break out from the surrounding medium, Δtbo; and the time for the jet to reach the energy dissipation and GRB emission site, ΔtGRB. For CBC-sGRB associations, Δtjet and Δtbo are correlated, and the final delay can be from 10 ms to a few seconds. For GWB-lGRB associations, Δtjet and Δtbo are independent. The latter is at least ~10 s, so that Δt of these associations is at least this long. For certain jet launching mechanisms of lGRBs, Δt can be minutes or even hours long due to the extended engine waiting time to launch a jet. We discuss the cases of GW170817/GRB 170817A and GW150914/GW150914-GBM within this theoretical framework and suggest that the delay times of future GW/GRB associations will shed light into the jet launching mechanisms of GRBs.  相似文献

The observed special features of SN 1987A may indicate that this supernova has a quickly rotating progenitor formed as the result of the evolution of a close binary system. The possibility for the formation of quickly rotating collapsing cores of massive stars and the frequency of their formation are studied here within the standard scenario of the evolution of massive binary systems. Possible evolutionary channels of the production of binary black holes whose parameters (masses and spins) are determined from the LIGO observation of gravitational-wave signals (GW150914, LTV151012, GW151226, and GW170104) are analyzed.  相似文献

Systems in which the point spread function (PSF) is a rotating beam have increasing use in three-dimensional (3D) microscopy and depth estimation. We analyze in several ways the 3D optical transfer function (OTF) of Gauss Laguerre modes and rotating beams. This is based on analysis of 3D OTFs of general aperture functions. Consequently, we suggest a criterion for depth resolution based on an effective cutoff of the axial frequency response. This criterion can be used to optimize PSFs explicitly and directly, to maximize axial resolution.  相似文献

The two-dimensional (2D) Ruddlesden-Popper-type perovskites, possessing tunable bandgap, narrow light emission, strong quantum confinement effect, as well as a simple preparation method, are identified as a new generation of candidate materials for efficient light-emitting diodes. However, the preparation of high-quality quasi-2D perovskite films is still a challenge currently, such as the severe mixing of phases and a high density of defects within the films, impeding the further promotion of device performance. Here, we prepared the quasi-2D PEA2MAn-1PbnBr3n+1 perovskite films by a modified spin-coating method, and the phases with large bandgap were effectively suppressed by the vacuum evaporation treatment. We systematically investigated the optical properties and stability of the optimized films, and the photoluminescence (PL) quantum yield of the treated films was enhanced from 23% to 45%. We also studied the emission mechanisms by temperature-dependent PL spectra. Moreover, the stability of films against moisture, ultraviolet light, and heat was also greatly improved.  相似文献

We demonstrate diode laser modules with high spectral radiance larger than 1 GW/cm2/sr/nm in the visible spectral range. These highly brilliant laser light sources enable the development of next-generation 3D displays. About 1W output power from small-sized modules was achieved at 635 nm by direct diode laser emission and at 530 nm using single pass second harmonic generation (SHG) of a highly brilliant near-infrared laser diode.  相似文献

The thermonuclear explosion of a C/O white dwarf as a Type Ia supernova (SN Ia) generates a kinetic energy comparable to that released by a massive star during a SN II event. Current observations and theoretical models have established that SNe Ia are asymmetric, and therefore--like SNe II--potential sources of gravitational wave (GW) radiation. We perform the first detailed calculations of the GW emission for a SN Ia of any type within the single-degenerate channel. The gravitationally confined detonation (GCD) mechanism predicts a strongly polarized GW burst in the frequency band around 1 Hz. Third-generation spaceborne GW observatories currently in planning may be able to detect this predicted signal from SNe Ia at distances up to 1 Mpc. If observable, GWs may offer a direct probe into the first few seconds of the SNe Ia detonation.

The mechanisms and structural elements of instability whose evolution results in the occurrence of the collapse are studied in the scope of the rotating shallow water model with a horizontally nonuniform density. The diagram stability based on the integral collapse criterion is suggested to explain system behavior in the space of constants of motion. Analysis of the instability shows that two collapse scenarios are possible. One scenario implies anisotropic collapse during which the contact area of a collapsing drop-like fragment with the bottom contracts into a rotating segment. The other implies isotropic contraction of the area into a point.  相似文献

This article deals with the gravitational lensing (GL) of gravitational waves (GW). We compute the increase in the number of detected GW events due to GL. First, we check that geometrical optics is valid for the GW frequency range on which Earth-based detectors are sensitive, and that this is also partially true for what concerns the future space-based interferometer LISA. To infer this result, both the diffraction parameter and a cut-off frequency are computed. Then, the variation in the number of GW signals is estimated in the general case, and applied to some lens models: point mass lens and singular isothermal sphere (SIS profile). An estimation of the magnification factor has also been done for the softened isothermal sphere and for the King profile. The results appear to be strongly model-dependent, but in all cases the increase in the number of detected GW signals is negligible. The use of time delays among images is also investigated.  相似文献

A general class of solutions of Einstein's equation for a slowly rotating fluid source, with supporting internal pressure, is matched using Lichnerowicz junction conditions, to the Kerr metric up to and including first order terms in angular speed parameter. It is shown that the match applies to any previously known non-rotating fluid source made to rotate slowly for which a zero pressure boundary surface exists. The method is applied to the dust source of Robertson-Walker and in outline to an interior solution due to McVittie describing gravitational collapse. The applicability of the method to additional examples is transparent. The differential angular velocity of the rotating systems is determined and theinduced rotation of local inertial frame is exhibited.  相似文献

We investigate the spin interaction and the gravitational radiation thermally allowed in a head-on collision of two rotating Hayward black holes. The Hayward black hole is a regular black hole in a modified Einstein equation, and hence it can be an appropriate model to describe the extent to which the regularity effect in the near-horizon region affects the interaction and the radiation. If one black hole is assumed to be considerably smaller than the other, the potential of the spin interaction can be analytically obtained and is dependent on the alignment of angular momenta of the black holes. For the collision of massive black holes, the gravitational radiation is numerically obtained as the upper bound by using the laws of thermodynamics. The effect of the Hayward black hole tends to increase the radiation energy, but we can limit the effect by comparing the radiation energy with the gravitational waves GW150914 and GW151226.  相似文献

We study the dynamics of a two-level trapped ion in a standing wave electromagnetic field in two-dimensional (2D) noncommutative spaces in the Lamb-Dicke regime under the rotating wave approximation. We obtain the explicit analytical expressions for the energy spectra, energy eigenstates, unitary time evolution operator, atomic inversion, and phonon number operators. The Rabi oscillations, the collapse, and revivals in the average atomic inversion and the average phonon number are explicitly shown to contain the information of the parameter of the space noncommutativity, which sheds light on proposing new schemes based on the dynamics of trapped ion to test the noncommutativity.  相似文献

The establishment of a possible connection between neutrino emission and gravitational-wave (GW) bursts is important to our understanding of the physical processes that occur when black holes or neutron stars merge. In the Daya Bay experiment, using the data collected from December 2011 to August 2017, a search was performed for electron-antineutrino signals that coincided with detected GW events, including GW150914, GW151012, GW151226, GW170104, GW170608, GW170814, and GW170817. We used three time windows of ±10, ±500, and ±1000 s relative to the occurrence of the GW events and a neutrino energy range of 1.8 to 100 MeV to search for correlated neutrino candidates. The detected electron-antineutrino candidates were consistent with the expected background rates for all the three time windows. Assuming monochromatic spectra, we found upper limits (90% confidence level) of the electron-antineutrino fluence of (1.13 ? 2.44)×1011 cm?2 at 5 MeV to 8.0×107 cm?2 at 100 MeV for the three time windows. Under the assumption of a Fermi-Dirac spectrum, the upper limits were found to be (5.4 ? 7.0)×109 cm?2 for the three time windows.  相似文献

We demonstrate by a large set of merger simulations for symmetric binary neutron stars (NSs) that there is a tight correlation between the frequency peak of the postmerger gravitational-wave (GW) emission and the physical properties of the nuclear equation of state (EoS), e.g., expressed by the radius of the maximum-mass Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkhoff configuration. Therefore, a single measurement of the peak frequency of the postmerger GW signal will constrain the NS EoS significantly. For optimistic merger-rate estimates a corresponding detection with Advanced LIGO is expected to happen within an operation time of roughly a year.  相似文献
