Li‐O2 batteries are promising energy storage systems due to their ultra‐high theoretical capacity. However, most Li‐O2 batteries are based on the reduction/oxidation of Li2O2 and involve highly reactive superoxide and peroxide species that would cause serious degradation of cathodes, especially carbon‐based materials. It is important to explore lithium‐oxygen reactions and find new Li‐O2 chemistry which can restrict or even avoid the negative influence of superoxide/peroxide species. Here, inspired by enzyme‐catalyzed oxygen reduction/oxidation reactions, we introduce a copper(I) complex 3 N‐CuI (3 N=1,4,7‐trimethyl‐1,4,7‐triazacyclononane) to Li‐O2 batteries and successfully modulate the reaction pathway to a moderate one on reversible cleavage/formation of O?O bonds. This work demonstrates that the reaction pathways of Li‐O2 batteries could be modulated by introducing an appropriate soluble catalyst, which is another powerful choice to construct better Li‐O2 batteries.  相似文献

Ether‐based electrolytes are commonly used in Li–O2 batteries (LOBs) because of their relatively high stability. But they are still prone to be attacked by superoxides or singlet oxygen via hydrogen abstract reactions, which leads to performance decaying during long‐term operation. Herein we propose a methylated cyclic ether, 2,2,4,4,5,5‐hexamethyl‐1,3‐dioxolane (HMD), as a stable electrolyte solvent for LOBs. Such a compound does not contain any hydrogen atoms on the alpha‐carbon of the ether, and thus avoids hydrogen abstraction reactions. As the result, this solvent exhibits excellent stability with the presence of superoxide or singlet oxygen. In addition the CO2 evolution during charge process is prohibited. The LOB with HMD‐based electrolyte was able to run up to 157 cycles, 4 times more than with 1,3‐dioxolane (DOL) or 1,2‐dimethoxyethane (DME) based electrolytes.  相似文献

The non‐aqueous Li–air (O2) battery has attracted intensive interest because it can potentially store far more energy than today′s batteries. Presently Li–O2 batteries suffer from parasitic reactions owing to impurities, found in almost all non‐aqueous electrolytes. Impurities include residual protons and protic compounds that can react with oxygen species, such as the superoxide (O2?), a reactive, one‐electron reduction product of oxygen. To avoid the parasitic reactions, it is crucial to have a fundamental understanding of the conditions under which reactive oxygen species are generated in non‐aqueous electrolytes. Herein we report an in situ spectroscopic study of oxygen reduction on gold in a dimethyl sulfoxide electrolyte containing phenol as a proton source. It is shown directly that O2?, not HO2, is the first stable intermediate during the oxygen reduction process to hydrogen peroxide. The unusual stability of O2? is explained using density functional theory (DFT) calculations.  相似文献

Aprotic lithium–oxygen (Li–O2) batteries have attracted considerable attention in recent years owing to their outstanding theoretical energy density. A major challenge is their poor reversibility caused by degradation reactions, which mainly occur during battery charge and are still poorly understood. Herein, we show that singlet oxygen (1Δg) is formed upon Li2O2 oxidation at potentials above 3.5 V. Singlet oxygen was detected through a reaction with a spin trap to form a stable radical that was observed by time‐ and voltage‐resolved in operando EPR spectroscopy in a purpose‐built spectroelectrochemical cell. According to our estimate, a lower limit of approximately 0.5 % of the evolved oxygen is singlet oxygen. The occurrence of highly reactive singlet oxygen might be the long‐overlooked missing link in the understanding of the electrolyte degradation and carbon corrosion reactions that occur during the charging of Li–O2 cells.  相似文献

Li+‐conducting oxides are considered better ceramic fillers than Li+‐insulating oxides for improving Li+ conductivity in composite polymer electrolytes owing to their ability to conduct Li+ through the ceramic oxide as well as across the oxide/polymer interface. Here we use two Li+‐insulating oxides (fluorite Gd0.1Ce0.9O1.95 and perovskite La0.8Sr0.2Ga0.8Mg0.2O2.55) with a high concentration of oxygen vacancies to demonstrate two oxide/poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO)‐based polymer composite electrolytes, each with a Li+ conductivity above 10?4 S cm?1 at 30 °C. Li solid‐state NMR results show an increase in Li+ ions (>10 %) occupying the more mobile A2 environment in the composite electrolytes. This increase in A2‐site occupancy originates from the strong interaction between the O2? of Li‐salt anion and the surface oxygen vacancies of each oxide and contributes to the more facile Li+ transport. All‐solid‐state Li‐metal cells with these composite electrolytes demonstrate a small interfacial resistance with good cycling performance at 35 °C.  相似文献

The catalytic oxidation of alkenes by most iron porphyrins using a variety of oxygen sources, but generally not dioxygen, yields the epoxide with minor quantities of other products. The turnover numbers for these catalysts are modest, ranging from a few hundred to a few thousand depending on the porphyrin structure, axial ligands, and other reaction conditions. Halogenation of substituents increases the activity of the metalloporphyrin catalyst and/or makes it more robust to oxidative degradation. Oxidation of cyclohexene by 5,10,15,20‐tetrakis‐(2,3,4,5,6‐pentafluorophenyl)porphyrinato iron(III), ([FeIII(tppf20)]) and H2O2 is typical of the latter: the epoxide is 99 % of the product and turnover numbers are about 350. 1 – 4 Herein, we report that dynamic organic nanoparticles (ONPs) of [FeIII(tppf20)] with a diameter of 10 nm, formed by host–guest solvent methods, catalytically oxidize cyclohexene with O2 to yield only 2‐cyclohexene‐1‐one and 2‐cyclohexene‐1‐ol with approximately 10‐fold greater turnover numbers compared to the non‐aggregated metalloporphyrin in acetonitrile/methanol. These ONPs facilitate a greener reaction because the reaction solvent is 89 % water and O2 is the oxidant in place of synthetic oxygen sources. This reactivity is unexpected because the metalloporphyrins are in close proximity and oxidative degradation of the catalyst should be enhanced, thus causing a significant decrease in catalytic turnovers. The allylic products suggest a different oxidative mechanism compared to that of the solvated metalloporphyrins. These results illustrate the unique properties of some ONPs relative to the component molecules or those attached to supports.  相似文献

The reactivity of the sulfur‐containing nucleoside 4‐thio‐(2′‐deoxy)‐thymidine usually abbreviated as 4‐thio‐thymidine, (S4‐TdR) under Fenton conditions, ie, in the presence of H2O2 and catalytic amounts of Fe(II), was investigated by UV‐vis spectroscopy and electrospray ionization single and tandem mass spectrometry (ESI‐MS and MS/MS). S4‐TdR hydroxylated on the S atom was found to be a key reaction intermediate, ultimately leading to (2′‐deoxy)‐thymidine usually abbreviated as thymidine, (TdR) as the main reaction product. This finding was in accordance with the outcome of the reaction between S4‐TdR and H2O2, previously investigated in our laboratory. On the other hand, the additional presence of ?OH radicals, induced by the Fe(II)/H2O2 combination, led to the increased generation of another interesting S4‐TdR product, already observed after its reaction with H2O2 alone, ie, the covalent dimer including a S? S bridge between two S4‐TdR molecules. More importantly, multihydroxylated derivatives of S4‐TdR and TdR were detected as peculiar products obtained under Fenton conditions. Among them, a product bearing an OH group both on the methyl group linked to the thymine ring and on the C5 atom of the ring was found to prevail. The results obtained during this study, integrated by those found previously in our laboratory, indicate 4‐thiothymidine as a promising molecular probe for the recognition, through a careful characterization of its reaction products, of the prevailing species among reactive oxygen species (ROS) corresponding to singlet‐state oxygen, hydrogen peroxide, and hydroxylic radical.  相似文献

The lithium (Li)–air battery has an ultrahigh theoretical specific energy, however, even in pure oxygen (O2), the vulnerability of conventional organic electrolytes and carbon cathodes towards reaction intermediates, especially O2?, and corrosive oxidation and crack/pulverization of Li metal anode lead to poor cycling stability of the Li‐air battery. Even worse, the water and/or CO2 in air bring parasitic reactions and safety issues. Therefore, applying such systems in open‐air environment is challenging. Herein, contrary to previous assertions, we have found that CO2 can improve the stability of both anode and electrolyte, and a high‐performance rechargeable Li–O2/CO2 battery is developed. The CO2 not only facilitates the in situ formation of a passivated protective Li2CO3 film on the Li anode, but also restrains side reactions involving electrolyte and cathode by capturing O2?. Moreover, the Pd/CNT catalyst in the cathode can extend the battery lifespan by effectively tuning the product morphology and catalyzing the decomposition of Li2CO3. The Li–O2/CO2 battery achieves a full discharge capacity of 6628 mAh g?1 and a long life of 715 cycles, which is even better than those of pure Li–O2 batteries.  相似文献

Density functional calculations yield energy barriers for H abstraction by oxygen radical sites in Li‐doped MgO that are much smaller (12±6 kJ mol?1) than the barriers inferred from different experimental studies (80–160 kJ mol?1). This raises further doubts that the Li+O.? site is the active site as postulated by Lunsford. From temperature‐programmed oxidative coupling reactions of methane (OCM), we conclude that the same sites are responsible for the activation of CH4 on both Li‐doped MgO and pure MgO catalysts. For a MgO catalyst prepared by sol–gel synthesis, the activity proved to be very different in the initial phase of the OCM reaction and in the steady state. This was accompanied by substantial morphological changes and restructuring of the terminations as transmission electron microscopy revealed. Further calculations on cluster models showed that CH4 binds heterolytically on Mg2+O2? sites at steps and corners, and that the homolytic release of methyl radicals into the gas phase will happen only in the presence of O2.  相似文献

Degradation of methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) with Fe2+/H2O2 was studied by purge-and-trap gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. MTBE was degraded 99% within 120 min under optimum conditions. MTBE was firstly degraded rapidly based on a Fe2+/H2O2 reaction and then relatively slower based on a Fe3+/H2O2 reaction. The dissolved oxygen decreased rapidly in the Fe2+/H2O2 reaction stage, but showed a slow increase in the Fe3+/H2O2 reaction stage. tert-Butyl formate, tert-butyl alcohol, methyl acetate and acetone were identified as primary degradation products by mass spectrometry. A preliminary reaction mechanism involving two different pathways for the degradation of MTBE with Fe2+/H2O2 was proposed. This study suggests that degradation of MTBE can be achieved using the Fe2+/H2O2 process.  相似文献

The limited triple‐phase boundaries (TPBs) in solid‐state cathodes (SSCs) and high resistance imposed by solid electrolytes (SEs) make the achievement of high‐performance all‐solid‐state lithium‐oxygen (ASS Li‐O2) batteries a challenge. Herein, an adjustable‐porosity plastic crystal electrolyte (PCE) has been fabricated by employing a thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) technique to overcome the above tricky issues. The SSC produced through the in‐situ introduction of the porous PCE on the surface of the active material, facilitates the simultaneous transfer of Li+/e?, as well as ensures fast flow of O2, forming continuous and abundant TPBs. The high Li+ conductivity, softness, and adhesion of the dense PCE significantly reduce the battery resistance to 115 Ω. As a result, the ASS Li‐O2 battery based on this adjustable‐porosity PCE exhibits superior performances with high specific capacity (5963 mAh g?1), good rate capability, and stable cycling life up to 130 cycles at 32 °C. This novel design and exciting results could open a new avenue for ASS Li‐O2 batteries.  相似文献

A new Li salt with views to success in electrolytes is synthesized in excellent yields from lithium borohydride with excess 2,2,2‐trifluorethanol (HOTfe) in toluene and at least two equivalents of 1,2‐dimethoxyethane (DME). The salt Li[B(OTfe)4] is obtained in multigram scale without impurities, as long as DME is present during the reaction. It is characterized by heteronuclear magnetic resonance and vibrational spectroscopy (IR and Raman), has high thermal stability (Tdecomposition>271 °C, DSC) and shows long‐term stability in water. The concentration‐dependent electrical conductivity of Li[B(OTfe)4] is measured in water, acetone, EC/DMC, EC/DMC/DME, ethyl acetate and THF at RT In DME (0.8 mol L ?1) it is 3.9 mS cm?1, which is satisfactory for the use in lithium‐sulfur batteries (LiSB). Cyclic voltammetry confirms the electrochemical stability of Li[B(OTfe)4] in a potential range of 0 to 4.8 V vs. Li/Li+. The performance of Li[B(OTfe)4] as conducting salt in a 0.2 mol L ?1 solution in 1:1 wt % DME/DOL is investigated in LiSB test cells. After the 40th cycle, 86 % of the capacity remains, with a coulombic efficiency of around 97 % for each cycle. This indicates a considerable performance improvement for LiSB, if compared to the standard Li[NTf2]/DOL/DME electrolyte system.  相似文献

The reactivity of metal oxide clusters toward hydrocarbon molecules can be changed, tuned, or controlled by doping. Cerium‐doped vanadium cluster cations CeV2O7+ are generated by laser ablation, mass‐selected by a quadrupole mass filter, and then reacted with C2H4 in a linear ion trap reactor. The reaction is characterized by a reflectron time‐of‐flight mass spectrometer. Three types of reaction channels are observed: 1) single oxygen‐atom transfer , 2) double oxygen‐atom transfer , and 3) C?C bond cleavage. This study provides the first bimetallic oxide cluster ion, CeV2O7+, which gives rise to C?C bond cleavage of ethene. Neither CexOy± nor VxOy± alone possess the necessary topological and electronic properties to bring about such a reaction.  相似文献

Singlet oxygen (1O2) causes a major fraction of the parasitic chemistry during the cycling of non‐aqueous alkali metal‐O2 batteries and also contributes to interfacial reactivity of transition‐metal oxide intercalation compounds. We introduce DABCOnium, the mono alkylated form of 1,4‐diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane (DABCO), as an efficient 1O2 quencher with an unusually high oxidative stability of ca. 4.2 V vs. Li/Li+. Previous quenchers are strongly Lewis basic amines with too low oxidative stability. DABCOnium is an ionic liquid, non‐volatile, highly soluble in the electrolyte, stable against superoxide and peroxide, and compatible with lithium metal. The electrochemical stability covers the required range for metal–O2 batteries and greatly reduces 1O2 related parasitic chemistry as demonstrated for the Li–O2 cell.  相似文献

The deployment of high‐energy‐density lithium‐metal batteries has been greatly impeded by Li dendrite growth and safety concerns originating from flammable liquid electrolytes. Herein, we report a stable quasi‐solid‐state Li metal battery with a deep eutectic solvent (DES)‐based self‐healing polymer (DSP) electrolyte. This electrolyte was fabricated in a facile manner by in situ copolymerization of 2‐(3‐(6‐methyl‐4‐oxo‐1,4‐dihydropyrimidin‐2‐yl)ureido)ethyl methacrylate (UPyMA) and pentaerythritol tetraacrylate (PETEA) monomers in a DES‐based electrolyte containing fluoroethylene carbonate (FEC) as an additive. The well‐designed DSP electrolyte simultaneously possesses non‐flammability, high ionic conductivity and electrochemical stability, and dendrite‐free Li plating. When applied in Li metal batteries with a LiMn2O4 cathode, the DSP electrolyte effectively suppressed manganese dissolution from the cathode and enabled high‐capacity and a long lifespan at room and elevated temperatures.  相似文献

The vacuum‐UV (VUV)‐induced conversion of commercially available poly(1,1‐dimethylsilazane‐co‐1‐methylsilazane) into methyl‐Si‐O‐Si networks was studied using UV sources at wavelengths around 172, 185, and 222 nm, respectively. Time‐of‐flight secondary ion mass spectroscopy (TOF‐SIMS), X‐ray photo electron spectroscopy (XPS), and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) measurements, as well as kinetic investigations, were carried out to elucidate the degradation process. First‐order kinetics were found for the photolytically induced decomposition of the Si? NH‐Si network, the subsequent formation of the methyl‐Si‐O‐Si network and the concomitant degradation of the Si? CH3 bond, which were additionally independent of the photon energy above a threshold of about 5.5 eV (225 nm). The kinetics of these processes were, however, dependent on the dose actually absorbed by the layer and, in the case of Si‐O‐Si formation, additionally on the oxygen concentration. The release of ammonia and methane accompanied the conversion process. Quantum‐chemical calculations on methyl substituted cyclotetrasilazanes as model compounds substantiate the suggested reaction scheme. Layers <100 nm in thickness based on mixtures of poly(1,1‐dimethylsilazane‐co‐1‐methylsilazane) and perhydropolysilazane (PHPS) were coated onto polyethylene terephthalate (PET) foils by a continuous roll to roll process and cured by VUV irradiation by using wavelengths <200 nm and investigated for their O2 and water vapor‐barrier properties. It was found that the resulting layers displayed oxygen and water vapor transmission rates (OTR and WVTR, respectively) of <1 cm3 m?2 d?1 bar?1 and <4 g m?2 d?1, respectively.  相似文献

Oxygen‐rich scandium cluster anions ScO3–5? are prepared by laser ablation and allowed to react with n‐butane in a fast‐flow reactor. A time‐of‐flight mass spectrometer is used to detect the cluster distribution before and after the reactions. The ScO3? and ScO4? clusters can react with n‐butane to produce ScO3H?, ScO3H2?, and ScO4H?, while the more oxygen‐rich cluster ScO5? is inert. The experiment suggests that unreactive cluster isomers of ScO3? and ScO4? are also present in the cluster source. Density functional theory and ab initio methods are used to calculate the structures and reaction mechanisms of the clusters. The theoretical results indicate that the unreactive and reactive cluster isomers of ScO3,4? contain peroxides (O22?) and oxygen‐centered radicals (O.?), respectively. The mechanisms and energetics for conversion of unreactive O22? to reactive O.? species are also theoretically studied.  相似文献

Investigations on the reactivity of atomic clusters have led to the identification of the elementary steps involved in catalytic CO oxidation, a prototypical reaction in heterogeneous catalysis. The atomic oxygen species O.? and O2? bonded to early‐transition‐metal oxide clusters have been shown to oxidize CO. This study reports that when an Au2 dimer is incorporated within the cluster, the molecular oxygen species O22? bonded to vanadium can be activated to oxidize CO under thermal collision conditions. The gold dimer was doped into Au2VO4? cluster ions which then reacted with CO in an ion‐trap reactor to produce Au2VO3? and then Au2VO2?. The dynamic nature of gold in terms of electron storage and release promotes CO oxidation and O? O bond reduction. The oxidation of CO by atomic clusters in this study parallels similar behavior reported for the oxidation of CO by supported gold catalysts.  相似文献

High‐energy‐density Li metal batteries suffer from a short lifespan under practical conditions, such as limited lithium, high loading cathode, and lean electrolytes, owing to the absence of appropriate solid electrolyte interphase (SEI). Herein, a sustainable SEI was designed rationally by combining fluorinated co‐solvents with sustained‐release additives for practical challenges. The intrinsic uniformity of SEI and the constant supplements of building blocks of SEI jointly afford to sustainable SEI. Specific spatial distributions and abundant heterogeneous grain boundaries of LiF, LiNxOy, and Li2O effectively regulate uniformity of Li deposition. In a Li metal battery with an ultrathin Li anode (33 μm), a high‐loading LiNi0.5Co0.2Mn0.3O2 cathode (4.4 mAh cm?2), and lean electrolytes (6.1 g Ah?1), 83 % of initial capacity retains after 150 cycles. A pouch cell (3.5 Ah) demonstrated a specific energy of 340 Wh kg?1 for 60 cycles with lean electrolytes (2.3 g Ah?1).  相似文献

In superoxide batteries based on O2/O2? redox chemistry, identifying an electrolyte to stabilize both the alkali metal and its superoxide remains challenging owing to their reactivity towards the electrolyte components. Bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide (FSI?) has been recognized as a “magic anion” for passivating alkali metals. The KFSI–dimethoxyethane electrolyte passivates the potassium metal anode by cleavage of S?F bonds and the formation of a KF‐rich solid–electrolyte interphase (SEI). However, the KFSI salt is chemically unstable owing to nucleophilic attack by superoxide and/or hydroxide species. On the other hand, potassium bis(trifluorosulfonyl)imide (KTFSI) is stable to KO2, but results in mossy potassium deposits and irreversible plating and stripping. To circumvent this dilemma, we developed an artificial SEI for the metal anode and thus long‐cycle‐life K–O2 batteries. This study will guide the development of stable electrolytes and artificial SEIs for metal–O2 batteries.  相似文献
