Amphiphilic random copolymers based on vinyl ether of ethylene glycol and vinyl butyl ether as well as their polycomplexes with poly(acrylic acid) were studied as polymeric reagents for the stabilization of water/n‐hexane emulsions. The emulsion stability strongly depended on the content of vinyl butyl ether in the copolymers as well as their concentration in solution. The more hydrophobic copolymers stabilized emulsions more efficiently. An increase in the temperature and the addition of inorganic salts reduced the emulsion lifetime. The formation of interpolymer complexes between the copolymers and poly(acrylic acid) significantly influenced the stability of the emulsions. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Gamma-radiation grafting of vinyl ether of monoethanolamine and vinyl ether of ethyleneglycol (VEEG) on polyethylene films has been studied from binary monomer mixtures. The effect of co-monomer composition and total exposure radiation dose on the grafting process is investigated. A combination of potentiometric and gravimetric techniques is applied to determine the grafting degree of each monomer in the final graft copolymer. The presence of more active monomer VEEG in the mixture was found to enhance the grafting of both monomers because the increasing of copolymerization rate which in turn increases the total grafting degree. The modification of the hydrophilic properties of the graft copolymer is studied by examining the grafted films for water- and copper (II) ions uptake.  相似文献

A series of superabsorbent hydrogels were prepared from carrageenan and partially neutralized acrylic acid by gamma irradiation at room temperature. The gel fraction, swelling kinetics and the equilibrium degree of swelling (EDS) of the hydrogels were studied. It was found that the incorporation of even 1% carrageenan (sodium salt) increases the EDS of the hydrogels from 320 to 800 g/g. Thermal analysis were carried out to determine the amount of free water and bound water in the hydrogels. Under optimum conditions, poly(acrylic acid)–carrageenan hydrogels with high gel fraction (80%) and very high EDS (800 g/g) were prepared gamma radiolytically from aqueous solution containing 15% partially neutralized acrylic acid and 1–5% carrageenan. The hydrogels were also found to be sensitive to the pH and the ionic strength of the medium.  相似文献

The complex formation of poly-2-[(methacryloyloxy)-ethyl]trimethylammonium chloride (PMADQUAT) with poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) of different molecular weights has been studied in aqueous solutions by potentiometric, viscometric, turbidimetric and FTIR spectroscopic methods. The formation of insoluble non-stoichiometric polyelectrolyte complexes has been shown. The stability of polyelectrolyte complexes in solutions of different pH and ionic strength has been evaluated. The formation of polyelectrolyte complexes between hydrogels of PMADQUAT and linear PAA of different molecular weights has been studied. It was shown that the molecular weight of PAA considerably affects the kinetics of interaction as well as the final state of gel-polymer complex.  相似文献

 The complex formation reactions of poly(vinyl ether of diethylene glycol) as well as vinyl ether of diethylene glycol–vinyl butyl ether copolymers with poly(acrylic acid) have been studied in aqueous and alcohol solutions. The formation of interpolymer complexes which were stabilized by hydrogen bonds was shown. The effects of molecular weight of poly(acrylic acid) and the nature of the nonionic polymer on the composition and stability of interpolymer complexes were clarified. The critical pH values of complexation were determined for different systems with various molecular weights and hydrophobic–hydrophilic balances. The stability of the interpolymer complexes formed in aqueous and alcohol solutions with respect to dimethylformamide addition was evaluated. This study is concerned with the preparation of novel composite systems in which the hydrogel of crosslinked poly(acrylic acid) is a matrix and polypyrrole is an electroconducting component. The effects of synthesis conditions on the structure of the composite systems, their ability to swell in water, and mechanical characteristics are studied. The proposed synthesis procedure allows production of a bulk electroconducting phase of polypyrrole in the hydrogel matrix. The effect of crosslink density of hydrogel on the character of polypyrrole distribution in the matrix is studied. The above composites combine the electrical characteristics of polypyrrole with high elasticity and the ability to repeatedly swell the crosslinked poly(acrylic acid).  相似文献

Self‐association in aqueous solution of amphiphilic poly(acrylic acid)‐b‐poly(propylene oxide)‐b‐poly(acrylic acid) (PAA‐b‐PPO‐b‐PAA) copolymers having various outer PAA block lengths are presented. These copolymers show two thermosensitive behaviors. The first one, due to hydrogen bonds between PAA and PPO resulting in large aggregates, was observed by visible spectroscopy. The second one, due to the association of PPO middle block into aggregates, was evidenced by dynamic light scattering and pyrene fluorescence. These critical temperatures both depend on the ionization and the length of PAA blocks. The characterization of the aggregates above the critical aggregation concentration by fluorescence quenching experiments showed a very low aggregation number corresponding to dimers or trimers association depending on the conditions. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The addition of dialkyl (R = Me or Et) carbonates to poly(oxyethylene)-based solid polymeric electrolytes resulted in enhanced ionic conductivities. Relatively high conductivities in lithium batteries with solutions of lithium salts in di(oligooxyethylene) carbonates such as R( OCH2 CH2 )nOC(O) O ( CH2CH2O )mR (R = Et, n = 1, 2, or 3, m = 0, 1, 2, or 3) and related carbonates were obtained. In this respect, related comb-shaped poly(oligooxyethylene carbonate) vinyl ethers of the type  CH2CH(OR) were prepared [R = ( OCH2 CH2 )nOC(O) O ( CH2CH2O )mR′; (1) n = 2 or 3, m = 0, R′ = Et; (2) n = 2 or 3; m = 3, R′ = Me]. The direct preparation of derived target polymers of this class by polymerization of the corresponding vinyl ether-type monomers could not be achieved because of a rapid in situ decarboxylative decomposition of these monomers (as formed) during the final step of their synthesis. Instead, a prepolymer was prepared by a living cationic polymerization of CH2CH (OCH2CH2 )n O C(O) CH3 (n = 2 or 3). The hydrolysis of its pendant ester groups, followed by the reaction of the hydrolyzed prepolymer with each of several alkyl chloroformates of the type Cl C(O) O( CH2CH2O )mR′ (m = 0, 2, or 3, R′ = Me or Et) resulted in the corresponding target polymers. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Copolymer network hydrogels were prepared by gamma irradiation of aqueous solutions of poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) and acrylic acid monomer (AAc). The composition of the final hydrogels compared to the composition of the initial preparation solutions of hydrogels was determined. The chemical structure and nature of bonding was characterized by IR spectroscopy analysis, while the thermal durability of the prepared hydrogels was assessed by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The kinetic swelling in water and the pH-sensitivity of PVP/AAc copolymer hydrogels was studied. The drug release properties of PVP/AAc hydrogels taking methyl orange indicator as a drug model was investigated. The IR spectra indicate the formation of copolymer networks, whereas the TGA study showed that the PVP/AAc hydrogels possess higher thermal stability than pure PAAc and lower than PVP hydrogels. The kinetic swelling in water showed that all the hydrogels reached equilibrium after 24 h and that the degree of swelling increases with increasing the ratio of AAc in the initial feeding solutions. It was found that the degree of swelling of PVP/AAc hydrogels increases greatly within the pH range 4-7 depending on composition.  相似文献

Amphiphilic hydrogels of copolymers of the vinyl ether of ethylene glycol and vinyl isobutyl ether were synthesized by -radiation-induced free radical polymerization. Hydrogels with certain copolymer compositions showed thermo-sensitive behavior in aqueous solutions. The swelling behavior of the hydrogels in cetylpyridinium bromide aqueous solution was studied. Increased swelling of the hydrogels was observed in the surfactant solutions. The increased swelling was more prominent for the hydrogels with a higher content of hydrophobic moiety in the copolymer composition, and with higher surfactant concentration. The reason for this phenomenon is discussed. Treatment of some hydrogels in the surfactant solutions resulted in higher swelling ability in distilled water with distinct thermo-induced contraction over a narrow temperature interval.  相似文献

The cationic polymerization of ethyl, n-butyl and iso-butyl vinyl ether, EVE, BVE and iBVE, respectively, was efficiently conducted using bis(η5-cyclopentadienyl)dimethyl hafnium, Cp2HfMe2, or bis(η5-cyclopentadienyl)dimethyl zirconium, Cp2ZrMe2 in combination with either tris(pentafluorophenyl)borate, B(C6F5)3, or tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)borate dimethylanilinum salt, [B(C6F5)4]?[Me2NHPh]+, as initiation systems. The evolution of polymer yield, molecular weight and molecular weight distribution with time was examined. In addition, the influence of the initiating system, the monomer and the reaction conditions on the control of the polymerization was studied. Furthermore, statistical copolymers of EVE with BVE were prepared employing Cp2HfMe2 and [B(C6F5)4]?[Me2NHPh]+ as the initiation system. The reactivity ratios were estimated using both linear graphical and non-linear methods. Structural parameters of the copolymers were obtained by calculating the dyad sequence fractions and the mean sequence length, which were derived using the monomer reactivity ratios. The glass transition temperatures, Tg, of the copolymers were measured by Differential Scanning Calorimetry, DSC, and the results were compared with predictions based on several theoretical models. The kinetics of thermal decomposition of the copolymers along with the respective homopolymers was studied by thermogravimetric analysis within the framework of the Ozawa-Flynn-Wall and Kissinger methodologies.  相似文献

A novel IPN hydrogel designed to recognize MMTCA is prepared by applying the molecular-imprinting method. The IPN is characterized by FT-IR, DSC, and SEM. Langmuir analysis shows that an equal class of adsorption is formed in the hydrogel. The adsorption equilibrium constant and the maximum adsorption capacity are evaluated, and the effect of the pH on MMTCA adsorption is discussed. The selectivity of the imprinted polymer for MMTCA is studied in aqueous solutions of MMTCA/aspirin/riboflavin. The results suggest that the MMTCA-imprinted polymer shows superior selectivity for MMTCA as compared to riboflavin and aspirin. The reproducibility of the imprinted polymer to MMTCA is also studied.  相似文献

A pH-sensitive comb-type hydrogel was obtained by gamma radiation polymerization and crosslinking of acrylic acid (AAc) in solution. The pH-sensitive 4-vinylpyridine (4VP) was then grafted to the poly acrylic acid (PAAc) hydrogel using gamma radiation from a 60Co source. The comb type graft polymers obtained (net-PAAc)-g-4VP has been studied through determination of graft yield and swelling behavior. The critical pH value was found to be 5.6. The apparent mechanical properties appear to be qualitatively better than hydrogels of PAAc upon swelling. The new comb-type system presents faster swelling response (30 h) than the polyacrylic acid hydrogel (50 h). The increase in dose rate from 7.3 to 11.3 kGy h−1, increase the radiation grafting percentage of 4VP in the system. Comb-type polymers were also characterized by DSC, TGA and FTIR-ATR.  相似文献

Recently, a considerable amount of research has centered on uniquely structured polymers synthesized through self-propagating frontal polymerization. The obtained polymer materials have better features than those obtained by using the classical batch route. The additional advantages are short reaction times and low cost. This work describes the first frontal polymerization synthesis of a graft copolymer superabsorbent hydrogel of acrylic acid onto starch at high monomer and initiator concentration. The effects of varying the relative amounts of the reaction components on the most relevant parameters relating to frontal polymerization were explored. The front velocity dependence on initiator concentration could be fit to a power function. The temperature profiles were found to be very sharp with a maximum temperature below 150 degrees C, which was responsible for high monomer conversion. The ultimate properties of the product appear to depend on the polymerization front velocity and the temperature. The high-temperature and rapid temperature increase at the polymerization front led to products with interconnected porous structures caused by the evaporation of water. So, a fast-swelling, highly absorbing hydrogel with respect to batch polymerization was obtained.  相似文献

Partially water-swellable polymer networks were synthesized on the basis of poly(acrylic acid) and various macrodiisocyanates. Hydrophilic and hydrophobic local regions were revealed in swollen networks (hydrogels) by means of the spin probe technique. The local mobility in hydrophobic regions depends on the macrodiisocyanate structure; however, it is substantially lower than that in hydrophilic regions for all gels. It was assumed that the presence of hydrophobic and hydrophilic regions and the difference in their local dynamics must have a substantial effect on the pharmacokinetics of release of drugs immobilized in these hydrogels.  相似文献

<正>The aim of this work is to investigate the hydrogen-bonding interaction in poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA)/poly(acrylic acid)(PAA) blending system and its influence on rheological properties in solution and the physical properties in solid state. Introducing PAA into PVA solutions resulted in a thickening behavior of blend solutions.The viscosity of the solutions increased with PAA content increasing,and a maximum viscosity could be obtained when the ratio of PVA/PAA was 70/30. The intermolecular hydrogen-bonding and miscibility between PVA and PAA in solid state were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR) and mechanical measurements.The results displayed the great influence of introducing PAA on the properties of blending films.The tensile strength increased from 89.31 MPa to 119.8 MPa and Young's modulus improved by over 300%with increasing PAA concentration compared with those of pure PVA films.By systematically studying the rheological behaviors of solutions and the physical properties of films,the influence of hydrogen-bonding in solutions and solid states were discussed.  相似文献

Water‐soluble cationic copolymers and hydrogels were synthesized by radical copolymerization of [2‐(methacryloyloxy)ethyl]trimethylammonium chloride (MADQUAT) and 2‐hydroxyethylacrylate (HEA). The kinetics of copolymerization has been studied and the reactivity ratios were determined. It was found that MADQUAT exhibits higher reactivity in copolymerization. The complexation between linear MADQUAT‐HEA and linear poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) has been studied in aqueous solutions at different pH. It results in the formation of insoluble polyelectrolyte complexes, whose composition and stability to aggregate depends on MADQUAT content in copolymers and pH. The hydrogels were synthesized by three‐dimensional radical copolymerization of MADQUAT and HEA in the presence of a crosslinker. The effects of the feed mixture composition on yield and swelling properties of the hydrogels were studied. The interactions of these hydrogels with linear PAA result in formation of gel–polyelectrolyte complexes and contraction of the samples. The behavior of partially ionized weakly crosslinked gels based on poly(acrylic acid) and poly(methacrylic acid) undergoing contraction in the presence of a low-molecular-mass salt is studied experimentally. The concentration dependences of the enthalpies of swelling of gels in water and aqueous solutions with potassium chloride concentrations of 1, 10, and 100 mmol/L are determined via the method of isothermal calorimetry. On the basis of the obtained data, the enthalpy parameter of interaction between a polymer network and a medium is estimated as a function of the amount of the salt. This parameter does not exceed 0.3 and monotonically decreases with an increase in the concentration of the salt. The Donnan potential of gels depending on the concentration of KCl in the external solution is measured via the method of potentiometry with the use of capillary electrodes, and the activity of potassium counterions in the medium of hydrogel is calculated. The main factor that causes contraction of polyelectrolyte gels in a solution of a low-molecular-mass salt is a decline in the activity of counterions that leads to a decrease in the osmotic pressure inside the gel. A decline in activity may be associated with both a reduction in the activity coefficient and ionic association processes in the hydrogel.  相似文献

Herein, we present a novel way for the production of self-healing hydrogels with stretch beyond 4200% than their initial length and relatively high tensile strength(0.1?0.25 MPa). Furthermore, the hydrogel was insensitive to notch. Even for the samples containing V-notches, a stretch of 2300% was demonstrated. The hydrogels were developed by in situ crosslinking of the self-assembled colloidal poly(acrylic acid)(PAA)/functionalized polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane(POSS) micelles. This was achieved by the addition of functionalized polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane with tertiary amines and hydroxyls(POSS-AH) into the PAA reaction solution. The POSS-AH led to micellar growth, then the dualcrosslinked network was constructed. One type of crosslink was formed by hydrogen-bonding and ionic interactions between PAA chains and POSS-AH, the other type of crosslink was formed by covalent bonds between PAA and bis(N,N'-methylenebis-acrylamide).  相似文献

Miscibility of poly(4-vinyl pyridine) (P4VP) and poly(2-vinyl pyridine) (P2VP) with poly(viny acetate) (PVAc), poly(vinyl alcohol) PVA and poly(vinyl acetate-co-alcohol) (ACA copolymers) has been investigated over a wide composition range. Differentiaal scanning calorimetry (DSC) results indicate that P2VP is immiscible with PVAC, PVA, and their copolymers over the whole composition range. In turn, P4VP appears to be immiscible with PVAC and PVA, but miscible with some ACA copolymers in certain range of composition. The P4VP-ACA phase diagram for different copolymer compositions has been determined. The variation of the glass transition temperature with composition for miscible mixtures was found to follow the Gordon-Taylor equation, with the parameter κ dependent upon copolymer composition. FTIR analysis of blends reveal the existence of specific interactions via hydrogen bonding between hydroxyl groups and the nitrogen of the pyridinic ring, which appear to be decisive for miscibility. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献
