For any algebraA let(A) be the set of partial automorphisms (isomorphisms between subalgebras). With the natural multiplication it is an inductive groupoid in the sense of Ehresmann.(A) is complete iff every subset of(A) which is compatible with the semi-ordering has an upper bound. The fact, whether(A) is complete or not, depends on the defining operations ofA. For every direct familyF = (, (A ) ,(), , of algebras such that all ,, with are one-to-one functions, the direct limit is complete iff all(A) are complete. We give some theorems on the decomposition of inductive groupoids, and employ them in proving the completeness of(A) to variousA.In particular, we obtain that, in case whenG is a finite group,(G) is complete iffG is either cyclic or direct product of a noncyclic group of order 4 and a cyclic group of odd order. For finite acyclic ringsR and finite fieldsK the inductive groupoids(R) and(K) are complete.Further we deal with the question, to what extent algebras are determined by their inductive groupoids. (An algebraA of a classS is defined by(A) iff, for any algebraB of the classS, isomorphism between(A) and(B) implies isomorphism betweenA andB.) Particular attention is paid to finite groups. In general, algebras of classesS are not defined within the classS by their inductive groupoids.

Summary LetK d denote the cone of all convex bodies in the Euclidean spaceK d . The mappingK h K of each bodyK K d onto its support function induces a metric w onK d by" w (K, L)h L –h K w where w is the Sobolev I-norm on the unit sphere . We call w (K, L) the Sobolev distance ofK andL. The goal of our paper is to develop some fundamental properties of the Sobolev distance.  相似文献

In this paper three Banach spacesA 0(),A andA 1() of functions holomorphic in the unit ballB of n are defined. We exhibit bounded projections fromC 0(B) ontoA 0(), fromL 1(B) ontoA 1(), and fromL(B) ontoA(). Using these projections, we show thatA 0()* A 1() andA 1()* A().Supported in part by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.  相似文献

LetX be a complex Lebesgue space with a unique duality mapJ fromX toX *, the conjugate space ofX. LetA be a bounded linear operator onX. In this paper we obtain a non-linear eigenvalue problem for (A)=sup{Re: W(A} whereW(A)={J(x)A(x)) : x=1}, under the assumption that (A) and the convex hull ofW(A) for some linear operatorsA onl p , 2<p<.  相似文献

Let P be a probability distribution on a separable metric space (S,d). We study the following problem of approximation of a distribution P by a set from a given class A2 S : W(A,P) S (d(x,A))P(dx)min AA , where is a nondecreasing function. A special case where A is a parametric class A={A():T} is considered in detail. Our main interest is to obtain convergence results for sequences {A * n }, where A * n is an optimal set for a measure P n satisfying P n P, as n.  相似文献

Let e(x, y, ) be the spectral function and the unit spectral projection operator, with respect to the Laplace–Beltrami operator on a closed Riemannian manifold M. We generalize the one-term asymptotic expansion of e(x, x, ) by Hörmander (Acta Math. 88 (1968), 341–370) to that of x y e(x,y,)| x=y for any multiindices , in a sufficiently small geodesic normal coordinate chart of M. Moreover, we extend the sharp (L 2,L p) (2 p) estimates of by Sogge (J. Funct. Anal. 77 (1988), 123–134; London Math. Soc. Lecture Note Ser. 137, Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, 1989; Vol. 1, pp. 416–422) to the sharp (L 2, Sobolev L p) estimates of .  相似文献

Let t be the flow (parametrized with respect to arc length) of a smooth unit vector field v on a closed Riemannian manifold M n , whose orbits are geodesics. Then the (n-1)-plane field normal to v, v, is invariant under d t and, for each x M, we define a smooth real function x (t) : (1 + i (t)), where the i(t) are the eigenvalues of AA T, A being the matrix (with respect to orthonormal bases) of the non-singular linear map d2t , restricted to v at the point x -t M n.Among other things, we prove the Theorem (Theorem II, below). Assume v is also volume preserving and that x ' (t) 0 for all x M and real t; then, if x t : M M is weakly missng for some t, it is necessary that vx 0 at all x M.  相似文献

Summary It is proved that the operatorP: L 1 (0, ) L 1(0, ), given byPg(z) = z/c [g(x)/cx]dx, is completely mixing, i.e.,P n g 1 0 forg L 1(0, ) with g dx = 0. This implies that, forc (0, 1), each continuous and bounded solution of the equationf(x)= 0 cx f(t)dt/(cx) (x (0, 1]) is constant.  相似文献

We study a map of osculating elements of an affine Cayley- Klein (CK-) plane into the Lie algebraA 4(2) of the aequiform transformationsA 4(2) of the given plane. If we use the real projective spaceP 3() overA 4(2) each osculating element defines a straight line inP 3(). In the first part of this paper this map is studied in detail. In the second part we study second order properties of one- parameter motions and their corresponding properties in the Lie algebraA 4(2). This is done by considering the analogen to the formula of EULERSAVARY in the image spaceP 3() overA 4(2).  相似文献

LetX be a complex Banach space andA: D(A)X a densely defined closed linear operator whose resolvent set contains the real line and for which (–A)–1 is bounded onR. We give a necessary and sufficient condition, in terms of the complex powers ofA and –A, for the existence of a decompositionX=X +X , whereX ± are closed subspaces, invariant forA, the spectra of the reduced operatorsA ± are {(A);Im>0} and {(A);Im<0} respectively, and (–A ±)–1 is bounded forIm0.Finally we give an example of an operator in anL p-type space for which the decomposition exists if 1<p<+ and does not exist ifp=1.  相似文献

The universal enveloping C *-algebra A of twisted canonical commutation relations is considered. It is shown that, for any (–1,1), the C *-algebra A is isomorphic to the C *-algebra A 0 generated by partial isometries t i ,t i *,i=1,¨,d satisfying the relations t i * t j = ij (1– k<i t k t k *), t j t i =0, ij and it is proved that the Fock representation of A is faithful.  相似文献

The Bass–Heller–Swan–Farrell–Hsiang–Siebenmann decomposition of the Whitehead group K 1(A[z,z-1]) of a twisted Laurent polynomial extension A[z,z-1] of a ring A is generalized to a decomposition of the Whitehead group K 1(A((z))) of a twisted Novikov ring of power series A((z))=A[[z]][z-1]. The decomposition involves a summand W1(A, ) which is an Abelian quotient of the multiplicative group W(A,) of Witt vectors 1+a1z+a2z2+ ··· A[[z]]. An example is constructed to show that in general the natural surjection W(A, )ab W1(A, ) is not an isomorphism.  相似文献

Summary We study integral functionals of the formF(u, )= f(u)dx, defined foru C1(;R k), R n . The functionf is assumed to be polyconvex and to satisfy the inequalityf(A) c0¦(A)¦ for a suitable constant c0 > 0, where (A) is then-vector whose components are the determinants of all minors of thek×n matrixA. We prove thatF is lower semicontinuous onC 1(;R k) with respect to the strong topology ofL 1(;R k). Then we consider the relaxed functional , defined as the greatest lower semicontinuous functional onL 1(;R k ) which is less than or equal toF on C1(;R k). For everyu BV(;R k) we prove that (u,) f(u)dx+c0¦Dsu¦(), whereDu=u dx+Dsu is the Lebesgue decomposition of the Radon measureDu. Moreover, under suitable growth conditions onf, we show that (u,)= f(u)dx for everyu W1,p(;R k), withp min{n,k}. We prove also that the functional (u, ) can not be represented by an inte- gral for an arbitrary functionu BVloc(R n;R k). In fact, two examples show that, in general, the set function (u, ) is not subadditive whenu BVloc(R n;R k), even ifu W loc 1,p (R n;R k) for everyp < min{n,k}. Finally, we examine in detail the properties of the functionsu BV(;R k) such that (u, )= f(u)dx, particularly in the model casef(A)=¦(A)¦.  相似文献

Using a capacity approach, we prove in this article that it is always possible to define a realization of the Laplacian on L 2() with generalized Robin boundary conditions where is an arbitrary open subset of R n and is a Borel measure on the boundary of . This operator generates a sub-Markovian C 0-semigroup on L 2(). If d=d where is a strictly positive bounded Borel measurable function defined on the boundary and the (n–1)-dimensional Hausdorff measure on , we show that the semigroup generated by the Laplacian with Robin boundary conditions has always Gaussian estimates with modified exponents. We also obtain that the spectrum of the Laplacian with Robin boundary conditions in L p () is independent of p[1,). Our approach constitutes an alternative way to Daners who considers the (n–1)-dimensional Hausdorff measure on the boundary. In particular, it allows us to construct a conterexample disproving Daners' closability conjecture.  相似文献

We characterize generators of sub-Markovian semigroups onL p () by a version of Kato's inequality. This will be used to show (under precise assumptions) that the semigroup generated by a matrix operatorA=(A ij )1i,jn on (L p ()) n is sub-Markovian if and only if the semigroup generated by the sum of each rowA i 1+...+A in (1in), is sub-Markovian. The corresponding result on (C 0(X)) n characterizes dissipative operator matrices.

The paper deals with the problem of approximating point sets byn-point subsets with respect to the minimal widthw. Let, in particular, d denote the family of all convex bodies in Euclideand-space, letA d and letn be an integer greater thand. Then we ask for the greatest number = n (A) such that everyA A contains a polytope withn vertices which has minimal width at least w(A). We give bounds for n ( d ), for n (2133; d ), and for n (W d ), where 2133; d ,W d denote the families of centrally symmetric convex bodies and of bodies of constant width, respectively.Dedicated to Professor L. danzer on the occasion of his sixtieth birthdayResearch for this paper was conducted in the academic year 1986/87 while both authors were visiting the University of Washington, Seattle. The non-commutative torus C *(n,) is realized as the C*-algebra of sections of a locally trivial C*-algebra bundle over S with fibres isomorphic to C *n/S, 1) for a totally skew multiplier 1 on n/S. D. Poguntke [9] proved that A is stably isomorphic to C(S) C(*( Zn/S, 1) C(S) A Mkl( C) for a simple non-commutative torus A and an integer kl. It is well-known that a stable isomorphism of two separable C*-algebras is equivalent to the existence of equivalence bimodule between them. We construct an A-C(S) A-equivalence bimodule.  相似文献

Two algebras of global pseudo-differential operators over n are investigated, with corresponding classes of symbols A0=CB (all (x, )-derivatives bounded over 2n), and A1 (all finite applications of xj, j, and pq=pqpxp on the symbol are in A0). The class A1 consists of classical symbols, i.e., x a= 0((1+||)–||) for x Kc ;n, K, compact. It is shown that a bounded operator A of 210C=L2(Rn) is a pseudo-differential operator with symbol aAj if and only if the map AG–1AG, G gj is infinitely differentiable, from a certain Lie-group gj c GL(210C) to (210C) with operator norm. g0 is the Weyl (or Heisenberg) group. Extensions to operators of arbitrary order are discussed. Applications to follow in a subsequent paper.Dedicated to Hans Lewy and Charles B. Morrey, Jr.  相似文献
