On the problem of the phase shifts of reflected light
The paper solves the topical question of phase shifts when light is reflected. By introducing the reflection tensor and its transformation it was found that all phase shifts hitherto given in the literature can be used. It was proved that when different phase shifts are used the corresponding unit vectors must be oriented. If an arbitrary coordinate system and the relations pertaining to it are used consistently it is not possible by calculation or experiment to arrive at contradictory results.

The wave function of a harmonic oscillator is investigated under the assumption that the phase plays the role of a generalized coordinate. The spectral distribution of optical sum-frequency generation (SFG) by incoherent non-linear mixing of two chaotic beams with identical spectral width is calculated theoretically in the first approximation of the iterative method including dispersion of the non-linear medium and the difference between the group velocity of the input beams. It is shown that for the same group velocities (=0) of the input beams in non-linear medium the resultant field has a spectral width narrower than , and if a phase mismatch is present the spectral maximum of the resultant field is shifted towards lower or higher frequencies according to the sign of the phase mismatch. If the input beams have different group velocities (0) in the non-linear medium, then the spectral distribution of SFG is strongly dependent on . For small the spectral distribution of SFG is the same irrespective of . For large the difference in group velocities broadens the spectrum of SFG and for very large differences in group velocity the SFG has a spectral width identical to that of the input beams.  相似文献

Anti-photon     
It should be apparent from the title of this article that the author does not like the use of the word photon, which dates from 1926. In his view, there is no such thing as a photon. Only a comedy of errors and historical accidents led to its popularity among physicists and optical scientists. I admit that the word is short and convenient. Its use is also habit forming. Similarly, one might find it convenient to speak of the aether or vacuum to stand for empty space, even if no such thing existed. There are very good substitute words for photon, (e.g., radiation or light), and for photonics (e.g., optics or quantum optics). Similar objections are possible to use of the word phonon, which dates from 1932. Objects like electrons, neutrinos of finite rest mass, or helium atoms can, under suitable conditions, be considered to be particles, since their theories then have viable non-relativistic and non-quantum limits. This paper outlines the main features of the quantum theory of radiation and indicates how they can be used to treat problems in quantum optics.It is a pleasure to join in the 60th birthday celebration of the Director, Herbert Walther, of the Max-Planck-Institute for Quantum Optics at Garching, and wish him much happiness and many more years of his very great scientific creativity.  相似文献

Conditions are found for the coefficient functions of a linear ordinary differential equation of the kth order (k)+u1(k-2)+...+uk-1=k, when its solution has the following analytical dependence on the parameter: =exp(z i=1 n (+ai)(ajaj(Z)). We study the limit theorem related to the interface of the three-dimensional Ising model. Dobrushin proved that the interface does not fluctuate and becomes rigid for sufficiently large. We define the random fieldX L (t, s), 0t, s1, on the interface, and prove that XL(t, s) converges to the Brownian sheet as L for sufficiently large, whereL denotes the size of the system. This result does not mean that the interface itself converges to the Brownian sheet.  相似文献

Spectral properties of – +V(x), whereV(x) lies in a neighbourhood of the periodic case and describes various models of disorder, are studied. We prove the exponential decay of generalized eigenfunctions corresponding to energies in the resolvent set of the unperturbed periodic Hamiltonian, as well as the stability of the essential spectrum for the dislocation disorder in two dimensions.  相似文献

The Free-Electron Laser user facility FELIX produces picosecond optical pulses in the wavelength range of 5–110m. The proposed installation of a new undulator with a larger magnetic period would allow extension towards considerably longer wavelengths. This would result in the production of extremely short, far-infrared pulses, with a duration of a single optical period or even less. In order to investigate the pulse propagation for free-electron lasers operating in the long wavelength limit, a three-dimensional simulation code was developed. Using the FELIX parameters, with the addition of a long-period undulator, the effects of slippage, diffraction losses, changes in the filling factor, as well as the effects of the optical cavity geometry were studied for wavelengths up to 300m, with electron pulses in the ps regime. It is shown that slippage effects are less restrictive for long wavelength operation than the increasing losses due to optical beam diffraction.  相似文献

The diffraction pattern for the (111)-reflection of germanium was measured by means of the three-crystal arrangement and compared with dynamical theory. The results obtained indicate the possibility of using germanium crystals for precise measurements in X-ray spectroscopy.

A simple phenomenological theory of the hard-square lattice gas is obtained by analyzing a low-order corner transfer matrix variational approximation. The free energy is of Landau type and expressions are obtained for the order parameter and densities.
