We describe a general technique for embedding certain amalgamatedproducts into direct products. This technique provides us witha way of constructing a host of finitely presented subgroupsof automatic groups which are not even asynchronously automatic.We can also arrange that such subgroups satisfy, at best, anexponential isoperimetric inequality.  相似文献

We study notions such as finite presentability and coherence, for partially ordered abelian groups and vector spaces. Typical results are the following: (i) A partially ordered abelian group G is finitely presented if and only if G is finitely generated as a group, G+ is well-founded as a partially ordered set, and the set of minimal elements of G+\ {0} is finite. (ii) Torison-free, finitely presented partially ordered abelian groups can be represented as subgroups of some Zn, with a finitely generated submonoid of (Z+)n as positive cone. (iii) Every unperforated, finitely presented partially ordered abelian group is Archimedean. Further, we establish connections with interpolation. In particular, we prove that a divisible dimension group G is a directed union of simplicial subgroups if and only if every finite subset of G is contained into a finitely presented ordered subgroup.  相似文献

Given two d-dimensional Λ-modules M and N, then M degenerates to N if and only if there exists an exact sequence of the form 0→ UU ⊕ MN→ 0 for some U ? mod Λ (Zwara, 1998 Zwara , G. ( 1998 ). Having this as a starting point, in this article we give a characterization of degenerations by the existence of a certain finitely presented functor. This gives new information about U in the sequence above. We show how this new information can be used to prove that M   deg N even when M ⊕ X ≤  deg N ⊕ X for some X for modules over Λ q  = kx,y〉/〈 x 2,y 2,xy + qyx〉, q ≠ 0 in k, where k is an algebraically closed field.  相似文献

We prove that each almost local-global semihereditary ring R has the stacked bases property and is almost Bézout. More precisely, if M is a finitely presented module, its torsion part tM is a direct sum of cyclic modules where the family of annihilators is an ascending chain of invertible ideals. These ideals are invariants of M. Moreover, M/tM is a projective module which is isomorphic to a direct sum of finitely generated ideals. These ideals allow us to define a finitely generated ideal whose isomorphism class is an invariant of M. The idempotents and the positive integers defined by the rank of M/tM are invariants of M too. It follows that each semihereditary ring of Krull-dimension one or of finite character, in particular each hereditary ring, has the stacked base property. These results were already proved for Prüfer domains by Brewer, Katz, Klinger, Levy, and Ullery. It is also shown that every semihereditary Bézout ring of countable character is an elementary divisor ring.  相似文献

In this paper we extend certain central results of zero dimensional systems to higher dimensions. The first main result shows that if (Y,f) is a finitely presented system, then there exists a Smale space (X,F) and a u-resolving factor map π +:XY. If the finitely presented system is transitive, then we show there is a canonical minimal u-resolving Smale space extension. Additionally, we show that any finite-to-one factor map between transitive finitely presented systems lifts through u-resolving maps to an s-resolving map.  相似文献

In this paper we study the set of -powers in certain finitely generated groups . We show that, if is soluble or linear, and contains a finite index subgroup, then is nilpotent-by-finite. We also show that, if is linear and has finite index (i.e. may be covered by finitely many translations of ), then is soluble-by-finite. The proof applies invariant measures on amenable groups, number-theoretic results concerning the -unit equation, the theory of algebraic groups and strong approximation results for linear groups in arbitrary characteristic.

We characterize which permutational wreath products $G \ltimes W^{(X)}We characterize which permutational wreath products are finitely presented. This occurs if and only if G and W are finitely presented, G acts on X with finitely generated stabilizers, and with finitely many orbits on the cartesian square X 2. On the one hand, this extends a result of G. Baumslag about infinite presentation of standard wreath products; on the other hand, this provides nontrivial examples of finitely presented groups. For instance, we obtain two quasi-isometric finitely presented groups, one of which is torsion-free and the other has an infinite torsion subgroup. Motivated by the characterization above, we discuss the following question: which finitely generated groups can have a finitely generated subgroup with finitely many double cosets? The discussion involves properties related to the structure of maximal subgroups, and to the profinite topology.   相似文献

We study the filling length function for a finite presentation of a group , and interpret this function as an optimal bound on the length of the boundary loop as a van Kampen diagram is collapsed to the basepoint using a combinatorial notion of a null-homotopy. We prove that filling length is well behaved under change of presentation of . We look at 'AD-pairs' (f,g) for a finite presentation : that is, an isoperimetric function f and an isodiametric function g that can be realised simultaneously. We prove that the filling length admits a bound of the form [g+1][log (f+1)+1] whenever (f,g) is an AD-pair for . Further we show that (up to multiplicative constants) if is an isoperimetric function ( ) for a finite presentation then ( ) is an AD-pair.
