In quantum theory, symmetries more general than groups are possible. We give a general definition of a quantum symmetry, such that symmetry operations act on the Hilbert space of physical states and notions of unitarity, invariance and covariance are defined. Within this frame, weak quasi quantum groups are described as a natural generalization of group algebras. Consistency with locality distinguishes them from more general quantum symmetries. To find the new kinds of symmetry one should investigate low dimensional quantum systems such as two-dimensional layers.  相似文献

We reconsider the role of Lorentz invariance in the dynamical generation of the observed internal symmetries. We argue that, generally, Lorentz invariance can be imposed only in the sense that all Lorentz noninvariant effects caused by the spontaneous breakdown of Lorentz symmetry are physically unobservable. The application of this principle to the most general relativistically invariant Lagrangian, with arbitrary couplings for all the fields involved, leads to the appearance of a symmetry and, what is more, to the massless vector fields gauging this symmetry in both Abelian and non-Abelian cases. In contrast, purely global symmetries are generated only as accidental consequences of the gauge symmetry.  相似文献

We discuss the two-dimensional isotropic antiferromagnet in the framework of gauge invariance. Gauge invariance is one of the most subtle useful concepts in theoretical physics, since it allows one to describe the time evolution of complex physical system in arbitrary sequences of reference frames. All theories of the fundamental interactions rely on gauge invariance. In Dirac’s approach, the two-dimensional isotropic antiferromagnet is subject to second-class constraints, which are independent of the Hamiltonian symmetries and can be used to eliminate certain canonical variables from the theory. We have used the symplectic embedding formalism developed by a few of us to make the system under study gauge invariant. After carrying out the embedding and Dirac analysis, we systematically show how second-class constraints can generate hidden symmetries. We obtain the invariant second-order Lagrangian and the gauge-invariant model Hamiltonian. Finally, for a particular choice of factor ordering, we derive the functional Schröodinger equations for the original Hamiltonian and for the first-class Hamiltonian and show them to be identical, which justifies our choice of factor ordering.  相似文献

In a field theoretic framework we investigate generators of symmetry transformations induced by conserved local, not necessarily translationally covariant currents. Assuming the invariance of the vacuum and a mass gap, it is shown that the generator on one-particle states in general can be any polynomial of the generators of the Poincaré group and the internal symmetries. We give an example showing that the generator, defined as an integral over a conserved current, in spite of leaving the vacuum invariant, need not be self-adjoint.Supported by a DAAD grant  相似文献

Electron-electron interactions in half-filled high Landau levels in two-dimensional electron gases in a strong perpendicular magnetic field can lead to states with anisotropic longitudinal resistance. This longitudinal resistance is generally believed to arise from broken rotational invariance, which is indicated by charge density wave order in Hartree-Fock calculations. We use the Hartree-Fock approximation to study the influence of externally tuned Landau level mixing on the formation of interaction-induced states that break rotational invariance in two-dimensional electron and hole systems. We focus on the situation when there are two non-interacting states in the vicinity of the Fermi level and construct a Landau theory to study coupled charge density wave order that can occur as interactions are tuned and the filling or mixing are varied. We consider numerically a specific example where mixing is tuned externally through Rashba spin-orbit coupling. We calculate the phase diagram and find the possibility of ordering involving coupled striped or triangular charge density waves in the two levels. Our results may be relevant to recent transport experiments on quantum Hall nematics in which Landau level mixing plays an important role.  相似文献

We present a numerical simulation method of Noether and Lie symmetries for discrete Hamiltonian systems. The Noether and Lie symmetries for the systems are proposed by investigating the invariance properties of discrete Lagrangian in phase space. The numerical calculations of a two-degree-of-freedom nonlinear harmonic oscillator show that the difference discrete variational method preserves the exactness and the invariant quantity.  相似文献

The Lie symmetries and conserved quantities of a two-dimensional nonlinear diffusion equation of concentration are considered. Based on the invariance of the two-dimensional nonlinear diffusion equation of concentration under the infinitesimal transformation with respect to the generalized coordinates and time, the determining equations of Lie symmetries are presented. The Lie groups of transformation and infinitesimal generators of this equation are obtained. The conserved quantities associated with the nonlinear diffusion equation of concentration are derived by integrating the characteristic equations. Also, the solutions of the two-dimensional nonlinear diffusion equation of concentration can be obtained.  相似文献

We apply the variational cumulant expansion to study the phase transition of a two-dimensional coupled XY-king model. This model can describe several different systems with underlying continuous and & symmetries. We calculate the free energy, internal energy and specific heat to the third-order approximation with the trial action of two variational parameters. In a modern viewpoint relativistic quantum field theory is an emergent phenomenon arising in the low-energy corner of the physical fermionic vacuum – the medium, whose nature remains unknown. The same phenomenon occurs in condensed matter systems: In the extreme limit of low-energy condensed matter systems of special universality class acquire all the symmetries, which we know today in high-energy physics: Lorentz invariance, gauge invariance, general covariance, etc. The chiral fermions as well as gauge bosons and gravity field arise as fermionic and bosonic collective modes of the system. Inhomogeneous states of the condensed matter ground state – vacuum – induce nontrivial effective metrics of the space, where the free quasiparticles move along geodesics. This conceptual similarity between condensed matter and the quantum vacuum allows us to simulate many phenomena in high-energy physics and cosmology, including the axial anomaly, baryoproduction and magnetogenesis, event horizon and Hawking radiation, cosmological constant and rotating vacuum, etc., probing these phenomena in ultra-low-temperature superfluid helium, atomic Bose condensates and superconductors. The concept of invariance relates to both the intrinsic symmetries of physical systems and the symmetry of the set of equivalent reference frames used to observe them. Standard algebraic expressions for electrostatic potentials and crystal-field effective operators display both types of invariance. The concept of a reference frame is generalized to that of an ‘observing system’, which can, for example, be the basis states of a quantum system. This idea is related to Racah’s mathematical machinery for evaluating the matrix elements of many-electron 4f open-shell states in lanthanide ions. It is argued, on the basis of computational flexibility and ease of interpretation, that all equations that represent physical processes be expressible in terms of invariants of the set of observing systems. This ‘Principle of Invariance’ is then applied to special relativity, leading to a simple geometrical interpretation of Maxwell’s electromagnetic field equations. The close relationship between Dirac’s relativistic wave equation and Maxwell’s equations is then exposed. This leads to the concept of an inner structure of space-time and the reinterpretation of particle spin. Finally, it is shown that the use of invariants in relativity theory identifies a set of observing systems with a higher symmetry than that of Minkowski space-time.  相似文献

We consider a large class of two-dimensional integrable quantum field theories with non-abelian internal symmetry and classical scale invariance. We present a general procedure to determine explicitly the conserved quantum monodromy operator generating infinitely many non-local charges. The main features of our method are a factorization principle and the use of P, T, and internal symmetries. The monodromy operator is shown to satisfy a Yang-Baxter algebra, the structure constants (i.e. the quantum R-matrix) of which are determined by two-particle S-matrix of the theory. We apply the method to the chiral SU(N) and the O(2N) Gross-Neveu models.  相似文献

The concept of partial weak clustering in the mean is defined for states on physical systems which admit amenable (semi-)groups of symmetries. The properties of partial weak clustering states are studied and the relations between these states and (extremal) invariant (partial) states are considered. The Finsler formulation of the space-time geometry incorporates such internal symmetries of the physical fields as isotopic invariance of strongly interacting fields. We further investigate the exactly solvable quantum corrected two-dimensional dilatongravity theories. For a fixed choice of boundary conditions, there exist the infinite symmetries on the equations of motion and the constraint equations in such a theory. The generators of these symmetries obey the relations of W algebra. They can be used to generate infinite degenerate states of two-dimensional black hole. The existence of the infinite static and non-static solutions results in quantization of the Hawking flux in the procedure of black hole evaporation.  相似文献

The classical and quantum mechanics of a free massless point-like fermion is presented. The action is invariant under local 1-dimensional reparametrizations and supersymmetry, as well as a large set of rigid symmetries, including conformal and chiral symmetries. An infinite set of rigid symmetries is derived starting from the chiral invariance, but only a finite subset does not vanish on shell. The BRST-transformations corresponding to thed=1 local symmetries are constructed and the quantization is performed. Finally, the BRST-cohomology is investigated and the conditions producing the physical states are derived.  相似文献
