We present an analysis of the Raman interaction between a Rydberg atom and ultrashort light pulses. An application of the synchronization of quantum transitions to a simple atomic system (the hydrogen atom) is demonstrated. This is a direct way of measuring times and frequencies of microwave transitions between the high-lying atomic states using ultrashort light pulses. The results and analysis represent a new method for measuring the Rydberg constant.  相似文献

Vacuum-stimulated Raman transitions are driven between two magnetic substates of a 87Rb atom strongly coupled to an optical cavity. A magnetic field lifts the degeneracy of these states, and the atom is alternately exposed to laser pulses of two different frequencies. This produces a stream of single photons with alternating circular polarization in a predetermined spatiotemporal mode. MHz repetition rates are possible as no recycling of the atom between photon generations is required. Photon indistinguishability is tested by time-resolved two-photon interference.  相似文献

An ultrashort pulse of an electromagnetic field incident on an atom shakes the atom and gives rise to various electron transitions in it. These processes are accompanied by the reemission of the incident ultrashort pulse. This paper studies the relation between the spectra of reemitted photons of an ultrashort pulse and the transitions of atomic electrons into particular states. The obtained partial reemission spectra can allow one to relate direction patterns to the probability of the excitation of an atom into different states.  相似文献

Electron transitions occurring during the interaction of a heavy relativistic atom with a spatially inhomogeneous ultrashort electromagnetic pulse are considered by solving the Dirac equation. The corresponding transition probabilities are expressed in terms of known inelastic atomic form factors, which are widely used in the theory of relativistic collisions between charged particles and atoms. By way of example, the inelastic processes accompanying the interaction of ultrashort pulses with hydrogen-like atoms are considered. The probabilities of ionization and production of a bound-free electron-positron pair on a bare nucleus, which are accompanied by the formation of a hydrogen-like atom in the final state and a positron in the continuum, are calculated. The developed technique makes it possible to take into account exactly not only the spatial inhomogeneity of an ultrashort electromagnetic pulse, but also the magnetic interaction.  相似文献

Electron transitions and the spectrum of radiation emitted by an atom interacting with an ultrashort electromagnetic pulse are studied based on the sudden perturbation approximation. The excitation and ionization probabilities, the spectra of pulse reradiation by the atom, and the reradiation cross sections are calculated. It is concluded that the reradiation of ultrashort electromagnetic pulses by multielectron atoms is of a coherent nature.  相似文献

采用含时多态展开方法,对不同频率啁啾激光场中里德堡锂原子布居数的相干迁移特性进行了计算研究。结果表明:布居数跃迁几率对激光脉冲形状、激光场强度、啁啾率等参数非常敏感,在合适的激光参数下,可以实现布居数在四个量子态之间的完全迁移和量子态的囚禁。  相似文献

We report the results of a systematic study of white light generation in different high band-gap optical media (BaF2, acrylic, water and BK-7 glass) using ultrashort (45 fs) laser pulses. We have investigated the influence of different parameters, such as focal position of the incident laser light within the medium, the polarization state of the incident laser radiation and the pulse duration of the incident laser beam on the white light generation. Our results indicate that for intense, ultrashort pulses, the position of physical focus inside the media is crucial in the generation, with high efficiency, of white light spectra over the wavelength range 400–1100 nm. Linearly polarized incident laser light generates white light with higher intensity in the blue region than circularly polarized light. Ultrashort (45 fs) pulses generate a flatter spectrum with higher white light conversion efficiency than longer (300 fs) pulses of the same laser power. We believe that a flat response over a wide range of wavelengths in the continuum may be efficiently compressed for generation of sub-10 fs pulses. This paper concentrates on observations of the surface topography by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) on alloyed and stainless steels samples treated by ultrashort laser pulses with duration of 210 fs and 6.7 ps. Globular-like and jet-like objects were found depending on the various levels of the fluence applied. It is shown that these features appear due to solid-liquid and liquid-gas transitions within surface layer irradiated by intense laser light. The observations are confronted to the theory of short-pulsed laser light-matter interactions, including interference, excitation of electrons, electron-phonon coupling as well as subsequent ablation. It is shown that the orientation of small ripples does not always depend on the direction of the polarization of laser light.  相似文献

Ionization of a model two-electron atom in the presence of a strong field of ultrashort laser pulses is investigated using the numerical integration of the nonstationary Schrödinger equation, which describes the dynamics of a quantum system in the presence of an electromagnetic wave. The features of two-electron ionization in the presence of one-and two-cycle pulses are analyzed. The suppression of double ionization in the presence of ultrashort laser pulses related to a finite-time interelectron energy exchange upon the laser action is demonstrated. The features of the generation of high-order harmonics and single XUV attosecond pulses are studied for the atomic ionization by few-cycle laser pulses. The parameters of the laser pulse are optimized for the effective generation of a single XUV attosecond pulse.  相似文献

利用氧化石墨烯作为可饱和吸收体,在被动锁模全正常色散掺镱光纤激光器中研究了多脉冲的现象,在同一抽运功率不同偏振态下,实验获得了矩形脉冲谐波锁模、耗散孤子谐波锁模、准谐波锁模,脉冲峰值周期性调制,脉冲簇、脉冲束、混沌多重脉冲的多脉冲现象,插入激光腔内的2nm窄带滤波器具有限制增益带宽、对脉冲塑形、诱导多脉冲产生的作用,调节偏振控制器相当于改变腔内增益,是实现不同类型多脉冲现象的主要原因,本实验研究有利于加深对多脉冲动力学行为在正常色散区域氧化石墨烯锁模掺镱光纤激光器中的理解。  相似文献

In this paper we performed the experimental and numerical study of a passively mode-locked fiber laser that generates packets of sub-picosecond pulses instead of individual pulses. The proposed configuration is a figure-eight fiber laser scheme, which includes a Nonlinear Optical Loop Mirror with polarization asymmetry inserted into a ring cavity. No experimental evidence of self-starting mode locking operation of the laser was observed; however, for proper adjustments of the wave retarders included in the setup, a mechanical stimulation triggers the onset of mode locking. The autocorrelation of the generated pulses shows a narrow sub-picosecond peak riding a large sub-nanosecond pedestal whose intensity is half that of the peak, and the optical spectrum is smooth and wide. We show that contrary to conventional ultrashort pulses, these pulses do not vanish rapidly after propagation through a long dispersive fiber, which makes then attractive for super-continuum generation as well as for applications in metrology. Finally, we study the pulse formation in the laser and present arguments based on experimental data and numerical simulations that the observed pulses are actually sets of a large number of solitons.  相似文献

We present a tomographic technique based on Photoelectron Angular Distributions (PADs) measured by Velocity-Map-Imaging (VMI) to reconstruct the three-dimensional shape of ultrashort free electron wave packets obtained from 1+2 Resonance Enhanced Multi-Photon Ionization (REMPI) of potassium atoms. To this end the laser pulse is rotated about its propagation direction and a set of PADs are recorded at different rotation angles. The tomographic reconstruction technique is described and results for linear and elliptical polarization are presented. Results for linearly polarized light producing cylindrically symmetric electron wave packets confirm the validity of our method whereas elliptically polarized light serves as a prototype for polarization-shaped laser pulses.  相似文献

We have analyzed the induced phase modulation (IPM) for ultrashort (74 fs) two-pulse propagation in a silica fiber by the extended finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method, considering all exact Sellmeier-fitting values and nonlinear polarization PNL involving the Raman response function. We show that nonlinear polarization causes several phenomena in spectral characteristics of propagated pulses, such as self-phase modulation (SPM), self-steepening, Raman response and IPM, by the extended FDTD method. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first IPM calculation by the extended FDTD method for the simultaneous propagation of two ultrashort (74 fs) laser pulses in a silica fiber.  相似文献

A theory of the nonresonant response of a single atom in a state with arbitrary magnitude and direction of the angular momentum of an atomic electron with respect to the polarization vector of the acting electromagnetic field has been developed. It has been shown that the atomic response current has a tensor structure and depends both on the direction of the angular momentum of the atom and on the polarization vector of the external field. The tensor character of the response is due to the effects of the anisotropy of probability density distribution of the atomic electron as compared to the case of the free atom. The selection rules for the axisymmetric problem of the atom in the field have been analyzed. The manifestation of the selection rules in the angular spectra of photoelectrons has been demonstrated. The probability of the ionization of the atom has been analyzed as a function of the amplitude and duration of the pulse. It has been shown that the width of the generation spectrum is a nonlinear function of the field strength and is saturated in the region of nearly atomic fields. Methods for controlling the parameters of the atomic response spectrum have been proposed on the basis of the use of a sequence of laser pulses with various time profiles, carrier frequencies, and polarization states. It has been shown that the generation of terahertz radiation is possible in the preionization regime, where the generation mechanism is attributed to atomic nonlinearity.  相似文献

通过求解D2分子在飞秒激光场中的含时薛定谔方程,研究了室温下D2分子在超快飞秒激光驱动下的的转动波包动力学. 选择用第一束超短飞秒脉冲与温度为300 K的D2分子系综相互作用产生一个相干转动波包,用第二束超短飞秒脉冲在波包的1/4和3/4恢复周期选择操纵D2分子取向. 研究结果表明,通过选择两束超短飞秒脉冲的延迟时间,可以有效控制D2分子转动波包中奇偶态的相对布居,从而选择性的控制D2分子取向.  相似文献

Third-harmonic and sum-frequency generation in quadratically nonlinear azopolymer films is experimentally studied using femtosecond chromium forsterite laser pulses. A noncollinear geometry of sum-frequency and third-harmonic generation developed and implemented in this work allows the influence of the time ordering of ultrashort laser pump pulses on nonlinear-optical phenomena to be experimentally observed. Femtosecond laser pulses induce transitions of azopolymer molecules to an electronically excited state and produce vibrational wave packets, leading to an asymmetry in the dependence of the efficiency of second-and third-order nonlinear-optical processes on the delay time between the pump pulses.  相似文献
