We present a compact holographic interferometer that uses a photorefractive crystal of the sillenite family as a holographic
recording medium. Its development is based on a previous prototype that showed lack of flexibility and portability. We briefly
discuss the main improvements leading to a compact device. Applications of this instrument in various metrological problems
are shown, among which are two that were not already considered using holography, namely measurement of a thermal expansion
coefficient and detection of fingerprints.

A novel setup for imaging and interferometry through reflection holography with Bi12TiO20(BTO) sillenite photorefractive crystals is proposed. A variation of the lensless Denisiuk arrangement was developed resulting in a compact, robust and simple interferometer. A red He-Ne laser was used as light source and the holographic recording occurred by diffusion with the grating vector parallel to the crystal [0 0 1]-axis. In order to enhance the holographic image quality and reduce noise a polarizing beam splitter (PBS) was positioned at the BTO input and the crystal was tilted around the [0 0 1]-axis. This enabled the orthogonally polarized transmission and diffracted beams to be separated by the PBS, providing the holographic image only. The possibility of performing deformation and strain analysis as well as vibration measurement of small objects was demonstrated. 相似文献

During holographic recording in photorefractive crystals (BSO, BGO, and BTO) by an oscillating interference pattern we observe
a strong dynamic deflection of the laser beams reflected from the crystal’s surface. The theoretical treatment shows that
this new effect is associated with a nonlinear interaction of space charge gratings resulting in a quasi-homogeneous oscillating
space charge field which provides deformations of the crystal via the piezoelectric effect.

Elementary holographic phase gratings can be written in single crystals of Na2[Fe(CN)5NO]·2H2O, sodiumnitroprusside, by excitation of metastable electronic states in the blue–green spectral range. For light polarized
parallel to the crystallographic a and b axes of the orthorhombic crystal the light-induced modulation of the refractive index
reaches Δn≈2×10-3 at λ=514.5 nm. Although the largest population of the metastable states is reached for light polarized parallel to the crystallographic
c axis, a photorefractive response is not observed. In contrast to electro-optic photorefractive materials the photorefractive
effect depends mono-exponentially on the exposure and on the modulation of the incident light interference pattern. Beam-coupling
experiments demonstrate that written gratings are in phase with the interference pattern in correspondence with the fact that
the excitation of the metastable electronic states is local. The width of the rocking curve shows that the holographic gratings
are written completely over the volume of the crystal. Variations of the wavelengths within the excitation range as well as
of the crystal thickness do not influence the maximum photorefractive response. Investigations on the grating vector of the
written gratings show unambiguously that charge migration is not responsible for the photorefractive effect.

We present a recent development in holography with multimode, large free-spectral range (FSR) diode lasers in photorefractive sillenite crystals. A novel refractometry method based on this type of holographic recording in Bi12TiO20 (BTO) crystals is proposed. The holographic image of a prism-shaped transparent sample appears covered of interference fringes, and as the sample is properly translated, the fringes run along the holographic image. An expression providing the refractive index of the medium as a function of the sample displacement and the correspondent number of running fringes was derived. The refractive indexes of optical (BK7) glass, ethanol, hexan, cumene and aqueous solution of NaCl with different concentrations were measured in order to test the method. The obtained results are in good agreement with the ones reported in literature or measured by us using a commercial Abbe refractometre. 相似文献

A holographic double-exposure interferometer for quasi real-time analysis is realized, utilizing a photorefractive BTO:Cd
crystal for hologram recording. Heating of the crystal reduces the time required to reach the steady-state working situation.
Light-induced absorption losses are reduced by heating as well. Additionally, the diffraction efficiency is increased by this
method. A sixfold increase in the light intensity of the reconstructed interferogram is achieved.

We study the influence of the application of an external electric field on the grating formed in (1-10) and (111)-cut photorefractive
sillenite crystals. Optimum conditions for application of the bias field are examined, taking into account the shift of the
grating orientation for maximum diffraction efficiency along the crystal depth. The contribution of the piezoelectric effect
is considered both in the electro-optic tensor and space charge field calculations. An analysis on the diffractive properties
under these optimum conditions shows an increase of 30% in maximum diffraction efficiency in Bi12GeO20, and experimental verification for this is provided.

We present a holographic method of one-way image transmission with ‘real-time’ correction of distortion through an optical
system. The technique is demonstrated using a crystal of photorefractive rhodium-doped barium titanate as the holographic
medium and corrects for phase distortions imposed upon a US Air Force test chart. This technique is suitable for applications
in both cw and pulsed regimes, and for either fixed or changing distortions.

Steady-state and time-resolved off-Bragg-angle diffraction experiments are used to determine the structure and the dynamics
of photorefractive gratings induced by interband photoexcitation. In potassium niobate, we identify in such gratings basically
a two-layer structure. Close to the surface, we find a space-charge electric field generated by a charge modulation stored
directly in the bands. This grating component is typically 50 μm thick, the amplitude of the refractive index modulation is
larger than 10-4, and the response time is a few μs for resonant intensities of 100 mW cm-2. This component is also robust under non-resonant illumination. Deeper in the crystal, a second holographic layer extends
over a few hundreds of μm, its amplitude is smaller, and its slower response time is in the ms range. The mutual phase shift
between the grating components is also determined.

It is shown that it is possible to increase dramatically the efficiency of stationary four-wave mixing in cubic photorefractive crystals of the sillenite family. In order to do this one has to use a holographic arrangement of the cubic crystal where the same volume phase hologram has opposite contrasts for orthogonally polarized light waves traversing the sample in opposite directions. In combination with a new efficient nonstationary mechanism of shifted hologram formation, this arrangement can enable phase conjugation of amplified waves and stationary selfoscillation without an external resonator cavity. 相似文献

In the present communication we show a real time holographic polariscope. The system is based on the dynamic anisotropic diffraction properties that happen in cubic photorefractive crystals of the sillenite family. This result represents a promising technique for possible mechanical strain and stress analysis for scientific and technical applications. 相似文献

Optical holographic memory using angular-rotationally phase-coded multiplexing in a LiNbO3:Fe crystal 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
We propose a new holographic memory scheme based on random-phase-coded multiplexing in a photorefractive LiNbO3:Fe crystal. Experimental results show that rotating a diffuser placed as a random-phase modulator in the path of the reference
beam provides a simple yet effective method of increasing the holographic storage capabilities of the crystal. Combining this
rotational multiplexing with angular multiplexing offers further data-storage possibilities. The advantage of using post-image
versus pre-image phase modulation of the object beam is demonstrated.

It is shown that dynamical hologram formation in photorefractive, optically active crystals is accompanied by polarization and energy exchange. These effects may be used like new effective holographic methods for determinations of crystal parameters and optical signal processing in real time. In self-diffraction a polarization rotation the order of degrees/cm for Bi12TiO20 and Bi12SiO20 is predicted. 相似文献

Exceptionally high values of photorefractive gain coefficient of up to 100 cm-1 have been observed in Fe-doped and Fe/Tb-doped crystals of photorefractive lithium niobate. It is believed that these are
the highest observed coefficients of any crystalline photorefractive medium. Accurate measurements of gain coefficient have
been possible for the first time by using a specially cut triangular crystal which allows the use of short interaction lengths
and the complete elimination of surface reflections by having the beams incident at Brewster’s angle. Experimental results
are consistent with a simple model of photorefractive beam coupling up until the onset of noise which is observed to deplete
the pump for interaction lengths longer than 1 mm.

This work presents a holographic interferometer that uses the photorefractive sillenite crystals in diffusive regimen whose configuration exhibits diffraction anisotropy for real-time holographic interferometry. The writing–reading process of holographic interferogram was done in real-time, connected with an interferogram-analysis method that uses the phase-stepping technique for quantitative measurement of changes on an object. The holographic interferograms from the analyzed surface were captured and they were used to calculate the phase map with four-frame technique. The unwrapping process used was the cellular-automata technique. We obtained quantitative results for some applications: measurements of micro-rotation of surfaces, punctual micro-displacements on an aluminum plate, stress on a dog's jaw, among others; adding new promising applications possibilities for basic research, dentistry and technological areas. 相似文献

The role of carrier mobility in holographic recording in LiNbO3 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We investigate the role of carrier mobility in holographic recording in LiNbO3 crystals. Both normal holographic recording (single wavelength, single trap) and two-center recording are considered, and
the differences between the performances of the two methods are explained. We show that increasing mobility by using stoichiometric
crystals or by doping with Mg does not improve sensitivity considerably, but does reduce M/# by at least one order of magnitude.

Photoinduced light scattering is a serious drawback that limits the applicability of thick holographic recording media but
provides valuable information on the recording medium. As long as there is no correlation between the scattering centers in
the crystal, photoinduced light scattering may be explained to result from the interference pattern of the incident beam and
the field scattered from a single point-like scattering center. The hologram of this ellipsoidally scattered wave field will
have practically the same structure in the reciprocal space modified by a response function which reflects the anisotropic
properties of the recording medium. We studied photoinduced light scattering in LiNbO3:Fe, a model system for photorefractive materials. The transmitted intensity in the stationary state of the scattering process
is investigated as a function of the reconstruction angle at different wavelengths and polarizations of the reconstructing
beam. The experimental results are analyzed by a simple phenomenological model based on the Ewald construction and can be
used to choose suitable conditions at which holographic scattering can be minimized as well as to extract some physical parameters
of the crystal.

We report the measurement of the diffusion length, the Debye screening length and the quantum efficiency of photoelectron
generation in strongly light absorbing photorefractive Bi12TiO20 crystals, using fringe-locked running hologram experiments. The effective applied electric field inside the sample is also
computed and self-diffraction is considered. The novelty here, as compared to formerly reported experiments, is that the diffraction
efficiency is now measured simultaneously with the hologram speed v. From these data the above referred to photorefractive
and experimental parameters are obtained without the need for additional experiments. The method is used to analyze two photorefractive
Bi12TiO20 crystal samples, in different experimental conditions, using the 514.5 nm wavelength. The computed parameters are in good
agreement with the available information about these samples.

laser and show its influence on two- and four-wave mixing. In four-wave mixing the etalon effect allows changes of the diffraction
efficiency by more than 80%. Results are supported by theoretical considerations.
