In this paper, we prove a sphere theorem for submanifolds in a Riemannian manifold with pinched positive curvature. This result generalizes a recent result of Leung.Supported by the Natural Science Foundation of China  相似文献

LetM, N be complete manifolds,u:MN be a harmonic map with potentialH, namely, a critical point of the functionalE H (u)= M [e(u) − H(u)], wheree(u) is the energy density ofu. We will give a Liouville theorem foru with a class of potentialsH’s. Research supported in part by NNSFC, SFECC and NSFCCNU.  相似文献

The aim of this work is to show that a star-shaped hypersurface of constant mean curvature into the Euclidean sphere Sn+1 must be a geodesic sphere. This result extends the one obtained by Jellett in 1853 for such type of surfaces in the Euclidean space R3. In order to do that we will compute a useful formula for the Laplacian of a new support function defined over a hypersurface M of a Riemannian manifold .  相似文献

LetM be a complete Riemannian manifold with Ricci curvature having a positive lower bound. In this paper, we prove some rigidity theorems forM by the existence of a nice minimal hypersurface and a sphere theorem aboutM. We also generalize a Myers theorem stating that there is no closed immersed minimal submanifolds in an open hemisphere to the case that the ambient space is a complete Riemannian manifold withk-th Ricci curvature having a positive lower bound. In correspondence with the manifolds of quasi-constant sectional curvature defined (cf [5], [9]) in the Riemannian context, we introduce in the K?hlerian framework the geometric notion of quasi-constant holomorphic sectional curvature. Some characterizations and properties are given. We obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for these manifolds to be locally symmetric, Ricci or Bochner flat, K?hler η-Einstein or K?hler-Einstein, etc. The characteristic classes are studied at the end and some examples are provided throughout.   相似文献

In their common paper [An. Stiint. Univ. Al. I. Cuza Iasi. Mat. (N.S.) 43 (1997) 307-321] the authors give a condition for a 1-form β to be the perturbation of a Riemannian manifold (M, α) such that the manifold equipped with any (α, β) -metric is a Wagner manifold with respect to the Wagner connection induced by β. The condition shows that its covariant derivative with respect to the Lévi-Civita connection must be of a special form

The purpose of this paper is to generalize the Liouville theorem for functions which are defined on the complete Riemannian manifolds. Then, we apply it to the isometric immersions between complete Riemannian manifolds in order to obtain an estimate for the size of the image of immersions in terms of the supremum of the length of their mean curvature vector in a quite general setting. The proofs are based on the Calabi's generalization of maximum principle for functions which are not necessarily differentiable.  相似文献

In this paper we present several curvature estimates and convergence results for solutions of the Ricci flow, including the volume normalized Ricci flow and the normalized Kähler-Ricci flow. The curvature estimates depend on smallness of certain local space-time integrals of the norm of the Riemann curvature tensor, while the convergence results require finiteness of space-time integrals of this norm. These results also serve as characterization of blow-up singularities.  相似文献

In this paper we present several curvature estimates for solutions of the Ricci flow and the modified Ricci flow (including the volume normalized Ricci flow and the normalized Kähler-Ricci flow), which depend on the smallness of certain local \(L^{\frac{n}{2}}\) integrals of the norm of the Riemann curvature tensor |Rm|, where n denotes the dimension of themanifold. These local integrals are scaling invariant and very natural.  相似文献

We study the volumes volume(D) of a domain D and volume(C) of a hypersurface C obtained by a motion along a submanifold P of a space form Mnλ. We show: (a) volume(D) depends only on the second fundamental form of P, whereas volume(C) depends on all the ith fundamental forms of P, (b) when the domain that we move D0 has its q-centre of mass on P, volume(D) does not depend on the mean curvature of P, (c) when D0 is q-symmetric, volume(D) depends only on the intrinsic curvature tensor of P; and (d) if the image of P by the ln of the motion (in a sense which is well-defined) is not contained in a hyperplane of the Lie algebra of SO(nqd), and C is closed, then volume(C) does not depend on the ith fundamental forms of P for i>2 if and only if the hypersurface that we move is a revolution hypersurface (of the geodesic (nq)-plane orthogonal to P) around a d-dimensional geodesic plane.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to study the stability of the characteristic vector field of a compact K-contact manifold with respect to the energy and volume functionals when we consider on the manifold a two-parameter variation of the metric. First of all, we multiply the metric in the direction of the characteristic vector field by a constant and then we change the metric by homotheties. We will study to what extent the results obtained in [V. Borrelli, Stability of the characteristic vector field of a Sasakian manifold, Soochow J. Math. 30 (2004) 283-292. Erratum on the article: Stability of the characteristic vector field of a Sasakian manifold, Soochow J. Math. 32 (2006) 179-180] for Sasakian manifolds are valid for a general K-contact manifold. Finally, as an example, we will study the stability of Hopf vector fields on Berger spheres when we consider homotheties of Berger metrics.  相似文献

Let (Mn,g), n?3, be a smooth closed Riemannian manifold with positive scalar curvature Rg. There exists a positive constant C=C(M,g) defined by mean curvature of Euclidean isometric immersions, which is a geometric invariant, such that Rg?n(n−1)C. In this paper we prove that Rg=n(n−1)C if and only if (Mn,g) is isometric to the Euclidean sphere Sn(C) with constant sectional curvature C. Also, there exists a Riemannian metric g on Mn such that the scalar curvature satisfies the pinched condition

We give an alternative proof to a theorem of Carlson [J.F. Carlson, Cohomology and induction from elementary abelian subgroups, Quart. J. Math. 51 (2000) 169-181] which states that if G is a finite group and k is a field of characteristic p, then any kG-module is a direct summand of a module which has a filtration whose sections are induced from elementary abelian p-subgroups of G. We also prove two new theorems which are closely related to Carlson’s theorem.  相似文献

We prove some pinching results for the extrinsic radius of compact hypersurfaces in space forms. In the hyperbolic space, we show that if the volume of M is 1, then there exists a constant C depending on the dimension of M and the L-norm of the second fundamental form B such that the pinching condition (where H is the mean curvature) implies that M is diffeomorphic to an n-dimensional sphere. We prove the corresponding result for hypersurfaces of the Euclidean space and the sphere with the Lp-norm of H, p?2, instead of the L-norm.  相似文献

There exist exactly 4044 topological types of 4-colorable tile-4-transitive tilings of the plane. These can be obtained by systematic application of two geometric algorithms, edge-contraction and vertex-truncation, to all tile-3-transitive tilings of the plane.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to study the conformally invariant functionals of hypersurfaces in a Riemannian manifold and variational problems related to these functionals. A class of conformal invariants is presented and the variational problem related to this class of conformally invariant functionals is studied.  相似文献

In this paper we prove that, under an explicit integral pinching assumption between the L2-norm of the Ricci curvature and the L2-norm of the scalar curvature, a closed 3-manifold with positive scalar curvature admits a conformal metric of positive Ricci curvature. In particular, using a result of Hamilton, this implies that the manifold is diffeomorphic to a quotient of S3. The proof of the main result of the paper is based on ideas developed in an article by M. Gursky and J. Viaclovsky.  相似文献

Motivated by a conjecture of Steinhaus, we consider the mapping F, associating to each point x of a convex hypersurface the set of all points at maximal intrinsic distance from x. We first provide two large classes of hypersurfaces with the mapping F single-valued and involutive. Afterwards we show that a convex body is smooth and has constant width if its double has the above properties of F, and we prove a partial converse to this result. Additional conditions are given, to characterize the (doubly covered) balls.  相似文献

Let G be a finite group and α an automorphism of G of prime order p. It is shown that if the elements x of G satisfy the equation with sufficiently high probability (depending only on p) then G is nilpotent.Received: 8 January 2005  相似文献

Various properties are given concerning geodesics on, and distance functions from points in, typical degenerate convex surfaces; i.e., surfaces obtained by gluing together two isometric copies of typical (in the sense of Baire category) convex bodies, by identifying the corresponding points of their boundaries.  相似文献
