The degenerate semi-Riemannian geometry of a Lie group is studied. Then a naturally reductive homogeneous semi-Riemannian space is obtained from the Lie group in a natural way.  相似文献

Summary For a simply connected solvable Lie group we specify the structure of the product, the inverse and the exponential map expressed in suitable coordinates (canonical coordinates of the second kind), and point out that in these coordinates the product and inverse are expressed entirely in terms of polynomials, exponential functions and trigonometric functions. We devise algorithms for computing the product, the inverse and the exponential map.  相似文献

The aim of this article is to exhibit the variety of different Ricci soliton structures that a nilpotent Lie group can support when one allows for the metric tensor to be Lorentzian. In stark contrast to the Riemannian case, we show that a nilpotent Lie group can support a number of non‐isometric Lorentzian Ricci soliton structures with decidedly different qualitative behaviors and that Lorentzian Ricci solitons need not be algebraic Ricci solitons. The analysis is carried out by classifying all left invariant Lorentzian metrics on the connected, simply‐connected five‐dimensional Lie group having a Lie algebra with basis vectors and and non‐trivial bracket relations and , investigating the various curvature properties of the resulting families of metrics, and classifying all Lorentzian Ricci soliton structures.  相似文献

In this work we prove the existence of totally geodesic two-dimensional foliation on the Lorentzian Heisenberg group H 3. We determine the Killing vector fields and the Lorentzian geodesics on H 3.  相似文献

Some results related to the causality of compact Lorentzian manifolds are proven: (1) any compact Lorentzian manifold which admits a timelike conformal vector field is totally vicious, and (2) a compact Lorentzian manifold covered regularly by a globally hyperbolic spacetime admits a timelike closed geodesic, if some natural topological assumptions (fulfilled, for example, if one of the conjugacy classes of deck transformations containing a closed timelike curve is finite) hold. As a consequence, any compact Lorentzian manifold conformal to a static spacetime is geodesically connected by causal geodesics, and admits a timelike closed geodesic.  相似文献

In this paper we give a realization of some symmetric space G/K as a closed submanifold P of G. We also give several equivalent representations of the submanifold P. Some properties of the set gKP are also discussed, where gK is a coset space in G.  相似文献

In this paper we generalize a result in [J. An, Z. Wang, On the realization of Riemannian symmetric spaces in Lie groups, Topology Appl. 153 (7) (2005) 1008-1015, showing that an arbitrary Riemannian symmetric space can be realized as a closed submanifold of a covering group of the Lie group defining the symmetric space. Some properties of the subgroups of fixed points of involutions are also proved.  相似文献

We consider three-dimensional unimodular Lie groups equipped with a Lorentzian metric and we determine, for all of them, their sets of homogeneous geodesics through a point. We investigate a class of semi-Riemannian submersions satisfying a Lorentzian analogue of the classical Clairaut's relation for surfaces of revolution. We show that a Lorentzian submersion with one-dimensional fibers is Clairaut if and only if the fibers are totally umbilic with a gradient field as the normal curvature vector field. We also investigate the behavior of timelike and null geodesics in Lorentzian Clairaut submersions. In particular, every null geodesic of a Lorentzian Clairaut submersion with one-dimensional fibers projects to a pregeodesic in the base space with respect to a conformally related metric on the base space if and only if the integrability tensor of the submersion vanishes.  相似文献

We construct a family of simply connected 2-step nilpotent Lie groups of higher rank such that every geodesic lies in a flat. These are as Riemannian manifolds irreducible and arise from real representations of compact Lie algebras. Moreover we show that groups of Heisenberg type do not even infinitesimally have higher rank. Received: 2 July 2001 / Revised version: 19 October 2001  相似文献

In this paper, we study the nilradicals of parabolic subalgebras of semisimple Lie algebras and the natural one-dimensional solvable extensions of them. We investigate the structures, curvatures and Einstein conditions of the associated nilmanifolds and solvmanifolds. We show that our solvmanifold is Einstein if the nilradical is two-step. New examples of Einstein solvmanifolds with three-step and four-step nilradicals are also given. We study left invariant contact forms and left invariant symplectic forms on Lie groups. In the case of filiform Lie groups we give a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a left invariant contact form and we prove the uniqueness of this contact form up to a nonzero scalar multiple. As an application we classify all symplectic structures on nilpotent Lie algebras of dimension ?6.  相似文献

Amongst other results, we perform a ‘contactization’ method to construct, in every odd dimension, many contact Lie groups with a discrete center, unlike the usual (classical) contactization which only produces Lie groups with a non-discrete center. We discuss some applications and consequences of such a construction, construct several examples and derive some properties. We give classification results in low dimensions. A complete list is supplied in dimension 5. In any odd dimension greater than 5, there are infinitely many locally non-isomorphic solvable contact Lie groups. We also characterize solvable contact Lie algebras whose derived ideal has codimension one. For simplicity, most of the results are given in the Lie algebra version.  相似文献

Let N=G/ be a compact nilmanifold, G a connected, simply connected, nilpotent Lie group with its discrete subgroup and Lie algebra . Let I* ( ) denote the invariant differential forms on .If I* ( ) H* ( ) is an injective map, then G is abelian and N is a torus. Furthermore, N has a formal minimal model. If N is an even-dimensional compact nilmanifold, it has a Kähler structure and invariant symplectic structure if and only if I* ( ) H* ( ) is injective.  相似文献

We review the theory of strongly elliptic operators on Lie groups and describe some new simplifications. Let U be a continuous representation of a Lie group G on a Banach space and a 1,...,a d a basis of the Lie algebra g of G. Let A i=dU(a i) denote the infinitesimal generator of the continuous one-parameter group t U(exp(-ta i)) and set % MathType!MTEF!2!1!+-% feaafeart1ev1aaatCvAUfeBSjuyZL2yd9gzLbvyNv2CaerbuLwBLn% hiov2DGi1BTfMBaeXatLxBI9gBaerbd9wDYLwzYbItLDharqqtubsr% 4rNCHbGeaGqiVu0Je9sqqrpepC0xbbL8F4rqaqFfpeea0df9GqVa0-% aq0dXdarVe0-yr0RYxir-dbba9q8aq0-qq-He9q8qqQ8fq0-vr0-vr% Y-bdbiqaaeGaciGaaiaabeqaamaabaabaaGcbaGaamyqamaaCaaale% qajeaObaGaeyySdegaaOGaeyypa0JaamyqamaaBaaajeaWbaGaaeyA% aaWcbeaajaaOdaWgaaqcbaAaamaaBaaajiaObaGaaiiBaaqabaaaje% aObeaakiaacElacaGG3cGaai4TaiaadgeadaWgaaqcbaCaaiaabMga% aSqabaGcdaWgaaWcbaWaaSbaaKGaahaacaGGUbaameqaaaWcbeaaaa% a!4897!\[A^\alpha = A_{\rm{i}} _{_l } \cdot\cdot\cdotA_{\rm{i}} _{_n } \], where =(i 1,...,i n) with j and set ||=n. For each compact Lie algebra ? and each real representation V of ? we consider a two-step nilpotent Lie group N(?,V), endowed with a natural left-invariant riemannian metric. The homogeneous nilmanifolds so obtained are precisely those which are naturally reductive. We study some geometric aspects of these manifolds, finding many parallels with H-type groups. We also obtain, within the class of manifolds N(?,V), the first examples of non-weakly symmetric, naturally reductive spaces and new examples of non-commutative naturally reductive spaces. In this paper we use functional analytical techniques to determine the differential equation satisfied by the eigenvalues of a smooth family of Fredholm operators, obtained from the index form along a Lorentzian geodesic. The formula is then applied to the study of the evolution of the index function, and, using a perturbation argument, we prove a version of the classical Morse index theorem for stationary Lorentzian manifolds.
