Laguerre geometry of surfaces in is given in the book of Blaschke [Vorlesungen über Differentialgeometrie, Springer, Berlin Heidelberg New York (1929)], and has been studied by Musso and Nicolodi [Trans. Am. Math. soc. 348, 4321–4337 (1996); Abh. Math. Sem. Univ. Hamburg 69, 123–138 (1999); Int. J. Math. 11(7), 911–924 (2000)], Palmer [Remarks on a variation problem in Laguerre geometry. Rendiconti di Mathematica, Serie VII, Roma, vol. 19, pp. 281–293 (1999)] and other authors. In this paper we study Laguerre differential geometry of hypersurfaces in . For any umbilical free hypersurface with non-zero principal curvatures we define a Laguerre invariant metric g on M and a Laguerre invariant self-adjoint operator : TM → TM, and show that is a complete Laguerre invariant system for hypersurfaces in with n≥ 4. We calculate the Euler–Lagrange equation for the Laguerre volume functional of Laguerre metric by using Laguerre invariants. Using the Euclidean space , the semi-Euclidean space and the degenerate space we define three Laguerre space forms , and and define the Laguerre embeddings and , analogously to what happens in the Moebius geometry where we have Moebius space forms S n , and (spaces of constant curvature) and conformal embeddings and [cf. Liu et al. in Tohoku Math. J. 53, 553–569 (2001) and Wang in Manuscr. Math. 96, 517–534 (1998)]. Using these Laguerre embeddings we can unify the Laguerre geometry of hypersurfaces in , and . As an example we show that minimal surfaces in or are Laguerre minimal in .C. Wang Partially supported by RFDP and Chuang-Xin-Qun-Ti of NSFC.  相似文献

New solutions of twist equations for the universal enveloping algebras U (An−1) are found. These solutions can be represented as products of full chains of extended Jordanian twists Abelian factors (“rotations”) , and sets of quasi-Jordanian twists . The latter are generalizations of Jordanian twists (with carrier b2) for special deformed extensions of the Hopf algebra U (b2). The carrier subalgebra for the composition is a nonminimal parabolic subalgebra in A n−1 such that . The parabolic twisting elements are obtained in an explicit form. Details of the construction are illustrated by considering the examples n = 4 and n = 11. Bibliography: 21 titles. This work is concerned with the fast diffusion equation , where 0 < m < 1 and κ < 1. A global positive solution is said to quench regularly in infinite time if for some bounded sequence and some , and if for all compact . It is shown that such regular quenching in infinite time occurs for a large class of initial data if κ > m , whereas it is impossible in one space dimension when κ < −m and the solution is radially symmetric and nondecreasing for x > 0.   相似文献

Let be a smooth family of surfaces whose general fibre is a smooth surface of ℙ3 and whose special fibre has two smooth components, intersecting transversally along a smooth curve R. We consider the Universal Severi-Enriques variety on . The general fibre of is the variety of curves on in the linear system with k cusps and δ nodes as singularities. Our problem is to find all irreducible components of the special fibre of . In this paper, we consider only the cases (k, δ) = (0, 1) and (k, δ) = (1, 0). In particular, we determine all singular curves on the special fibre of which, counted with the right multiplicity, are a limit of 1-cuspidal curves on the general fibre of .   相似文献

Let C be the space of continuous 2π-periodic functions f with the norm . Let , where , be the Jackson polynomials of a function f, E n (f) be the best approximation of f in the space C by trigonometric polynomials of order n, and let , be the function trigonometrically conjugate to the primitive of f. Several L -estimates are obtained for in terms of and , where are determined by m. If p = 2, then the estimates are given with explicit constants. However, if p ≠ 2, it is difficult to derive explicit constants except in two simple cases. Applicability to PDE’s is illustrated.  相似文献

Let denote the set of simultaneously - approximable points in and denote the set of multiplicatively ψ-approximable points in . Let be a manifold in . The aim is to develop a metric theory for the sets and analogous to the classical theory in which is simply . In this note, we mainly restrict our attention to the case that is a planar curve . A complete Hausdorff dimension theory is established for the sets and . A divergent Khintchine type result is obtained for ; i.e. if a certain sum diverges then the one-dimensional Lebesgue measure on of is full. Furthermore, in the case that is a rational quadric the convergent Khintchine type result is obtained for both types of approximation. Our results for naturally generalize the dimension and Lebesgue measure statements of Beresnevich et al. (Mem AMS, 179 (846), 1–91 (2006)). Moreover, within the multiplicative framework, our results for constitute the first of their type. The research of Victor V. Beresnevich was supported by an EPSRC Grant R90727/01. Sanju L. By sampling the window of a Gabor frame for belonging to Feichtinger’s algebra, , one obtains a Gabor frame for . In this article we present a survey of results by R. Orr and A.J.E.M. Janssen and extend their ideas to cover interrelations among Gabor frames for the four spaces , , and . Some new results about general dual windows with respect to sampling and periodization are presented as well. This theory is used to show a new result of the Kaiblinger type to construct an approximation to the canonical dual window of a Gabor frame for .   相似文献

It is classically known that a real cubic surface in cannot have more than one solitary point (or -singularity, locally given by x 2 + y 2 + z 2 = 0) whereas it can have up to four nodes (or -singularity, locally given by x 2 + y 2 − z 2 = 0). We show that on any surface of degree d ≥ 3 in the maximum possible number of solitary points is strictly smaller than the maximum possible number of nodes. Conversely, we adapt a construction of Chmutov to obtain surfaces with many solitary points by using a refined version of Brusotti’s Theorem. Combining lower and upper bounds, we deduce: , where denotes the maximum possible number of solitary points on a real surface of degree d in . Finally, we adapt this construction to get real algebraic surfaces in with many singular points of type for all k ≥ 1.   相似文献

Computation on compressed strings is one of the key approaches to processing massive data sets. We consider local subsequence recognition problems on strings compressed by straight-line programs (SLP), which is closely related to Lempel–Ziv compression. For an SLP-compressed text of length , and an uncompressed pattern of length n, Cégielski et al. gave an algorithm for local subsequence recognition running in time . We improve the running time to . Our algorithm can also be used to compute the longest common subsequence between a compressed text and an uncompressed pattern in time ; the same problem with a compressed pattern is known to be NP-hard. The main result of this work is a Dancer-type bifurcation result for the quasilinear elliptic problem
((P))
Here, Ω is a bounded domain in denotes the Dirichlet p-Laplacian on , and is a spectral parameter. Let μ1 denote the first (smallest) eigenvalue of −Δ p . Under some natural hypotheses on the perturbation function , we show that the trivial solution is a bifurcation point for problem (P) and, moreover, there are two distinct continua, and , consisting of nontrivial solutions to problem (P) which bifurcate from the set of trivial solutions at the bifurcation point (0, μ1). The continua and are either both unbounded in E, or else their intersection contains also a point other than (0, μ1). For the semilinear problem (P) (i.e., for p = 2) this is a classical result due to E. N. Dancer from 1974. We also provide an example of how the union looks like (for p > 2) in an interesting particular case. Our proofs are based on very precise, local asymptotic analysis for λ near μ1 (for any 1 < p < ∞) which is combined with standard topological degree arguments from global bifurcation theory used in Dancer’s original work. Let G be a connected semisimple group over . Given a maximal compact subgroup KG() such that X = G()/K is a Hermitian symmetric domain, and a convenient arithmetic subgroup Γ ⊂ G(), one constructs a (connected) Shimura variety S = S(Γ) = Γ\X. If HG is a connected semisimple subgroup such that H() / K is maximal compact, then Y = H()/K is a Hermitian symmetric subdomain of X. For each gG() one can construct a connected Shimura variety S(H, g) = (H() ∩ g −1Γg)\Y and a natural holomorphic map j g : S(H, g) → S induced by the map H() → G(), hgh. Let us assume that G is anisotropic, which implies that S and S(H, g) are compact. Then, for each positive integer k, the map j g induces a restriction map
In this paper we focus on classical Hermitian domains and give explicit criterions for the injectivity of the product of the maps R g (for g running through G()) when restricted to the strongly primitive (in the sense of Vogan and Zuckerman) part of the cohomology. In the holomorphic case we recover previous results of Clozel and Venkataramana [CV]. We also derive applications of our results to the proofs of new cases of the Hodge conjecture and of new results on the vanishing of the cohomology of some particular Shimura variety.  相似文献

This paper is devoted to the study of uniform energy decay rates of solutions to the wave equation with Cauchy–Ventcel boundary conditions:
where Ω is a bounded domain of (n ≥ 2) having a smooth boundary , such that with , being closed and disjoint. It is known that if a(x) = 0 then the uniform exponential stability never holds even if a linear frictional feedback is applied to the entire boundary of the domain [see, for instance, Hemmina (ESAIM, Control Optim Calc Var 5:591–622, 2000, Thm. 3.1)]. Let be a smooth function; define ω 1 to be a neighbourhood of , and subdivide the boundary into two parts: and . Now, let ω 0 be a neighbourhood of . We prove that if a(x) ≥ a 0 > 0 on the open subset and if g is a monotone increasing function satisfying k|s| ≤ |g(s)| ≤ K|s| for all |s| ≥ 1, then the energy of the system decays uniformly at the rate quantified by the solution to a certain nonlinear ODE dependent on the damping [as in Lasiecka and Tataru (Differ Integral Equ 6:507–533, 1993)]. For the case Θ is the Euclidean ball, this result was first proved by Marstrand in 1955 for Hausdorff measure in the plane (Marstrand in Proc Lond Math Soc 3(4):257–302, 1954) and later for general Radon measures in (Marstrand in Trans Am Math Soc 205:369–392, 1964).  相似文献
