Optical measurements on crystals in the series SnSxSe2?x for 0 ? x ? 2, have yielded information on the changes in the ordinary refractive index ΔnΔT and the energy gap ΔEgΔT in the temperature range 125–425 K. The coefficient ΔnΔT has values +40 to +160 × 10?6K?1 and this confirms that covalent bonding predominantly exists in these materials. The coefficient ΔEgΔT remains fairly consistent for all values of x with an average value of -8.0×10-4eV K-1.  相似文献

The scale cross section sdσdxp for inclusive charged-particle production in e+e? annihilation has been studied for c.m. energies W between 12.0 and 36.7 GeV. Scale breaking is observed. For xp>0.2 the cross section decreases by ≈20% when W increases from 14 to 35 GeV. The production angular distribution was used to separate the longitudinal and transverse cross-section contributions and to determine the ratio of the structure functions mW1 and vW2.  相似文献

In a search for resonances coupled to the p? system, we have studied π?p interactions at 16 GeV/c giving a forward antiproton, using the Omega spectrometer at CERN. In the final states involving a p, p and π? we observe a 5.6 (6.3) standard deviation enhancement in the p? mass spectrum at (2.95 ± 0.01) GeV with a width consistent with the resolution (σ = 15 MeV). The production cross section × branching ratio is estimated to be of the order 1 μb. The data are consistent with a resonance decaying partly via intermediate pp final states.  相似文献

Data are presented on a high mass I 32Δ resonance produced in 10 GeV/c K+p interactions. The mass and width of the resonance, determined by a maximum likelihood fit to the pπ+ spectrum in the final state K+pπ+π?, are 1895±15 MeV/c2230±50 MeV/c2 respectively. The differential cross sections, dσ/dt, for the quasi two-body final states K1(890)Δ(1236) and K1(890)Δ(1900) are well described by the one pion exchange model. In addition the moments of the Gottfried-Jackson angular distribution of the pπ+ system agree with those computed from on-shell π+p elastic scattering data. We conclude that the two final states are produced mainly by π exchange and associate the structure observed in the moments up to NH(6,0) in the 1900 MeV region with the 72+ Regge recurrence of the Δ(1236). The dominant decay mode of the resonance is Δ++(1900)→pπ+ but decays to pπ+π0 and nπ+π+ are also observed. Cross sections are determined for the production of the quasi two-body final states K1(890)Δ(1236), K1(890) Δ(1900), K1(1420)Δ(1236) and K1(1420)Δ(1900).  相似文献

This is an attempt to describe all existing data on neutrino production of single pions in the resonance region up to W = 2 GeV in terms of the relativistic quark model of Feynman, Kislinger and Ravndal (FKR). We considered single pion production to be mediated by all interfering resonances below 2 GeV. A simple noninterfering, nonresonant background of isospin 12 was added. It improved agreement with experiment, particularly in the ratio of isospin amplitudes in charged current reactions, at the expense of one additional constant. All total cross sections, cross section ratios and W-distributions are well reproduced at low and high energies, with charged and neutral currents (supposing the Salam-Weinberg theory with sin2θw14 to be correct), and for neutrinos and antineutrinos, giving predictions where data are lacking. New predictions have been made for complex angular distributions in Nπ channels exhibiting strong interference between neighbouring resonances. These are sensitive (for 1.1 GeV ? W ? 1.5 GeV) to the sign of the Roper resonance P11(1450) which is controversial in photoproduction experiments.  相似文献

The ESR of the system Yb: AuxAg1?x has been investigated for 0.7 ? x ? 1. The g-shift (Δg) and the temperature derivative of the linewidth (ΔHΔT) increase with decreasing Au concentration. For T ? 2°K effects in (ΔHΔT) are observed, which are attributed to the Kondo effect.  相似文献

Tensor polarisation observables in intermediate energy (d, 2p) charge exchange on 0+ nuclei are investigated. It is shown that for small excitation energies of the di-proton the polarisation can help to distinguish between 0?, 1? and 2? final nuclear states produced through ΔL = 1, ΔS = 1 transitions. The information to be obtained is similar to that inherent in (p, n) spin transfer experiments but the deutron-induced experiments should have much higher efficiency.  相似文献

The reactions (1) K?p → K+K?Λ and (2) K?pppΛ have been studied on samples of 109 and 64 events, respectively, at 10 GeV/c and 125 and 69 events at 16 GeV/c, reasonably free from contaminations. The investigation of the first reaction uses also 84 events of the K0K0Λ final state at 10 GeV/c. Analysis of the Van Hove plots indicates that the K+K?Λ and ppΛ final states are produced by two main mechanisms: (i) a ΔQ = 0 process, with a strong diffractive component near threshold, involving the dissociations p → K+Λ in reaction (1) and K?pΛ in reaction (2) and (ii) a ΔQ = 1 process involving hypercharge exchange, and producing K+K? and pp systems in reactions (1) and (2), respectively, recoiling off the Λ. With increasing energy, this hypercharge exchange process decreases slowly when K+K? is produced, but fast where the production of pp, violating the Zweig rule, occurs.  相似文献

In a single-arm magnetic spectrometer experiment at the CERN Intersecting Storage Rings (ISR), a prominent diffractive enhancement is observed for inclusive production of (pπ+π?) systems near x ~ 1 at √s = 53 and 35 GeV. In testing limiting fragmentation and scaling for this system, inclusive pπ+π? diffractive excitation into a fixed invariant mass range is found to possess a cross-section independent of s to within (3 ± 5)%. The main component in the (pπ+π?) system is Δ(1236)π, with a charge structure compatible with the break-up of an isotopic spin 12 system.  相似文献

Starting from a decomposition of the Hamiltonian H(x) of the nuclear many-body problem in the form H(x) = H0 + xV, where H0 is a shell-model Hamiltonian, V the residual interaction, and x a strength parameter, we introduce a general effective interaction W(x) describing the interaction of nucleons within a shell, and the associated effective operators A?(x). We display some properties of these operators. From a particular choice of W(x) we obtain the expressions introduced earlier by several authors. The convergence of the expansions for W(x) and A?(x) in powers of x is investigated. It is shown that W(x) and A?(x) are holomorphic in a domain of the complex x-plane including the point x = 0. With the help of a generalization of the von Neumann-Wigner noncrossing rule, we exhibit the nature of the common singularity of W(x) and A?(x) which is closest to the origin and thus defines the radius r0 of convergence of the expansions of W and A?. It is shown that r0 is unaffected by the cancellation of unlinked diagrams. A criterion of consistency is established, which shows that most of the practical calculations of W lead to results which are inconsistent with the definition of W.  相似文献

Peak widths of elementary first and second order desorption transients are explicitly determined as a series in EkTp for an arbitrary temperature sweep function T(t). The inversion of the series has allowed the activation energy of a desorption process of known order to be determined from the peak width ΔW and peak temperature Tp of a single desorption transient for any T(t). This has the feature of making all temperature sweep functions equivalent as far as extracting kinetic information from a desorption transient.  相似文献

The two-jet cross section measured in the UA1 apparatus at the CERN pp Collider has been analysed in terms of the centre-of-mass scattering angle θ and the scaled longitudinal parton momenta x1 and x2. The angular distribution dσ/d cos σ rises rapidly as cos → 1, independent of x2 and x2, as expected in vector gluon theories (QCD). The differential cross section in x1 and x2 is consistent with factorization and provides a measurement of the proton structure function F(x) = G(x) + 49[Q(x) + Q(x)] at values of the four-momentum transfer squared, -t? ≈ 2000 GeV2. Over the range x = 0.10?0.80 the structure function shows an exponential x dependence and may be parametrized by the form F(x) = 6.2 exp (?9.5x).  相似文献

The X-ray photoelectron spectra of Co, Ni and Cu 2p levels for samples of MxMg1-xO (M = Co, Ni, Cu), CoO, NiO and CuO were compared. The binding energies of metal 2p32 levels did not change with their concentration. The shake-up satellite main peak intensity ratios and FWHM of metal 2p levels for Co2+ and Cu2+ in MgO were smaller than those for CoO and CuO. The Ni 2p32 spectrum for Ni2+ in MgO had no shoulder, unlike NiO. Results indicate that next nearest neighbor ions (metal ions) may influence the final states after photoelectron ejection.  相似文献

By analyzing thick-target excitation functions of the Ep = 3906 keV23Na(p, γ) resonance we have determined Γc.m ≦ 530+40?70 eV for the width of the lowest T = 2 state of 24Mg. The beam energy resolution function was measured using a narrow 27Al(p, γ) resonance at Ep = 3671 keV, for which we obtain Γc.m. = 180 ±50 eV.  相似文献

A new method of determining the nuclear level density is presented. This method is based on the statistical analysis of the partial width fluctuations appearing in an excitation function of the radiative proton capture. The method was applied in the case of the 88Sr(p, γ0)89Y and89Y(p, γ0)90Zr reactions. The density of levels with spin 1? in 90Zr and the densities of levels with spins 12+ and 32+ in 89Y at excitation energies from 10.9 to 11.6 MeV and from 9.3 to 10.8 MeV respectively, were determined with an uncertainty of about 35%.  相似文献

The investigation of the emission infrared spectrum of P2 was performed with a high resolution Fourier spectrometer. Two new electronic systems were attributed to b3Πgw3Δu and A1ΠgW1Δu transitions. The molecular parameters are obtained by a complete fitting procedure. The main equilibrium constants of the new states are (in cm?1):

The processes p+p → W±, Z0+0,1,2 jets are studied in the light of recent observations of events with large missing transverse momentum at the CERN pp collider. We find that a nontrivial number of such events can arise from the leptonic decays Z0 → νν and W± → ?±ν where the charged lepton escapes identification. In both cases the number of events with one jet and with two jets are comparable. By correlating these decay modes with those where the leptons are observed we can, in principle, eliminate the theoretical uncertainties inherent in such perturbative QCD calculations.  相似文献

We have evaluated the parity-violation contribution in atoms in the framework of SO(3) gauge theory. Various hadronic models have been used: first, for simplicity, the unrealistic five-quark one, next, others involving three ordinary SU(3) triplets for which all unwanted strangeness-changing processes are suppressed, up to order orGαΔM2MW2. In the free quark approximation, we obtain quite similar parity-violation effects which are proportional to GαΔM2MW2 (ΔM2 is the difference of squared masses of leptons (MX02 ? Mν2 = MX02), or of quarks (ΔMq2)). Namely, in large atoms (Z ? 1) the electronic contribution which is proportional to
MX02MW2Zσ?·p?m?
gives the largest effect (σ?, p?and m?are the spin, momentum operators and mass of the lepton). Parity-violating effects in SO(3) gauge models are ?10?4 smaller than those evaluated in the Weinberg theory with a neutral parity-violating current and will remain undetectable in the near future.  相似文献
