The effect of an induced magnetic field on peristaltic flow of an incompressible Carreau fluid in an asymmetric channel is analyzed. Perturbation solution to equations under long wavelength approximation is derived in terms of small Weissenberg number. Expressions have been constructed for the stream function, the axial induced magnetic field, the magnetic force function, the current density distribution and the temperature. Trapping phenomenon is examined with respect to emerging parameters of interest.  相似文献

In this article, we carry out the effect of an induced magnetic field on the peristaltic transport of an incompressible conducting third order fluid in a symmetric channel. The flow analysis has been developed for low Reynolds number and long wave length approximation. Analytical solutions have been established for the axial velocity, stream function, magnetic force function, and axial‐induced magnetic field. The effects of pertinent parameters on the pressure rise per wavelength are investigated by using numerical integration. Besides this, we study the effect of these parameters on the pressure gradient and axial induced magnetic field. The phenomena of trapping and pumping are also discussed. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq, 2010  相似文献

This paper looks at the influence of the induced magnetic field on peristaltic transport through a uniform infinite annulus filled with an incompressible viscous and Newtonian fluid. The present theoretical model may be considered as mathematical representation to the movement of conductive physiological fluids in the presence of the endoscope tube (or catheter tube). The inner tube is uniform, rigid, while the outer tube has a sinusoidal wave traveling down its wall. The flow analysis has been developed for low Reynolds number and long wave length approximation. Exact solutions have been established for the axial velocity, stream function, axial induced magnetic field, current distribution and the magnetic force function. The effects of pertinent parameters on the pressure rise and frictional forces on the inner and outer tubes are investigated by means of numerical integrations, also we study the effect of these parameters on the pressure gradient, axial induced magnetic field and current distribution. The phenomena of trapping is further discussed.  相似文献

Two asymptotic methods based upon Stokes and long-wave approximations are developed for the study of transporting a heat-conducting fluid through a flexible tube by peristaltic motion of the tube well. The asymptotic methods are justified rigorously and the existence of a unique generalized solution of the governing equations is proved if a condition in terms of the Reynolds number and other nondimensional parameters is satisfied.  相似文献

This paper is devoted to the study of peristaltic flow of a fourth grade fluid in a channel under the considerations of long wavelength and low-Reynolds number. The flow is examined in a wave frame of reference moving with velocity of the wave. The analytic solution has been obtained in the form of a stream function from which the axial velocity and axial pressure gradient have been derived. The results for the pressure rise and frictional force per wavelength have also been computed numerically. The computational results indicate that the pressure rise and frictional force per wavelength are increased in case of non-Newtonian fluid when compared with Newtonian fluid. Several graphs of physical interest are displayed and discussed.  相似文献

The effect of variable viscosity on the peristaltic flow of a Newtonian fluid in an asymmetric channel has been discussed. Asymmetry in the flow is induced due to travelling waves of different phase and amplitude which propagate along the channel walls. A long wavelength approximation is used in the flow analysis. Closed form analytic solutions for velocity components and longitudinal pressure gradient are obtained. The study also shows that, in addition to the effect of mean flow parameter, the wave amplitude also effect the peristaltic flow. This effect is noticeable in the pressure rise and frictional forces per wavelength through numerical integration.  相似文献

The present paper investigates phenomena brought about into the classic peristaltic mechanism by inclusion of non-Newtonian effects through a porous space in a channel. The peristaltic motion of a second-order fluid through a porous medium was studied for the case of a planar channel with harmonically undulating extensible walls. The system of the governing nonlinear PDE is solved by using the perturbation method to second-order in dimensionless wavenumber. The analytic solution has been obtained in the form of a stream function from which the axial pressure gradient has been derived. The flow is investigated in a wave frame of reference moving with velocity of the wave. Numerical calculations are carried out for the pressure rise and frictional force. The features of the flow characteristics are analyzed by plotting graphs and discussed in detail.  相似文献

The interaction of purely periodic mean flow with a peristaltic induced flow is investigated within the framework of a two-dimensional analogue. The mathematical model considers a viscous incompressible fluid under the effect of transverse magnetic field, taking into account the effect of Hall currents for a magneto-fluid with suspended particles between infinite parallel walls on which a sinusoidal traveling wave is imposed. A perturbation solution to the complete set of Navier-Stokes equations is found for the case in which the frequency of the traveling wave and that of the imposed pressure gradient are equal. The ratio of the traveling wave amplitude to channel width is assumed to be small. For this case a first order steady flow is found to exist, as contrasted to a second order effect in the absence of the imposed periodic pressure gradient. The effect of Hall parameter, Hartmann number and the various parameters included in the problem are discussed numerically.  相似文献

The effect of a third-order fluid on the peristaltic transport in an asymmetric channel is studied. The wavelength of the peristaltic waves is assumed to be large compared to the varying channel width, whereas the wave amplitudes need not be small compared to the varying channel width. The channel asymmetry is produced by choosing the peristaltic wave train on the walls to have different amplitudes and phase. The flow is investigated in a wave frame of reference moving with velocity of the wave. The effects of Deborah number, phase difference, varying channel width and wave amplitudes on the pumping characteristics, streamline pattern and trapping phenomena are investigated. It is observed that the trapping regions increase as the channel becomes more and more symmetric and the trapped bolus volume decreases for increasing Deborah number, phase difference and varying channel width whereas it increases for increasing flow rate and wave amplitudes. Furthermore, the obtained results could also have applications to a range of peristaltic flows for a variety of non-Newtonian fluids such as aqueous solutions of high-molecular weight polyethylene oxide and polyacrylamide.  相似文献

A study is made of the flow engendered in a semi-infinite expanse of an incompressible non-Newtonian fluid by an infinite rigid plate moving with an arbitrary velocity in its own plane. The fluid is considered to be fourth order and electrically conducting. A magnetic field is applied in the transverse direction to the flow. The nonlinear problem is solved for constant magnetic field analytically using reduction methods as well as numerically and expressions for the velocity field are obtained. Limiting cases of interest can be deduced by choosing suitable parametric values.  相似文献

The peristaltic flow of a Jeffrey fluid in a vertical porous stratum with heat transfer is studied under long wavelength and low Reynolds number assumptions. The nonlinear governing equations are solved using perturbation technique. The expressions for velocity, temperature and the pressure rise per one wave length are determined. The effects of different parameters on the velocity, the temperature and the pumping characteristics are discussed. It is observed that the effects of the Jeffrey number λ1, the Grashof number Gr, the perturbation parameter N = EcPr, and the peristaltic wall deformation parameter ϕ are the strongest on the trapping bolus phenomenon. The results obtained for the flow and heat transfer characteristics reveal many interesting behaviors that warrant further study on the non-Newtonian fluid phenomena, especially the shear-thinning phenomena. Shear-thinning reduces the wall shear stress.  相似文献

In this paper, the influence of magnetic field on the dispersion of a solute in peristaltic flow of an incompressible micropolar fluid is studied as a model of fluid transport in the human intestinal system with wall properties. Long wavelength approximation, Taylor's limiting condition, and dynamic boundary conditions at the flexible walls are used to obtain the average effective dispersion coefficient in the presence of combined homogeneous and heterogeneous chemical reactions. The effects of various pertinent parameters on the effective dispersion coefficient are discussed. Average effective dispersion coefficient increases with amplitude ratio, which implies that dispersion is more in the presence of peristalsis. It also increases with the cross‐viscosity coefficient, heterogeneous chemical reaction rate, and wall parameters. Further, dispersion decreases with micropolar parameter, magnetic parameter, and homogeneous chemical reaction rates. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The effects of variable temperature dependent viscosity on peristaltic flow of Newtonian fluid in an annulus has been investigated with long wave length approximations. A regular perturbation method has been used to obtain explicit form for the velocity, temperature and relation between flow rate and pressure gradient. The expression for the pressure rise, friction force, velocity and temperature were plotted for different values of variable viscosity parameter β, radius ratio, amplitude ratio ?, heat absorption parameter β1, and force convection parameter Gr. It is found that the pressure rise decrease as the viscosity parameter β increases and increases as the radius ratio as ? increases and β decreases.  相似文献

The present study extends the two-dimensional analysis of peristaltic motion to include a compliant wall. The fluid-solid interaction problem is investigated by considering equations of motion of both the fluid and the deformable boundaries. The driving mechanism of the muscle is represented by assuming the channel walls to be compliant. A perturbation solution of the stream function for zeroth, first and second order in a small amplitude ratio is obtained. The phenomenon of the “mean flow reversal” is found to exist both at the center and at the boundaries of the channel. The effect of wall damping, wall elastance and wall tension on the mean axial velocity and reversal flow has been investigated. The numerical results show that the possibility of flow reversal increases by increasing the wall damping and decreases by increasing the wall elastance and wall tension.  相似文献

Peristaltic transport in a two-dimensional non-uniform tube filled with Herschel–Bulkley fluid is studied under the assumptions of long wavelength and low Reynold number. The fluid flow is investigated in the wave frame of reference moving with the velocity of the peristaltic wave. Exact solution for the velocity field, the temperature profile, the stream functions and the pressure gradient are obtained. The physical behavior of τ, n, α and on the pressure rise versus flow rate are discussed through graphs. At the end of the article trapping phenomena for Herschel–Bulkley and also for Newtonian, Bingham and power law (which are the special cases of Herschel–Bulkley fluid) fluid are discussed.  相似文献

Effects of complaint wall properties on the flow of a Newtonian viscous compressible fluid has been studied when the wave propagating (surface acoustic wave, SAW) along the walls in a confined parallel‐plane microchannel is conducted by considering the slip velocity. A perturbation technique has been employed to analyze the problem where the amplitude ratio (wave amplitude/half width of channel) is chosen as a parameter. In the second order approximation, the net axial velocity is calculated for various values of the fluid parameters and wall parameters. The phenomenon of the “mean flow reversal” is found to exist both at the center and at the boundaries of the channel. The effect of damping force, wall tension, and compressibility parameter on the mean axial velocity and reversal flow has been investigated, also the critical values of the tension are calculated for the pertinent flow parameters. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The problem of peristaltic transport induced by sinusoidal waves of a particle-fluid mixture in the presence of a Poiseuille flow, is analysed. The governing equations of motion resulting from the Navier-Stokes equations for both the fluid and particle phases are solved and closed form solutions are obtained for limiting values of Reynolds number, wave number and the Poiseuille flow parameter while the method of Frobenius series solution is used for the general case. It is found that the mean flow is strongly dependent on the Poiseuille flow parameter. The effects of particle concentration in the fluid is well discharged throughout the analysis and the results are compared with the other studies in the literature.  相似文献

This investigation deals with the peristaltic motion of a Carreau fluid in a planar channel by employing long wavelength approximation. Five wave forms are chosen. Explicit solutions of longitudinal velocity and pressure gradient are derived. The pumping and trapping phenomena are properly examined. Comparison is made for the flow characteristics of the various selected wave forms. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq 2010  相似文献

This work is aimed at describing the heat transfer on the peristaltic motion in a porous space. An incompressible and magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) viscous fluid is taken in an asymmetrical channel. Expressions of dimensionless stream function and temperature are obtained analytically by employing long wavelength and low Reynolds number assumptions. The influence of various parameters of interest is seen through graphs on pumping and trapping phenomena and temperature profile.  相似文献
