A cross-line phase-type specimen grating was interrogated by moiré interferometry techniques to produce full-field fringe patterns of three displacement components:U x ,U y , andU 45. ForU 45, sensitivity was 1/1700 mm/fringe (1/43,000 in./fr). Closely packed fringes with much information content were obtained. Fringe patterns of strain components? x ,? y and? 45 were produced by mechanical shearing (or optical differentiation) of the displacement patterns; a shearing distance of only 0.6 mm (0.025 in.) was used. The rosette method yields complete strain information from these three components of normal strain—which were derived from three direct derivatives of displacement. Consequently, the need for cross-derivatives of displacement, which are highly sensitive to accidental rigid-body rotations, is circumvented.  相似文献

This paper presents the application of Moire interferometry in measuring the displacement and strain field at notch-tip and crack-tip before and after crack propagation. The experiment is carried out using a three point bending beam with a notch. TheN x andN y fringe patterns representing displacement field, and the ΔN xx and ΔN γ/Δγ fringe patterns representing the strain field are obtained. The sensitivity of the measured displacement is 0.417 μm per fringe order. The displacement and strain distribution along the sectionx=0 have been worked out according toN x andN γ fringe patterns. A specially constructed hot-wire probe was used to obtain very near-wall velocity measurements in both a fully developed turbulent channel flow and flat plate boundary layer flow. The near-wall hot-wire probe, having been calibrated in a specially constructed laminar flow calibration rig, was used to measure the mean streamwise velocity profile, distributions of streamwise and spanwise intensities of turbulence and turbulence kinetic energy k in the viscous sublayer and beyond; these distributions compare very favorably with available DNS results obtained for channel flow. While low Reynolds number effects were clearly evident for the channel flow, these effects are much less distinct for the boundary layer flow. By assuming the dissipating range of eddy sizes to be statistically isotropic and the validity of Taylor's hypothesis, the dissipation rate ɛ iso in the very near-wall viscous sublayer region and beyond was determined for both the channel and boundary layer flows. It was found that if the convective velocity U c in Taylor's hypothesis was assumed to be equal to the mean velocity  at the point of measurement, the value of (ɛ+ iso)1 thus obtained agrees well with that of (ɛ +)DNS for y + ≥ 80 for channel flow; this suggests the validity of assuming U c= and local isotropy for large values of y +. However, if U c was assumed to be 10.6u τ , the value of (ɛ+ iso)2 thus obtained was found to compare reasonably well with the distribution of (ɛ+ iso)DNS for y +≤ 15. We present a stress intensity factor (SIF) measurement method of cracks using a piezoelectric element and electrostatic voltmeter. In the method, an isotropic piezoelectric element is first adhered near the crack tip. Then, the surface electrodes are attached to the three different positions on the piezoelectric element. The electric potentials of the surface electrodes, which are proportional to the strain sum (ɛxy) on the structural member, are measured by an electrostatic voltmeter during load cycling. Mode I and mode II SIFs of the crack are estimated using the relationship between the SIF and (σxy). The applicability of the proposed method is examined through experiments and numerical analysis.  相似文献

Summary In this paper we look for T-periodic solutions of dynamical systems. Particularly we consider the system whereU ɛC 1(ℝ n x x ℝ, ℝ),U(x, t + T)=U(x,t) ∀ x n , ∀t ɛ ℝ T>0. We assume that the problem is asymptotically linear with a bounded nonlinearity. Under a resonance assumption, we find a multiplicity of T-periodic solutions for T large enough.

This paper documents an experimental study that was conducted to demonstrate the sensitivity of the shear gage to the presence of normal strains. The shear gage is a specially designed strain gage rosette that measures the average shear strain in the test section of notched specimens such as the losipescu, Arcan and compact shear specimens. These specimens can have complicated stress states with high shear and normal strain gradients. To evaluate the sensitivity of the shear gage to normal strains, shear gages were tested on an Arcan specimen. The Arcan specimen is a notched specimen that can be loaded in pure shear (90 deg), pure tension (0 deg) and at intermediate 15- deg increments. The shear modulus for an aluminum specimen was determined at each of these loading angles. It was found that the gages display nearly zero sensitivity to normal strains ( x, y). Moiré interferometry was used to document the shear and normal strain distributions in the test section and to provide an independent method for determining the average shear strain. These results reinforce the robust nature of testing with the shear gage.  相似文献

A method is presented that determines photoelastic isochromatic values at the nodal points of a grid mesh which in turn is generated by a computer program that accepts digitized input. Values of σ1 - σ2 are computed from the digitized fringe orders. The Laplace equation is solved to separate the principal stresses at each nodal point. The method is extended to digitize isoclinics. Subsequently, σ x - σ y and τ xy are calculated to be used as starting values for the solution of the pertaining partial differential equations to enhance convergence. For further accelerating the rate of convergence, superfluous boundary conditions are added from the digitized data; significant improvement is demonstrated. Estimated values of σ x - σ y from the digitized data are further used in conjunction with the solution of the Laplace equation to determine the state of stress without solving the boundary value problems. A metal-matrix specimen was investigated using moiré interferometry with 2400 ℓ/mm (60,960 ℓ/in.). The specimen was a 6-ply [0/±45] s boron-aluminum tensile coupon with a central slot. The unequal deformations in fibers and matrix were evident. Special attention was given to a plastic slip zone in the matrix. Normal and shear strains were calculated in the slip zone; the shear-strain concentration factor rose dramatically with the onset of plastic slip and continued to rise gradually with load to 95 percent of the failure load. The precipitous change from maximum tensile strain in one fiber to zero tensile strain in the neighboring fiber was accommodated by the very high shear strain in the matrix in the slip zone. Experimental considerations are discussed: shear strains are independent of rigid-body rotations; simplified strain calculations are justified; averaging across the narrow slip region and the influence of finite thickness of the specimen grating contribute to underestimation of peak strains. Paper was presented at the 1986 SEM Spring Conference on Experimental Mechanics held in New Orleans, LA on June 8–13.  相似文献

An approach combining least squares methods and finite element methods (FEM) is presented for subsequent photoelastic stress analysis of orthogonal 3D textile composites withR and α obtained in Part 1. Through this approach, these photoelastic stresses are obtained over a region of interest as if the composites were homogeneous materials. The least squares method is used for requiring the solution strain fields to best correlate with the distribution of the two photoelastic strain data of ɛ x − ɛ y and γ xy calculated directly from the measuredR and α. The FEM uses the homogenized composite properties to construct the nodal force equilibrium equations as constraints in the least squares formulation. As a result of combining this least squares method and FEM with lagrange multipliers, a linear system of equations is formulated with the unknown nodal displacements. Once these nodal displacements are solved, the strains and stresses can be calculated through FEM formulations. This approach is tested with the two experimental results completed in Part 1 for the aluminum and composite plates. The stresses obtained for the aluminum plate show close agreement with those obtained with the plain FEM computation. In the case of the orthogonal 3D composite plate, the local variations as observed inR and α are already necessarily eliminated from these solved photoelastic stresses. Furthermore, these stresses also match well with those computed with the plain FEM from the homogenized composite properties.  相似文献

Tensile impact experiments of EC8.0−24×7 glass fiber bundles at different low temperaturesT(14°C, −40°C and −10°C) and strain rates ɛ were carried out, and complete stress-strain curves were obtained. Within the range of the experiment temperatures and strain rates, it is found that the initial modulusE, the ultimate strength σmax and the unstable strain ɛ b of the glass fiber bundles all increase with ɛ at an identicalT. At an identical ɛ, with the decrease ofT, E and σmax increase; but ɛ b increases when 10°C>T>−40°C and decreases when −40°C>T>−100°C. The strain-rate- and temperature-dependent bimodal Weibull statistical constitutive theory was adopted for the statistical analysis of the experimental results, and the Weibull parameters of single fiber were obtained. The results show that the bimodal Weibull distribution function is suitable to represent the strength distribution of the glass fiber at low temperature and different strain rates. The differences in the mechanical properties between EC8.0−24×7 and EC5.5−12 ×14 glass fiber bundles were also discussed. The streamwise evolution of an inclined circular cylinder wake was investigated by measuring all three velocity and vorticity components using an eight-hotwire vorticity probe in a wind tunnel at a Reynolds number Red of 7,200 based on free stream velocity (U ) and cylinder diameter (d). The measurements were conducted at four different inclination angles (α), namely 0°, 15°, 30°, and 45° and at three downstream locations, i.e., x/d = 10, 20, and 40 from the cylinder. At x/d = 10, the effects of α on the three coherent vorticity components are negligibly small for α ≤ 15°. When α increases further to 45°, the maximum of coherent spanwise vorticity reduces by about 50%, while that of the streamwise vorticity increases by about 70%. Similar results are found at x/d = 20, indicating the impaired spanwise vortices and the enhancement of the three-dimensionality of the wake with increasing α. The streamwise decay rate of the coherent spanwise vorticity is smaller for a larger α. This is because the streamwise spacing between the spanwise vortices is bigger for a larger α, resulting in a weak interaction between the vortices and hence slower decaying rate in the streamwise direction. For all tested α, the coherent contribution to [`(v2)] \overline{{v^{2}}} is remarkable at x/d = 10 and 20 and significantly larger than that to [`(u2)] \overline{{u^{2}}} and [`(w2)]. \overline{{w^{2}}}. This contribution to all three Reynolds normal stresses becomes negligibly small at x/d = 40. The coherent contribution to [`(u2)] \overline{{u^{2}}} and [`(v2)] \overline{{v^{2}}} decays slower as moving downstream for a larger α, consistent with the slow decay of the coherent spanwise vorticity for a larger α.  相似文献

Non-Darcy mixed convection in a porous medium from horizontal surfaces with variable surface heat flux of the power-law distribution is analyzed. The entire mixed convection regime is divided into two regions. The first region covers the forced convection dominated regime where the dimensionless parameter ζ f =Ra* x /Pe2 x is found to characterize the effect of buoyancy forces on the forced convection with K U /ν characterizing the effect of inertia resistance. The second region covers the natural convection dominated regime where the dimensionless parameter ζ n =Pe x /Ra*1/2 x is found to characterize the effect of the forced flow on the natural convection, with (K U /ν)Ra*1/2 x /Pe x characterizing the effect of inertia resistance. To obtain the solution that covers the entire mixed convection regime the solution of the first regime is carried out for ζ f =0, the pure forced convection limit, to ζ f =1 and the solution of the second is carried out for ζ n =0, the pure natural convection limit, to ζ n =1. The two solutions meet and match at ζ f n =1, and R * h =G * h . Also a non-Darcy model was used to analyze mixed convection in a porous medium from horizontal surfaces with variable wall temperature of the power-law form. The entire mixed convection regime is divided into two regions. The first region covers the forced convection dominated regime where the dimensionless parameter ξ f =Ra x /Pe x 3/2 is found to measure the buoyancy effects on mixed convection with Da x Pe x /ɛ as the wall effects. The second region covers the natural convection dominated region where ξ n =Pe x /Ra x 2/3 is found to measure the force effects on mixed convection with Da x Ra x 2/3/ɛ as the wall effects. Numerical results for different inertia, wall, variable surface heat flux and variable wall temperature exponents are presented. Received on 8 July 1996  相似文献

Summary The problem of heat transfer for laminar flow between two infinite parallel plates, yl, x≤0, kept at a constant temperature T 0, and yl, x≥0, kept at a different constant temperature T s is formulated to take into account the effect of heat diffusion on the incident fluid. This has been achieved by obtaining solutions of the energy equation for the regions x≤0 and x≥0 and by imposing continuity conditions on the temperature and its derivative at the junction x=0. It is found that at small Péclét numbers the incident temperature is affected by the diffusion of heat from the right (x>0) to the left (x<0). This effect is negligible for large Péclét numbers (Pe ∼ O(1000)). Further the temperature of the incident fluid at x=0 cannot be taken as constant (=T 0) if the heat generated by viscous dissipation is taken into consideration. Detailed solutions are given for Pe=1. Mean-mixed temperatures and local Nusselt numbers for x>0 and x<0 are tabulated and shown graphically.  相似文献

We find conditions for the unique solvability of the problem u xy (x, y) = f(x, y, u(x, y), (D 0 r u)(x, y)), u(x, 0) = u(0, y) = 0, x ∈ [0, a], y ∈ [0, b], where (D 0 r u)(x, y) is the mixed Riemann-Liouville derivative of order r = (r 1, r 2), 0 < r 1, r 2 < 1, in the class of functions that have the continuous derivatives u xy (x, y) and (D 0 r u)(x, y). We propose a numerical method for solving this problem and prove the convergence of the method. __________ Translated from Neliniini Kolyvannya, Vol. 8, No. 4, pp. 456–467, October–December, 2005.  相似文献

The effects of turbulence modeling on the prediction of equilibrium states of turbulent buoyant shear flows were investigated. The velocity field models used include a two-equation closure, a Reynolds-stress closure assuming two different pressure-strain models and three different dissipation rate tensor models. As for the thermal field closure models, two different pressure-scrambling models and nine different temperature variance dissipation rate ɛτ) equations were considered. The emphasis of this paper is focused on the effects of the ɛτ-equation, of the dissipation rate models, of the pressure-strain models and of the pressure-scrambling models on the prediction of the approach to equilibrium turbulence. Equilibrium turbulence is defined by the time rate of change of the scaled Reynolds stress anisotropic tensor and heat flux vector becoming zero. These conditions lead to the equilibrium state parameters, given by /ɛ, ττ, , Sk/ɛ and G/ɛ, becoming constant. Here, and τ are the production of turbulent kinetic energy k and temperature variance , respectively, ɛ and ɛτ are their respective dissipation rates, R is the mixed time scale ratio, G is the buoyant production of k and S is the mean shear gradient. Calculations show that the ɛτ-equation has a significant effect on the prediction of the approach to equilibrium turbulence. For a particular ɛτ-equation, all velocity closure models considered give an equilibrium state if anisotropic dissipation is accounted for in one form or another in the dissipation rate tensor or in the ɛ-equation. It is further found that the models considered for the pressure-strain tensor and the pressure-scrambling vector have little or no effect on the prediction of the approach to equilibrium turbulence. In this paper, we demonstrate a new optical method for tiny strain measurements based on the principle of carrier fringes of moire interferometry. A cross-line grating with frequency of 1200 lp/mm is replicated on the specimen surface, and the strain can be deduced from the changes in carrier fringes before and after the deformation of an object. Four coherent laser beams are used to obtain the carrier fringe patterns of field U and V. Both theoretical analysis and numerical simulation indicate that the ideal accuracy of strain can be controlled within a range of ±1με. Case study of a plane extension experiment shows that the measurement accuracy of strain can be controlled within the range of ±10με. The average strain values of every row of field U and every column of field V can be obtained by using this method, and approximated strain of every pixel in the whole-field can be further acquired, and thus it is possible to measure tiny strains occurred in a micro-field. The technology in this paper can provide comprehensive information for analyzing related mechanical content in the field of MEMS.  相似文献

An experimental investigation was carried out to study the enhancement of the heat transfer from a heated flat plate fitted with rectangular blocks of 1 × 2 × 2 cm3 dimensions in a channel flow as a function of Reynolds number (Reh), spacing (S y ) of blocks in the flow direction, and the block orientation angle (α) with respect to the main flow direction. The experiments were performed in a channel of 18 cm width and 10 cm height, with air as the working fluid. For fixed S x =3.81 cm, which is the space between the blocks in transverse to the flow direction, the experimental ranges of the parameters were S y =3.33–4.33 cm, α=0–45°, Reh=7625–31550 based on the hydraulic diameter and the average velocity at the beginning of the test section in the channel. Correlations for Nusselt number were developed, and the ratios of heat transfer with blocks to those with no blocks were given. The results indicated that the heat transfer could be enhanced or reduced depending on the spacing between blocks, and the block orientation angle. The maximum heat transfer rate was obtained at the orientation angle of 45°. Received on 13 December 2000 / Published online: 29 November 2001  相似文献

The influence of a 45 degree leading edge on the development of a thermal boundary layer on a vertical isothermal wall has been investigated by measuring detailed temperature profiles with a He- Ne laser specklegram technique. A digital image processor was employed to improve the accuracy in evaluating the space of fringes, which were constructed from the specklegram. A matrix of five different temperatures and four different vertical locations was considered in the investigation. The leading edge effect was evident in the vicinity of the edge (x = 7.8 mm and 14.2 mm) showing a strong nonsimilarity, and the thermal boundary layers occurred around the leading edge. Classical theory did not properly describe the actual situation near the leading edge, where the theory assumed an abrupt starting of the boundary layer. In an attempt to improve the agreement in temperature profiles, the Grashof number was modified by extending x to an equivalent plate length x 0. In the region farther from the leading edge (x = 50.0 mm), where similarity in temperature profiles was well established, agreement with theory was dramatically improved with substitution of x 0 forx. A linear decrease in the extension ratio x 0/x with Gr x 1/4 i.e., x 0/x= -0.4 · Gr x 1/4 + 12.63 where the Grashof number was based on x, was observed for Grashof numbers up to 8.0 × 105. For Gr x 8.0 × 105, the leading edge effect became negligibly small and the ratio x 0/x approached unity.List of symbols a distance between the test section and the second parabolic mirror (mm) - b distance between the second mirror and the ground glass (mm) - c distance between the ground glass and the focal plane of a camera used for specklegram recording (mm) - d distance between the specklegram negative and the detector plane of a video camera used for the fringe spacing evaluation (mm) - g acceleration of gravity (9.8 m/s2) - Gr x Grashof number based on - Gr x0 Grashof number based on x 0 - H plate height (254 mm) - K Gladstone-Dale constant for air (0.2257 × 10T-3 m3/kg) - L plate width measured along the optical axis (254 mm) - m magnification of the second (parabolic) mirror (b/a) - m magnification of the conventional camera lens - n index of refraction of air - s fringe spacing measured at the image plane of the video camera (mm) - T temperature (K) - x coordinate parallel to the vertical plate (mm) - x 0 equivalent plate-length used to improve the comparison of data with theory (mm) - y coordinate perpendicular to the vertical plate (mm) - z coordinate parallel to the optical axis (mm) - refraction angle of a light ray after passing the test section - coefficient of thermal volumetric expansion (K-1) - incident angle of the refracted ray toward the ground glass - fringe spacing at the focal plane of the camera or the thermal boundary layer thickness (mm) - dimensionless temperature function - dimensionless similarity variable - air density (kg/m3) - wavelength of He = Ne laser (632.8 nm) - speckle translocation on the specklegram - kinematic viscosity of air (m2/s)  相似文献

This study is motivated by problems arising in oceanic dynamics. Our focus is the Navier–Stokes equations in a three-dimensional domain Ωɛ, whose thickness is of order O(ɛ) as ɛ → 0, having non-trivial topography. The velocity field is subject to the Navier friction boundary conditions on the bottom and top boundaries of Ωɛ, and to the periodicity condition on its sides. Assume that the friction coefficients are of order O3/4) as ɛ → 0. It is shown that if the initial data, respectively, the body force, belongs to a large set of H1ɛ), respectively, L2ɛ), then the strong solution of the Navier–Stokes equations exists for all time. Our proofs rely on the study of the dependence of the Stokes operator on ɛ, and the non-linear estimate in which the contributions of the boundary integrals are non-trivial.  相似文献

Crack linkup: An experimental analysis   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
TheT ɛ * integral was used to assess stable crack growth and crack linkup in 0.8 mm thick 2024-T3 aluminum tension specimens with multiple site damage (MSD) under monotonic and cyclic loads. TheT ɛ * values were obtained directly from the recorded moiré fringes on the fracture specimens with and without MSD. TheT ɛ * resistance curves of these fracture specimens of different geometries were in excellent agreement with each other. The results suggest thatT ɛ * is a material parameter which can be used to characterize crack growth and linkup in the absence of large overloading.T ɛ * based crack growth and net-section-yield based crack linkup criteria for MSD specimens are proposed. The crack tip opening angle (CTOA) criterion can also be used to correlate crack growth larger than 2 mm.  相似文献
