We perform simulations of an effective theory of SU(2) Wilson lines in three dimensions. Our action includes a kinetic term, the one-loop perturbative potential for the Wilson line, a non-perturbative “fuzzy-bag” contribution and spatial gauge fields. We determine the phase diagram of the theory and confirm that, at moderately weak coupling, the non-perturbative term leads to eigenvalue repulsion in a finite region above the deconfining phase transition.  相似文献

We discuss a model of heterogeneous, inductive rational agents inspired by the El Farol Bar problem and the Minority Game. As in markets, agents interact through a collective aggregate variable — which plays a role similar to price — whose value is fixed by all of them. Agents follow a simple reinforcement-learning dynamics where the reinforcement, for each of their available strategies, is related to the payoff delivered by that strategy. We derive the exact solution of the model in the “thermodynamic” limit of infinitely many agents using tools of statistical physics of disordered systems. Our results show that the impact of agents on the market price plays a key role: even though price has a weak dependence on the behavior of each individual agent, the collective behavior crucially depends on whether agents account for such dependence or not. Remarkably, if the adaptive behavior of agents accounts even “infinitesimally” for this dependence they can, in a whole range of parameters, reduce global fluctuations by a finite amount. Both global efficiency and individual utility improve with respect to a “price taker” behavior if agents account for their market impact.  相似文献

The effects of dangerous irrelevant operators on various types of critical behavior are described, as particular cases of a systematic field theoretic renormalization group treatment. Starting from a general formulation, such cases as the tricritical crossover above three dimensions, hyperscaling above four, and symmetry-breaking by irrelevant operators are considered. The irrelevance discussed is either oftthe “strong type”, identifiable by dimensional analysis, or of the “weak type”, produced by the renormalization group.  相似文献

We use the tapping illumination and synchronous detection in a scanning near-field optical microscopy to obtain a near-field optical signal that is separated from the far-field signal. The illumination light was irradiated from the bent fiber tip vibrating normal to the sample surface. The transmitted light synchronized with the tapping vibration was observed. We outline an important advance in the problem of obtaining a two-dimensional (2D) line list of the most prominent features in a 2D high-resolution NMR spectrum in the presence of noise, when using the Filter Diagonalization Method (FDM) to sidestep limitations of conventional FFT processing. Although respectable absorption-mode spectra have been obtained previously by the artifice of “averaging” several FDM calculations, no 2D line list could be directly obtained from the averaged spectrum, and each calculation produced numerical artifacts that were demonstrably inconsistent with the measured data, but which could not be removed a posteriori. By regularizing the intrinsically ill-defined generalized eigenvalue problem that FDM poses, in a particular quite plausible way, features that are weak or stem from numerical problems are attenuated, allowing better characterization of the dominant spectral features. We show that the K–K spectrum of IIB string on is described by “twisted chiral” superfields, naturally described in “harmonic superspace”, obtained by taking suitable gauge singlets polynomials of the D3-brane boundary superconformal field theory.To each p-order polynomial is associated a massive K–K short representation with states. The quadratic polynomial corresponds to the “supercurrent multiplet” describing the “massless” bulk graviton multiplet.  相似文献

We show that the transport coefficient , describing momentum diffusion for fast jets moving in the quark-gluon plasma, receives large O(g) corrections from plasma effects which we explicitly calculate, at weak coupling. Our approach is based on an “Euclideanization” property of classical physics near the light-cone, which simplifies drastically this calculation and might open up a new possibility for the lattice study of these effects.  相似文献

Coupling constants of nuclear spin systems can be determined from phase modulation of multiplet resonances. Strongly coupled systems such as citrate in prostatic tissue exhibit a more complex modulation than AX connectivities, because of substantial mixing of quantum states. An extreme limit is the coupling of n isochronous spins (An system). It is observable only for directly connected spins like the methylene protons of creatine and phosphocreatine which experience residual dipolar coupling in intact muscle tissue in vivo. We will demonstrate that phase modulation of this “pseudo-strong” system is quite simple compared to those of AB systems. Theory predicts that the spin-echo experiment yields conditions as in the case of weak interactions, in particular, the phase modulation depends linearly on the line splitting and the echo time.  相似文献

Using spatially modulated illumination (SMI) light microscopy it is possible to measure the sizes of fluorescent structures that have an extension far below the conventional optical resolution limit (“subresolution size”). Presently, the sizes are determined as the object extension along the optical axis of the SMI microscope. For this, however, “a priori” assumptions on the fluorochrome distribution (“shape”) within the examined fluorescent structure have to be made. Usually it is assumed that the fluorochrome follows a Gauss-distribution or a spherical distribution. In this report we overcome the necessity to make an assumption on the shape of the fluorochrome distribution. We introduce two new experimentally obtained parameters which allow the determination of a shape measure to describe the spatial distribution of the fluorescent dye. This becomes possible by independent measurements with different excitation wavelengths. As an example, we present shape parameter measurements on individual fluorescent microspheres with a nominal geometrical diameter (“size”) of 190 nm. In the case investigated, the experimental shape correlated well with a homogeneous fluorochrome distribution (“spherical shape”) but not with a variety of other “shapes”.  相似文献

Our recently proposed inertial transformations of the space and time variables based on absolute simultaneity imply the existence of a single isotropic inertial reference system (“privileged system”). We show, however, that aresynchronization of clocks in all inertial systems is possible leading to a different, arbitrarily chosen,isotropic “privileged” system. Such a resynchronization does not modify any one of the empirical consequences of the theory,which is thus compatible with a formulation of the relativity principle weaker than adopted in Einstein’s theory of special relativity.  相似文献

We propose a method for all-optical signal inversion by means of stimulated Raman scattering (SRS). The idea is based on the transference of energy from the logic state #x201C;1#x201D; to the second stokes and making the logic state #x201C;0#x201D; into logic state #x201C;1#x201D; by receiving energy from the pump through SRS. According to the numerical simulation, a continuous wave pump source of LOW at 1453 nm and a few hundred meters of highly nonlinear fiber are required to invert an input signal at 1555 nm. The optical signal is inverted with high on-off contrast ratio.  相似文献

One-electron tunneling through a quantum dot with a strong magnetic field in the direction of the current is studied. The linear magneto-conductance is computed for a model parabolic dot with seven electrons in the intermediate states and for different values of the magnetic field. It is shown that the dot density of states at low excitation energies can be extracted from a precise measurement of the conductance at the upper edge of the Coulomb blockade diamond. We parametrized the density of states with a single “temperature” parameter (in the so called “constant temperature approximation”), and found that this parameter depends very weakly on the magnetic field.  相似文献

We investigated whether an adaptation effect occurs in a virtual environment where an extent of retinal image motion caused by head rotation is modulated depending on the extent of the rotation. We defined the value #x201C;Gain#x201D;, as the ratio of #x201C;the angular velocity of retinal motion in the virtual environment#x201D; to #x201C;the angular velocity of head motion in the real environment#x201D;. Subjects rotated their heads in the adaptation phase in which one of three Gains (0.5, 1.0, and 1.5) was adapted; the phase lasted one period (3 min). Immediately afterwards, they adjusted the Gain to enable them to perceive a #x201C;stable environment#x201D; in the test phase. The results showed that adjusted Gains in the test phase tended to shift to the adaptation Gains. In addition, we tested whether the adaptation effect occurs in the somatic system and whether interocular transfer occurs, and found that the somatic system was not modulated by immersion in the conflicting environment but interocular transfer was observed. These results indicate that our visual stability system can adapt to such virtual environments within short minutes and that the adaptation effect occurs in our binocular visual system.  相似文献

This work presents an experimental demonstration of time-reversal asymmetry of electron states propagating along the boundary separating areas with opposite magnetic fields. For this purpose we have fabricated a hybrid ferromagnet– semiconductor device in the form of a Hall cross with two ferromagnets deposited on top. The magnets generated two narrow magnetic barriers of opposite polarity in the active Hall area. We have observed that if the signs of the barriers are reversed, the bend resistance changes its sign. Using the Landauer–Büttiker theory, we have demonstrated that this is a direct consequence of asymmetric transmission of the “snake” and the “cycloidal” trajectories formed at the boundary separating the regions with opposite magnetic field directions.  相似文献

The quantum localization is known to be responsible for the deep conductivity minima of the quantum Hall effect. In this paper we calculate the localization length as a function of magnetic field at such minima for several models of disorder (“white-noise”, short-range, and long-range random potentials). We find that with the exponent between one and , depending on the model. In particular, for the “white-noise” random potential roughly coincides with the classical cyclotron radius. Our results are in agreement with available experimental data.  相似文献

The intent of this paper is to provide the reader with a detailed summary of the development of the density of states (DOS) functions for two-dimensional systems. Specifically, the DOS is derived for an infinite quantum well, a finite well, and a periodic array of coupled wells (a superlattice). Many authors state that the DOS is “simply …” without references, yet many who are new to the subject of two-dimensional systems may not see the “simplicity,” for instance, of the derivation of the DOS for a superlattice. We also show the relationships between the expressions for each case when the appropriate limits are taken. This comparison shows the consistency that such a general derivation furnishes to each expression.  相似文献

We describe the fabrication and optical properties of a 3λ/2 InGaN/GaN-based microcavity using “upper” and “lower” silica/zirconia mirrors. The fabrication of this structure involved selective removal of an AlInN layer following multistep thinning of a free-standing GaN substrate. Photoluminescence spectra show a narrowing of the excitonic emission from InGaN/GaN quantum wells in the microcavity, giving a cavity quality factor Q exceeding 400.  相似文献

We present a first set of improved selective pulses, obtained with a numerical technique similar to the one proposed by Geen and Freeman. The novelty is essentially a robust and efficient “evolution strategy” which consistently leads, in a matter of minutes, to “solutions” better than those published so far. The other two ingredients are a “cost function,” which includes contributions from peak and average radiofrequency power, and some understanding of the peculiar requirements of each type of pulse. For example, good solutions for self-refocusing pulses and “negative phase excitation pulses” (which yield a maximum signal well after the end of the pulse) are found, as may have been predicted, among amplitude modulated pulses with 270° tip angles. Emphasis is given to the search for solutions with low RF power for selective excitation, saturation, and inversion pulses. Experimental verification of accuracy and power requirements of the pulses has been performed with a 4.7 T Sisco imager.  相似文献

A method is introduced which makes it possible to fabricate non-planar two-dimensional electron gases. Making use of the “epitaxial lift-off” process, patterned, gated and contacted heterostructures are transferred from their crystalline substrate onto small glass tubes with diameters of a few millimeters. The transport properties of two-dimensional electron gases inside these curved semiconductor films are characterized by low-temperature magnetoresistance measurements. In the longitudinal resistance we find weak Shubnikov–de Haas oscillations, which are periodic in B−1. The transverse resistance exhibits well-developed quantum Hall plateaus at low magnetic fields. At high fields, we observe a pronounced breakdown of the Hall effect. The experimental results are compared with simple theoretical models.  相似文献

The growth and morphological evolution of molybdenum-oxide microstructures formed in the high temperature environment of a counter-flow oxy-fuel flame using molybdenum probes is studied. Experiments conducted using various probe retention times show the sequence of the morphological changes. The morphological row begins with micron size objects exhibiting polygonal cubic shape, develops into elongated channels, changes to large structures with leaf-like shape, and ends in dendritic structures. Time of probe–flame interaction is found to be a governing parameter controlling the wide variety of morphological patterns; a molecular level growth mechanism is attributed to their development. This study reveals that the structures are grown in several consecutive stages: material “evaporation and transportation”, “transformation”, “nucleation”, “initial growth”, “intermediate growth”, and “final growth”. XRD analysis shows that the chemical compositions of all structures correspond to MoO2.  相似文献
