We consider the problem of when the real interpolation method respects Banach-algebra structure. Using our results, we show that every weakly compact homomorphism between Banach algebras factors through a reflexive Banach algebra.  相似文献

Using tensor products of Banach couples we study a class of interpolation functors with the property that to every Banach couple of Banach algebras they give an interpolation space which is a Banach algebra. For the real θ,1-method we give a complete answer to the question of when the interpolation space is unital.  相似文献

The extension of Banach Lie-Poisson spaces is studied and linked to the extension of a special class of Banach Lie algebras. The case of W∗-algebras is given particular attention. Semidirect products and the extension of the restricted Banach Lie-Poisson space by the Banach Lie-Poisson space of compact operators are given as examples.  相似文献

We apply the Calderón interpolation methods to Orlicz and weakly Orlicz function spaces with respect to a Banach‐space‐valued measure defined on a σ‐algebra. The results we obtain generalize those in the case of Banach lattices of p‐integrable and weakly p‐integrable functions with respect to such a vector measure.  相似文献

We investigate some subtle and interesting phenomena in the duality theory of operator spaces and operator algebras, and give several applications of the surprising fact that certain maps are always weak*-continuous on dual spaces. In particular, if X is a subspace of a C*-algebra A, and if aA satisfies aXX, then we show that the function x?ax on X is automatically weak* continuous if either (a) X is a dual operator space, or (b) a*XX and X is a dual Banach space. These results hinge on a generalization to Banach modules of Tomiyama's famous theorem on contractive projections onto a C*-subalgebra. Applications include a new characterization of the σ-weakly closed (possibly nonunital and nonselfadjoint) operator algebras, and a generalization of the theory of W*-modules to the framework of modules over such algebras. We also give a Banach module characterization of σ-weakly closed spaces of operators which are invariant under the action of a von Neumann algebra.  相似文献

We answer, by counterexample, several questions concerning algebras of operators on a Hilbert space. The answers add further weight to the thesis that, for many purposes, such algebras ought to be studied in the framework of operator spaces, as opposed to that of Banach spaces and Banach algebras. In particular, the ‘nonselfadjoint analogue’ of a w*-algebra resides naturally in the category of dual operator spaces, as opposed to dual Banach spaces. We also show that an automatic w*-continuity result in the preceding paper of the authors, is sharp.  相似文献

We investigate interpolation properties of compact bilinear operators under the general real method. Results apply in particular to the real method with a function parameter and also to the complex method in the special case when the couple in the target reduces to a single Banach space or the source is a product of two fixed Banach spaces.  相似文献

We show that the centraliser of the space of n-fold symmetric injective tensors, n≥2, on a real Banach space is trivial. With a geometric condition on the set of extreme points of its dual, the space of integral polynomials we obtain the same result for complex Banach spaces. We give some applications of this results to centralisers of spaces of homogeneous polynomials and complex Banach spaces. In addition, we derive a Banach-Stone Theorem for spaces of vector-valued approximable polynomials.  If points in nontrivial Gleason parts of a uniform Banach algebra have unique representing measures, then the weak and the norm topology coincide on the spectrum. We derive from this several consequences about weakly compact homomorphisms and discuss the case of other uniform Banach algebras arising in complex infinite dimensional analysis. The main objects of study in this paper are Fréchet algebras having an Arens Michael representation in which every Banach algebra is finite dimensional. We shall classify these algebras using a theorem which ensures that the image of any continuous linear map of a Fréchet space of finite type (i.e., for which the defining seminorms have a finite dimensional cokernel) into any Fréchet space is in fact closed. This work is part of the research project of the European Research Training Network Analysis and Operators, contract HPRN-CT 2000 00116, funded by the European Commission.  相似文献

In this paper we study interpolation of bilinear operators between products of Banach spaces generated by abstract methods of interpolation in the sense of Aronszajn and Gagliardo. A variant of bilinear interpolation theorem is proved for bilinear operators from corresponding weighted c0 spaces into Banach spaces of non-trivial the periodic Fourier cotype. This result is then extended to the spaces generated by the well-known minimal and maximal methods of interpolation determined by quasi-concave functions. In the case when a maximal construction is generated by Hilbert spaces, we obtain a general variant of bilinear interpolation theorem. Combining this result with the abstract Grothendieck theorem of Pisier yields further results. The results are applied in deriving a bilinear interpolation theorem for Calderón-Lozanovsky, for Orlicz spaces and an embedding interpolation formula for (E,p)-summing operators.  相似文献

Abstract

The classical Vitali-Hahn-Saks-Nikodym Theorem [5, Thm. I.4.8] gives a limit criterion for when a sequence of strongly additive vector measures on a σ-field of sets having their range in a Banach space can be expected to be uniformly strongly additive. In [16, Cor. 8], Saeki proved that the limit condition on the sequence of vector measures could be substantially weakened as long as the Banach space in play is “good enough”. Saeki's result was based upon his work on a class of set functions too large to have Rosenthal's Lemma at his disposal. In Section 2, we prove Saeki's result with Rosenthal's Lemma at the basis of our work and then augment our characterization of Banach spaces enjoying Saeki's result in [1] with another natural equivalent condition. In Section 3 we extend Saeki's result to Boolean algebras having the Subsequential Interpolation property.  相似文献

Many results on two-sided Banach algebras remain valid form-convex normal ones; in particular, the commutativity modulo the Jacobson radical. Moreover advertible completeness appears to be sufficient.  相似文献

We prove that it is possible for two uniform algebras to have the same scalar interpolating sets, yet still have different matrix-valued interpolating sets.We prove a result for tensor products of uniform algebras that extends Agler's interpolation formula for the bidisk to more general product domains. This is accomplished by introducing a dual object for interpolation problems, which we call a Schur ideal, and proving that the Schur ideal for a tensor product is the intersection of the corresponding Schur ideals.Research supported in part by a grant from the NSF  相似文献

New notions of amenability and contractability are introduced. Examples are given to show that for most of the new notions, the corresponding class of Banach algebras is larger than that for the classical amenable algebras introduced by Johnson. General theory is developed for these notions, and studied for several concrete classes of Banach algebras; special consideration is given to Banach algebras defined on locally compact groups.  相似文献

Summary In the first section of this paper we consider some functional equations which are closely connected to derivations (i.e. additive mappings with the propertyD(ab) = aD(b) + D(a)b) on Banach algebras. IfD is a derivation on some algebraA, then the equationD(a) = – aD(a –1 )a holds for all invertible elementsa A. It seems natural to ask whether this functional equation characterizes derivations among all additive mappings. It is too much to expect an affirmative answer to this question in arbitrary algebras, since it may happen that even in normed algebras the group of all invertible elements contains only scalar multiples of the identity. We try to answer the question above in Banach algebras, since in Banach algebras invertible elements exist in abundance. In the second section of the paper we prove some results concerning representability of quadratic forms by bilinear forms.  相似文献

Let A be a biprojective Banach algebra, and let A-mod-A be the category of Banach A-bimodules. In this paper, for every given -mod-A, we compute all the cohomology groups . Furthermore, we give some cohomological characterizations of biprojective Banach algebras. In particular, we show that the following properties of a Banach algebra A are equivalent to its biprojectivity: (i) for all -mod -A; (ii) for all -mod-A; (iii) for all -mod-A. (Here and are, respectively, the Banach A-bimodules of left, right and double multipliers of X.) Further, if A is a biflat Banach algebra and -mod-A, we compute all the cohomology groups , where is the Banach A-bimodule dual to X. Also, we give cohomological characterizations of biflat Banach algebras. We prove that a Banach algebra A is biflat if and only if any of the following conditions is valid: (i’) for all -mod-A; (ii’) for all -mod-A; (iii’) for all -mod-A. Received 16 June 1998  相似文献

This paper is a continuation of [GK3] where the theory of Invertibility Symbol in Banach algebras was developed. In the present paper we generalize these results for the case when the Invertibility Symbol is defined on a subalgebra of the Banach algebras. The difficulty which arises here in this more general case is connected with the fact that some elements of the subalgebra may have the inverses which do not belong to the subalgebra. This generalization of the theory allows us to study the Fredholm Symbols of linear operators. Applications to subalgebras generated by two idempotents and to algebras generated by singular integral operators are presented.  相似文献

A theory of quantum stochastic processes in Banach space is initiated. The processes considered here consist of Banach space valued sesquilinear maps. We establish an existence and uniqueness theorem for quantum stochastic differential equations in Banach modules, show that solutions in unital Banach algebras yield stochastic cocycles, give sufficient conditions for a stochastic cocycle to satisfy such an equation, and prove a stochastic Lie–Trotter product formula. The theory is used to extend, unify and refine standard quantum stochastic analysis through different choices of Banach space, of which there are three paradigm classes: spaces of bounded Hilbert space operators, operator mapping spaces and duals of operator space coalgebras. Our results provide the basis for a general theory of quantum stochastic processes in operator spaces, of which Lévy processes on compact quantum groups is a special case.  相似文献

Abstract

The notion of σ-amenability for Banach algebras and its related notions were introduced and extensively studied by M.S. Moslehian and A.N. Motlagh in [10]. We develop these notions parallel to the amenability of Banach algebras introduced by B.E. Johnson in [5]. Briefly, we investigate σ-contractibility and σ-biprojectivity of Banach algebras, which are extensions of usual notions of contractibility and biprojectivity, respectively, where σ is a bounded endomorphism of the corresponding Banach algebra. We also give the notion σ-diagonal. Then we verify relations between σ-contractibility, σ-biprojectivity and the existence of a σ-diagonal for a Banach algebra, when σ has dense range or is an idempotent. Moreover, we obtain some hereditary properties of these concepts.  相似文献
