The bifurcation theory of dynamical systems is applied to an integrable nonlinear wave equation. As a result, it is pointed out that the solitary waves of this equation evolve from bell-shaped solitary waves to W/M-shaped solitary waves when wave speed passes certain critical wave speed. Under different parameter conditions, all exact explicit parametric representations of solitary wave solutions are obtained.  相似文献

The dissipative nonlinear Schrödinger equation with a forcing item is derived by using of multiple scales analysis and perturbation method as a mathematical model of describing envelope solitary Rossby waves with dissipation effect and external forcing in rotational stratified fluids. By analyzing the evolution of amplitude of envelope solitary Rossby waves, it is found that the shear of basic flow, Brunt-Vaisala frequency and β effect are important factors in forming the envelope solitary Rossby waves. By employing Jacobi elliptic function expansion method and Hirota's direct method, the analytic solutions of dissipative nonlinear Schrödinger equation and forced nonlinear Schrödinger equation are derived, respectively. With the help of these solutions, the effects of dissipation and external forcing on the evolution of envelope solitary Rossby wave are also discussed in detail. The results show that dissipation causes slowly decrease of amplitude of envelope solitary Rossby waves and slowly increase of width, while it has no effect on the propagation speed and different types of external forcing can excite the same envelope solitary Rossby waves. It is notable that dissipation and different types of external forcing have certain influence on the carrier frequency of envelope solitary Rossby waves.  相似文献

In this paper, we employ the bifurcation method of dynamical systems to study the solitary waves and periodic waves of a generalized Boussinesq equations. All possible phase portraits in the parameter plane for the travelling wave systems are obtained. We introduce an extended nonlinear Schrödinger (ENLS) equation describing the dynamics of modulated waves in a nonlinear discrete electrical transmission line (NLTL) with nonlinear dispersion. We show that this equation admits envelope dark solitary wave with compact support, with width and speed independent of the amplitude, as a solution. Analytical criteria of existence and stability of this solution are derived. In particular, we show that the modulated compact wave may exist in the NLTL depending on the frequency range of the chosen carrier wave, for physically realistic parameters. The stability of compact dark solitary wave is confirmed by numerical simulations of this ENLS equation and the exact equations of the network.  相似文献

Reflections of a Korteweg-de Vries(KdV) solitary wave and an envelope solitary wave are studied by using the particle-in-cell simulation method.Defining the phase shift of the reflected solitary wave,we notice that there is a phase shift of the reflected KdV solitary wave,while there is no phase shift for an envelope solitary wave.It is also noted that the reflection of a KdV solitary wave at a solid boundary is equivalent to the head-on collision between two identical amplitude solitary waves.  相似文献

For the nonlinear wave equation with quartic polynomial potential, bifurcation and solitary waves are investigated. Based on the bifurcation and the energy integral of the two-dimensional dynamical system satisfied by the travelling waves, it is very interesting to find different sufficient and necessary conditions in terms of the bifurcation parameter for the existence and coexistence of bright, dark solitary waves and shock waves. The method of direct integration is developed to give all types of solitary wave solutions. Our method is simpler than other newly developed ones. Some results are similar to those obtained recently for the combined KdV-mKdV equation.  相似文献

A numerical study of beamforming on a horizontal array is performed in a shallow water waveguide where a summer thermocline is perturbed by a time evolving realization of an internal wave field. The components of the internal wave field consist of a horizontally (azimuthally) isotropic, spatially homogeneous contribution, and a horizontally anisotropic, spatially inhomogeneous component. These terms represent a diffuse ("background") internal wave field and a localized solitary wave packet, respectively. Conventional beamforming is performed as a function of time while the internal wave field evolves throughout a computational volume containing the source-receiver paths. Source-receiver orientation with respect to the azimuthally anisotropic component has a significant effect on the beamformed output. When the source-receiver configuration is oriented approximately parallel to the solitary wave crests, beam wander, fading, beam splitting and coherence length degradation occurs in a time-dependent manner as the solitary wave packet passes through the environment. Both horizontal refraction of energy and a time-dependent modal source excitation distribution are responsible for these beamforming effects. In cases where source-receiver orientation is not approximately parallel to the wave crests, these effects are substantially reduced or eliminated, indicating that an azimuthally selective perturbation of the acoustic field can be attributed to the wave packet. Modal decomposition of the acoustic field and single mode starting fields are used to infer that, for the source-receiver orientation along the wave crests and troughs, acoustic propagation is predominantly adiabatic. A modal phase speed analysis explains several features associated with the beamformed power.  相似文献

In the present work, making use of the hyperbolic tangent method a complex travelling wave solution to the KdV–Burgers equation is obtained. It is observed that the real part of the solution is the combination of a shock and a solitary wave whereas the imaginary part is the product of a shock with a solitary wave. By imposing some restrictions on the field variable at infinity, two complex waves, i.e., right going and left going waves with specific wave speed are obtained.  相似文献

Nonlinear solitary waves are investigated for a plasma system at the night side of Titan's ionosphere. The plasma model consists of three positive ions, namely C_2H_5~+, HCNH~+, and C_3H_5~+, as well as Maxwellian electrons. The basic set of fluid equations is reduced to a Korteweg de-Vries(KdV) equation and linear inhomogeneous higher order KdV(LIHO-KdV) equation.The solitary wave solutions of both equations are obtained using a renormalization method. The solitary waves' existence region and the wave profile are investigated, and their dependences on the plasma parameters at the night side of Titan's ionosphere are examined. The solitary waves' phase velocities are subsonic or supersonic, and the propagating pulses are usually positive. The effect of higher-order corrections on the perturbation theory is investigated. It is found that the higher-order contribution makes the amplitude slightly taller, which is suitable for describing the solitary waves when the amplitude augments.  相似文献

The problem of long-wave scattering by piecewise-constant periodic topography is studied both for a linear solitary-like wave pulse, and for a weakly nonlinear solitary wave [Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) soliton]. If the characteristic length of the topographic irregularities is larger than the pulse length, the solution of the scattering problem is obtained analytically for a leading wave in the framework of linear shallow-water theory. The wave decrement in the case of the small height of the topographic irregularities is proportional to delta2, where delta is the relative height of the topographic obstacles. An analytical approximate solution is also obtained for the weakly nonlinear problem when the length of the irregularities is larger than the characteristic nonlinear length scale. In this case, the Korteweg-de Vries equation is solved for each piece of constant depth by using the inverse scattering technique; the solutions are matched at each step by using linear shallow-water theory. The weakly nonlinear solitary wave decays more significantly than the linear solitary pulse. Solitary wave dynamics above a random seabed is also discussed, and the results obtained for random topography (including experimental data) are in reasonable agreement with the calculations for piecewise topography.  相似文献

Axisymmetric three-dimensional solitary waves in uniform two-component mixture Bose-Einstein condensates are obtained as solutions of the coupled Gross-Pitaevskii equations with equal intracomponent but varying intercomponent interaction strengths. Several families of solitary wave complexes are found: (1) vortex rings of various radii in each of the components; (2) a vortex ring in one component coupled to a rarefaction solitary wave of the other component; (3) two coupled rarefaction waves; (4) either a vortex ring or a rarefaction pulse coupled to a localized disturbance of a very low momentum. The continuous families of such waves are shown in the momentum-energy plane for various values of the interaction strengths and the relative differences between the chemical potentials of two components. Solitary wave formation, their stability, and solitary wave complexes in two dimensions are discussed.  相似文献

Existence of large amplitude stationary solitary wave structures in an unmagnetized electron-positron (e-p) plasma is studied using a quantum hydrodynamic (QHD) model that includes the quantum force (tunnelling) associated with the Bohm potential and the Fermi-dirac pressure law. It is found that in a quasi-neutral pair (e-p) plasma, where the dispersion is only due to the the quantum tunnelling effects, the large amplitude stationary solitary structure exists only when the normalized Mach speed,M <√2. Such solitary structures do not exist in absence of the Bohm potential term in an unmagnetized quasineutral pair (e-p) plasma. The system is shown to support only rarefactive stationary solitary waves. For such waves the amplitude, being independent of the quantum parameter H (the ratio of the electron plasmon to electron Fermi energy), decreases with the Mach number M, whereas the width increases with both M and H. The present theory is applicable to analyze the formation of localized coherent solitary structures at quantum scales in dense astrophysical objects as well as in intense laser fields.  相似文献

We study by a combination of numerical and analytical Evans function techniques, the stability of solitary wave solutions of the St. Venant equations for viscous shallow water flow down an incline, and related models. Our main result is to exhibit examples of metastable solitary waves for the St. Venant equations, with stable point spectrum indicating coherence of the wave profile but unstable essential spectrum indicating oscillatory convective instabilities shed in its wake. We propose a mechanism based on “dynamic spectrum” of the wave profile, by which a wave train of solitary pulses can stabilize each other by de-amplification of convective instabilities as they pass through successive waves. We present numerical time evolution studies supporting these conclusions, which bear also on the possibility of stable periodic solutions close to the homoclinic. For the closely related viscous Jin-Xin model, by contrast, for which the essential spectrum is stable, we show using the stability index of Gardner-Zumbrun that solitary wave pulses are always exponentially unstable, possessing point spectra with positive real part.  相似文献

柱面电磁波在各种非均匀非线性介质中的传播问题具有非常重要的研究价值.对描述该问题的柱面非线性麦克斯韦方程组进行精确求解,则是最近几年新兴的研究热点.但由于非线性偏微分方程组的极端复杂性,针对任意初边值条件的精确求解在客观上具有极高的难度,已有工作仅解决了柱面电磁波在指数非线性因子的非色散介质中的传播情况.因此,针对更为确定的物理场景,寻求能够精确描述其中更为广泛的物理性质的解,是一种更为有效的处理方法.本文讨论了具有任意非线性因子与幂律非均匀因子的非色散介质中柱面麦克斯韦方程组的行波精确解,理论分析表明这种情况下柱面电磁波的电场分量E已不存在通常形如E=g(r-kt)的平面行波解;继而通过适当的变量替换与求解相应的非线性常微分方程,给出电场分量E=g(lnr-kt)形式的广义行波解,并以例子展示所得到的解中蕴含的类似于自陡效应的物理现象.  相似文献
