In this paper we prove stability of Robin solid wall boundary conditions for the compressible Navier–Stokes equations. Applications include the no-slip boundary conditions with prescribed temperature or temperature gradient and the first order slip-flow boundary conditions. The formulation is uniform and the transitions between different boundary conditions are done by a change of parameters. We give different sharp energy estimates depending on the choice of parameters.  相似文献

In this investigation, the peristaltic flow of a third order fluid in an asymmetric channel is considered in the presence of a slip condition. The series solution of the stream function and longitudinal pressure gradient is given under long wave length and low Reynolds number approximations. Pressure rise and frictional forces per wave length are analyzed through numerical integration. Pumping and trapping phenomena are examined and the obtained results are compared with those of no-slip condition. Comparison is made with the results of no-slip and viscous fluid cases.  相似文献

It has been shown that the flow of a simple liquid over a solid surface can violate the so-called no-slip boundary condition. We investigate the flow of polar liquids, water and glycerol, on a hydrophilic Pyrex surface and a hydrophobic surface made of a Self-Assembled Monolayer of OTS (octadecyltrichlorosilane) on Pyrex. We use a Dynamic Surface Force Apparatus (DSFA) which allows one to study the flow of a liquid film confined between two surfaces with a nanometer resolution. No-slip boundary conditions are found for both fluids on hydrophilic surfaces only. Significant slip is found on the hydrophobic surfaces, with a typical length of one hundred nanometers. The fluctuation-induced interaction between two rod-like, rigid inclusions in a fluid vesicle is studied by means of canonical ensemble Monte-Carlo simulations. The vesicle membrane is represented by a triangulated network of hard spheres. Five rigidly connected hard spheres form rod-like inclusions that can leap between sites of the triangular network. Their effective interaction potential is computed as a function of mutual distance and angle of the inclusions. On account of the hard-core potential among these, the nature of the potential is purely entropic. Special precaution is taken to reduce lattice artifacts and the influence of finite-size effects due to the spherical geometry. Our results show that the effective potential is attractive and short-range compared with the rod length L. Its well depth is of the order of , where is the bending modulus. Pauli exclusion between the carriers of N excitons induces novel many-body effects, quite different from the ones generated by Coulomb interaction. Using our commutation technique for interacting close-to-boson particles, we here calculate the Hamiltonian expectation value in the N-ground-state-exciton state. Coulomb interaction enters this quantity at first order only by construction; nevertheless, due to Pauli exclusion, subtle many-body effects take place, which give rise to terms in (Na x 3/)n with n ≥ 2. An exact procedure to get these density dependent terms is given. We present the design and characterization of a femtosecond high-intensity laser system emitting a near-diffraction-limited beam. This system was dimensioned in order to reach intensities in excess of 1020 W/cm2 at a high repetition rate for ultrahigh-field physics experiments. We describe the improvements that were added to a conventional chirp pulse amplification configuration in order to decrease the deleterious effects of gain narrowing, gain shifting, thermal focusing in the amplifier stages, and spatial degradation due to multipass amplification processes. We investigate the behavior of the complex shear modulus of a series of elastomers including mono-domain and poly-domain liquid crystal samples, and a non-mesomorphic sample. We find that the dynamics of the glass transition are strongly modified by the nematic order. This result explains why the truly elastic response of liquid crystal elastomers can only be observed in the isotropic phase at very high temperatures and at very low frequencies. Between the elastic regime and the glassy state, the elastomers have a visco-elastic regime, which is characterized by a Rouse-like behavior for mono-domain and poly-domain samples, and by a Zimm-like behavior for the non-mesomorphic sample. We also show that the mono-domain sample exhibits marked anisotropy of the shear-modulus G . This anisotropy, which is observed for the first time, is a function of frequency and is inverted between low and high frequencies, due to relaxation effects of the orientational order. In order to study the tunneling of electrons through an interacting, 1D, dimerized molecule connected to leads, we consider the persistent current in a ring embedding this molecule. We find numerically that, for spinless fermions, a molecule with a gap mostly due to interactions, i.e. a Mott-Hubbard gap, gives rise to a larger persistent current than a molecule with the same gap, but due only to the dimerization. In both cases, the tunneling current decreases exponentially with the size of the molecule, but more slowly in the interacting case. Implications for molecular electronic are briefly discussed. Recently Garel, Monthus and Orland [Europhys. Lett. 55, 132 (2001)] considered a model of DNA denaturation in which excluded volume effects within each strand are neglected, while mutual avoidance is included. Using an approximate scheme they found a first order denaturation. We show that a first order transition for this model follows from exact results for the statistics of two mutually avoiding random walks, whose reunion exponent is c > 2, both in two and three dimensions. Analytical estimates of c due to the interactions with other denaturated loops, as well as numerical calculations, indicate that the transition is even sharper than in models where excluded volume effects are fully incorporated. The probability distribution of distances between homologous base pairs decays as a power law at the transition. Carrier-phonon interaction in semiconductor quantum dots leads to three classes of phenomena: coherent effects (spectrum reconstruction) due to the nearly-dispersionless LO phonons, incoherent effects (transitions) induced by acoustical phonons and dressing phenomena, related to non-adiabatic, sub-picosecond excitation. Polaron spectra, relaxation times and dressing-related decoherence rates are calculated, in accordance with experiment. A precursor effect on the Fermi surface in the two-dimensional Hubbard model at finite temperatures near the antiferromagnetic instability is studied using three different itinerant approaches: the second order perturbation theory, the paramagnon theory (PT), and the two-particle self-consistent (TPSC) approach. In general, at finite temperature, the Fermi surface of the interacting electron systems is not sharply defined due to the broadening effects of the self-energy. In order to take account of those effects we consider the single-particle spectral function A(, 0) at the Fermi level, to describe the counterpart of the Fermi surface at T = 0. We find that the Fermi surface is destroyed close to the pseudogap regime due to the spin-fluctuation effects in both PT and TPSC approaches. Moreover, the top of the effective valence band is located around = (π/2,π/2) in agreement with earlier investigations on the single-hole motion in the antiferromagnetic background. A crossover behavior from the Fermi-liquid regime to the pseudogap regime is observed in the electron concentration dependence of the spectral function and the self-energy. The theoretical basis is presented that allows to compute the Stark broadened line shapes of atomic ions up to the quadrupole terms in the interaction potential between the radiator and the plasma electric microfields and their gradients. The nature of the corrections due to the plasma polarization effects associated with the electron distribution around ion perturbers are carefully analyzed. The relevant universal plasma functions are evaluated in a cluster expansion or by Monte Carlo simulations, and the line shape is calculated with ion dynamic effects by the Model Microfield Method. The asymmetry of the Lyman line of hydrogenic ions is then studied. Received 21 January 2000 and Received in final form 27 April 2000  相似文献

The quasi-stationary final states of decaying two-dimensional turbulence on a circular domain, with an initial flow field containing either no or a substantial amount of angular momentum, have been investigated numerically. The production of angular momentum is almost absent for these flows on a circular domain with a no-slip wall. Its presence or absence essentially determines the character of the quasi-stationary final state. Based on a minimum-enstrophy principle a diagram is constructed that provides insight into the development of the typical late-time flow patterns on a circular domain with a no-slip wall. The quasi-stationary final states found in the present numerical study can be understood based on the predictions from the minimum-enstrophy principle.  相似文献

Magnetic-impurity-scattering effects in a quasi-2D disordered electron system have been investigated theoretically with the diagrammatic techniques in perturbation theory. The analytical expressions for magnetoconductivities due to weak-localization effects have been obtained as functions of elastic, inelastic and magnetic scattering times. The relevant dimensional crossover behavior from 3D to 2D with decreasing the interlayer coupling has been discussed, and the condition for the crossover has been obtained. We present a structural investigation of the family of quasi-one-dimensional (quasi-1D) conductors, which exhibit intriguing charge transport properties where, for x small, the conductivity exhibits a crossover from a semiconducting to a metallic like regime when the temperature decreases. In these materials the double zig-zag chains, together with the diphosphate groups, delimit channels which are partially filled with the ions. It is found, from an X-ray diffuse scattering investigation, that at room temperature the ions are locally ordered on a lattice of well-defined sites in the channel direction and not ordered between neighboring channels. These ions form 1D incommensurate concentration waves whose periodicity depends on the stoichiometry. In upon cooling, the intrachannel order increases significantly, and an interchannel order between the 1D concentration waves develops. But, probably because of kinetic effects, no tridimensional (3D) long range order of the ions is achieved at low temperature. The 3D low-temperature local order has been determined and it is found that the phase shift between the concentration waves minimizes their Coulomb repulsions. This local order is increasingly reduced as the Cs concentration diminishes. We interpret the intriguing features of the electrical conductivity in relationship with the thermal evolution of the Cs ordering effects. We suggest that in , for x small, a localization-delocalization transition of the Anderson type occurs due to the thermal variation of the Cs disorder. When x increases, the enhancement of the disorder leads to a localization of the electronic wave function in the whole temperature range measured. Finally, and probably because of the disorder, no charge density wave instability is revealed by our X-ray diffuse scattering investigation. It has been found that patterns and inhomogeneities on the surface of the waveguide used for optical waveguide lightmode spectroscopy applications can produce broadening and fine structure in the incoupled light peak spectra. During cell spreading on the waveguide, a broadening of the incoupling peaks is observed, while regular microstructures on the incoupling grating produce shifts and splitting of the peaks. A theoretical model, based on the zigzag wave representation of light propagation in a planar optical waveguide has been developed in order to understand the physical background of the observed effects. Numerical results are given for the different cases observed, and they are compared with the experimental data. Several possible applications of these effects are considered. We report on the formation and detection of a compressed fluid phase of Xe clusters in as- implanted Si, at room temperature. The simultaneous structural characterization of the Xe clusters and of the Si matrix was performed by X-ray diffraction at grazing incidence coupled with two-dimensional detection; in both cases, the nearest-neighbor distance and the coordination were obtained. In order to investigate the early stage of the atomic inclusion and the cluster segregation, the average compression and size of Xe fluid clusters within the amorphous Si matrix were explained within the simple Hard Sphere model. A study of the reordering kinetics of ion-irradiated Ni3Al is presented. The development of long-range order during annealing treatments is measured by quantitative electron diffractometry. According to the temperature dependence of the observed kinetics, the reaction is dominated by non-equilibrium vacancies. As a consequence, the kinetics can be calibrated versus the absolute number of atomic jumps necessary to establish the observed degree of order. In order to analyse the experimental data, Monte Carlo simulations are performed. It is shown that, beside the temperature dependence of the driving force, the ordering efficiency of the vacancy jumps itself is temperature dependent due to different mobilities of the atomic species.
