The elastic and electronic structure properties of YNi2B2C under pressure are investigated by performing the generalized gradient approximation (GGA) and local density approximation (LDA) correction scheme in the frame of density functional theory (DFT). The pressure dependences of the normalized lattice parameters a/a0 and c/c0, the ratio c/a, and the normalized primitive volume V/V0 of YNi2B2C are also obtained. The lattice constants and bulk modulus obtained are in agreement with the available experimental and other theoretical data. We have also studied the pressure dependences of elastic properties. It is found that, as pressure increases, the elastic constants C11, C33, C66, C12, and C13 increase, the variation of elastic constant C44 is not obvious. Moreover, our compressional and shear wave velocities VL=6.99 km/s and VS=3.67 km/s as well as the Debye temperature Θ=549.7 K at 0 GPa compare favorably with the available experimental data. The pressure dependences of band structures, energy gap and density of states are also investigated.  相似文献

Abstract

The electronics structure, the charge distribution and the total energy of hexagonal titaniumdiboride are calculated using non-local pseudopotentials in both the local density approximation (LDA) and the generalized gradient expansion approximation (GGA). In the LDA we obtain a = 3.023 Å, c = 3.166 Å and Bo = 271. GPa. For these quantities the GGA values are slightly lower and both compare well with experiment. We also determined selected elastic constants by fitting the total energies to a quadratic surface in the lattice parameters. Using strains that do not break the hexagonal symmetry we obtain C11 + C12 = 777.GPa, C13 = 83. GPa and C33 = 568. GPa. Again slightly lower values are obtained using the GGA. These values agree well with a recent experiment.  相似文献

The structural, elastic and thermal properties of four transition metal monocarbides ScC, YC (group III), VC and NbC (group V) have been investigated using full potential linearized augmented plane wave (FP-LAPW) method within generalized gradient approximation (GGA) both at ambient and high pressure. We predict a B1 to B2 structural phase transition at 127.8 and 80.4 GPa for ScC and YC along with the volume collapse percentage of 7.6 and 8.4%, respectively. No phase transition is observed in case of VC and NbC up to pressure 400 and 360 GPa, respectively. The ground state properties such as equilibrium lattice constant (a0), bulk modulus (B) and its pressure derivative (B′) are determined and compared with available data. We have computed the elastic moduli and Debye temperature and report their variation as a function of pressure.  相似文献

The elastic and thermodynamic properties of CsCl-type structure CaB6 under high pressure are investigated by first-principles calculations based on plane-wave pseudopotential density functional theory method within the generalized gradient approximation (GGA). The calculated lattice parameters of CaB6 under zero pressure and zero temperature are in good agreement with the existing experimental data and other theoretical data. The pressure dependences of the elastic constants, bulk modulus B (GPa), and its pressure derivative B′, shear modulus G, Young's modulus E, elastic Debye temperature ΘB, Zener's anisotropy parameter A, Poisson ratios σ, and Kleinmann parameter ζ are also presented. An analysis for the calculated elastic constants has been made to reveal the mechanical stability of CaB6 up to 100 GPa. The thermodynamic properties of the CsCl-type structure CaB6 are predicted using the quasi-harmonic Debye model. The pressure-volume-temperature (P-V-T) relationship, the variations of the heat capacity CV, Debye temperature ΘD, and the thermal expansion α with pressure P and temperature T, as well as the Grüneisen parameters γ are obtained systematically in the ranges of 0-100 GPa and 0-2000 K.  相似文献

The ambient structural details and the results of room temperature high pressure angle dispersive X-ray diffraction and electrical resistance measurements on the quasi-one-dimensional sulfide, InV6S8, to a pressure of 25 GPa are reported. The material does not undergo a phase transition in this pressure range, though an anomaly in the c/a ratio has been observed around 10 Gpa. A fit of the Murnaghan equation of state to the V/V0 versus pressure data, with the value of the derivative of B0 with respect to pressure, B0, fixed at 4 has yielded a value of the bulk modulus, B0, of 110 GPa. We also present data of the pressure dependence of the lattice constants, a and c, the ratio c/a, and the resistance at room temperature.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The structural, electronic, elastic and thermodynamic properties of LuX (X = N, Bi and Sb) based on rare earth into phases, Rocksalt (B1) and CsCl (B2) have been investigated using full-potential linearized muffin-tin orbital method (FP-LMTO) within density functional theory. Local density approximation (LDA) for exchange-correlation potential and local spin density approximation (LSDA) are employed. The structural parameters as lattice parameters a0, bulk modulus B, its pressure derivate B’ and cut-off energy (Ec) within LDA and LSDA are presented. The elastic constants were derived from the stress–strain relation at 0 K. The thermodynamic properties for LuX using the quasi-harmonic Debye model are studied. The temperature and pressure variation of volume, bulk modulus, thermal expansion coefficient, heat capacities, Debye temperature and Gibbs free energy at different pressures (0–50 GPa) and temperatures (0–1600 K) are predicted. The calculated results are in accordance with other data.  相似文献

The high-pressure phase transition of CS2 was studied by combing ab initio molecular dynamics with total energy calculations. At 300 K the pieces of polymer structure were found to appear at 10 GPa in the molecular dynamics run, and further the CS4 tetrahedral structure to appear at about 20 GPa. The phase transition was then studied in the structure of Cmca, α-quartz and β-quartz by using the first-principle total energy calculation method. A phase transition from Cmca to β-quartz was found at 10.6 GPa. The calculated lattice constants of β-quartz at atmospheric pressure are a=5.44 and c/a=1.138 with B0=95 GPa. The calculation has also indicated that CS2 decomposes at 20 GPa and below 1000 K.  相似文献

The effect of hydrostatic pressure on the structures of HfN at 0 K was investigated by using the projector augmented wave (PAW) within the Perdew–Burke–Ernzerhof (PBE) form of the generalized gradient approximation (GGA). The transition pressure between NaCl (B1) and CsCl (B2) structures is predicted to be 277.3 GPa. This value is consistent with that reported by Kroll, while in contrast to the results obtained by Ojha et al. and Meenaatci et al. Moreover, the elastic properties of B1-HfN and B2-HfN under high pressures are successfully obtained. It is found that the elastic constants, bulk modulus B, shear modulus G, compressional and shear wave velocities increase monotonically with increasing pressure. The Debye temperature Θ calculated from the elastic constants of HfN is in good agreement with the experimental values. The anisotropies of B1-HfN and B2-HfN at zero pressure have also been discussed.  相似文献

The structure parameters and electronic structures of tungsten boride (WB) have been investigated by using the density functional theory (DFT). Our calculating results display the bulk modulus of WB are 352±2 GPa (K0=4.29) and 322±3 GPa (K0=4.21) by LDA and GGA methods, respectively. We have analyzed the probable reason of the discrepancy from the bulk modulus between theoretical and experimental results. The compression behavior of the unit cell axes is anisotropic, with the c-axis being more compressible than the a-axis. By analyzing the bond lengths information, it also demonstrated that WB has a lower compressibility at high pressure. From the partial densities of states (PDOS) of WB, we found that the Fermi lever is mostly contributed by the d states of W atom and p states of B atom and that the contributions from the s, p states of W atom and s states of B atom are small. Moreover, using the Gibbs 2 program, the thermodynamic properties of WB are obtained in a wide temperature range at high pressure for the first time in this work.  相似文献

Quasi-hydrostatic compression of aluminum carbide, Al4C3 has been studied to 6 GPa at room temperature using energy-dispersive X-ray powder diffraction with synchrotron radiation. A fit of the experimental p-V data to the Birch equation of state yields the values of the bulk modulus, B0, of 130(5) GPa and the first pressure derivative of the bulk modulus, B0, of 4.6(9). The compression is found to be anisotropic, with the a-axis being more compressible than the c-axis.  相似文献

First-principles calculations of the crystal structure and the elastic properties of RuB2 have been carried out with the plane-wave pseudopotential density functional theory method. The calculated values are in very good agreement with experimental data as well as with some of the existing model calculations. The elastic constants cij, the aggregate elastic moduli (B, G, E), Poisson's ratio, and the elastic anisotropy with pressure have been investigated. Through the quasi-harmonic Debye model considering the phonon effects, the isothermal bulk modulus, the thermal expansions, Grüneisen parameters, and Debye temperatures depending on the temperature and pressure are obtained in the whole pressure range from 0 to 60 GPa and temperature range from 0 to 1100 K as well as compared to available data.  相似文献

The structural and lattice dynamical properties of TmX (X=As, P) compounds were investigated using normconserving pseudopotentials within the generalized gradient approximation correction (GGA) of Perdew–Burke–Ernzerhof (PBE) in the framework of density functional theory (DFT). The structural parameters (a0, B, B′, Ecoh) were determined through total energy and interatomic force minimization and the overall agreement was found to be good. The pressure dependence of the ratios of normalized lattice parameters a/a0, normalized volume V/V0, bulk modulus, elastic constants, Zener anisotropy factor, Poisson's ratio, Young's modulus, shear modulus, and the brittleness were presented and discussed. The thermodynamical properties such as thermal expansion, heat capacity, Debye temperature, and Grüneisen parameter were calculated employing the quasi-harmonic Debye model at different temperatures (0–1000 K) and pressures (0–30 GPa). The phonon dispersion curves and corresponding density of states (DOS) of TmX (X=As, P) were also obtained, and the salient results were interpreted.  相似文献

<正>The elastic and thermodynamic properties of NbN at high pressures and high temperatures are investigated by the plane-wave pseudopotential density functional theory(DFT).The generalized gradient approximation(GGA) with the Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof(PBE) method is used to describe the exchange-correlation energy in the present work. The calculated equilibrium lattice constant a0,bulk modulus B0,and the pressure derivative of bulk modulus B0’ of NbN with rocksalt structure are in good agreement with numerous experimental and theoretical data. The elastic properties over a range of pressures from 0 to 80.4 GPa are obtained.Isotropic wave velocities and anisotropic elasticity of NbN are studied in detail. It is indicated that NbN is highly anisotropic in both longitudinal and shear-wave velocities. According to the quasi-harmonic Debye model,in which the phononic effect is considered, the relations of(V-V0)/V0 to the temperature and the pressure, and the relations of the heat capacity CV and the thermal expansion coefficientαto temperature are discussed in a pressure range from 0 to 80.4 GPa and a temperature range from 0 to 2500 K.At low temperature,CV is proportional to T3 and tends to the Dulong-Petit limit at higher temperature. We predict that the thermal expansion coefficientαof NbN is about 4.20×10-6/K at 300 K and 0 GPa.  相似文献

We have investigated the structural and electronic properties of monophospides of thorium, uranium and neptunium. The total energy as a function of volume is obtained by means of the self-consistent tight binding linear muffin-tin-orbital (TB-LMTO) method within the local density approximation (LDA). From the present study with the help of total energy calculations it is found that ThP, UP and NpP are stable in NaCl-type structure at ambient pressure. The structural stability of ThP, UP and NpP changes under the application of pressure. We predict a structural phase transition from NaCl-type (B1-phase) structure to CsCl-type (B2-phase) structure for these phospides in the pressure range of 37.0-24.0 GPa (ThP-NpP). We also calculate lattice parameter (a0), bulk modulus (B0), band structure and density of states. From energy band diagram it is observed that ThP, UP and NpP exhibit metallic behavior. The calculated equilibrium lattice parameters and bulk modulus are in good agreement with experimental and theoretical work.  相似文献

We have investigated structural and elastic properties of PtN2 under high pressures using norm-conserving pseudopotentials within the local density approximation (LDA) in the frame of density-functional theory. Calculated results of PtN2 are in agreement with experimental and available theoretical values. The a/a0, V/V0, ductility/brittleness, elastic constants Cij, shear modulus C′, bulk modulus B, shear modulus G, Young's modulus E, Poisson's ratio σ and anisotropy factor A as a function of applied pressure are presented. Through the quasi-harmonic Debye model, we also study thermodynamic properties of PtN2. The thermal expansion versus temperature and pressure, thermodynamic parameters X (X=Debye temperature or specific heat) with varying pressure P, and heat capacity of PtN2 at various pressures and temperatures are estimated.  相似文献

The structural stability and mechanical properties of WC in WC-, MoC- and NaCl-type structures under high pressure are investigated systematically by first-principles calculations. The calculated equilibrium lattice constants at zero pressure agree well with available experimental and theoretical results. The formation enthalpy indicates that the most stable WC is in WC-type, then MoC-type finally NaCl-type. By the elastic stability criteria, it is predicted that the three structures are all mechanically stable. The elastic constants Cij, bulk modulus B, shear modulus G, Young?s modulus E and Poisson?s ratio ν of the three structures are studied in the pressure range from 0 to 100 GPa. Furthermore, by analyzing the B/G ratio, the brittle/ductile behavior under high pressure is assessed. Moreover, the elastic anisotropy of the three structures up to 100 GPa is also discussed in detail.  相似文献

We investigate the structural and elastic properties of hexagonal Ce2O3 under pressure using LDA+U scheme in the frame of density functional theory (DFT). The obtained lattice constants and bulk modulus agree well with the available experimental and other theoretical data. The pressure dependences of normalized lattice parameters a/a 0 and c/c 0, ratio c/a, and normalized primitive volume V/V 0 of Ce2O3 are obtained. Moreover, the pressure dependences of elastic properties and three anisotropies of elastic waves of Ce2O3 are investigated for the first time. We find that the negative value of C 44 is indicative of the structural instability of the hexagonal structure Ce2O3 at zero temperature and 30 GPa. Finally, the density of states (DOS) of Ce2O3 under pressure is investigated.  相似文献

First-principles calculations of the structural, magnetic and elastic properties of Holmium pnictides compounds HoX (X = As, Sb, and P) in the rock-salt structure, as a function of pressure, have been performed using the Density Functional Theory (DFT). We have used two full-potential methods: full potential linearized augmented plane wave (FP-LAPW) implemented in WIEN2k code and full-potential local-orbital minimum-basis in FPLO code. The calculations are carried out within a framework of the generalized gradient approximation (GGA) and GGA+U (where U = 5 eV is the Hubbard correlation term). the total magnetic moments of HoAs, HoSb, and HoP using GGA approximation are 5.85, 6.35, and 5.70 µB respectively and using GGA+U are 5.803, 6.208, 5.634 µB respectively. We investigated the effect of pressure on the magnetic properties of these compounds, using GGA approximation. The total magnetic moment of HoP shows small variation at low pressure, but it decreases rapidly at high pressure to reach 3.87 µB at 50 GPa.  相似文献

The energy-volume curves of OsB have been obtained using the first-principles plane-wave ultrasoft-pseudopotential density functional theory (DFT) within the generalized gradient approximation (GGA) and local density approximation (LDA). Using the quasi-harmonic Debye model we first analyze the specific heat, the coefficients of thermal expansion as well as the thermodynamic Grüneisen parameter of OsB in a wide temperature range at high pressure. At temperature 300 K, the coefficients of thermal expansion αV by LDA and GGA calculations are 1.67×10−5 1/K and 2.01×10−5 1/K, respectively. The specific heat of OsB at constant pressure (volume) is also calculated. Meanwhile, we find that the Debye temperature of OsB increases monotonically with increasing pressure. The present study leads to a better understanding of how the OsB materials respond to pressure and temperature.  相似文献

The thermal equation of state (EOS) for platinum has been calculated to 300 GPa and 3000 K using ab initio molecular dynamics employing the local density approximation (LDA) and the projector augmented-wave methods (PAW). Direct ab initio molecular dynamics avoids the simplifying assumptions inherent in empirical treatments of thermoelasticity. A third-order Birch-Murnaghan equation EOS fitted to the 300 K data yielded an isothermal bulk modulus of BT0=290.8 GPa and a pressure derivative of BT′=5.11, which are in better agreement with the measured values than those obtained by previous calculations. The high-temperature data were fitted to a thermal pressure EOS and a Mie-Grüneisen-Debye EOS. The resulting calculated thermal expansion coefficient, α0, temperature derivative of the isothermal bulk modulus, (∂BT/∂T)V, and second temperature derivative of the pressure, (2P/∂T2)V, were 1.94×10−5 K−1, −0.0038 GPa K−1, and 1.7×10−7 GPa2 K−2, respectively. A fit to the Mie-Grüneisen-Debye EOS yielded values for the Grüneisen parameter, γ0, and its volume dependence parameter, q, of 2.18 and 1.75, respectively. An analysis of our data revealed a strong volume dependence of the thermal pressure of platinum. We also present a qualitative analysis of the effects of intrinsic anharmonicity from the calculated Grüneisen parameter at high temperatures.  相似文献
