A nonlocal continuum-based model is derived to simulate the dynamic behavior of bridged carbon nanotube-based nano-scale mass detectors. The carbon nanotube (CNT) is modeled as an elastic Euler-Bernoulli beam considering von-Kármán type geometric nonlinearity. In order to achieve better accuracy in characterization of the CNTs, the geometrical properties of an attached nano-scale particle are introduced into the model by its moment of inertia with respect to the central axis of the beam. The inter-atomic long-range interactions within the structure of the CNT are incorporated into the model using Eringen's nonlocal elastic field theory. In this model, the mass can be deposited along an arbitrary length of the CNT. After deriving the full nonlinear equations of motion, the natural frequencies and corresponding mode shapes are extracted based on a linear eigenvalue problem analysis. The results show that the geometry of the attached particle has a significant impact on the dynamic behavior of the CNT-based mechanical resonator, especially, for those with small aspect ratios. The developed model and analysis are beneficial for nano-scale mass identification when a CNT-based mechanical resonator is utilized as a small-scale bio-mass sensor and the deposited particles are those, such as proteins, enzymes, cancer cells, DNA and other nano-scale biological objects with different and complex shapes.  相似文献

In this paper, the transverse wave propagation in fluid-conveying viscoelastic single-walled carbon nanotubes is investigated based on nonlocal elasticity theory with consideration of surface effect. The governing equation is formulated utilizing nonlocal Euler-Bernoulli beam theory and Kelvin-Voigt model. Explicit wave dispersion relation is developed and wave phase velocities and frequencies are obtained. The effect of the fluid flow velocity, structural damping, surface effect, small scale effects and tube diameter on the wave propagation properties are discussed with different wave numbers. The wave frequency increases with the increase of fluid flow velocity, but decreases with the increases of tube diameter and wave number. The effect of surface elasticity and residual surface tension is more significant for small wave number and tube diameter. For larger values of wave number and nonlocal parameters, the real part of frequency ratio raises.  相似文献

In the present paper, the coupling effect of transverse magnetic field and elastic medium on the longitudinal wave propagation along a carbon nanotube (CNT) is studied. Based on the nonlocal elasticity theory and Hamilton's principle, a unified nonlocal rod theory which takes into account the effects of small size scale, lateral inertia and radial deformation is proposed. The existing rod theories including the classic rod theory, the Rayleigh-Love theory and Rayleigh-Bishop theory for macro solids can be treated as the special cases of the present model. A two-parameter foundation model (Pasternak-type model) is used to represent the elastic medium. The influence of transverse magnetic field, Pasternak-type elastic medium and small size scale on the longitudinal wave propagation behavior of the CNT is investigated in detail. It is shown that the influences of lateral inertia and radial deformation cannot be neglected in analyzing the longitudinal wave propagation characteristics of the CNT. The results also show that the elastic medium and the transverse magnetic field will also affect the longitudinal wave dispersion behavior of the CNT significantly. The results obtained in this paper are helpful for understanding the mechanical behaviors of nanostructures embedded in an elastic medium.  相似文献

In the present work, nonlocal Euler–Bernoulli beam theory is used to investigate the wave propagation in zigzag double-walled carbon nanotube (DWCNT) embedded in an elastic medium. Winkler-type foundation model is employed to simulate the interaction of the DWCNT with the surrounding elastic medium. The DWCNTs are considered as two nanotube shells coupled through the van der Waals interaction between them. It is noticed in the presented study that the equivalent Young’s modulus for zigzag DWCNT is derived using an energy-equivalent model. Influences of nonlocal effects, the chirality of zigzag DWCNT, Winkler modulus parameter, and aspect ratio on the frequency of DWCNT are analyzed and discussed. The new features of the vibration behavior of zigzag DWCNTs embedded in an elastic medium and some meaningful results in this paper are helpful for the application and the design of nanostructures in which zigzag DWCNTs act as basic elements.  相似文献

The stability of a cantilever beam subjected to a follower force at its free end and rotating at a uniform angular velocity is investigated. The beam is assumed to be offset from the axis of rotation, carries a tip mass at its free end, and undergoes deflection in a direction perpendicular to the plane of rotation. The equations of motion are formulated within the Euler-Bernoulli and Timoshenko beam theories for the case of a Kelvin model viscoelastic beam. The associated adjoint boundary value problems are derived and appropriate adjoint variational principles are introduced. These variational principles are used for the purpose of determining approximately the values of the critical flutter load of the system as it depends upon its damping parameters, tip mass and its rotary inertia, hub radius, and speed of rotation. The variation of the critical flutter load with these parameters is revealed in a series of several graphs. The numerical results show that the critical load can be reduced significantly due to (a) the transverse and rotary inertia of the tip mass and (b) increasing values of the internal damping parameter associated with the transverse shear deformation of the rotating beam.  相似文献

In this Letter, a theoretical analysis of the resonant vibration of double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWCNTs) and the DWCNTs embedded in an elastic medium is presented based on Euler-Bernoulli beam model and Winkler spring model. The vibration modes of DWCNTs are quite different from those of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs). The resonant vibrations of DWCNTs are found to have in-phase and anti-phase modes, in which the deflections of the inner and outer nanotubes occur in the same and opposite directions, respectively. For the vibration of DWCNTs with the same harmonic numbers, the resonant frequencies of anti-phase mode are larger than the ones of in-phase mode. Moreover, influence of the surrounding medium on the resonant vibrations is investigated using the Winkler spring model. The results show that surrounding medium makes a strong impact on the vibration frequencies of in-phase mode, but little on those of anti-phase mode.  相似文献

In this study, an analytical method of the small scale parameter on the vibration of single-walled Boron Nitride nanotube (SWBNNT) under a moving nanoparticle is presented. SWBNNT is embedded in bundle of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) which is simulated as Pasternak foundation. Using Euler–Bernoulli beam (EBB) model, Hamilton's principle and nonlocal piezoelasticity theory, the higher order governing equation is derived. The effects of electric field, elastic medium, slenderness ratio and small scale parameter are investigated on the vibration behavior of SWBNNT under a moving nanoparticle. Results indicate the importance of using surrounding elastic medium in decrease of normalized dynamic deflection. Indeed, the normalized dynamic deflection decreases with the increase of the elastic medium stiffness values. The electric field has significant role on the nondimensional fundamental frequencies, as a smart controller. The results of this work is hoped to be of use in design and manufacturing of smart nano-electro-mechanical devices in advanced medical applications such as drug delivery systems with great applications in biomechanics.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the characteristics of wave propagation in double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWCNTs). The DWCNTs is simulated with a Timoshenko beam model based on the nonlocal continuum elasticity theory, referred to as an analytically nonlocal Timoshenko-beam (ANT) model. The governing equations of the DWCNTs beam consist of a set of four equations that are derived from the variational principle of the beam with high-order boundary conditions at the both ends, in which the effects of the nano-scale nonlocality and the van der Waals interaction between inner and outer tubes are inclusive. The characteristics of the wave propagation in the DWCNTs beam were analyzed with the new ANT model proposed and the comparisons with the partially nonlocal Timoshenko-beam (PNT) models in publication were made in details. The results show that the nonlocal effects of the ANT model proposed in the present study on the wave propagations are more significant because it is in stronger stiffness enhancement to the DWCNTs beam.  相似文献

Wave propagation in single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) conveying fluids and placed in multi-physical fields (including magnetic and temperature fields) is studied in this paper. The nanotubes are modelled as Timoshenko beams. Based on the nonlocal beam theory, the governing equations of motion are derived using Hamilton's principle, and then solved by Galerkin approach, leading to two second-order ordinary differential equations (ODEs). Numerical simulations are carried out to verify the analytical model proposed in the present study, and determine the influences of the nonlocal parameter, the fluid velocity and flow density, the temperature and magnetic field flux change, and the surrounding elastic medium on the wave behaviour of SWCNTs. The results show that the nonlocal parameter has a considerable influence on dynamic behaviour of the nanotube and the fluid flow inside it. The results also show that the magnetic and temperature fields play an important role on the wave propagation characteristics of SWCNTs.  相似文献

In this Letter, the thermal buckling properties of carbon nanotube with small scale effects are studied. Based on the nonlocal continuum theory and the Timoshenko beam model, the governing equation is derived and the nondimensional critical buckling temperature is presented. The influences of the scale coefficients, the ratio of the length to the diameter, the transverse shear deformation and rotary inertia are discussed. It can be observed that the small scale effects are significant and should be considered for thermal analysis of carbon nanotube. The nondimensional critical buckling temperature becomes higher with the ratio of length to diameter increasing. Furthermore, for smaller ratios of the length to the diameter and higher mode numbers, the transverse shear deformation and rotary inertia have remarkable influences on the thermal buckling behaviors.  相似文献

Based on the nonlocal theory, Euler-Bernoulli beam theory and Kelvin viscoelastic foundation model, free transverse vibration is studied for a tapered viscoelastic single-walled carbon nanotube (visco-SWCNT) embedded in a viscoelastic medium. Firstly, the governing equations for vibration analysis are established. And then, we derive the natural frequencies in closed form for SWCNTs with arbitrary boundary conditions by applying transfer function method and perturbation method. Numerical results are also presented to discuss the effects of nonlocal parameter, relaxation time and taper parameter of SWCNTs, and material property parameters of the medium. This study demonstrates that the proposed model is available for vibration analysis of the tapered SWCNTs-viscoelastic medium coupling system.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to show how a ceramic layer attached to a two-layered (elastic/viscoelastic) beam alters the wave propagation mechanism in the beam. The ceramic layer is assumed to possess mass but not longitudinal stiffness. Shear deformation, rotatory, longitudinal and transverse inertia forces are all included in the analysis. The equations of motion of the layered beam are derived by using the virtual work principle. Relevant dispersion curves for an infinite beam are presented and discussed, and are compared with dispersion curves obtained from a number of simplified theories. The influence of the inertia coupling between different wave types, caused by the ceramic layer, has been examined. The loss factors of the different waves are found to be critically dependent upon the inertia coupling and wave-number in particular wave-number regions. This occurs when uncoupled waves of different types have close wave-speeds. Under these circumstances a coupled wave can exist which has much less damping than any of its constituent uncoupled waves.  相似文献

This paper presents an accurate finite element procedure for the stability analysis of elastically supported pipes conveying fluid. With consideration of effects of lumped masses, fluid pressure and friction, the equations of motion are derived based on Hamilton's principle for the mass transport system. The kinematics of the pipe is based on Timoshenko beam theory for which the transverse shear deformation and rotary inertia of the pipe are included. The material behaviour of the pipe is described by the Kelvin viscoelastic model. The dynamic stability behaviours obtained by the present work are more conservative as compared with those evaluated by conventional Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. Also, it is found that the lumped masses, fluid pressure and friction will destabilize the system while the elastic support may have either a stabilizing or destabilizing effect depending on its stiffness and location. To demonstrate the validity and accuracy of the technique developed, several numerical examples are illustrated.  相似文献

This study deals with transverse vibrations of two adjacent-parallel-mislocated single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) under various end conditions. These tubes interact with each other and their surrounding medium through the intertube van der Waals (vdW) forces, and existing bonds between their atoms and those of the elastic medium. The elastic energy of such forces due to the deflections of nanotubes is appropriately modeled by defining a vdW force density function. In the previous works, vdW forces between two identical tubes were idealized by a uniform form of this function. The newly introduced function enables us to investigate the influences of both intertube free distance and longitudinal mislocation on the natural transverse frequencies of the nanosystem which consists of two dissimilar tubes. Such crucial issues have not been addressed yet, even for simply supported tubes. Using nonlocal Timoshenko and higher-order beam theories as well as Hamilton's principle, the strong form of the equations of motion is established. Seeking for an explicit solution to these integro-partial differential equations is a very problematic task. Thereby, an energy-based method in conjunction with an efficient meshfree method is proposed and the nonlocal frequencies of the elastically embedded nanosystem are determined. For simply supported nanosystems, the predicted first five frequencies of the proposed model are checked with those of assumed mode method, and a reasonably good agreement is achieved. Through various studies, the roles of the tube's length ratio, intertube free space, mislocation, small-scale effect, slenderness ratio, radius of SWCNTs, and elastic constants of the elastic matrix on the natural frequencies of the nanosystem with various end conditions are explained. The limitations of the nonlocal Timoshenko beam theory are also addressed. This work can be considered as a vital step towards better realizing of a more complex system that consists of vertically aligned SWCNTs of various lengths.  相似文献

This article deals with the wave propagation analysis of single/double layered functionally graded (FG) size-dependent nanobeams in elastic medium and subjected to a longitudinal magnetic field employing nonlocal elasticity theory. Material properties of nanobeam change gradually according to the sigmoid function. Applying an analytical solution, the acoustical and optical dispersion relations are explored for various wave number, nonlocality parameter, material composition, elastic foundation constants, and magnetic field intensity. It is found that frequency and phase velocity of waves propagating in S-FGM nanobeam are significantly affected by these parameters. Also, presence of cut-off and escape frequencies in wave propagation analysis of embedded S-FGM nanobeams is investigated.  相似文献

Dynamic analysis of nanotube structures under excitation of a moving nanoparticle is carried out using nonlocal continuum theory of Eringen. To this end, the nanotube structure is modeled by an equivalent continuum structure (ECS) according to the nonlocal Euler-Bernoulli, Timoshenko and higher order beam theories. The nondimensional equations of motion of the nonlocal beams acted upon by a moving nanoparticle are then established. Analytical solutions of the problem are presented for simply supported boundary conditions. The explicit expressions of the critical velocities of the nonlocal beams are derived. Furthermore, the capabilities of various nonlocal beam models in predicting the dynamic deflection of the ECS are examined through various numerical simulations. The role of the scale effect parameter, the slenderness ratio of the ECS and velocity of the moving nanoparticle on the time history of deflection as well as the dynamic amplitude factor of the nonlocal beams are scrutinized in some detail. The results show the importance of using nonlocal shear deformable beam theories, particularly for very stocky nanotube structures acted upon by a moving nanoparticle with low velocity.  相似文献

Based on the strain gradient and Eringen’s piezoelasticity theories, wave propagation of an embedded double-walled boron nitride nanotube (DWBNNT) conveying fluid is investigated using Euler–Bernoulli beam model. The elastic medium is simulated by the Pasternak foundation. The van der Waals (vdW) forces between the inner and outer nanotubes are taken into account. Since, considering electro-mechanical coupling made the nonlinear motion equations, a numerical procedure is proposed to evaluate the upstream and downstream phase velocities. The results indicate that the effect of nonlinear terms in motion equations on the phase velocity cannot be neglected at lower wave numbers. Furthermore, the effect of fluid-conveying on wave propagation of the DWBNNT is significant at lower wave numbers.  相似文献

Nonlocal continuum mechanics allows one to account for the small length scale effect that becomes significant when dealing with micro- or nano-structures. This paper investigates a model of wave propagation in single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) with small scale effects are studied. The equation of motion of the dilatation wave is obtained using the nonlocal elastic theory. We show that a dispersive wave equation is obtained from a nonlocal elastic constitutive law, based on a mixture of a local and a nonlocal strain. The SWCNTs structures are treated within the multilayer thin shell approximation with the elastic properties taken to be those of the graphene sheet. The SWCNT was the (40,0) zigzag tube with an effective diameter of 3.13 nm. Nonlinear frequency equations of wave propagation in SWCNTs are described through the effect of small scale. The phase velocity and the group velocity are derived, respectively. The nonlinear dispersion relation is analyzed with different wave numbers versus scale coefficient. It can be observed from the results that the dispersion properties of the dilatation wave are induced by the small scale effects, which will disappear in local continuous models. The dispersion degree can be strengthened by increasing the scale coefficient and the wave number. Furthermore, the characteristics for the group velocity of the dilatation wave in carbon nanotubes can also be tuned by these factors.  相似文献

In this paper, the viscoelastic wave propagation in an embedded viscoelastic single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) is studied based on the nonlocal strain gradient theory. The characteristic equation for the viscoelastic wave in SWCNTs is derived. The emphasis is placed on the influence of the tube diameter on the viscoelastic wave dispersion. A blocking diameter is observed, above which the wave could not propagate in SWCNTs. The results show that the blocking diameter is greatly dependent on the damping coefficient, the nonlocal and the strain gradient length scale parameters, as well as the Winkler modulus of the surrounding elastic medium. These findings may provide a prospective application of SWCNTs in nanodevices and nanocomposites.  相似文献

Based on the nonlocal strain gradient theory and Timoshenko beam model, the properties of wave propagation in a viscoelastic single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) are investigated. The characteristic equations for flexural and shear waves in visco-SWCNTs are established. The influence of the tube size on the wave dispersion is clarified. For a low damping coefficient, threshold diameter for shear wave (SW) is observed, below which the phase velocity of SW is equal to zero, whilst flexural wave (FW) always exists. For a high damping coefficient, SW is absolutely constrained, and blocking diameter for FW is observed, above which the wave propagation is blocked. The effects of the wave number, nonlocal and strain gradient length scale parameters on the threshold and blocking diameters are discussed in detail.  相似文献
