An advantage of closed groove guide over open groove guide is attended. In this paper, the several kinds of closed groove guides including the trapezoidal-, elliptic- and parabolic-groove guides as new types of millimeter wave transmission lines are presented. Their dispersion and cut-off characteristics of the dominant mode are analysed and compared with ones of the closed V-and circular- groove guides by using the equivalent network method. The obtained results have important meaning in theoretical studies and actual applications of groove waveguides.  相似文献

The dispersion characteristics of Insulated non-radiative dielectric guides are computed using mode matching technique. From the dispersion characteristics the dielectric loss conductor loss and wave impedances are derived. Effect of metallic walls on trapped insulated image guide are also discussed. The dimensions of Insulated non radiative dielectric guide are same as that of rectangular metallic wave guide at ka band.  相似文献

On the Main Mode of Trapezoidal-Groove Guide By Finite Element Method   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this paper, the propagation properties such as the dispersion characteristics, cut-off wavelength, guide wavelength and field distribution for the main mode of trapezoidal-groove guide are analysed by using the finite element method. The dispersion is very low, and the field distribution in a trapezoidal-groove guide is similar to that of rectangular one. The results have important values in design, manufacture, and application of groove guides.  相似文献

The dispersion and loss characteristics of groove guide with arbitrary shapes are analyzed with high-order finite element method. The effectiveness and the reliablity of the method are verified by the experiments and the results obtained by other methods. Groove guides with various groove shapes, such as rectangular, triangular, parabolic, elliptic and cosine functions, are investigated systematically. The calculating results show that the dispersion of groove guide with different groove shape is almost the same, however, the loss characteristics is rather different; among them, V-shape groove guide has the lowest loss which is about half of the rectangular one. All the curves and the data given in this paper can be used in designing elements and circuits of the groove guide.  相似文献

Loss and dispersion characteristics of groove guide are two practically important factors in the design for millimeter wave system consisting of groove guide. In this paper, a new method is presented for analyzing loss and dispersion characteristics of the groove guides with arbitrary groove cross-sections. The method is based on the combination of an equivalent active transmission line equation and the staircase approximation. Numerical results of dispersion and attenuation properties for some groove guides with different groove profiles are given. The effectiveness and practicality of the present analysis are confirmed by the data given in the literature.*Supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (No. 60171019) and (No. 60371010)  相似文献

Analysis for a Novel Cocoon-Shaped Groove Guide with Method of Lines   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
An arbitrarily cross-sectional groove guide is analyzed by using the method of lines and its characteristic equations are gives for TE and TM modes. Some numerical results show that correctness of the method of lines compared with the relevant results in the references is verified, and it is convenient to solve groove guide with arbitrary shape in practical application problems. A novel cocoon-shaped groove guide is firstly presented and its transmission characteristics are analyzed and discussed. The new type of cocoon-shaped groove guide has the good performances. The obtained results are of important application values in theoretical studies and practical applications of groove guides for millimeter waves.  相似文献

Dispersion characteristics and wave impedance of trapped coupled image guides are computed by using mode matching techniques. Dispersion curves for trapped coupled image guide are plotted for various dielectric materials and dimensional parameters. The hybrid directional couplers in the above configuration have been theoretically designed by computing the normalization propagation constant.  相似文献

Groove guide is widely recognized as one of the most promising millimeter wave transmission structures. In this paper, the mode-matching method is used to analyse the dispersion characteristics of single and asymmetrical double groove guides, and the unified formulae of Nth-order approximation dispersion equations are presented. Based on this analysis, a general program for calculating the dispersion characteristrics of single and asymmetrical double groove guides has been completed. Some comparisons between the results obtained by present method and published data show that very good agreement has been seen. The effectiveness and the reliability of the given formulae and program are thus verified.  相似文献

A characteristic equation of single V-groove guide has been derived using the transverse resonance technique. This equation is much less complex and tedious to solve when compared with that obtained by the conformal mapping technique. The computed results are within 1% of the published experimental values for the cut-off wavelengths at X-band and 100 GHz. The present analytical approach is to approximate the central groove region by a large number of rectangular steps and the previously derived analytical solution for the rectangular-groove guide are applied to predict the propagation characteristics of single V-groove guide. A number of components in V-groove guide which have very similar characteristics to those of the rectangular-groove counter-part have been reviewed. It is noted that both the E-plane and H-plane cylindrical bends in both rectangular-groove and V-groove guides had unacceptably high-loss and a satisfactory solution have yet to be reached.  相似文献

In this paper, the dispersion, cut-off and attenuation characteristics of trapezoidal-groove guide are analyzed by using the mode-matching method. The relationships between the guided parameters and variations of relative guide's sizes are discussed in detail. The calculated results are in good agreement with those in relevant reference. So, the obtained conclusions have important values in theoretical studies and actual applications of trapezoidal-groove guides for millimeter and submillimeter waves.  相似文献

In this paper, the transmission characteristics for the dominant mode H e 11 (1) in the vertical-flat elliptic-groove guide are analysed by using the mode-matching method and Mathieu function. The characteristic equations with the 1st and 2nd order approximations and their solutions for the dominant mode of the elliptic-groove guide are also obtained by a great quantity of theoretical analyses and numerical computations. The cut-off, dispersion and attenuation characteristics are in good agreement with those in the relevant references under limiting conditions and are discussed in detail. The obtained results are of important significance for theoretical researches and actual applications of elliptic-groove guides for millimeter and submillimeter waves.  相似文献

The dispersion and coupling characteristics of the coupled image guides are studied by using the odd-even mode principle and effective dielectric constant method. The practical design of the image guide directional couplers is presented. The experiments of 3-dB and 10-dB couplers in ka band show several good features which are very useful to millimeter wave integrated circuits with flat coupling, easy design and fabrication, mechanical stability and low losses.  相似文献

A new Fourier's expansion-differential method for analyzing groove guide with arbitrary shape is firstly presented in this paper. It is convenient to solve practical application problems of arbitrary groove guides. The calculated results of the guide wavelengths of typical groove guides are in good agreement with ones in references, and its computing precision is fairly high. Hence the computational correctness of the new method is verified. The new method has the advantages of clear conception, direct-viewing expression, simple and easily feasible computation, etc. So it is of important application values for enriching groove guide theory and is solving actual engineering application problems for millimeter waves.  相似文献

Dispersion characteristics and wave impedance for the even and odd modes of the broad side coupled dielectric image guides are computed by using mode matching techniques. Dispersion curves for broadside image guide are plotted for various dielectric materials and dimensional parameters as a function of frequency. Normalized electric field for dominant electric field component E of TM even and odd modes for various half spacings between two dielectric slabs of broadside coupled image guide have been plotted. Polysterene ( r=2.56) and Stycast ( r=3.4) have been used as dielectric materials in fabricating broadside coupled image guide. This broadside coupled dielectric guide is very convenient as compared to the other dielectric guides. Since in case of broadside coupled image guide the dielectric slab can be bonded to the side metallic walls using some low loss adhesive material, while in other coupled dielectric guides the dielectric slab have to be supported by some low dielectric constant material (Eccofoam with r=1.02) to maintain the proper distance of side metallic walls from the dielectric slab. Since this structure is symmetrical, this configuration can be analysed in terms of even and odd mode phase velocities. The difference in these even and off mode phase velocities can be used to determine the coupling between coupled dielectric slab. Various couplers in this configuration can be realised.  相似文献

The modes TE and TM of arbitrarily trapezoidal-groove guide are analyzed by using the mode-matching method. The mode TE11 is the dominant mode of the trapezoidal-groove guide under different conditions. The bandwidth characteristic and the operation condition for the single dominant mode are discussed. The obtained conclusions are of very important significance in theoretical study and practical application of trapeziodal-groove guides for millimeter waves.  相似文献

The single-mode bandwidth in rectangular-groove guides with different dimensions has been studied by finite element method. The actual single-mode bandwidth in a rectangular-groove guide is the same with a rectangular guide with the similiar dimensions. The dominant single-mode transmission in a rectangular-groove guide at millimetric waveband by adjusting the guide dimensions can only be an approximate one.  相似文献

Conditions for modulation instability of a wave packet consisting of two codirected linearly coupled waves propagating in a light guide with Kerr-type nonlinearity are formulated. The development of the instability with regard to light guide parameters, linear and nonlinear mode coupling, and input power is analyzed for symmetric and antisymmetric light guide excitations. Unlike in single-mode light guides, here modulation instability may arise in the frequency ranges of normal material dispersion and at the zero perturbation frequency.  相似文献

A quantitative theory of light propagation in a dielectric slab guide with general cladding media is presented. It is based on a plane wave which bounces in a zigzag fashion along the guide as a result of total or partial reflections at the two surfaces of the film. Two mechanisms are considered which contribute to the attenuation of the guide: losses due to absorption in the slab and cladding materials, and radiation losses if the guide is a leaky one. We point out the significance of the Goos-H?nchen effect for all questions relating to the power flow in the slab guide. The theory is illustrated by discussing dispersion and attenuation of guides with various low-index and high-index claddings, operating above and below cutoff. The low-index leaky guide is considered particularly in detail. Its high attenuation by leakage can be reduced to practically acceptable values (<1d B/cm) by increasing the film thickness to ≳ 40λ. One application of this guide is in the leaky wave coupler. This coupler may be viewed as a prism-film coupler simplified by omission of the gap. It offers a new approach to the problem of broad-band coupling to thin-film light guides.  相似文献

Groove guide is one of the waveguides that have been used at millimeter and submillimeter waveband. This paper analyzes arbitrary groove guides by means of the eigen-weighted boundary integral equation method that uses the eigenfunctions of a fictitious regular boundary as weighting functions. In comparison with the theoretical and experimental results published, the numerical results for rectangular, circular and V-groove guides using this method are exact enough with fast convergence and less calculation. The Project Supported by National Natural Science Foundation of P.R.
