In this paper, a numerical approach for analyzing interacting multiple cracks in infinite linear elastic media is presented. By extending Bueckner’s principle suited for a crack to a general system containing multiple interacting cracks, the original problem is divided into a homogeneous problem (the one without cracks) subjected to remote loads and a multiple crack problem in an unloaded body with applied tractions on the crack surfaces. Thus, the results in terms of the stress intensity factors (SIFs) can be obtained by considering the latter problem, which is analyzed easily by means of the displacement discontinuity method with crack-tip elements proposed recently by the author. Test examples are given to illustrate that the numerical approach is very accurate for analyzing interacting multiple cracks in an infinite linear elastic media under remote uniform stresses. In addition, the displacement discontinuity method with crack-tip elements is used to analyze a multiple crack problem in a finite plate. It is found that the boundary element method is also very accurate for investigating interacting multiple cracks in a finite plate. Specially, a generalization of Bueckner’s principle and the displacement discontinuity method with crack-tip elements are used to analyze multiple circular arc crack problems in infinite plate in tension (including: Two Collinear Circular Arc Cracks, Three Collinear Circular Arc Cracks, Two Parallel Circular Arc Cracks, Three Parallel Circular Arc Cracks and Two Circular Arc Cracks) in a plane elasticity plate. 提出了一种简单而有效的平面弹性裂纹应力强度因子的边界元计算方法.该方法由Crouch与Starfield建立的常位移不连续单元和闫相桥最近提出的裂尖位移不连续单元构成A·D2在该边界元方法的实施过程中,左、右裂尖位移不连续单元分别置于裂纹的左、右裂尖处,而常位移不连续单元则分布于除了裂尖位移不连续单元占据的位置之外的整个裂纹面及其它边界.算例(如单向拉伸无限大板中心裂纹、单向拉伸无限大板中圆孔与裂纹的作用)说明平面弹性裂纹应力强度因子的边界元计算方法是非常有效的.此外,还对双轴载荷作用下有限大板中方孔分支裂纹进行了分析.这一数值结果说明平面弹性裂纹应力强度因子的边界元计算方法对有限体中复杂裂纹的有效性,可以揭示双轴载荷及裂纹体几何对应力强度因子的影响.  相似文献

This article will combine the finite element method, the interpolated coefftcient finite element method, the eigenfunction expansion method, and the search-extension method to obtain the multiple solutions for semilinear elliptic equations. This strategy not only grently reduces the expensive computation, but also is successfully implemented to obtain multiple solutions for a class of semilinear elliptic boundary value problems with non-odd nonlinearity on some convex or nonconvex domains. Numerical solutions illustrated by their graphics for visualization will show the efficiency of the approach.  相似文献

The coupling of the elastoplastic finite element and elastic boundary element methods for two-dimensional frictionless contact stress analysis is presented. Interface traction matching (boundary element approach), which involves the force terms in the finite element analysis being transformed to tractions, is chosen for the coupling method. The analysis at the contact region is performed by the finite element method, and the Lagrange multiplier approach is used to apply the contact constraints. Since the analyses of elastoplastic problems are non-linear and involve iterative solution, the reduced size of the final system of equations introduced by combining the two methods is very advantageous, especially for contact problems where the nature of the problem also involves an iterative scheme.  相似文献

In this paper, we combine a finite element approach with the natural boundary element method to stduy the weak solvability and Galerkin approximations of a class of semilinear exterior boundary value problems. Our analysis is mainly based on the variational formulation with constraints. This paper considers the weighted extended b-splines as basis function for finite element method in electromagnetics and compares with the standard finite element method applied to the two-point boundary value problems with different boundary conditions. This new approach, which provides more accurate results than standard finite element method, is presented to compare other numerical techniques and applied to one-dimensional electromagnetic problems. This paper is concerned with the analysis of a finite element method for nonhomogeneous second order elliptic interface problems on smooth domains. The method consists in approximating the domains by polygonal domains, transferring the boundary data in a natural way, and then applying a finite element method to the perturbed problem on the approximate polygonal domains. It is shown that the error in the finite element approximation is of optimal order for linear elements on a quasiuniform triangulation. As such the method is robust in the regularity of the data in the original problem.  相似文献

The scaled boundary finite element method (SBFEM) is extended to the static analysis of thin plates in the framework of Kirchhoff's plate theory. The governing equations are transformed into scaled boundary coordinates. Applying a discrete form of the Kantorovich reduction method results in a set of ordinary differential equations, which can be solved in a closed-form analytical manner. The element stiffness matrices for bounded and unbounded media can be computed, using appropriate subsets of the analytical solution. We propose three new finite element methods for solving boundary value problems of 4th order differential equations with discontinuous coefficients. Typical differential equations modeling the small transverse displacement of a beam and a thin plate formed by multiple uniform materials are considered. One important feature of these finite element methods is that their meshes can be independent of the interface between different materials. Finite element spaces based on both the conforming and mixed formulations are presented. Numerical examples are given to illustrate capabilities of these methods.  相似文献

This paper presents a numerical approach for modeling multiple crack fatigue growth in a plane elastic infinite plate. It involves a generation of Bueckner’s principle, a displacement discontinuity method with crack-tip elements (a boundary element method) proposed recently by the author and an extension of Paris’ law to a multiple crack problem under mixed-mode loading. Because of an intrinsic feature of the boundary element method, a general multiple crack growth problem can be solved in a single-region formulation. In the numerical simulation, for each increment of crack extension, remeshing of existing boundaries is not necessary. Crack extension is conveniently modeled by adding new boundary elements on the incremental crack extension to the previous crack boundaries. Fatigue growth modeling of an inclined crack in an infinite plate under biaxial cyclic loads is taken into account to illustrate the effectiveness of the present numerical approach. As an example, the present numerical approach is used to study the fatigue growth of three parallel cracks with same length under uniaxial cyclic load. Many numerical results are given.  相似文献

A second order isoparametric finite element method (IPFEM) is proposed for elliptic interface problems. It yields better accuracy than some existing second-order methods, when the coefficients or the flux across the immersed curved interface is discontinuous. Based on an initial Cartesian mesh, a mesh optimization strategy is presented by employing curved boundary elements at the interface, and an incomplete quadratic finite element space is constructed on the optimized mesh. It turns out that the number of curved boundary elements is far less than that of the straight one, and the total degree of freedom is almost the same as the uniform Cartesian mesh. Numerical examples with simple and complicated geometrical interfaces demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method.  相似文献

This paper introduces a kind of multigrid finite element method for the coupled semilinear elliptic equations. Instead of the common way of directly solving the coupled semilinear elliptic problems on some fine spaces, the presented method transforms the solution of the coupled semilinear elliptic problem into a series of solutions of the corresponding decoupled linear boundary value problems on the sequence of multilevel finite element spaces and some coupled semilinear elliptic problems on a very low dimensional space. The decoupled linearized boundary value problems can be solved by some multigrid iterations efficiently. The optimal error estimate and optimal computational work are proved theoretically and demonstrated numerically. Moreover, the requirement of bounded second‐order derivatives of the nonlinear term in the existing multigrid method is reduced to a Lipschitz continuous condition in the proposed method.  相似文献

The motive of the current study is to derive pointwise error estimates for the three-step Taylor Galerkin finite element method for singularly perturbed problems. Pointwise error estimates have not been derived so far for the said method in the finite element framework. Singularly perturbed problems represent a class of problems containing a very sharp boundary layer in their solution. A small parameter called singular perturbation parameter is multiplied with the highest order derivative terms. When this parameter becomes smaller and smaller, a boundary layer occurs and the solution changes very abruptly in a very small portion of the domain. Because of this sudden change in the nature of the solution, it becomes very difficult for the numerical methods to capture the solution accurately specially in the boundary layer region. In the present study finite element analysis has been carried out for such one-dimensional singularly perturbed time dependent convection-diffusion equations. Exponentially fitted splines have been used for the three-step Taylor Galerkin finite element method to converge. Pointwise error estimates have been derived for the method and it is shown that the method is conditionally convergent of first order accurate in space and third order accurate in time. Numerical results have been presented for both the linear and nonlinear problems.  相似文献

We consider numerical approximations of stationary incompressible Navier-Stokes flows in 3D exterior domains, with nonzero velocity at infinity. It is shown that a P1-P1 stabilized finite element method proposed by C. Rebollo: A term by term stabilization algorithm for finite element solution of incompressible flow problems, Numer. Math. 79 (1998), 283–319, is stable when applied to a Navier-Stokes flow in a truncated exterior domain with a pointwise boundary condition on the artificial boundary.  相似文献
