An accurate and efficient semi-analytic integration technique is developed for three-dimensional hypersingular boundary integral equations of potential theory. Investigated in the context of a Galerkin approach, surface integrals are defined as limits to the boundary and linear surface elements are employed to approximate the geometry and field variables on the boundary. In the inner integration procedure, all singular and non-singular integrals over a triangular boundary element are expressed exactly as analytic formulae over the edges of the integration triangle. In the outer integration scheme, closed-form expressions are obtained for the coincident case, wherein the divergent terms are identified explicitly and are shown to cancel with corresponding terms from the edge-adjacent case. The remaining surface integrals, containing only weak singularities, are carried out successfully by use of standard numerical cubatures. Sample problems are included to illustrate the performance and validity of the proposed algorithm.  相似文献

We consider a class of boundary value problems for linear multi-term fractional differential equations which involve Caputo-type fractional derivatives. Using an integral equation reformulation of the boundary value problem, some regularity properties of the exact solution are derived. Based on these properties, the numerical solution of boundary value problems by piecewise polynomial collocation methods is discussed. In particular, we study the attainable order of convergence of proposed algorithms and show how the convergence rate depends on the choice of the grid and collocation points. Theoretical results are verified by two numerical examples.  相似文献

In this paper we present a certain collocation method for the numerical solution of a class of boundary integral equations of the first kind with logarithmic kernel as principle part. The transformation of the boundary value problem into boundary singular integral equation of the first kind via single-layer potential is discussed. A discretization and error representation for the numerical solution of boundary integral equations has been given. Quadrature formulae have been proposed and the error arising due to the quadrature formulae used has been estimated. The convergence of the solution with respect to the proposed numerical algorithm is shown and finally some numerical results have been presented.  相似文献

A new approach for analyzing boundary value problems for linear and for integrable nonlinear PDEs was introduced in Fokas [A unified transform method for solving linear and certain nonlinear PDEs, Proc. Roy. Soc. London Ser. A 53 (1997) 1411–1443]. For linear elliptic PDEs, an important aspect of this approach is the characterization of a generalized Dirichlet to Neumann map: given the derivative of the solution along a direction of an arbitrary angle to the boundary, the derivative of the solution perpendicularly to this direction is computed without solving on the interior of the domain. This is based on the analysis of the so-called global relation, an equation which couples known and unknown components of the derivative on the boundary and which is valid for all values of a complex parameter k. A collocation-type numerical method for solving the global relation for the Laplace equation in an arbitrary bounded convex polygon was introduced in Fulton et al. [An analytical method for linear elliptic PDEs and its numerical implementation, J. Comput. Appl. Math. 167 (2004) 465–483]. Here, by choosing a different set of the “collocation points” (values for k), we present a significant improvement of the results in Fulton et al. [An analytical method for linear elliptic PDEs and its numerical implementation, J. Comput. Appl. Math. 167 (2004) 465–483]. The new collocation points lead to well-conditioned collocation methods. Their combination with sine basis functions leads to a collocation matrix whose diagonal blocks are point diagonal matrices yielding efficient implementation of iterative methods; numerical experimentation suggests quadratic convergence. The choice of Chebyshev basis functions leads to higher order convergence, which for regular polygons appear to be exponential.  相似文献

Summary In this paper the convergence analysis of a direct boundary elecment method for the mixed boundary value problem for Laplace equation in a smooth plane domain is given. The method under consideration is based on the collocation solution by constant elements of the corresponding system of boundary integral equations. We prove the convergence of this method, provide asymptotic error estimates for the BEM-solution and give some numerical examples.  相似文献

The composite midpoint rule is probably the simplest one among the Newton-Cotes rules for Riemann integral. However, this rule is divergent in general for Hadamard finite-part integral. In this paper, we turn this rule to a useful one and, apply it to evaluate Hadamard finite-part integral as well as to solve the relevant integral equation. The key point is based on the investigation of its pointwise superconvergence phenomenon, i.e., when the singular point coincides with some a priori known point, the convergence rate of the midpoint rule is higher than what is globally possible. We show that the superconvergence rate of the composite midpoint rule occurs at the midpoint of each subinterval and obtain the corresponding superconvergence error estimate. By applying the midpoint rule to approximate the finite-part integral and by choosing the superconvergence points as the collocation points, we obtain a collocation scheme for solving the finite-part integral equation. More interesting is that the inverse of the coefficient matrix of the resulting linear system has an explicit expression, by which an optimal error estimate is established. Some numerical examples are provided to validate the theoretical analysis.  相似文献

Midpoint collocation for Cauchy singular integral equations   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Summary A Cauchy singular integral equation on a smooth closed curve may be solved numerically using continuous piecewise linear functions and collocation at the midpoints of the underlying grid. Even if the grid is non-uniform, suboptimal rates of convergence are proved using a discrete maximum principle for a modified form of the collocation equations. The same techniques prove negative norm estimates when midpoint collocation is used to determine piecewise constant approximations to the solution of first kind equations with the logarithmic potential. This work was supported by the Australian Research Council through the program grant Numerical analysis for integrals, integral equations and boundary value problems  相似文献

The present study is devoted to application of boundary integral equations to the problem of a linear crack located on the bimaterial interface under time-harmonic loading. Using the Somigliana dynamic identity the system of boundary integral equations for displacements and tractions at the interface is derived. For the numerical solution the collocation method with piecewise constant approximation on each linear continuous boundary elements is used. The distributions of the displacements are computed for different values of the frequency of the incident tension-compression wave. Results are compared with static ones.  相似文献

Summary Most boundary element methods for two-dimensional boundary value problems are based on point collocation on the boundary and the use of splines as trial functions. Here we present a unified asymptotic error analysis for even as well as for odd degree splines subordinate to uniform or smoothly graded meshes and prove asymptotic convergence of optimal order. The equations are collocated at the breakpoints for odd degree and the internodal midpoints for even degree splines. The crucial assumption for the generalized boundary integral and integro-differential operators is strong ellipticity. Our analysis is based on simple Fourier expansions. In particular, we extend results by J. Saranen and W.L. Wendland from constant to variable coefficient equations. Our results include the first convergence proof of midpoint collocation with piecewise constant functions, i.e., the panel method for solving systems of Cauchy singular integral equations.Dedicated to Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Summary We prove convergence and error estimates in Sobolev spaces for the collocation method with tensor product splines for strongly elliptic pseudodifferential equations on the torus. Examples of applications include elliptic partial differential equations with periodic boundary conditions but also the classical boundary integral operators of potential theory on torus-shaped domains in three or more dimensions. For odd-degree splines, we prove convergence of nodal collocation for any strongly elliptic operator. For even-degree splines and midpoint collocation, we find an additional condition for the convergence which is satisfied for the classical boundary integral operators. Our analysis is a generalization to higher dimensions of the corresponding analysis of Arnold and Wendland [4].  相似文献

We discuss the application of spline collocation methods to a certain class of weakly singular Volterra integral equations. It will be shown that, by a special choice of the collocation parameters, superconvergence properties can be obtained if the exact solution satisfies certain conditions. This is in contrast with the theory of collocation methods for Abel type equations. Several numerical examples are given which illustrate the theoretical results.  相似文献

In this paper, a new collocation BEM for the Robin boundary value problem of the conductivity equation ▽(γ▽u) = 0 is discussed, where the 7 is a piecewise constant function. By the integral representation formula of the solution of the conductivity equation on the boundary and interface, the boundary integral equations are obtained. We discuss the properties of these integral equations and propose a collocation method for solving these boundary integral equations. Both the theoretical analysis and the error analysis are presented and a numerical example is given.  相似文献

Summary. We consider an indirect boundary integral equation formulation for the mixed Dirichlet-Neumann boundary value problem for the Laplace equation on a plane domain with a polygonal boundary. The resulting system of integral equations is solved by a collocation method which uses a mesh grading transformation and a cosine approximating space. The mesh grading transformation method yields fast convergence of the collocation solution by smoothing the singularities of the exact solution. A complete stability and solvability analysis of the transformed integral equations is given by use of a Mellin transform technique, in a setting in which each arc of the polygon has associated with it a periodic Sobolev space. In this paper we consider a polynomial collocation method for the numerical solution of Cauchy singular integral equations with fixed singularities over the interval, where the fixed singularities are supposed to be of Mellin convolution type. For the stability and convergence of this method in weightedL 2 spaces, we derive necessary and sufficient conditions.  相似文献

Summary We present a class of Runge-Kutta methods for the numerical solution of a class of delay integral equations (DIEs) described by two different kernels and with a fixed delay . The stability properties of these methods are investigated with respect to a test equation with linear kernels depending on complex parameters. The results are then applied to collocation methods. In particular we obtain that any collocation method for DIEs, resulting from anA-stable collocation method for ODEs, with a stepsize which is submultiple of the delay , preserves the asymptotic stability properties of the analytic solutions. This work was supported by CNR (Italian National Council of Research)  相似文献

In this paper we propose a fully discretized version of the collocation method applied to integral equations of the first kind with logarithmic kernel. After a stability and convergence analysis is given, we prove the existence of an asymptotic expansion of the error, which justifies the use of Richardson extrapolation. We further show how these expansions can be translated to a new expansion of potentials calculated with the numerical solution of a boundary integral equation such as those treated before. Some numerical experiments, confirming our theoretical results, are given. This revised version was published online in August 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Summary Integral operators are nonlocal operators. The operators defined in boundary integral equations to elliptic boundary value problems, however, are pseudo-differential operators on the boundary and, therefore, provide additional pseudolocal properties. These allow the successful application of adaptive procedures to some boundary element methods. In this paper we analyze these methods for general strongly elliptic integral equations and obtain a-posteriori error estimates for boundary element solutions. We also apply these methods to nodal collocation with odd degree splines. Some numerical examples show that these adaptive procedures are reliable and effective. This work was carried out while Dr. De-hao Yu was an Alexander-von-Humboldt-Stiftung research fellow at the University of Stuttgart in 1987, 1988  相似文献

Recently, Galerkin and collocation methods have been analysed for some nonlinear boundary integral equations. For the collocation method it has been assumed that the nonlinearity is asymptotically linear. In this paper we remove this restriction. We shall prove the convergence of the collocation method for nonlinear boundary integral equations, when the nonlinearity has a polynomial growth condition. In addition to this the optimal order error estimates follow in Lq(Γ)-norm.  相似文献

An analytical solution is presented for the 3D static response of variable stiffness non-uniform composite beams. Based on Euler-Bernoulli theory, a set of governing differential equations are obtained, in which four degrees of freedom are fully coupled. For the variable stiffness beam, the governing field equations have variable coefficients reflecting the stiffness variation along the beam. Using the direct integration technique, the general analytical solution is derived in the integral form and the closed-form expressions of the obtained solutions are presented employing a series expansion approximation. The series expansion representation enables the proposed approach to be applicable for variable stiffness composite beams with arbitrary span-wise variation of properties. As an alternative solution, the Chebyshev collocation method is applied to the proposed formulation to verify the results obtained from the analytical solution. A number of variable stiffness composite beams made by fibre steering with various boundary conditions and stacking sequences are considered as the test cases. The static response are presented based on the analytical solution and Chebyshev collocation method and excellent agreement is observed for all test cases. The proposed model presents a reliable and efficient approach for capturing the complicated behaviour of variable stiffness non-uniform composite beams.  相似文献
