In this study we find a global minimizer of a concave function over a sphere. By introducing a differential equation, we obtain the invariant characteristics for a given optimization problem by constructing a canonical dual function. We present two theorems concerning the global optimality of an extrema of the optimization problem.  相似文献

In this paper, a new global optimization method is proposed for an optimization problem with twice-differentiable objective and constraint functions of a single variable. The method employs a difference of convex underestimator and a convex cut function, where the former is a continuous piecewise concave quadratic function, and the latter is a convex quadratic function. The main objectives of this research are to determine a quadratic concave underestimator that does not need an iterative local optimizer to determine the lower bounding value of the objective function and to determine a convex cut function that effectively detects infeasible regions for nonconvex constraints. The proposed method is proven to have a finite ε-convergence to locate the global optimum point. The numerical experiments indicate that the proposed method competes with another covering method, the index branch-and-bound algorithm, which uses the Lipschitz constant.  相似文献

This paper presents a canonical dual approach for finding either an optimal or approximate solution to the maximum cut problem (MAX CUT). We show that, by introducing a linear perturbation term to the objective function, the maximum cut problem is perturbed to have a dual problem which is a concave maximization problem over a convex feasible domain under certain conditions. Consequently, some global optimality conditions are derived for finding an optimal or approximate solution. A gradient decent algorithm is proposed for this purpose and computational examples are provided to illustrate the proposed approach.  相似文献

The efficient set of a linear multicriteria programming problem can be represented by a reverse convex constraint of the form g(z)≤0, where g is a concave function. Consequently, the problem of optimizing some real function over the efficient set belongs to an important problem class of global optimization called reverse convex programming. Since the concave function used in the literature is only defined on some set containing the feasible set of the underlying multicriteria programming problem, most global optimization techniques for handling this kind of reverse convex constraint cannot be applied. The main purpose of our article is to present a method for overcoming this disadvantage. We construct a concave function which is finitely defined on the whole space and can be considered as an extension of the existing function. Different forms of the linear multicriteria programming problem are discussed, including the minimum maximal flow problem as an example. Traditionally, minimum cost transshipment problems have been simplified as linear cost problems, which are not practical in real applications. Some advanced local search algorithms have been developed to solve concave cost bipartite network problems. These have been found to be more effective than the traditional linear approximation methods and local search methods. Recently, a genetic algorithm and an ant colony system algorithm were employed to develop two global search algorithms for solving concave cost transshipment problems. These two global search algorithms were found to be more effective than the advanced local search algorithms for solving concave cost transshipment problems. Although the particle swarm optimization algorithm has been used to obtain good results in many applications, to the best of our knowledge, it has not yet been applied in minimum concave cost network flow problems. Thus, in this study, we employ an arc-based particle swarm optimization algorithm, coupled with some genetic algorithm and threshold accepting method techniques, as well as concave cost network heuristics, to develop a hybrid global search algorithm for efficiently solving minimum cost network flow problems with concave arc costs. The proposed algorithm is evaluated by solving several randomly generated network flow problems. The results indicate that the proposed algorithm is more effective than several other recently designed methods, such as local search algorithms, genetic algorithms and ant colony system algorithms, for solving minimum cost network flow problems with concave arc costs.  相似文献

In this article, we solve the problem of minimizing the difference of dual functions of two coradiant functions. We do this by applying a type of duality, that is used in microeconomic theory. Indeed, the dual function of a co-radiant function is decreasing and inverse coradiant. So, we first give various characterizations for the maximal elements of the support sets of this class of functions. Next, by using these results, we obtain the necessary and sufficient conditions for the global minimizers of the difference of two decreasing and inverse coradiant functions. Finally, as an application, we present the necessary and sufficient conditions for the global minimizers of the difference of dual functions of two co-radiant functions.  相似文献

The subject of this article is a class of global optimization problems, in which the variables can be divided into two groups such that, in each group, the functions involved have the same structure (e.g. linear, convex or concave, etc.). Based on the decomposition idea of Benders (Ref. 1), a corresponding master problem is defined on the space of one of the two groups of variables. The objective function of this master problem is in fact the optimal value function of a nonlinear parametric optimization problem. To solve the resulting master problem, a branch-and-bound scheme is proposed, in which the estimation of the lower bounds is performed by applying the well-known weak duality theorem in Lagrange duality. The results of this article concentrate on two subjects: investigating the convergence of the general algorithm and solving dual problems of some special classes of nonconvex optimization problems. Based on results in sensitivity and stability theory and in parametric optimization, conditions for the convergence are established by investigating the so-called dual properness property and the upper semicontinuity of the objective function of the master problem. The general algorithm is then discussed in detail for some nonconvex problems including concave minimization problems with a special structure, general quadratic problems, optimization problems on the efficient set, and linear multiplicative programming problems.  相似文献

An algorithm for solving posynomial geometric programs is presented. The algorithm uses a modification of the concave simplex method to solve the dual program which has a nondifferentiable objective function. The method permits simultaneous changes in certain blocks of dual variables. A convergence proof follows from the convergence proof of the concave simplex method. Some computational results on problems with up to forty degrees of difficulty are included.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the global optimization problem of minimizing a concave function subject to linear constraints and an additional facial reverse convex constraint. Here, the feasible set is the union of some faces of the polyhedron determined by the linear constraints. Several well-known mathematical problems can be written or transformed into the form considered. The paper addresses the Lagrangian duality of the problem. It is shown that, under slight assumptions, the duality gap can be closed with a finite dual multiplier. Finite methods based on solving concave minimization problems are also proposed. We deal with the advantages accrued when outer approximation, cutting plane, or branch-and-bound methods are used for solving these subproblems. This research was supported in part by the Hungarian National Research Foundation, Grant OTKA 2568. The idea of duality is now well established in the theory of concave programming. The basis of this duality is the concave conjugate transform. This has been exemplified in the development of generalised geometric programming. Much of the current research in duality theory is focused on relaxing the requirement of concavity. Here we develop a duality theory for mathematical programs with a quasi concave objective function and explicit quasi concave constraints. Generalisations of the concave conjugate transform are introduced which pair quasi concave functions as the concave conjugate transform does for concave functions. Optimality conditions are derived relating the primal quasi concave program to its dual. This duality theory was motivated by and has implications in certain problems of mathematical economics. An application to economics is given.  相似文献

This paper presents a class of differential flows to solve concave quadratic programming problems under box constraints. Some properties of the flow are given to reveal the significant relationship between the dynamic of the flow and the geometry of the feasible set. It is shown how the differential flow reaches a vertex point of the box, leading to a global minimizer of the concave quadratic programming. Some illustrative examples are also presented.  相似文献

This paper presents a canonical dual approach to minimizing the sum of a quadratic function and the ratio of two quadratic functions, which is a type of non-convex optimization problem subject to an elliptic constraint. We first relax the fractional structure by introducing a family of parametric subproblems. Under proper conditions on the “problem-defining” matrices associated with the three quadratic functions, we show that the canonical dual of each subproblem becomes a one-dimensional concave maximization problem that exhibits no duality gap. Since the infimum of the optima of the parameterized subproblems leads to a solution to the original problem, we then derive some optimality conditions and existence conditions for finding a global minimizer of the original problem. Some numerical results using the quasi-Newton and line search methods are presented to illustrate our approach.  相似文献

This paper derives two novel travel cost functions by formulating a morning commuting equilibrium model that incorporates traffic congestion based on fundamental traffic flow diagram. The travel cost functions have components to represent traversal cost, waiting queuing costs and early arrival penalty. It is found that the equilibrium travel cost is a concave function of the total demand in the uncongested regime but an increasing linear function of the total demand in the congested regime.  相似文献

Recently, Fang proposed approximating a linear program in the Karmarkar standard form by adding an entropic barrier function to the objective function and derived an unconstrained dual concave program. We present in this note a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a dual optimal solution to the perturbed problem. In addition, a sharp upper bound of error estimation in this approximation scheme is provided.  相似文献

In this paper we present a duality approach for a multiobjective fractional programming problem. The components of the vector objective function are particular ratios involving the square of a convex function and a positive concave function. Applying the Fenchel-Rockafellar duality theory for a scalar optimization problem associated to the multiobjective primal, a dual problem is derived. This scalar dual problem is formulated in terms of conjugate functions and its structure gives an idea about how to construct a multiobjective dual problem in a natural way. Weak and strong duality assertions are presented.  相似文献

We consider a problem of minimization of a concave function subject to affine constraints. By using sign reversion techniques we show that the initial problem can be transformed into a family of concave maximization problems. This property enables us to suggest certain algorithms based on the parametric dual optimization problem.  相似文献

In this paper, the canonical dual function (Gao, 2004 [4]) is used to solve a global optimization. We find global minimizers by backward differential flows. The backward flow is created by the local solution to the initial value problem of an ordinary differential equation. Some examples and applications are presented.  相似文献

Augmented Lagrangian function is one of the most important tools used in solving some constrained optimization problems. In this article, we study an augmented Lagrangian objective penalty function and a modified augmented Lagrangian objective penalty function for inequality constrained optimization problems. First, we prove the dual properties of the augmented Lagrangian objective penalty function, which are at least as good as the traditional Lagrangian function's. Under some conditions, the saddle point of the augmented Lagrangian objective penalty function satisfies the first-order Karush-Kuhn-Tucker condition. This is especially so when the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker condition holds for convex programming of its saddle point existence. Second, we prove the dual properties of the modified augmented Lagrangian objective penalty function. For a global optimal solution, when the exactness of the modified augmented Lagrangian objective penalty function holds, its saddle point exists. The sufficient and necessary stability conditions used to determine whether the modified augmented Lagrangian objective penalty function is exact for a global solution is proved. Based on the modified augmented Lagrangian objective penalty function, an algorithm is developed to find a global solution to an inequality constrained optimization problem, and its global convergence is also proved under some conditions. Furthermore, the sufficient and necessary calmness condition on the exactness of the modified augmented Lagrangian objective penalty function is proved for a local solution. An algorithm is presented in finding a local solution, with its convergence proved under some conditions.  相似文献

For a class of global optimization (maximization) problems, with a separable non-concave objective function and a linear constraint a computationally efficient heuristic has been developed. The concave relaxation of a global optimization problem is introduced. An algorithm for solving this problem to optimality is presented. The optimal solution of the relaxation problem is shown to provide an upper bound for the optimal value of the objective function of the original global optimization problem. An easily checked sufficient optimality condition is formulated under which the optimal solution of concave relaxation problem is optimal for the corresponding non-concave problem. An heuristic algorithm for solving the considered global optimization problem is developed. The considered global optimization problem models a wide class of optimal distribution of a unidimensional resource over subsystems to provide maximum total output in a multicomponent systems. In the presented computational experiments the developed heuristic algorithm generated solutions, which either met optimality conditions or had objective function values with a negligible deviation from optimality (less than 1/10 of a percent over entire range of problems tested).  相似文献

We give a definition of the class of functions with a concave minorant and compare these functions with other classes of functions often used in global optimization, e.g. weakly convex functions, d.c. functions, Lipschitzian functions, continuous and lower semicontinuous functions. It is shown that the class of functions with a concave minorant is closed under operations mainly used in optimization and how a concave minorant can be constructed for a given function.  相似文献
